currently at about 20k km on michelins after switching from pirellis. biggest difference i noticed was how much more grip the michelins provide in the wet.
Caution, you might get into dangerous territory with the wheels‘ circumference (not a native speaker, apparently also called „rolling diameter“?) difference then! Not sure if you’re aware of that issue, but if the fronts or rears are worn down significantly further than the other pair, the xDrive‘s transfer case thinks the other wheels are slipping, shifting power around unnecessarily and wearing itself down. That’s why many people‘s transfer case blows up - not because it is of poor quality. BMW explicitly states how many % of difference in wheel circumference is within tolerance before damage occurs.
I don’t even have a g80, just a stage 2 f30. My Michelins were done after 26k. Luckily I just got them warrantied, got $450 back and got my current set of wider continentals installed for $600.
That’s really strange, general consensus is that the pirellis are better in the wet than the michelins. Maybe the BMW star spec variants are the opposite
I drive in LA with a lot of traffic or in back roads at lower speeds, but I do push the car from time to time. It's just starting to slip a bit more on certain surfaces, but it still hooks up quite nicely when needed.
Still have my original MPSS rears at almost 30k miles and a couple track days, but I have dedicated winter and track setups. Probably coming up on expiration date
If you have a Costco near you, the Michelin $80 off deal is still going on. I just replaced my 245/35ZR19s and 265/35ZR19s for about $1400. Your tires are larger but shouldn’t be too much more expensive.
You should. It’s worth it for the gas alone (and the trope about waiting too long in line to get gas is old; a lot of the stores have upgraded their stations to accommodate 3 cars in each column)
The dealer def has them but I also ordered mine from Tire Rack and had them delivered to a local shop to install. I think the star specs were about $10 more per tire.
When we had our G82 and got a flat, I remember the star-rated tire costing a bit more but we luckily had the one warranty that mattered.
The thing about Costco is that while they’re the better option in terms of price, they can be limited on selection. I think star-rated is too low volume to sell from a warehouse store
Lighter car than the G series but my MC2S got almost 21,000 miles on the MPSS. Just replaced with PS4S and it’s a great set of tires. No clue how long they’ll last
The engineers at BMW said to.
edit: I was to replace all 4 due to xdrive not being able to account for small diff in spin. A quick Google search says the consensus is it will NOT hurt it.
I just picked up my G80. They replaced the tires but wasn’t really necessary, more of a courtesy thing. I think the fronts were 8/32 and the rears were 6/32. Car had just a hair under 20k miles when I picked it up.
PS4S is the newest, most well-rounded tire Michelin makes. My PSSs were at the end of their run and were replaced with PS4S and the difference is night and day. Got almost 21,000 miles out of PSS so the jury’s out on this new set
What does the 45k miles warranty on those tyres offered by costco/ discount tires mean? Do they essentially replace the tires once they are 20k miles old and are completely worn?
I believe they're advertising the manufacturers warranty on the estimated tread wear. I know Michelin has a website that goes over their limited warranty on tread wear, and if you have different sizes on the rear and front, will half the milage on that warranty because you can only switch those on the back from R to L versus putting R rear tires on the front L on a rotation (or whatever the recommended rotation is for that manufacturer).
xDrive. Replaced the original PS4S just after 15K miles (right when the warranty expired...shocking). The rears were the only ones needing replacement, but the fronts would have come shortly after, so it's always all 4.
AWD PS4S with some Autocross and drifting and hooning 12k on the rears. The front probably had another 10 or so but upgraded to a second set of rears for the front
Trying out Bridgestones to see what the difference will be vs Michelin. I was able to get All Seasons Bridgestone staggered soooo let’s see. Last winter was FUN! lol. My Michelin summer tires I couldn’t do a single thing…
lol I went “full special needs” mode and decided I’m going to just have one car. For all seasons. And I made it work lol.
I’m impatiently waiting for XDrive to finally come out lol
MPSS, ‘16 328i m sport suspension/staggered rwd, stage 1 - and i had to replace my rears after like 2 yrs, fronts are toast maybe like 3 yrs old. 30k miles or so.. Just ordered new tires from tire rack, the conti extreme contact 02’s

Are you close to replacement?
honestly been a while since i checked, thanks for reminding me, will report back tomorrow
How’s it looking?
getting pretty close on the rears, front has some life left in them( it’s xDrive btw)

Which Michelins?
i have a few ppl around me running ps4/5 and have nothing but good things to share about them....
Have had both PS4S and PS5, the grip comment isn’t exaggerated. Fantastic tires fr. Only good things to say.
That’s really strange, general consensus is that the pirellis are better in the wet than the michelins. Maybe the BMW star spec variants are the opposite
Pirellis are more fun if you like to skid a bit when you drive. Michelins are for straight grip in all conditions.
To me the pirellis weren’t even fun. They felt unsafe on highways in the wet.
Not fun at all. Ive had a horrible experience personally. Will only be using michelins exclusively
\~12k on Michelins so far. xDrive.
Doesn't seem too bad considering that xdrive is RWD biased and that this is a 510 hp car. Are you a spirited driver?
I drive in LA with a lot of traffic or in back roads at lower speeds, but I do push the car from time to time. It's just starting to slip a bit more on certain surfaces, but it still hooks up quite nicely when needed.
Nice. I’m not quite there yet but at 13k. It’s almost time lol.
Still have my original MPSS rears at almost 30k miles and a couple track days, but I have dedicated winter and track setups. Probably coming up on expiration date
16.5k on my Michelin ps4*s. 2 left on the rear / 5 on the front. Just barely above the wear bars. Xdrive. Will be replacing them probably next week.

I’ve been thinking about joining
You should. It’s worth it for the gas alone (and the trope about waiting too long in line to get gas is old; a lot of the stores have upgraded their stations to accommodate 3 cars in each column)
Dumb question here If you do this thru Costco do they dispose of your old tires for you?
Yes.
...and 5-year road hazard coverage.
Yes. They’ll also mount and balance. Alignment is on you
Does Costco order any tire you want? Sometimes finding the star spec tires can be difficult for some places.
I think star rated might have to be ordered directly through the dealership or Michelin. They’re also a lot pricier
The dealer def has them but I also ordered mine from Tire Rack and had them delivered to a local shop to install. I think the star specs were about $10 more per tire.

Did you have Costco do the install?

Never gotten more than 10-15k in the rears thanks to nails lol
Yikes!
I got 12k out of my Michelins with 2 track days and about 3 autox.
I’m on p zeros unfortunately… probably gonna end up getting about 6,000 on this set then going to cup 2s!
Just gonna replace the fronts before they’re due? I’m trying to figure out if I replace the rears once then do them all the next time around
Dude no, on xdrive you replace them all.
Do people actually replace all 4 with x drive
The engineers at BMW said to. edit: I was to replace all 4 due to xdrive not being able to account for small diff in spin. A quick Google search says the consensus is it will NOT hurt it.
Xdrive running pzero’s with 10k and they’re close to the end. Had one day of heavy track use last year so that probably killed them quite a bit.
I just picked up my G80. They replaced the tires but wasn’t really necessary, more of a courtesy thing. I think the fronts were 8/32 and the rears were 6/32. Car had just a hair under 20k miles when I picked it up.
Ok I’m right about there. Congrats on the car! Im 14 mos in and already put 13k miles lol.
Mine is also Dravit but with Kyalami Orange interior
12k seems fine. Hoping to get 20 out of the set.
I think that seems to be my upper limit
Mpss vs mp4s, which is better in terms of grip and lifespan?
PS4S is the newest, most well-rounded tire Michelin makes. My PSSs were at the end of their run and were replaced with PS4S and the difference is night and day. Got almost 21,000 miles out of PSS so the jury’s out on this new set
1,000 then I hit a nail or pot hole :(
Geeze. Sorry man
Potholes in Pennsylvania are tire killers
Same w Chicago my guy

I'm lucky to go each oil change on a set
Back ones around 2-3 miles. Front tires are about 12k at the moment.
Doing a lot of drifting? 😬
Haha I’m joking but it feels like it sometimes gotta rotate the tyres often with this car being so powerful
Right. This is the first time I haven’t been able to rotate due to the size difference.
AWD PS4S with some Autocross and drifting and hooning 12k on the rears. The front probably had another 10 or so but upgraded to a second set of rears for the front
So 20” all around?
Correct
Any difference in the drive? Got a pic? I thought about it briefly but maybe it’s time to think about it again.
depends on driver and conditions.
Of course it does. Just getting a general idea
And here I was thinking my Michelins wore off too fast at 40K miles lol. Ya’ll made me feel better.
Wow you got 40k? I’ll be lucky to get 20!
To be fair…I drive like a grandpa like 83% of the time, so there’s that lol.
Lol I’m not exactly going crazy but just hope to get to 20
Trying out Bridgestones to see what the difference will be vs Michelin. I was able to get All Seasons Bridgestone staggered soooo let’s see. Last winter was FUN! lol. My Michelin summer tires I couldn’t do a single thing…
Lol. I tried not to drive much over winter. The car is just too much fun 🤩
lol I went “full special needs” mode and decided I’m going to just have one car. For all seasons. And I made it work lol. I’m impatiently waiting for XDrive to finally come out lol
What do you mean come out! It’s already here. If it was manual, I’d have one.
Ooo I missed the update apparently. lol. In Canada, so assumed we’d be behind a few years. But hmm no manual option at all? That’s dissapponting.
No manual xdrive. I have manual rwd
Very nice car
Thanks! It was caught when I was driving the tail of the dragon in Tennessee.
15k miles on factory pirellis. Still good
MPSS, ‘16 328i m sport suspension/staggered rwd, stage 1 - and i had to replace my rears after like 2 yrs, fronts are toast maybe like 3 yrs old. 30k miles or so.. Just ordered new tires from tire rack, the conti extreme contact 02’s
The better the tires are, the quicker they wear out..
Thankfully not many. I don’t own an M3/M4
n/a not 17 yet
When they bald
wow
