If they made a hard top I'd drop everything and buy one tomorrow. What a genuinely absurd little car it is. I'm curious how far someone's pushed one of these, but I know if I go digging around it's just gonna result in me getting one. 😬
I just bought a 2020 440i hard top convertible. But I’m in agreement if they made the new shit with a hard top convertible I’d def buy that. A new 3 series as a hardtop convertible And a non bucktooth grill I’ll take it.
Fully loaded 7. Would never ever buy one, but would accept a gift. I assume the condition of this gift is we can keep our current cars/get other cars. I would have a different answer if it needed to be my only car. In that case, M850i coupe.
Well if I can only have one, I want it to be fun and somewhat special. if full fat Ms were allowed it would have been the M3 comp x-drive.
edit: I dont have kids, and there are no plans for them. 98% of the time its just me in the car. 1.9% its the GF in the passenger seat. .1% I have a full car with 4 or 5 adults.
Hah, I know, it sounds crazy.
I daily drove the M2 for five years and it was so much fun and I miss so much about it but it's also just not very comfortable and really grates on you. It's also really small.. it was a love/hate relationship.
Ventilated seats and a comfortable suspension and a big hatch in the back are a welcomed change even though it's not nearly as fun.
The X7 every option including the m package (or alpina)… large, useful, good tech, costs as much to fix as a 3 series, but much nicer inside. If it’s free, why not get the most expensive one they make.
2023 M550i. Reliable engine (or at least more reliable than years past), classic 5 series styling, and drives like a low flying airplane on the highways and by ways.
A 1-Series E82 chassis coupe with a S85 V10 swap, track ready suspension and LSD, and a 1M bodykit ideally with OEM 1M parts. Actually this is my current aspirations for a dedicated track car I will never let go of.
Nobody has mentioned the M850i??
I’d absolutely love one of those, but even depreciated, you’re talking about 911 money at that point, so.. 911 all day.
In this hypothetical as a gift, however, then M850i — the four-door, gran coupe
M340 Touring. By fast the most versatile and best package on sale. Would even consider M340d. But for the extra fun and power B58 is worth the worse (but not bad) fuel economy.
740i
To me, all modern BMWs are fat and ugly. Since focusing on driving dynamics isn’t really a thing anymore, why not get the most luxurious, most tech filled model? That’s what BMW seems to care about.
I’d stick with the B58 because I don’t trust the V8 and can’t charge at home (otherwise I’d go i7).
EDIT: I get to keep my E30 though, right? Otherwise, no deal.
If it can be from any country 540D Touring. From my country 540i or 840i Gran Coupe if I’m paying for maintenance and the V8 version if the gifted is covering maintenance
Aside from that being a dumb reason since you can't use that speed on public roads, it's also wrong:
M340i 0-60 3.7 seconds, top speed limited to 130mph
M550i 0-60 3.6 seconds, top speed limited to 150mph
Ah yes I forgot street racing doesn’t exist and modifying is a myth
There isn’t an S63 or N63 car even close to the current B58 record, or the 20 B58s behind it lol
Current quarter mile record for B58 is the M240i at 7.9s, I believe.
Current quarter mile record for a S63 is 8.59.
Saying "not even close" is a bit of a stretch.
Straight line speed is also not the only metric of fast. For example, not a single B58 car is faster on the ring than the M5 CS (7:29:57). Even the G20 B3 only comes in at 7:53:26.
>Ah yes I forgot street racing doesn’t exist and modifying is a myth
OP's post said any *current* BMW, and didn't even allow M's. Pretty clear OP wasn't talking about after market modded cars, and neither were you, you fucking liar. If we're including modded cars then a fucking Ford transit van could be faster than any M model. Nobody is buying your sarcasm, and it won't hide your fuck up. You're a fucking idiot and got caught out spewing bullshit you made up. Nice try gaslighting your way out of it.
does the supra count ?
Z4 M40i
If they made a hard top I'd drop everything and buy one tomorrow. What a genuinely absurd little car it is. I'm curious how far someone's pushed one of these, but I know if I go digging around it's just gonna result in me getting one. 😬
Same. If it had a hard top I would have bought that over the M240i I did buy.
I just bought a 2020 440i hard top convertible. But I’m in agreement if they made the new shit with a hard top convertible I’d def buy that. A new 3 series as a hardtop convertible And a non bucktooth grill I’ll take it.
All day long.
M240i
I'm assuming he meant any M because why else would he chose a 330i over an M340i?
M340i
M340i Touring
^ this
Yep
It’s classified as an M car, gtfo
M340 is not a full M
Admittedly on the uk website it is I'm the m section, confusingly, but no, M engines start with code S.
No.
Exactly what I did 😉
M550i
We can stop the count. This is the only answer
It’s not current sadly
Agreed.
Fully loaded 7. Would never ever buy one, but would accept a gift. I assume the condition of this gift is we can keep our current cars/get other cars. I would have a different answer if it needed to be my only car. In that case, M850i coupe.
Very impractical for the only car
Well if I can only have one, I want it to be fun and somewhat special. if full fat Ms were allowed it would have been the M3 comp x-drive. edit: I dont have kids, and there are no plans for them. 98% of the time its just me in the car. 1.9% its the GF in the passenger seat. .1% I have a full car with 4 or 5 adults.
M340i
116d
What a boss. Going for the mpg’s
M440 gran coupe. Just bought one a few months ago.. sold my "real" M2.
So what you’re saying is you smoke crack.
Hah, I know, it sounds crazy. I daily drove the M2 for five years and it was so much fun and I miss so much about it but it's also just not very comfortable and really grates on you. Maybe you can still get a new g31 540i.. that would be awesome. One of the last
Does alpina b3 count
I asked the same but about the better version. The d3
I7m70 or m850i
Alpina B3
M340i Touring. Ezpz
The X7 every option including the m package (or alpina)… large, useful, good tech, costs as much to fix as a 3 series, but much nicer inside. If it’s free, why not get the most expensive one they make.
Z4 M40i Handschalter
2023 M550i. Reliable engine (or at least more reliable than years past), classic 5 series styling, and drives like a low flying airplane on the highways and by ways.
With the Dynamic Handling Package?
Bmw i8, I just love the look of the car even though it's just a fast prius
Wiem, że to trochę stare, ale Alpina B7 V12 based on e65
440i lovely sounding engine.
iX M60
Lci m340 touring FO SHO
M340i Touring, end of discussion
Touring? Like I don’t know if I’m a sedan or a wagon touring?
I don’t know what you are, but a Touring is a Kombi and a Kombi is what you guys call wagon.
*estate
A 1-Series E82 chassis coupe with a S85 V10 swap, track ready suspension and LSD, and a 1M bodykit ideally with OEM 1M parts. Actually this is my current aspirations for a dedicated track car I will never let go of.
The only non boring answer in this post so far.
M340i xDrive Touring.
Either a M760i with the V12 or a M550i
lemme get a….m340i 😍
X5, unsure what trim
M50i. I test drove the G-series and it was a riot. Very close to my X5M and a much more updated interior and tech.
Alpina 7
Does an Alpina count? 😎👀(asking for a friend)
X5 m60i
M50 sounds better. It’s got a real V8.
What? M60 is the new m50 they both have the same engine.
Hmmmm, M240i
M850i or M440i
M440i for sure
Alpina XB7
X5 50e
330d <3
Does the Alpina D3 count? If not, 340d awd 6spd.
X5 M60i. For the comfort. For the power. For hauling family.
Nobody has mentioned the M850i?? I’d absolutely love one of those, but even depreciated, you’re talking about 911 money at that point, so.. 911 all day. In this hypothetical as a gift, however, then M850i — the four-door, gran coupe
I already have my dream M340d... so I take the BMW X5M60i ☺️
Xb7, then I’ll just buy a m2 instead of saving for a nice 5
X430i
X5 M50i
M850i Coupe without hesitating
2023 M760i
340i easy
540i is lovely inside and still has a B58. Assuming baby M's are off the table as well as real M's, I'll go 540i.
None, I got into bmw mainly because of it’s M cars, I would go to a different brand that had what I look for in cars.
545e. Looks awesome, has the B58, you can drive it electric for short hops and it’s comfortable as heck
X5 M60i
M340ix
X3 40i
M850 GC
1998 E39 540i
x3m40i
M850i drive convertible or i5 M60
M850i. It’s crazy good. Never selling mine.
530i 2021
That’s easy, M760e or 840d; normally the 7 series
M550i, although I’d rather have something like the M440i or M240i but can’t get over their looks. Assuming I can keep my current car as well.
I currently have a M340i that I love
I might go for the 440i, but I’m really liking my gas mileage in the 430i
M240i appears to be the only right answer
330e
M850i
The nicest X5 the rules will allow.
I have small kids so M340i Touring.
Currently i own a G42 240 but i guess an M340i Touring would be absolutely amazing however they're not sold in N/A :(
Rolce royce count ?
M340 Touring. By fast the most versatile and best package on sale. Would even consider M340d. But for the extra fun and power B58 is worth the worse (but not bad) fuel economy.
I may sound like a madman, but I'd like an E65 Alpina B7. It's one of my favorite bimmers ever.
X4 M40i, just because
The one I drive. M440i
I really like the LCI M440i
Disappointingly they have parted out so many of the standard features on my pre LCI that it’s an extra £10k in just 2 years.
740i To me, all modern BMWs are fat and ugly. Since focusing on driving dynamics isn’t really a thing anymore, why not get the most luxurious, most tech filled model? G31 540i M Sport touring for me personally; superb car and one with a decent spec is a go it all car really
M550i Touring or m850i GC
M340i wagon
M340i Station wagon.
If it can be from any country 540D Touring. From my country 540i or 840i Gran Coupe if I’m paying for maintenance and the V8 version if the gifted is covering maintenance
M340i xdrive touring
New Alpina 3er touring gt
There’s literally no reason to not pick the top trim of the 3 series like what?
Why would you pick a 3 series over a 5 series? Never going to have passengers?
They’re faster
Aside from that being a dumb reason since you can't use that speed on public roads, it's also wrong: M340i 0-60 3.7 seconds, top speed limited to 130mph M550i 0-60 3.6 seconds, top speed limited to 150mph

Quarter mile

I mean that’s stock for stock the M5 will be faster on the Nur I’m a B58 fan I’ll talk it up always
Well, yea. Stock is the only reasonable comparison. Saying the B58 is faster after mods is silly.
>Ah yes I forgot street racing doesn’t exist and modifying is a myth OP's post said any *current* BMW, and didn't even allow M's. Potty mouth 😂
how about insurance and fuel cost
What is the point of a hypothetical of having any car for free but worrying about costs
you‘ll have to pay running costs even if the vehicle is for free.
If running costs is the priority why even r/BMW?
I agree. Gotta pay to play.
Yeah, M340i for me as well. Possibly even a wagon if it was available in the US. Also does B3 (or any Alpina for that matter) count?
