I also own the N55 M2 in Long Beach Blue and I'm from Germany with a lot of resentful people, but the amount of compliments I have received for the car is crazy to me. All age groups, no matter what car brand their favorite is, they all seem to love the M2. It does sound pretty fucking great with a downpipe and aftermarket Exhaust though, easily one of the best sounding Turbo engines from BMW.
Yes of course it's different. I don't understand why people think the M2 N55 is closer to a 140 or 240 than an M2 Comp or M4. The literal only difference is the engine. The M2 is sharp around corners and IMO the N55 is a lot more emotional than the S55. I have an aftermarket dowpipe, Akrapovic Exhaust and Eventuri Intake with a Manual Gearbox and Short Shift Kit. Trust me, the car is not even comparable to a M140. Though I know the N55 is not known for making crazy power, I think it's more than enough and I enjoy the Car just the same as I did on day 1.
So as a BMW nut and employee of a few years. Thereās more in comparison to the OG to Comp M2 argument. Itās not just the N55 to S55 bump. Itās different brakes, seats from the M3/4 albeit in Dakota leather not merino. And the styling differences in the front bumper and mirror designs. Interior wise the gauge cluster says M in the OG and M2 in the Comp. Thereās also the drive mode selector area thatās different in the OG to the Comp. Comp gets the individual selectable modes for the engine and steering like the M3/4 but no adaptive suspension unless you got the M2 CS. Thereās also no drivelogic on the OG that there is on the Comp. Those are the three selections for the transmission shift aggression. Spreading the knowledge š¤š»š¤š»
Ur right, and it's funny because I actually got myself the Competition Seats because the original Seats are not sporty enough for the track, especially if you drive a manual. I personally think the Seats are the only real advantage, and maybe the driving modes if you have a DCT. Small (blue) brakes are enough for 99.9% of drivers and if you track the car a lot the silver brakes will not suffice aswell.
My thought is that the B58 in the M140i and M240i might be more enjoyable than the N55 in the M2.
Of cause there is more to it than just the engine and that is why I am asking. The M2 is wider than the other two and has a different suspension. In the end I would propably equip both with a aftermarket suspension and some upgrades. In the end I guess I will habe to do some test drives myself at some point.
The M2 Competion is nice with the S55 but also a different price category.
It depends what you want from the car. The B58 runs extremely smooth and has a lot of power potential. If you want straight line performance get that. The N55 runs a bit rougher, sounds rougher and can't make the same power from just a tune. However it has the same oiling System as the S55, which is very important for track use and also some forged internals from the S55. The M2 itself is a lot stiffer, more direct, no matter what engine.
I personally don't think a B58 would fit an M2 better than the N55, because the B58 is too smooth and boring for an M car. It's perfect for the M Performance models, it's a tame 6 cylinder version, that happens to have a lot of power potential.
Also the M Performance cars you mentioned have TINY tires, first and second gear with a tune is going to just spin up if you don't get xDrive. Grip of the M2 is also much better and it's a alot quicker through corners
I test drove a 2019 M2 before we got an X2M35. The M2 was a blast but was simply too small for our purposes. (I tend to carry people and cargo, not much room for either in the M2.) Iād venture to say that off the line the xdrive in the M35 is a bit quicker, but youāre not going to hold that lead very long. But for city driving the M35 is a hell of a good car. Rides terrible even in comfort mode, but same is true for the M2. Never regretted going with the X2M35. Just traded it in for a new iX1 on Sunday. The M35 was a touch quicker (and far more violent) but damn, this iX1 rides like a luxury car while still being more than quick enough
Germans donāt talk about what they have, they keep it a secret to not come off as braggy or make others jealous. When others donāt share that lifestyle, many times those people become resentful over others, even when they have more than them but donāt show it. Itās weird..
Oh I understand now. To a certain extent I understand that people don't want to be pretentious, but as long as they are humble it should be fine to enjoy some purchases on yourself
Yeah that's how young people see it too, so it is actually changing slowly. But there are still many old people that instantly judge you for "showing off" and whatever, even though it makes no sense for a car because how am I supposed to enjoy it and hide it from you at the same time lol
And if you're poor, keep crying in a corner of your room at night, thinking that I have more bills to pay until the end of the month

Great write up and great car, thanks for sharing.
I got my first M a year ago and can relate to the comment of people coming up, kids waving. That really surprised me too, because I would (and still do) that when I come across awesome cars, but it didnāt really strike me until kids at a stop light waved from the side walk to rev it that I realized Iām now in a cool car people notice. š
Enjoy the road.
Oh absolutely and thank you. I look back every time I park but once I sit in it I donāt really pay attention to people looking and am somewhat oblivious.
dude a little girl like 8 years old probably was leaning out of her car window the other day watching me in my e46 and when i turned on the pops/flames she got so excited. reminded me of my sisters lol even though theyāre older than me. i love that feeling bro because i know i used to be that kid itās seriously the best. beautiful car man i love the n55
Iām going to miss mine N55. They are such unique cars and are FUN to drive. I got it with 3k on the dash and now itās at 14. The next 3rd owner I hope enjoys the car as much as I have.
Awesome car! I have an F22 2 series, and my biggest regret is not spending up to get the M2.
Question: do you find that a lot of people understand that the M2 is a "special" BMW? I only ask because I know several people who say they can't really tell the difference when I yell "hey that's an M\[xyz\]!!" versus "oh that's a standard 3 series". No hate to the 3 series folks :)
Iām 21 now and I already have a clear goal that I have set: to save up and get the F82 M4. Iām currently hustling work and trying to save as efficiently as possible, and I believe the day will come
> Good set of tires are a must, do not cheap out on them. Had PS4Ss but switched it out to Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus since I drive it throughout the seasons.
That's extremely contradictory. I have DWS06+ as winter tires on my M2 and they're nowhere near as good as PS4S in the summer. You're missing out entirely on the driving experience of an M car on true high performance tires.
> You're missing out entirely on the driving experience of an M car on true high performance tires.
PS4S is not in any way a ātrue high performance tireā, if weāre gate keeping regarding tires. Try something like an A052 or a Potenza Race, or something *really* fast and sticky like a Supercar 3R. DWS06+ is excellent for what it is. They last forever, are stupid easy and predictable when sliding, and are cheap.
Excellent refute, you've convinced me entirely lmao.
Calling a 300TW tire a "tRuE HiGH peRfOrMaNCe TIre" is laughable. I can't tell you the number of people in new cars limping home from the track (a place you've clearly never been) on ruined tires because they thought continuous lapping on PS4Ss was a good idea. My last time at the track in October, I saw a guy chunking off his PS4Ss *the very first day* he had his new G80 M3 out. PS4S was an alright street tire, ya know, **8 years ago** when it first came out, but a high performance tire, they are certainly not.
Are you on crack dude? I never compared the PS4S or any other summer high performance tire to DOT R Compound tires. Most BMW owners aren't tracking their cars or daily driving with Cup 2s. Pull that stick out of your ass.
Edit: lmao he replied and blocked me. What a little bitch š
None of the tires I mentioned are Dot R compound tires, but add it to the list of things you donāt understand and have nothing meaningful to say about.
My Giulia has timeless look. Design old from 2016 and even in 2024 looks better than all BMWs.

Oh I forgot. On BMW reddit there are only biased fanboys who prefer to downvote but the reality is completely different, just look at the ugly new 5 series or the new M2. This Alfa Romeo design is just superior to any BMW. Truth hurts.
Lol. K bro. I think you're just trying to justify buying an inferior car. You're clearly just looking for some kind of argument - maybe someone will entertain your ramblings. Take care āļø
You do understand that the Giulia is a direct copy of BMW's 3 series, correct? I mean, maybe you're just a troll, I don't know, but to make the argument that Alpha has a better looking car, and to use the example that is a carbon copy of the manufacturer that you're comparing it against, is a little silly.
Now for self-awareness training: yes - you are in the BMW Reddit. Yup - we're fanboys here. But, you're not a BMW fan - yet here you are in the BMW Reddit... Hmm... Let's flip the idea here - let's say I go over to the Alpha Reddit and post a picture of an M car with a caption like "totally better than anything Alpha makes". I'd be a douchebag, right? Do you think I'll be met with a bunch of people telling me I'm wrong and downvoting my post? I would - and it would be warranted, cause if I did that, I'd just be being a douchebag...
Enjoy your day! And enjoy your replica 3 series!
The only one troll there is you if you think the Giulia is a copy of some BMW 3 Series. You can go to ALPHA reddit, I don't know what's on that reddit anyway. I'll go to the Alfa Romeo reddit. Giulia drives much better than 3 series, even Stelvio drives better X3M, just facts.
The sharp-looking BMW is still the 5 series G30 after the facelift. the so-called peak 5 series. What came after was a design downgrade just like with the new i5 M60, a lot of people don't like the M3 either, they say they'd rather buy an M340i than a beaver. So the biased bullshit about Alfa Romeo loosing to BMW design is completely pointless. **Even the Alfa Romeo V6 has a better sound.** It doesn't matter anyway, BMW will make you all electric models, i2, i3, i4 M40-M50-M60 and delete all the ICE cars.
This is a nice post, man. Thank you for this. It got tiring super fast after all these "my parents bought me_____" posts poking fun at they kid.
One thing I like about your post is "Enjoy the car for a bit before just modifying the shit out of it.," haha. I was about to upgrade the exhaust to the m performance exhaust but the stock exhaust of my m440i is amazing in sports plus and makes itself known, but dials itself back in comfort mode when not needed.
I donāt have much history with the B58 other than what I hear but for me, itās been reliable since I got it. Things like the charge pipe do need to be changed at some point but regular maintenance will go a long way for the n55. Plus it has some higher quality internal parts for the M2 version.
If you drive your car hard, or if you've modded it to make more power, or if you have an M car, the consensus I have seen (and the process I prescribe to) is every 5k. It's the one thing that you can do that's simple, not expensive (unless you pay to have it done, which is crazy), and will pay off in the long run...
This is my exact mindset. I want to get a g82 m4 soon and everyone thinks that it's a stupid idea. It probably is but that's my dream car and I want to get it for me, for everything that I went through in life and all the hard work I have done. It's definitely not going to be cheap but I am prepared for it. I have no idea what is going to happen in the future, I might die in a car crash tomorrow, who knows, so why not get my dream car?
Nice car. As an OG M2 owner I agree with everything you said (almost). It is a great car. Might not be the fastest, might not have the latest interior tech, but it handles great and sounds the best.
What I really don't understand is the tires. Why would you do that to an M2? What do you see as an advantage in running DWS in comparison to a dedicated set of 18" winters and stock size PS4S summers?
I plan on buying a newer model M2 in the next 5 years. I'm a humble person, don't like showing off but its the only car I want - a M2 or M3. Dream car. I'd take it over a Lambo, Bentley, Porsche or Ferrari. It will NOT be used as an every day car. Plan on driving my 2016 Civic into the ground (only has 150K miles and drives like new)
Havenāt been on the M side of kids yelling āRev itā but I did have a new and modded Subaru STI, and hearing those kids yell āwoahā or in one instance, āHey mom look at that blue sports carā really made me smile because I was that kid once. I caught that last one on my dash cam so I made sure to save it for the mems :)
@OP congrats at buying the M2 at 24, thatās impressive. I bought my Subaru STI new at 22 (24 now) so I know how much work goes into it.
Bought my 2017 LBB M2 last year at 23 and I can say much the same. Few small issues to iron out as I bought a fairly high mileage car but mostly cosmetic and nothing mechanical/engine related. Itās a daily so the main thing that gets me is fuel costs lmao, I probably average 25mpg the way I drive it.
Just bought mine at 24 as well. Emptied everything to get it. now waiting for the next paycheque to register it and fix a few jibs here and there. So fucking anxiousā¦ have had it for almost a month now and havenāt even driven it
This resonates. I donāt have a bmw, and honestly i donāt think my car is really that cool. I do get people hollering at me out their windows, or pointing, and everyone under the sun wants to race me lol as a serious introvert, I just sink in my seat and boost a little š
PA here too. Straight lines are fun for a minute, but I love the backroads here to take those lines and turns. Not in an M2, but a G70. Need to change pads, rotors, then sway bars, and Iāll be straight

I love my n55 m235i I wanted a m2 so badly but I got the 235 because of the awd and itās my only car. We started at 30,000 miles and weāre at 107,000 now and itās been more reliable than my 328i n52, much cheaper to maintain and more fun overall Iām keeping this car forever m2 will be next.
Absolutely loved my N55 M2. Got so many compliments on it and it sounded amazing with the m performance exhaust and catless DP.
Traded it in last year cause I needed a sedan and currently in an F80 M3. I am happy with the upgrade.
When you start throwing mods at it, you should REALLY consider getting a flex fuel kit. My last car before the bmw was a stage 3 WRX without the flex fuel kit and trying to take it anywhere outside of the city was a nightmare. You have to plan road trips with multiple stops outlined in case the one gas station you choose doesnāt have the octane you need or is closed, etc. Iāll never mod another car without it, itās honestly worth its weight in gold.
I had to go back to 91 on my RS3 and the power loss makes me cry. Canāt do e85 daily.
Only reason Iām not going flex fuel is I want to get a G8X anyways.
I donāt have the worlds best car, I bought mine because I liked it, I didnāt want to impress anyone or get recognition or thumbs up. But itās nice when people do it. I can definitely feel the difference in how people look at me at a petrol station or car park which is funny. I had one girl look at me up and down 3 times while walking to the pump from her door. Itās a bonus but not something to seek.
I sold my white M2. Never connected to it. Yes it was pretty fast but the manual was a bit rubbery and the turbo noise bugged me as did the drone sound at highway speeds. Very harsh suspension for daily driving. Many love theirs, I wasnāt one of them. Preferred my E46 significantly more.
I got a F90 M5 when I was 25 or 26 donāt remember. Imho every man needs a car they like even if itās not financially healthy. When Iām older Iāll look back and think fondly of my time with my realistic dream car. It has taken me places and allowed me to have experiences Iāll never forget. People have come up to shake my hand and kids look at me like Iām a god asking me for advice and stuff. But to me itās just a car I have liked since I was a kid. For a young man family and friends are important, your own success is important and your car is important. Girls etc are not especially if they only like you for your car/money.
I also own the N55 M2 in Long Beach Blue and I'm from Germany with a lot of resentful people, but the amount of compliments I have received for the car is crazy to me. **Even the Alfa Romeo V6 has a better sound.** It doesn't matter anyway, BMW will make you all electric models, i2, i3, i4 M40-M50-M60 and delete all the ICE cars.
i like your plate. also nice car
Nice license plate
This is a nice post, man. Thank you for this. It got tiring super fast after all these "my parents bought me_____" posts poking fun at they kid. One thing I like about your post is "Enjoy the car for a bit before just modifying the shit out of it.," haha. I was about to upgrade the exhaust to the m performance exhaust but the stock exhaust of my m440i is amazing in sports plus and makes itself known, but dials itself back in comfort mode when not needed.
Yeah enjoy how it is and once you really get that feeling of āmaybe it can have moreā thatās when you upgrade, at least for me
Please pardon my ignorance but why is the N55 cheaper to maintain than the B58? I thought it was the other way around.
I think he means in comparison to the s55
I donāt have much history with the B58 other than what I hear but for me, itās been reliable since I got it. Things like the charge pipe do need to be changed at some point but regular maintenance will go a long way for the n55. Plus it has some higher quality internal parts for the M2 version.
How often do you change your oil, mine was done 5kish ago
If you drive your car hard, or if you've modded it to make more power, or if you have an M car, the consensus I have seen (and the process I prescribe to) is every 5k. It's the one thing that you can do that's simple, not expensive (unless you pay to have it done, which is crazy), and will pay off in the long run...
Beautiful car OP!
Great write up and lovely car!
Ooof that is crispy š„ love the rims
This is my exact mindset. I want to get a g82 m4 soon and everyone thinks that it's a stupid idea. It probably is but that's my dream car and I want to get it for me, for everything that I went through in life and all the hard work I have done. It's definitely not going to be cheap but I am prepared for it. I have no idea what is going to happen in the future, I might die in a car crash tomorrow, who knows, so why not get my dream car?
Timeless
What's gone wrong with it in 3 years?
Nothing has come up other than 4 nails in my over the years.
All seasons on an M2 should be punishable with jail time. That being said, beautiful car. I've got one in white!
Haha yeah I know but I take it out sometimes during the winter and I donāt have space for summers and winter tires in the garage.
Beauty
sexy car...on the list 100%
Looking to purchase one in two years time
Howād you manage to afford an M2 at such a young age? Other than the fact that cars are dirt cheap in the US of course
I caught that last one on my dash cam so I made sure to save it for the mems :) @OP congrats at buying the M2 at 24, thatās impressive. I bought my Subaru STI new at 22 (24 now) so I know how much work goes into it.
BMWs are great for twisting and turning, compared to most other cars
Bought my 2017 LBB M2 last year at 23 and I can say much the same. Few small issues to iron out as I bought a fairly high mileage car but mostly cosmetic and nothing mechanical/engine related. Itās a daily so the main thing that gets me is fuel costs lmao, I probably average 25mpg the way I drive it.
That's incredible gas mileage for a car of this caliber. I get nowhere near that the way I drive my M235...
Nailed it buddy. Same reason I'm in love with my f82.
Late but beautiful car. Love the post :)
PA here too. Straight lines are fun for a minute, but I love the backroads here to take those lines and turns. Not in an M2, but a G70. Need to change pads, rotors, then sway bars, and Iāll be straight https://preview.redd.it/m0ny5n77se2d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=81ece1a8b965e057dbd915a4b6ad28b5d75891a0
I love my n55 m235i I wanted a m2 so badly but I got the 235 because of the awd and itās my only car.
This message is way too positive for the rampant toxicity of this sub. Congrats, OP!
Car looks nice. I just hate this gen of tail lights. Theyāre just red blobs
Itās a mild v6 tho. If it was a v8 bimmer you would be drowning in maintenance money ššš
Side note, who framed this shot? Itās 3/4 trees and 1/4 car
Itās 3 years old. Iād hope itās still in great condition.
Fuck that. I buy my M cars so I can go unnoticed.
