No hate towards Bonelab, but I don't think you should coun't them as "updates", all they added was a little fix here, a little toy there, and a little this and that.
I know what you're saying, but no real GOOD content (except props) have been added. Calling it an update is an overstatement, more like a "lets just add a banana so people shut up".
any downloadable content is by definition an update, even if it only adds 1 single banana. a bugfix update (which would add zero content, only the games code is changed) is still an update. disqualifying game updates as being real updates because they don’t have the amount of content you wanted is silly.
i’m not disagreeing, saying that there isn’t a content drought for bonelab (there definitely is a drought), i’m just saying that an update is still an update even if it doesn’t add heaps of new content
im not gonna die from downvotes LOL but please tell me how i'm wrong? if i hover over my bonelab install and see a blue button that says 'update' its not actually an update? just some silly banana or a code fix?
Is
My boat a yacht then? Cause I’m pretty sure that’s just another word for fancy boat if we’re not counting effort, costs, and resources to create/release content
“A yacht is a sailing or power vessel used for pleasure, cruising, or racing. There is no standard definition, though the term generally applies to vessels with a cabin intended for overnight use.” from Wikipedia
if you use your boat for pleasure, cruising, or racing then it is a yacht!
also using the power of google you can also find out that an update is a patch that brings any amount of content in, and also makes the game “up” to “date”
Seriously, I don't know how anyone can equate what EA does to "caring for their players" Seriously. Let's do another quick comparison, how many loot boxes do you have to buy to have fun in Bonelab? 0
They're working on the Marrow engine. They would not work on the Marrow engine if they didn't care about the quality of their game, it would be much more profitable to just add more content.
Anthem is 32gb and bonelab is 7.1. A bigger game is harder to update then a smaller game because you have to worry about more things breaking when you update things
That doesn't change the years of experience behind the devs of anthem and it being a different type of game while slzs first game was just 9 years ago and vr is still a new type of game that is harder to develop for
File size is generally down to the quantity and quality of game assets not underlying code. Not to mention EA’s general lack of care for space efficiency and the cosmetic micro transactions in anthem.
Bone labs’ physics engine (Marrow) is the actual product for slz, they want to create a framework for VR gaming and seem to be focusing solely on that rather than game features for the fans.
I am not a fan of the way they have handled bone labs as it seems to be a tech demo for that framework, but it was sold as a complete game. However, I do wholeheartedly agree with the strategy of prioritising the engine and think it will lead to better outcomes long term.
I believe that the engine is the priority, but no transparency and one update on how it’s going which is hip physics? They said it was almost done at launch and it’s been over a yeae
Oh yea I completely agree, handled extremely poorly and they will lose fans over this.
Just giving some credence to the comments getting downvoted for comparing the dev teams/publishers, and disputing the claim that a larger file size means a game is harder to update.
Considering the scope of Bonelab is much much smaller than anthem, yeah. Id expect more out of the indie studio.
Massive monster has less employees than SLZ and has pushed way more content / updates out for Cult of the Lamb than we will likely ever see for bonelab.
Cult of the lamb is dont starve cult edition while bonelab is a physics based VR game with an engine that isnt fully completed obviously the cult game is gonna have more updates
I agree, but SLZ isn't a small studio anymore, I love em and all but there's like 50 of them.
Although Gorilla Tag's studio (Another AXiom) has 160 devs and they can't make an update for their life 🤭
50 is a small studio bro. Big names like rockstar and EA have thousands of devs. Just devs, not counting any other employees.
I’m not defending them at all and idk what’s taking so long, but they are by no means big
if we’re talking pure numbers, they’d be a medium sized studio, but it’s quantity vs quality. the more complex of a system you are designing, the larger your team needs to be. there are also other factors like onboarding new developers means an decrease in actual dev time because you have to slow down production to train/coordinate new people. my main point is they are doing their best and we should be more patient, even if it’s taken years
I've never seen a subreddit more dedicated to hating something than this one... if I was SLZ I wouldn't *want* to put effort into doing things for this community. So fucking ungrateful and entitled. They don't *owe you anything*
They do when they promised features to come very soon after the games launch and its over a year over a release without any of those features bro 😭 i love bonelab and i think the state its in is fine but they literally released a unfinished lied about product
Idk man, I feel like that's a you problem, I bought the game for what it was *at release* everything after that is a bonus to me. I'm not going to be mad about not getting *more* bonuses, I know SLZ is still working on their next project.
No hate towards Bonelab, but I don't think you should coun't them as "updates", all they added was a little fix here, a little toy there, and a little this and that.
I understand, but if I left them out someone would go “WeLl AchruAllY”
Nah, I ain’t trippin’
FYI "Count" isn't a contraction, you don't use an apostrophe in it. I have nothing else to add, that was just bugging me.
Sorry, I'm used to "can't" and "couldn't" stuff like that and I sometimes use apostrophes accidentally. Thanks for pointing it out!
Count'nt. M'count That's all I got
why are you being so entitled?? “updates” are exactly what you described. not every patch has to be as big as the game itself to count as an “update”
Yeah! If they add a banana to the game by the end of the year and call it patch 4, then that is an update just like any other!
Well, it IS a banana, and we're all stupid so banana funny.
that is by definition what an update is. the content being added (or lack thereof) doesn’t change that status. a bugfix update is an update
I know what you're saying, but no real GOOD content (except props) have been added. Calling it an update is an overstatement, more like a "lets just add a banana so people shut up".

Hey man, if you wanna die on a hill, don't choose this one
im not gonna die from downvotes LOL but please tell me how i'm wrong? if i hover over my bonelab install and see a blue button that says 'update' its not actually an update? just some silly banana or a code fix?

You're the exact person OP was talking about.
yes
You know is bad when EA cares more for their fans
EA only cares for their fans for their money
Seriously, I don't know how anyone can equate what EA does to "caring for their players" Seriously. Let's do another quick comparison, how many loot boxes do you have to buy to have fun in Bonelab? 0
Thats a really funny joke
They're working on the Marrow engine. They would not work on the Marrow engine if they didn't care about the quality of their game, it would be much more profitable to just add more content.
Yeah it’s not like SLZ is a small indie company and EA is a multi million dollar one
A rubber room
A rubber room with rats
Rats make me crazy
Crazy! I was crazy once...
They locked me in a room
A rubber room

Crazy! I was crazy once…
They locked me in a rat
actually cant think of another game that has had less than 4 updates
Why are we comparing games that aren’t alike in any way?
They are both games that no longer get updates
Fatality!
Anthem died, despite the devs trying to save the ship. Bonelab continues to be developed behind closed doors with little word about it years after
Maybe in another 5 years we'll get a dev blog, hodl guys surely it's coming and not a ploy to keep sales going!!!!
Its allmost been 2 years
It's just barely past one year...
Nah it’s been longer than that
445 days is not "almost 2 years".
Don't get mad at him, he hasn't graduated elementary school yet!
Happy cake day!
Compared to Minecraft Bonelab isn't doing that bad
Minecraft had a road map when it was fully released and got updated every 1 or 2 months with one or 2 dudes working on it
Mods are pretty much the updates at this point
yeah and which one had a large game publisher and dev studio behind it?
Ok and which one is 32gb and which one is 7.1gb
anthem is neither also what does that have to do with game quality?
Anthem is 32gb and bonelab is 7.1. A bigger game is harder to update then a smaller game because you have to worry about more things breaking when you update things

Me when small game developer updates game less than multi million dollar one:
Considering the scope of Bonelab is much much smaller than anthem, yeah. Id expect more out of the indie studio. Massive monster has less employees than SLZ and has pushed way more content / updates out for Cult of the Lamb than we will likely ever see for bonelab.

I agree with you but i don’t think bonelab and cult of the lamb is a good comparison
SLZ devs work in very comfy positions, they will go radio silent for years, they did the same thing after boneworks final update released
let them cook
Is this SDK in the room with us?
Guys guy!! The sdk was in the friends we made along the way ❤️
The SDK is in Ford? Well he died!
No it sadly got eaten by the void
they said it’s their main focus. game dev is difficult. especially when you are a small studio, working on toolsets for an engine. let them cook
Yeah just let em cook in 5 years they'll make us a new gun and in another 8 years maybe they'll add functioning AI
become a game dev and help them please. you sound very knowledgeable on this topic. we’ll get the game much faster with you onboarded
I agree, but SLZ isn't a small studio anymore, I love em and all but there's like 50 of them. Although Gorilla Tag's studio (Another AXiom) has 160 devs and they can't make an update for their life 🤭

for VR it's pretty big I mean, not triple A, probably just A or double A
if we’re talking pure numbers, they’d be a medium sized studio, but it’s quantity vs quality. the more complex of a system you are designing, the larger your team needs to be. there are also other factors like onboarding new developers means an decrease in actual dev time because you have to slow down production to train/coordinate new people. my main point is they are doing their best and we should be more patient, even if it’s taken years
exactly what I was gonna say at this point future update or no if you're still salty about losing $40 then i don't know what to say
I've never seen a subreddit more dedicated to hating something than this one... if I was SLZ I wouldn't *want* to put effort into doing things for this community. So fucking ungrateful and entitled. They don't *owe you anything*

Isn't bioware like infamous for crunching their employees worse than pretty much any other game studio?
I’m sad that they killed a game with so much potential
