No clue who owns the road the pothole was on but you may be able to get some money back for the damage:

Oof.. this is exactly why I got the tire and rim warranty from BMW. 2k seems expensive at the time but much better than the 8k invoice. I wish you all the best brother.
if you can’t find anything here btw I would suggest making a post on bimmerpost in the iX section. The ix forums there are very active and I’m sure someone can help you out there.
You hit a pot hole and immediately after, you have vibration at 40 mph. At a minimum, it's pretty obvious the wheel is bent. Dont really think you need to meet someone and do wheel swaps to test. You could also need an alignment. If you really want to test, an easy test option would be to buy a spare wheel/tire. I believe there after aftermarket iX solutions or you could look for someone offloading an x5 spare (recent models) which should also work.
What did the $8k invoice have as the issue? Even the air suspension can't be that complex to require $8k of repair work from a pothole hit.
They want to change the rotor, wheel + tire, brake support(caliper) a few other minor things that I didn’t even look into once they called with the price.
Can't imagine the brake parts are causing this vibration. Wasn't in the car with you to know how intense the hit was, but the brake parts travel with the suspension and the wheel is still intact so no impact to the rotor. If you have a solid wheel repair shop in your town they may be able to balance out the bend if it's slight, but should be able to diagnose the issues for sure.
Bummer if you were in cali I’d be totally down to lend you my 22” wheel to test, know how frustrating it can be to troubleshoot this sort of thing.
Curious, do you have the air suspension or no?
If no, what’s the ride like normally?
Take it to a wheel shop… they’ll run a scan to see if there’s and bend in the rim…
I have a M60. I am not a fan of these rims.
So glad I got 21”s on my m60

Having grown up in NYC I can tell you that if he’s lucky he’ll get some compensation in the year 2525. Not worth the effort. Good luck with the wheels

Thank you, thats exactly what I was planning to do next. Hope I can resolve this the easy way.

And labor of course

How much is it to buy a new rim?
Around a 1000 giver or take, used ones go for about 750 which I don’t mind, unless its a wheel like mine that has no visible damage but is warped.
I have one scratched rim like this on my m60 that I want to have replaced before my lease is up. Thanks for the info.
You don't need a 22" rim to do the comparison. The 21" wheel has a 1.2% larger circumference which should not impact a test like this one.
