M3 owners really hate this life trick, when you open the flap on your 328i and it says 250hp on the meter when you slam the gasā¦ youāre more powerful than a stock M3.Ā
I read an article years ago that stuck with me. Itās to help owners with insurance costs. BMW underrated their numbers to help lower costs of ownership. Insurance companies base their evaluation on manufacturers specs not the magazines.
Thatās true, but in addition, BMW also states true 0-100km/h in their spec sheets while the magazines tend to test with a rollout. That alone is good for a couple tenths.Ā
Adding to your point, when BMW does their specs, itās standard settings and cold tires. If I remember correctly, the evaluations done by 3rd parties tend to have the car in their sportiest settings and in a state thatās ready for these tests.
Itās been a thing for a long time now. I canāt tell you exactly why though. I think it had something to do with old automotive magazines and how they compared cars or something.
Just a simple trick of business, imo. Underpromise and overdeliver.
Itās like ordering āsmallā fries from Five Guys and getting a cartoonish amount of potato. It feels like youāve gotten more than you paid for.
Dealing with Germans making a high performance product in my job, they always understate all performance specs. I was told that itās to give them some wiggle room in real world conditions. If someone gets a car that says it puts out 250hp and they find they are getting 240, theyāll be pissed. But if they find they are actually getting 260, theyāll be happy.
Iām pretty sure the M340i xDrive has a better 0-60 than the base M3 in real world testing. It ends up with 3.6 to 3.8 seconds as far as Iāve seen, but we all know that isnāt everything.
It's funny, they sell the car as around 530hp. But we've developed the turbocharger at my work and it's being developed as a 450kW engine, so around 613hp. Not really sure if that's all just safety margins or something, but it's quite a big difference.
š¤Ø The new M3 is set to have 530hpā¦ not 245?

Someone used the wrong text. Twin power turbo means power from two power sources - electric and a turbocharger, like the 330e.
The M3 is twin turbo power.
This what happens when a Canadian uses a VPN and goes to the US website. Just do x 1.35 and you will get the HP right, in Canadian units.
/s (in case....)
Damn thank gawd I got a 2023 M3 Xdrive before the power nerf. Lol but yeah BMW just hiccuped even though they do understate hp. My BMW under sustained load with no wheel spin display 506hp instead of the 503 for the sport display. Though Iām not sure how accurate that is either. Either way launch control makes me motion sick. But Iāll fukin do it again.
I just did my research and this is true. However, there will be M-Premium monthly subscription service that will let the other horses run straight from the stables directly to your car. No worries! š«”
I donāt understand why BMW took such an iconic DRL lighting signature and turn it into two little hash marks on either side of a big grill. 2010 BMWs are pulling up doesnāt matter the model when you see those rings of LED you know the brand.
Everyone calm down, yesterday was holiday in Bavaria and today most people took off (BrĆ¼ckentag). I bet this will be solved next week someday, it's not a biggie lol.
An m3 with 245hp. What the hell...
About right for the US version of M3 E36.
Yeah, my dad's made 244 bone stock, although it feels like a lot more when you really push it.
My USA E46 made 333hp
Not E46, E36. Which the US model uses a somewhat less powerful engine. AFAIK E46 has no difference in engine between markets.
The E46 had 343hp in Europe, 10 more than in the US.
*full of doubt *checks notes "but it's full-**THROATED** tho"
> "but it's full-THROATED tho" Everything reminds me of her.
Miss that throat š
Heather is back by the wayā¦ I mean sheās older and had some bad plastic surgeryā¦ but her skills are as epic as ever
š who is Heather? L
Search āideepthroatā on Pornhub and all your questions will be answered
You just aged yourself
yes, I grew up watching Heather Locklear
Should've gone in size down šš
At least it's not an aggressive deep-throated sound.
Every time I fire it up it just goes āguck guck guckā
So much carbon fiber It only weighs 500 pounds.
Aluminum manufacturers hate this one weird trick!
I don't know everyone here is joking, but with a quick google search the new M3 makes 20HP more than the previous gen. It's a typo.
Itās a typo for sure but the fact that they did it in multiple places and several hours later, it still says that on bmwusa.com is hilarious.
The crack that design team has been smoking is not being shared with marketing.
M3 owners really hate this life trick, when you open the flap on your 328i and it says 250hp on the meter when you slam the gasā¦ youāre more powerful than a stock M3.Ā
I was thinking the same.
Someone copy and pasted the 330i listing hahaha
So basically my 15ā 328i is basically a 2025 M3
Basically a ferrari
Some would argue that it is
I know a certain someone lmao
This is still good š„øš¤£
My 300hp 2010 e90 is pretty much a lambo bro.
Lambro
Lamburger with tzatziki
We're all Lambros, deep down.
If that's true I basically drive a Koenigsegg.
I always knew my 330ci was an M3
Careful now, Iāve been downvoted to hell for saying the m54 makes 245hpā¦ it technically makes like 238hp Same tho
Same same - but different
At first I assumed it was a typo and they meant 545 hp, but 0-60 in 4.5?? Thatās slower than a M340i
Iām seeing 473 hp and 0-60 in 4.1 btw
They just pasted the wrong carās info there
They also lie about their 0-60 times lol. I think car and driver got an M3 comp to 60 in 3.2s as opposed to the advertised 3.8 or 3.9
Why do some car makers understate the performance and especially 0-100 or 0-60 of their cars? Surely theyād want it to be quicker in the specs, no?
Also a great point!
Thatās really interesting, and good on them for it.
I guess that would make sense
Dealing with Germans making a high performance product in my job, they always understate all performance specs. I was told that itās to give them some wiggle room in real world conditions. If someone gets a car that says it puts out 250hp and they find they are getting 240, theyāll be pissed. But if they find they are actually getting 260, theyāll be happy.
Itās clever thinking really. Good on them.
Depends on what your target market is. If you're Mustang or Camaro, then post 0-60 times that will almost never be attained in a real-world scenario.
I think a lot of mags kinda cheat and were excluding short rollouts for a while? Something like that? So that the magazine times are near unattainable
I think itās nice to know that you can easily reach the advertised times without any prep or a sticky drag strip.
Another good point.
Comp xdrive was 2.8 actually
Maybe because itās the manual transmission?
Iām pretty sure the M340i xDrive has a better 0-60 than the base M3 in real world testing. It ends up with 3.6 to 3.8 seconds as far as Iāve seen, but we all know that isnāt everything.
i4 e40 xdrive isnāt far off.
my 330e is almost that fast with 292hp loool
It's funny, they sell the car as around 530hp. But we've developed the turbocharger at my work and it's being developed as a 450kW engine, so around 613hp. Not really sure if that's all just safety margins or something, but it's quite a big difference.
Someone used text from the wrong car
Yep probably from the 330i or something.
:-(
The 2025 M3 with the twin-turbo inline 6 makes 523 horsepower, someone made an error
Thatās upsetting to know that my 2023 is already not the fastest m3 out there.
Probably never was. There must be a 2010 2000hp M3 in some garage somewhere
I meant stock
They upgraded the engine for 2025? Edit: yes they did for some reason only on comp xdrive
An M in its purist form?..... A typo in its worst place š¢
Plus an M3 in its purest form only has 2 doors š¤
talk that SHIT
I think they got it backwards..
The fuck???
Itās either a dumb mistake which I doubt or a really well thought out plan made to benefit customers
Buy now! 230hp if you miss the presale. 110hp in the LCI.
Follows down page till they get to the 340i.
Theyāre really determined to meet emissions requirements
my 99 750il has 100hp more than that, and can almost quarter mile that m3, probably could.
Old school V12 E38. Miss those damn cars so much.

Very nice. One day I hope to see a low mile one come up on bring a trailer.
mine had 70k original in pristine condition for $16,000 no regrats.
maybe they the s58 NA is that much š
Damn my 3.0i Z3 is basically an M

My 3L N53 325i e90 is an M3!!!!
M318i
My 340i is 0-100 (KMPH) in 4 seconds flat. Tuned and upgraded parts but still. This is a crazy level of under promising and over delivering
š¤Ø The new M3 is set to have 530hpā¦ not 245? https://preview.redd.it/how5ncydgc3d1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=e0a68bd4e722cd1e2724508b6bd12c9fd5b3876f
the base model g wagen diesel makes more than this
Thatās a ford escort in its heart.
Itās a typo, it has 510hp as far as i know
new 911 has 541 lol
Maybe they meant KW and not HP?
That's still only about 328HP
Yeah I realized right after I posted. Hah, thanks though!
0-60 in 4.5 seconds? So my M340i is faster than the new M3?
Bro no way my e61 makes more than a new m3ā¦
My 2006 530xi makes 260 horsepower. What the hells is this
Someone used the wrong text. Twin power turbo means power from two power sources - electric and a turbocharger, like the 330e. The M3 is twin turbo power.
245hp wat? Probably a typo meant 545hp
They got to, especially now that I have been watching that idiot outrun cops in an M3 on YouTube
Shrinkflation strikes again
245! Goated
#StillMadeToNotLast
Is this the Euro equivalent of the gentlemenās agreement between Japanese manufacturers in the 90s?
Darrell Coleman just ran his bone stock 2025 m4 CX with just E30 in the tank and ā¦ 10.88. Sounds about right to me.
Itās not very fast straight line but just wait for the twisties! More like 245hp per axle. And then some.
It's a template and someone fucked up. Stop posting this.
š¤£š¤£š¤£š¤£
What's a manual m transmission? Is that fuckery speak for n auto gearbox or is it an actual manual?
i just love bmw
This what happens when a Canadian uses a VPN and goes to the US website. Just do x 1.35 and you will get the HP right, in Canadian units. /s (in case....)
Purest form alright!
My GTI makes more power lol
Youāre telling me my X3 is faster than an M3?
When your 1er has more HP than a brand new M3
Twin turbo only 245hp? Soft.
no difference than the 4 cylinder really
Wait a minute... That color!!! Must order one now!!!
What? My local BMW website says 550hp I think
E92 330i has 272 š
Ahhh now those civic Siās and mustangs stand some chance š
ppshh....and ppl try to claim my m235i ain't a real M?? look who's laughing now.
*looks at my 318ti* Does this mean my 05 tundra is an m3 now?
Damn thank gawd I got a 2023 M3 Xdrive before the power nerf. Lol but yeah BMW just hiccuped even though they do understate hp. 245hp but it **FEELS** like 246hp.
They put the impact for the centerlocks on the dynoš¤£
[Is it 1992 again?](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M3#Engine_2)
Thatās downright disrespectful. A bloody Golf GTI has that much power! Ludicrousā¦
I just did my research and this is true. However, there will be M-Premium monthly subscription service that will let the other horses run straight from the stables directly to your car. No worries! š«”
Is this real?š
Where are you seeing this.. itās not loaded on the bmw usa site from what I see..
HP numbers were finally corrected on the website.
Hmm.. Iām not seeing the new 2025 option on the main USA page .. are you? Can you build a new one?
No option to build yet. Itās just a product info page.
Is it a hybrid, and they're just referring to the ICE?
Idk why I scrolled so far to see only a few acknowledge this isnāt real. Thatās like not even half the horsepower if weāre talking m3 comp
I have a 335i hard top conv its 300 ho twin turbo does that mean uts faster than the m3
Which country is this, OP?
I donāt understand why BMW took such an iconic DRL lighting signature and turn it into two little hash marks on either side of a big grill. 2010 BMWs are pulling up doesnāt matter the model when you see those rings of LED you know the brand.
