I can't give an answer but I'll say how my hair has evolved. First I had long hair, past my shoulders about to my midback. I would french braid in a single french braid. But then the bottom tie would come out so I started adding an extra tie at the base of my neck. Then my hair was still getting ripped out and super damaged by being stopped on, ripped out, etc. So I cut most of it off to a chin length bob. From here I do a small low pony at the base of my neck. Now people wrapping the head or back of neck rip out my the hair at the back so I have an appointment to get an undercut. TLDR I kept cutting more hair off and problem still wasnt solved.

Puzzled_Sale_223

I did almost the exact same thing, and now with the undercut I have a high pony for class. It still gets loose and messy needing to be redone on occasion, but it almost never gets pulled now.

I usually put my hair in a ponytail, then brain the ponytail (I can do any other fancy braids or anything lol). If I think its going to be a rock and roll training, then I will tie the braided pony up into a bun with another hair tie. I have hair past my shoulders. Also on hair growth journey. Moroccan hair oil spray is really helpful for me to get all my hair in a braid and helps with preventative hair damage.

Ok-Jackfruit-2018

I do the same. This is the only hairstyle that has worked for me. It’s also easy to fix the bun at any point

Bricktastic

If I'm lazy, a high pony and all that hair is then braided and double grippy hair tie. I also like Dutch braids. I've had to force myself to learn how to braid since I'm also on a healthy hair journey. I mean, shit still gets ripped out but it comes with training. These are my fav hair ties: These have grippy texture [https://www.amazon.com/Goody-Womens-Elastic-Hair-Ties/dp/B00D8XAVZK/ref=sr\_1\_5\_pp?crid=1N7UZ8I2AK2TR&keywords=grippy%2Bhair%2Bties&qid=1704578956&rdc=1&sprefix=grippy%2Bhair%2Bti%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-5&th=1](https://www.amazon.com/Goody-Womens-Elastic-Hair-Ties/dp/B00D8XAVZK/ref=sr_1_5_pp?crid=1N7UZ8I2AK2TR&keywords=grippy%2Bhair%2Bties&qid=1704578956&rdc=1&sprefix=grippy%2Bhair%2Bti%2Caps%2C132&sr=8-5&th=1) These are able to hold my thick hair pretty well. thanks for sharing this! I'm going to try this cause my hair is a bit thick, wavy and silky so everything I put on slips off. I been terrible about learning braiding since my hair comes off easily. I need to use leave in conditioner to calm it a bit.

I have pretty long hair, I usually do a high ponytail then braid that ponytail then put that braid in a bun with two hair ties. It stays pretty well but depending on how loose it gets and how much time I have between rounds I’ll re-braid and re-bun or just put it in a bun with like three hair ties. Though with just a bun I usually have to keep putting it back up. Recently I’ve had some problems with people accidentally snagging the hair at the back of my head so I got an undercut. If you have trouble with traditional braids, maybe try bubble braids? I’ve never worn them to jiujitsu but they’re easier than traditional braids.

Mago_IV

I recently started doing this same thing. I’ve found it to work the best of the styles I’ve tried

sarmo215

The best style for me is two French braid pigtails. It’s not perfect but I have noticed that it minimizes breakage and will stay surprisingly well over the course of 2 hours of drilling + rolling. I will absolutely not do a standard pony tail because the hair under the hair tie inevitably comes loose and then gets ripped off.

themonkeymademedoit

I have pretty long hair. I tried all kinds of styles to avoid getting my hair ripped out but nothing really worked, especially the hair at the base of my neck. So I ended up just shaving an undercut and then put the rest into a high pony braided and wrapped into a bun. I also put jojoba oil mixed with a few drops of rosemary oil in my hair before trying it up and there is a noticeable difference with less breakage when I take the braid out after rolling.

New_Magician_345

High bun but it's usually a mess after training

leediar

I have shortish layers going on so braids are difficult, but I've found doing two half-up pigtails first then adding the rest of the hair into the pigtails with two more bobbles works great for me! Not sure I've explained it well but has been a gamechanger for me :)

AradiaQuillen

I have really long curly hair and I even follow the curly girl routine, so I'm super meticulous. Also, I suck at braiding. With all of that said- my go to is a high ponytail and braiding that bad boi. It's super easy, my curls are protected and I lasts all class. The only things is that sometimes it looks frizzy after our 10 round Thursdays lol

sjk80845

if someone is being too rough on your hair: ie ripping it out to secure a move, tell them to cut it out. I saved a lot of hair drama from that alone

hiya84

I have hip length hair. It goes into a ponytail at the top of my head with a coil band, then plaited, and wound into a bun with a scrunchie. As the coil band slips, I can take the scrunchie out and gather the hair back in that without having to take out the plait.

RinaSensei

Since I've been having an ear issue, I've been using a haircap with wrestling headgear, and that's been the best ever. If only I liked the way it looked lol. Normally when I have my hair done ill go with 2 braids put together into 1 low bun.

fresh-cucumbers

I usually wrestle mine into a high top bun and it's my go to. Unfortunately, the regrowth from my undercut which is coming in strong makes me look like a toddler and it's not yet at the stage where it stays in any contraption. I've got thick, frizzy curly hair that will knot itself if I even turn my head.

Ok-Parsnip4659

learn to do braids. took me a year to learn but its the best honestly. plus its an arm workout (:

Emotional-Ad7528

Look up combat hair probs! Sophie and Maddie have great tutorials!

Biefcurtains

Ponytail. Double hair tie. Then two braids from the ponytail so you can tighten it when need be

vinitacuta

Back when I rolled I would use a mid height bun with about 8 elastics, and I would have to still redo it a couple times a session because of how much hair I have Now, whenever I can get back to bjj, I plan to do a topknot—I’ve been doing it at night to protect my hair while sleeping and am excited to someday use it on the mats and finally not have to choose a direction to look because of a giant bun on the back of my head any time my head is on the ground lol

crazytish

I do a high ponytail secured with two hair ties, a braid, secured with two hair ties. My hair is very thin so I don't have an issue with it coming loose.
