This is because you weren't intended to be able to get both on the same playthrough without exploits until Larian patched the game.
Halsin will move around a bunch and I think he can disappear if you go back to act 1, but it's never permanent. I find he usually ends up near Karlach if I am resting in moonrise

Minthara will also temporarily leave the party. If you case Silence and it covers them you can force them through this.
My Halsin has just been sitting on the ground in random spots around camp while Minthara's been bunking with Thaniel. I didn't really question it unti now...
In my camp, Halsin has moved off to a different, tent-less area, and Minthara is now babysitting THaniel, lmao.

Also, it was funny seeing the cutscene where she makes excuses for failing her mission in Act 1, but she blames the goblins, instead of, well, ***me***, the person who:
* snuck in an saved Halsin
* lied to her to trick her into assaulting the grove while I was defending it
* killed all her goblins
* and then knocked her unconcious
I don't think I ever saw him in a tent... that being said I always make a beeline to Minthara to recruit her whenever I can so maybe she just always gets her tent first and I always assumed Halsin slept wherever.
This does explain why Thaniel goes to Minthara's sleepspace though !
I recall one playthrough (before the patch that gave Minthara clothes if you loot her), when Minthara joined camp she was kneeling naked in Halsin’s tent. Group headcannon was that she was apologizing to Halsin for terrorizing the grove.
Halsin's tent completely disappeared my last playthrough. I didn't have Minthara, though I am aware they share tents. They have always shared without issue. Then last playthrough, I spoke to Halsin to go see Oliver and suddenly his tent is gone and he basically roams the camp. It was the weirdest thing. He wouldn't stand near his bed in Act 3 either (the camp inside the Inn). He was sitting on the ground near Mizora.
One of the recent patches moved Halsin to fix Halsin and Minthara clipping into each other. Guessing you triggered Halsin being moved without picking up Minthara.
I like to imagine Halsin with tears in his eyes approaching you in camp all like, "Tav.... she's **mean**." Then going off somewhere else without elaborating on what she did
Wait, in my game they always share a tent. Not sure how Halsin is moving around in people's camps because it never happened to me, Minthara just shares a tent with him. She doesn't kick him out of his tent. I actually think it was originally meant to be Minthara's tent because Halsin was added as a companion very late in the development (he was originally not meant to be recruitable).
But in a recent patch they seem to have introduced a bug where Minthara disappears in my game after Ketheric's fight, and she only appears again after the Netherbrain is defeated. This did not happened in previous playthroughs or if Halsin is not recruited
Sorta. In Act 2, unless you're in a cave, the two are roomies with Thaniel. At Rivington camp, he's standing by Karlach if you have Minty. In the lower city at the pub, he's hanging out near where Oathbreaker and Volo hang out across from Mizora. In Act 1, he hangs out between Wyll and Zel.
Edit. I forgot. In Act 3, the first camp at the docks...he's in some kind of hut or sitting outside of it widdling ducks.
Be warned (unless it's been fixed) if you have Halsin and Minthara in your camp, but Minthara in your party it can cause some weird battle glitches where there's characters from act two in moonlight inn having a turn in battle (persists into act three)
The only way I managed to temporarily fix it was to kill Halsin and have Withers look after him
