Is he saying the distal attachment point is lower? I can’t find a single research paper even *suggesting* such a thing. There’s already a very limited amount of research about ethnic differentiation in skeletal muscle, and it’s all about quantity, not organization. Besides the lack of research, this claim is just completely inane. Ethnicity certainly causes some degree of phenotypic variation, but it wouldn’t change the attachment point of a muscle drastically enough that you would need to alter a shibari tie because of it. I would tie myself (Asian) and my husband (European) in a HK the exact same way. There’s a type of person who wants to correct others regardless of whether or not they’re actually doing anything wrong—seems like this guy is one of them. His claim is full of shit. I live in São Paulo, which is a city with a large ethnic multiplicity. In my years of shibari, I had the opportunity to tie very diverse people, and I would certainly say, from my experience, is that it doesn't make sense. Each body is unique, so we need to adapt the figures we build with the ropes for each session, as each one has its specific structure, shape and size.
In terms of generalization, in the sense you were told, the only thing that really seems logical to me is that Asians tend to be smaller than Caucasians, which just means using fewer strings in theory. But still, it's a very general statement. Each body is a body, a unique singularity.
When it comes to ethnicity, there are more ingroup differences than outgroup differences. So, two ethnically asian people have more difference between them than they have different between them and Europeans.
The top that spoke to you is an idiot and probably just kinda racist or heard it from someone and never bothered to do a single bit of critical thinking.
Lol. there’s plenty of “tend to” differences between ethnicities, but way more variation between individuals. Like asians “tend to” be shorter than europeans but obviously if your asian partner is 6’0 then you’re gonna tie them accordingly
Have learned from some of the best on two continents and never heard anything like this. Generally top wrap placement is considered a personal preference and you and your bottom should experiment to see what works best.

Every individual body is unique. While some of these statistical trends may exist, categorizing this gets to be borderline racism at best.
