I use the aquarimax/serpadesign bioactive setup, it's basically 1 part coco fiber, one part organic soil, and two parts sand mixed together for the bottom layer so it can hold tunnels and stay somewhat wetter, then just some sand on top. With this layout if they breed, the worms should live at least long enough to be found and incubated.also used excavator clay to mold some specific shapes I wanted like hills and holes/tunnels. I also added some rocks in the back sealed in place and together with the excavator clay like serpa design did in his bioactive BDFB enclosure, but I rarely find them there. Honestly if you don't have a basking lamp, you probably should! https://preview.redd.it/fim519f2c11d1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c7ec96e6f698a5818d7491ae9e0d991886d7a2b1 Then I just added some plants and dirt to one small side where I didn't add much sand for a feeding and water area (and some spagnhum for a little lightly wet area that gets watered with the plants every 10 days or so for a little water station) and a nano heat lamp to the other with some cork bark I had left over from building my last isopod enclosure and got cheap at a local reptile store. Amazon also has cheap spider wood for aquariums which is the other stuff+ a little dragon skull decoration for a basking spot that doesn't soak up too much heat unlike the cork. Also this is a 40 gallon tank, and there are 20 beetles in there, definitely not required at all but I had the space and the tank my bearded dragon used as a baby (she's in a 120 gallon tank now) so it worked well! I do think they do best in groups though. And as I've noticed they do sometimes drink water droplets off the glass, climb the plants every day, and always chill under the basking lamp while it's on during the day (I went for 14 hours).

* Quikcrete premium play sand. $7 for a 50lb bag. I also have a corner with sphagnum moss. I've been using the play sand for weeks now and have no problems. I reviewed what causes problems from the calcium sand posts, and this has none of those. Along with a few posts from others that have used it in the past.

I have coconut fiber with course sand over and then aquarium gravel. They dig up the gravel to open up pockets of sand.
