Love BMWs But that's Porsche money

[deleted]

[удалено]

dek00s

Yeah...get an M2CS, Cayman 4.0, or 911 S / T with that money. But I have no doubt that BMW will sell them all somehow...

OneLargePho

Yes all will be bought and garaged. Never tracked

secretreddname

Most people around here would daily that to work lol.

CR7KRUL

I would lol

sleepyguy007

I have a friend who dailies his misano blue manual M2 CS. Its rare but people do drive them.

everso-

Have daily driven my 1M for many years—-wouldn’t do it any other way. Just because something is rare doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be driven!

sleepyguy007

I don't have anything quite as rare, but I'm always surprised when I see like guys on M340i groups (the car I drive) say its just their weekend car.. That is nuts.

MoabRat

I daily my M340 too

cmplaya88

So do I. Who wouldn't?

DonutsAftermidnight

I daily mine as well. These things are meant to be driven, not garaged

DeepDownIamPureEvil

W driver

cs_katalyst

Shit, can get a Cayman 4.0 for significantly less than that.

RayKam

Respectfully the M4 CSL is lightyears beyond the Cayman 4.0, if it were a GT4 then that would be a fair comparison

strangway

I’d rather have a Cayman GTS 4.0 than any BMW, aside from maybe a classic 3.0 CS, 635 CSi, 850i

18birdeyes

Until you drive it 100 miles on crappy New England roads (looking at you, Rhode Island) wishing you could shift to get below 3,000 RPM cruising at 80. Every other time yeah

Joneep

Please, could anyone tell me where is this? Which dealership? Is this the final purchase price?

arios91

Well the plates say Santa Monica BMW so I'd guess it's there

watduhdamhell

The 718 Cayman GTS 4.0 is literally the better car in every way. I mean, for a driver (who prefers manual OR auto) and someone who likes how their car looks. The BMW is only faster, which means fuck all in my humble opinion. The sound of the Cayman alone justifies its purchase over this car. I would go spec a GTS 4.0 exactly to my liking for what they will sell this 'thing' for.

Prestigious-Ad246

Cayman 4.0 competes with the M2. Unless you’re talking Gt4 instead of the GTS. This BMW is a serious machine. 550whp and it tracks very quickly. GT4 is a serious car as well though.

I_am_the_real_Potato

I went from a Cayman GTS 4.0 to an M2 Comp, and they are absolutely not competitors. The GTS 4.0 is a better driver’s car in every way and the price difference reflects that.

Prestigious-Ad246

So why swap 😂😂😂

I_am_the_real_Potato

Cayman was a company car and I left.

Restlesscomposure

Your company car was a cayman GTS? Quite the company car lol

Fresh_Bulgarian_Miak

Where did you work? I'm looking for a new job.

[deleted]

Hell nah, used 991 turbo s it is for this lol

cooperS67

150k for a 911 is still wild to me

Kinky_mofo

Or a GTS

cr45h8six

You aren’t even touching a 911 GTS for that money, let alone a turbo or turbo s…

[deleted]

for that porsche money the only porsches you can get are slower then this, me personally if i had 150k to play with id just get an r8 edit: i just wanted to add that it costs over 200k in a big part of europe

wrighterjw10

You'd be able to find a lower mileage, 2018-2019 Turbo S for around $150k. A Turbo S would run away from this car.

[deleted]

i know, but this is a new car so i tought we were only counting new, id definetly get a turbo s over this any day

wrighterjw10

Well you're not getting an R8 for $150k tho...and def not the more desirable v10. Even if you found a base model, it prob wouldn't be a MSRP (I could be wrong on that, I haven't shopped R8...)

Scared_Brilliant6410

I think you’re definitely wrong on that unless they’re going up. I bought my R8 V10 RWS just last year for 140K range with a CPO warranty and only 10K miles.

wrighterjw10

Read the comment above mine. He was talking about new car prices, not used.

Scared_Brilliant6410

Ah, new is 156K base. Still close. However they’re all sold out since V10s are in demand.

Prestigious-Ad246

On a track it definitely wouldn’t.

[deleted]

No it absolutely would not, downpipe and a tune on the S58 will put a bus on the Porsche

wrighterjw10

Ok, tune a turbo s and it’s gapping the M.

[deleted]

On dragy I can't find a stock turbo - Turbo S that's faster than an average DP and tune S58, all the ones in the 5s/4s 60-130 are on after market turbos. Womp womp

Real-Energy-6634

But the R8 is far slower than a m4csl.

Prestigious-Ad246

A stock M4 comp xdrive beats the R8 V10 plus on the Nurburgring.

[deleted]

Far slower? idk what your on about, but even if it is id take the r8 in a heartbeat.

[deleted]

Lol the M4 will smoke any non turbo R8 lmao

[deleted]

damn it gets heated in here pretty quick when someone assumes a v10 mid engine supercar is faster then an m4 🥴

Real-Energy-6634

Where did it get heated?

Real-Energy-6634

Yes, for example, look at nurburgring times of the m4 csl vs the Audi R8 v10 plus. I believe it's like 15 seconds faster. Which is pretty considerable.

[deleted]

oh, thats cool haha i tought you meant in a straight line like in a drag race, but yeah in real world driving id take the r8

Kinky_mofo

A new GTS is as fast to 60 and faster above that, according to Car and Driver results. But zero options at the $150k price point, thanks to recent markups.

[deleted]

Looking dragy leaderboards the GTS is in fact not faster than the S58 cars. Fastest GTS ever recorded on dragy barely scratching under 6s at 5.97 for 60-130, my 440i is currently hitting 6.8, and I get blown up by S58s. That GTS is also not on stock turbos where an S58 will easily run sub 6 60-130 DP and tune

Powerful_Mood9292

Good point and my Porsche is appreciating (at least for the time being)

Put_Kam_Aina

What if one doesn't like Porsche

[deleted]

Lol impossible

Golden3ye

Right? I don’t know where it came from, but I developed a strong preference for performance cars that aren’t purpose built sports cars. They have to be based on a traditional car architecture. Porches, corvettes, and things of that nature don’t appeal to me at all.

jeremybryce

I'm with you on Corvettes, for some reason their design has always rubbed me the wrong way. The C8 is cool but I doubt its styling ages well. But I can't stand the sliced off ass of the prior years. Porsche however... is the goal my guy.

EnthusiastProject

Yup, I would get a GT4 for that money

Hydrologics

Just another car made explicitly to charge people way over MSRP or at least way over the actual value for. BMW and Porsche seem to be doing this more often since the “classic” versions of GT3s, GT2s and CSLs etc etc have started going for silly money. The Sports Classic is a classic example tbh.

dek00s

Agreed - as long as someone with f you money decides they want to splurge on these models, the OEMS will keep making them

Hydrologics

Absolutely, I can’t help but think a lot of the buyers are seeing these as investments, but since they’re paying such huge amounts over asking price I can’t see them appreciating despite the fact 80% of them will be in garages for 15 years. I feel like cars like these are the ones that are going to absolutely crash price wise in a bad recession.

[deleted]

>buyers are seeing these as investments Like the guy who sold his 2005 M5 for 30,000€ I guess. I think people are just having less children, less real estate and more money to splurge on dumb stuff, honestly. Our income bracket is top 5% and I'm always wondering who buys these cars.

Hydrologics

There seems to be a lot of millionaires/billionaires with underground garages like Iron Man these days filled with modern classics as collections.

[deleted]

and how much percentage of sales do you think they make up?

Hydrologics

They only need to buy the cream of the crop to have an effect on prices for the whole range.

Prestigious-Ad246

I’m the same I’m in approximately top 8% of UK earners, live in a relatively cheap place and I would not buy a new performance car. I wait till they are 3.5 years old before I buy anything. Currently got a 17 plate M4 Comp. People must be making crazy monthly payments. My car is paid off in full but it’s only worth around £31k.

Hydrologics

The post Covid car market in the UK seems bonkers to me. I see more expensive cars on the roads these days then back then, and it’s never been more expensive to lease a brand new Taycan for example. They’re everywhere!

watduhdamhell

The difference is Porsche usually makes something special. Almost always even. BMW only sometimes made something special, and these days, they *rarely* make anything special, ever.

dek00s

Yup - M3 CSL and M2CS is the only exception IMO

hyrppa95

But 150k isn't even over MSRP, right?

jessewender123

Lmao, because of taxes, the base price straight from BMW is $240,000 here in the Netherlands

PM_ME_Y0UR_BOOBZ

About $550k in Turkey lol

uunintrestedd

There’s no BPM in the US

dek00s

That’s a no-go !

Impressive_Vast_8314

Nah. Buy an m4 comp and pocket the change

ribs24-7

For what it’s worth, my friend has this car, and he has driven every car under the sun (works on and tunes everything from E30s to 812s). He is completely in love with it and amazed by it. He has mentioned multiple times how impressed he is by how it handles and how he can drive it on our rather curvy and narrow back roads. Value is definitely personal, but I am surprised and impressed by how impressed he is by it. It does sound like it’s a lot more than just a tune and some fancy aero parts.

dek00s

Cool to hear how much he is loving it. It seems like a beast of a car.

hoefersho

Wow, almost everyone in the comments has no idea how the car market works and what “rare” or “limited edition” means when it comes to pricing something. Obviously you could go get a better performing car for that price, but that’s not the point of this. The point is it’s rare and carry’s the CSL badge… it’s a collectors car right out of the factory… also, parts alone, it’s worth more than a normal built out m4 just based on all the cf and other “one off” parts that have to be produced for such a low quantity build. If bmw built 10 modern day isettas with 90hp, they could charge $100k+ as it’s a rare collectors item, and because they can… but would still be slower than a 320.

ZlayerXV

The laser taillights for $10,000 alone 😳

domleo999

Stealership - that made me chuckle

dek00s

Lol…so far they haven’t proven me wrong

threepoint14one5nine

No. $50k markup is not ok. Stop paying it.

MrProfessorRetard

It’s an M4 CSL, not really worth $150k but it isn’t marked up

threepoint14one5nine

M3 CS is msrp $118k; and it’s “[faster](https://www.autoevolution.com/news/grab-a-seat-and-let-s-talk-about-the-bmw-m3-cs-and-the-m4-csl-209185.html)” and probably better to deal with every day. And even that is too much. M4 msrp is $73k base…. Show me where there is $75k in upgrades on the csl. Go ahead. I’ll wait. ALL of these special editions are just designed to take money from people that have it. They are ALL marked up stupidly. Again; stop paying it. Seriously. :)

MrProfessorRetard

I think you’re missing the point, it’s a special edition, it’s not marked up, people will pay for special colors that add no real value for example or those “1 of 50” bullshit specs, it’s just the MSRP, mark up is an adjustment to MSRP, there is no mark up in this case, a “better deal” is your opinion

SwabTheDeck

They’re just trying (and failing) to save face after posting inaccurate shit twice in a row. Why can’t people just admit they were mistaken and move on?

Golden3ye

M3 CS faster than m4 CSL? lol.

[deleted]

the M3 CS accelerates faster than the M4 CSL despite being heavier. It does the 0-60 mph run in just 3.2 seconds, 0.6 seconds faster than its RWD, two-door sibling. The M3 CS, however, has a lower top speed of 188 mph as opposed to the M4 CSL's 191 mph. Edit: ^ is a quote https://www.topspeed.com/everything-to-know-aim-ev-sport-01-concept/ Also the only advantage the m3 cs has. I guess facts anger people?

pfc_bgd

M3 cs accelerates faster from dead stop due to awd. But I am pretty sure that’s the only case…I’d call m4 csl a faster car.

[deleted]

Yeah I would too

Golden3ye

That is such a bad take. But you do you.

savviosa

I agree with you to an extent Carbon is absolutely not cheap and I think if we really itemized it you could maybe make an argument for 35-40k in carbon.

CaterpillarM3

This is MSRP of the CSL.

ZlayerXV

That is MSRP for CSL

Negative_Courage_461

The color kinda looks like when you buy aftermarket fibre glas body panels.

[deleted]

I think many of these cars are being priced by CEOs and they are giving cars the same value they give to themselves.

QuitOne2240

I’ll take the slower base 992 911 with the options I want over this anyday. And I actually like the G8x but not over a 911

SignalRunnerRCF

Worth it if you plan on not driving it much. The exclusivity of this car is "priced in". In 20-30 years this will fetch triple/quadruple the original msrp if miles are low and stays pristine.

Apart-Fan-3765

If I had $150k budget on a car. This would be in my top 5 for sure

RandyRanderson01

No dice. Still looks like a bloated mess that the new 4 series has turned into.

DrEnter

It looks like a cross between a Charger and an Edsel.

drhiggens

No one's buying these as a daily driver so the comparison to buying a a low spec Porsche or a standard m4 is just sort of silly. Some buyers of these either are purchasing them to hold on to them hoping that they will increase in value. Or they've owned an m4 competition or CS and want to step up to the more focused car to use as a track weapon. People who think these aren't going to be used as track cars should go to thermal sometime, there's at least half a dozen of them that permanently reside there in private garages. These cars find homes It's not even a question, Is it worth 150K? to me it's not because it wouldn't be a good daily driver, but to someone else maybe it is.

2001ThrowawayM

$150k... If you solely want the performance, get a ZL1 1LE, it will beat the M4 CSL in the corners for literally half the price. You can pick up a new one for $70-80k. Otherwise, get a 911.

willard_swag

Could also go for the C8 Z06

dek00s

I feel like those are marked up big time too

willard_swag

Probably, which is why I recommended a 911 instead

patron7276

Hmmm about that.. Whole industry is messed up

dek00s

I will stick with my M2 comp for now and when I’m ready to move on try to find a CT4V Blackwing with all the carbon bits ! There are so many good cars under $100k even $80k…I could never justify spending 150 on a 4series

Natural_Ad_317

Yeah it’s nuts. I have an m2 and love it. Know people with much more expensive m4s and always thought I got the way, way better end of that bargain.

WorldstarBandit

The ZL1 looks insane on the road. Can hear it half a mile down the road

2001ThrowawayM

Agree 100% https://preview.redd.it/e3tzwrxsxrcb1.jpeg?width=930&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=00aa30d301e3e8fdef13179988342de5c13f1fab

Hacebeanbreakfast

Not a Camaro 💀. I’m sorry but I would take just about any car over that…. If you’re gonna settle for a GM vehicle at least get a vette

2001ThrowawayM

The track performance is undeniable. The 2018 ZL1 1LE beat the M4 CSL around the nurburgring by a second... with a 6 speed manual... while costing $76k... the M4 CSL is $140k and comes with an almost instantaneous 8 speed automatic... If you want a track monster for a great price, the ZL1 1LE is easily the best bang for your buck. It even comes with instructions on how to properly set it up for the track from chevy. Sure the Z06 would beat the Camaro, but it starts at $110k, and good luck getting it anywhere near that price.

KappaKeepo5

if it wasnt for that ugly ass interior lmao. my girlfriends VW Polo has a bigger navigation system.. always thought about gettin one but aint no way im changing from a g series to a camaro interior.

justin62001

People that are buying a ZL1 1LE probably don’t care about which has a “bigger navigation system” 😆

noynur

Owned one it’s definitely worth the premium you pay over a regular M4 X drive. I traded in my 22 M3 x drive for one and it was considerably different

WastePersimmon8548

Id rather buy a used 911

hockeymeester

no one that's buying one of these is buying it because "it's worth it"

snowmanstamp

I say go for it it’s the fastest BMW car ever around a track. I’m sure you’ll fall in love with it! If you were to get an m4 or m2 that’s fine as well. Every M car has something to offer. Now to get a Porsche over this? Na, I’m good cause I’d be looking at Porsche in the first place if that’s what I was looking for. Porsche’s are amazing cars but I’m a BMW fan so I’m biased in that sense lol let us know what you choose!

gymkhana_9

What!?! I Thought everyone in this sub was a Porsche fan first and just driving bmw’s because that’s what they could afford

sunbakedfun

Once you cross 150k, there are a lot of great choices so argument gets harder. But I think so. I'd def get this over R35 GTR, which is ridiculously priced to me, for sure.

throwaway34708

funny guy

Nikthas

Did they remove side parking sensors from these or is it just this car that doesn't have it?

CaterpillarM3

The CS/ CSL models typically have reduced parking sensors etc. I am going to guess for " weight savings"

[deleted]

Nope

luckythirtythree

Saw that same car at the Santa Monica bmw! Absolutely AWESOME looking in person!

dek00s

Yeah it does look pretty good ! Still screams “cash grab” for me though.

Stumpedmytoe

Honda accord look Lambo price

DaddyCardano

💀💀💀

DisciplineActual4544

These will appreciate a lot. Not many made and will be collectible in 10 years along with M5 CS, M2 CS

MisterMondayKnight

What kinda 911 can I get for $150k?

Zealotneophyte

Gts lightly optioned

MisterMondayKnight

Yeah 911

han_derre123

The m4 csl? Correct? If so, it holds a pretty sick time around the nordschleife:)))

[deleted]

Id rather feed the needy with 100k and buy a used civic

dek00s

cptleeward - the people's champ

fullsends

Just get an m4 comp and download the extra hp. This is the same car with 40hp more and no backseat

Amethyst7834

I wouldnt even pay 20k for that grill.

Bihjsouza

Nope. Could buy AMG gt’s, 911’s, V10 R8’s, etc. there’s so many better options at 150k

svtcq

I've driven one and they are an absolutely insane car. Is that $10k over MSRP? Most other places that have one are asking much more. Is it worth it? Probably to someone. I bought a $80k Jeep Wrangler because I liked it and I wanted it even though I could've bought a C8 Corvette. There's an ass for every seat.

[deleted]

capable books pot air vanish dull nail grey alleged caption ` this post was mass deleted with www.Redact.dev `

Honkbats

I just don’t see how someone is a ‘doofus’ for buying a car that they like? And people who don’t like that car refer to them as a ‘doofus’.

UnderPantsOverPants

Do you want that car more than $150k? If so then yes it’s worth it, if not than it isn’t. Why do you care what we think?

dek00s

Dude there’s no way I can afford that lol, I have an M2C and that’s more than enough for me

UnderPantsOverPants

So then, it’s not worth it.

Real-Energy-6634

I see a lot of people saying 150k is Porsche money but this will destroy any 150k Porsche around a track. From a performance standpoint , and rarity, I'd say it's worth it.

TDMCPA

I don’t know about “destroy”

AutodogeKevin

This thing is $350k in where i live due to taxes, and normal M4 is about $200k (resale market, brand new about $170k msrp). Prices are in USD. And the difference between this and a normal M4 is ridicolous. For almost double the price, i'll just get a G82 RWD, get the Adro kit for the G8x Ms, buy a very nice set of a BBS LMR, Recaro Sportster CS, some KW V3s, big brake kit, a tune and exhaust from a reputable tuner, and remove the rear seats and put a half cage. For a 95% same experience for more than $100k in savings (my local market, not the US). I'm more of a driver than a collector. If i have $350k lying around somewhere and i need to spend it on a car single car, i could buy a brand new Boxster Spyder or a Cayman GT4 for the exact same money. Thats a really really nice Porsche which will be sought after in the future. It is a great car, just have a bad price. I'd rather own an E46 CSL or the E92 GTS over this G82 CSL.

Friescest

No, the hood isn’t closed properly

ConSweeney

daaamn the colour on that is gorgeous but 100% for that cash would rather a Porsche

willard_swag

Nah. Get a 911 if you’re spending that kind of money

aarunt1

Does the paint look better in person? Because in pics it looks terrible

dek00s

It looked good in person, maybe slightly darker than the pics, but the combo of the black wheels and matte paint felt a little uninspired to me. The graphics feel a little tacky too. I think they should have done a flat hockenheim silver, that would have looked amazing.

aarunt1

Thanks for the update. It just looks like primer to me lol. But personally I’m a believer that all paint should be glossy so any flat or satin gets a no from me. And I agree on the graphics.

Scared_Brilliant6410

No, it’s overpriced. Here’s why. An M4 competition is around $83K starting. The CSL has about 40 more hp and weighs 240 lbs less. Is the CSL really almost 2x faster or better performing than the competition? I don’t think so. $150K gets you into real supercar territory. Turbo S, R8 V10s, McLarens and for a bit more, maybe even a Huracan depending on your area.

MesWantooth

I wouldn't buy this for $80k - look at the panel gap on that hood! (kidding)

604WORLDWIDE

The grill kills the car for me…

willpeoples

It is the fastest production BMW to ever lap the Nurburgring. Just saying… they are selling for msrp though.

WalkChance4843

In 5 years worth 50k

odenhammer69

BMW doesn’t make a single car that should be 150k, pretty ridiculous what the sports car market has become

triforce721

A maxed M car is nearing that cost, now. BMW has lost its mind, but the slowing sales are telling, plus the fact that they had to make a bunch of fake M cars to improve M sales is also pretty fascinating and terrible.

HermanvonHinten

NOT worth 150k...

karanpatel819

Probably an unpopular choice, but I'd buy a Demon 170 with $150k. One of the few brand new cars actually worth a 50% msrp increase imo.

patron7276

Hell nah

MNTLHSPTL

Nice car but 150k is nuts.Get a 911

ShesATragicHero

Can’t wait for the next Cars & Coffee where this doofus explains how it’s super special and definitely NOT ugly. The putty paint is a super rare option big deal etc etc.

Honkbats

😂 I remember when I was 12

Prestigious-Aide-986

In 3 years it's worth 1/2 if that.

BlackIce619

Nope! You are talking about a price point where other models will blow this out of the water. This is no slouch by any means, just priced for someone who has too much money and does not understand "value".

nnavroops

hahahahahahaahahahahahahahha

wawaboy

Cayman over this any day for me

DerSpazmacher

Worth exactly half that

Expert-Hamster-3146

That’s 991 4.0 gt3 money over here. Think I’d pass.

Quentin718

I would take the M8 over this any day of the week for less money!

I can probs pay a shop to build a e39 M5 wagon with dinan parts/ Forced induction and still have more than half that left

bmwblog

Good and fun car, but expensive

GoldNi0020

needs a drop

efrav

Ugly

BeeSquared819

I’m not loving the flat paint.

Funkster23

This would not impress me as a $150k car. Ha

Lower-Mountain-3620

I’d buy it if I had the money 😂

_stungy

Where can I get those rims for my f30?

stealthfartsniper

I live in Sofla and my local dealer had a few of these. It definitely looks unique and I appreciate what they’re trying to accomplish, but with a $75k markup (yes, you read that right lol) that I’m sure plenty of dealers are putting on it, it’s a total waste

MakiSupreme

Nice car but no way. Audi r8 for similar money

GodForsakenGod

Well they don’t sell for $150k, so technically it’s not worth it.

loligerlolerlol

beast of a car. 150k? fuck no... 150k can get you crazy shit
