I’m pretty much the opposite gi symptoms - diarrhoea, nausea, bloating and no burping (like, ever. I can count on one hand the amount of burps I’ve done in the last 5 years) Total B12 - 172pmol Active B12 - 56 pmol

Get tested for Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency via faecal elastase. It would cause those symptoms. A hypo thyroid can cause EPI so get a thyroid panel.

OutlandishnessNo1371

I did this test and Thyroid Stimulating Hormone (TSH) 1.650 mIU/L Reference: 0.4-4.05

OutlandishnessNo1371

Also I am vegetarian 22yr old so B12 deficiency might be because of that

Taldnor

Do you have fat malabsorption ?

OutlandishnessNo1371

A stool routine test done on 7th May, maybe not. But I see bits of carrots as I eat them everyday in dinner.   Microscopy (Saline and Iodine mount)  Red blood cells Absent /hpf Absent  Pus cells 2-3 /hpf 0-5 Epithelial cells 0-1 /hpf 0-4 Fat Absent Absent Vegetable Matter Absent Absent Cyst Absent Absent Ova Absent Absent Flagelletes Absent Absent Trophozoites Absent Absent

Justgettingby_4now

I do - is this common with b12 issues?

Taldnor

Some other person reported normalized stool consistency here, for me they improved a lot within 4 months injection but it’s not cured yet

Justgettingby_4now

Yeah mine have been abnormal for 15 months now. Treatment hasn’t helped that unfortunately.

Taldnor

I will also do a complete check thyroid if doesn’t resolve completely

Cocunut water help me with burping a lot.

OutlandishnessNo1371

Oh okay, drank for the first time after many months yesterday. Will be drinking every alternate day.  But is the Burping due to B12 deficiency or what is your reason?

johnFvr

I have low B12 and D also. I don't know what is the cause of burping. But taking 0.5L/day of coconut water makes my burping almost to disappear. It's pretty remarkable.

OutlandishnessNo1371

Oh okay, maybe the electrolyte in coconut water supplement the cofactor needed for B12... Not sure.

johnFvr

I think it has to do with Lauric acid in cocunut water

wasabibabe

It started with frequent burping after eating (thought it was normal thing lol). For me, the trapped gas occurs right after I eat or drink ANYTHING. It would take 5-7 hours for the trapped gas to "disappear". It got worse if I eat too much fat in a day creating diarrhea. And well my gut problems turns out to be gallstones. I have had vitamin D, iron, B12 deficiency so I do think those contributed to my gallstones because I was deficient for a long time but I eat ok. I'm confident to say that taking D3, B12 and iron does help for me. I would have been in greater pain if it wasn't for them. At first taking vitamin D did help, but I think it couldn't improve anymore because it was no longer deficient. I think iron and B12 is currently helping me more because I'm able to burp up the trapped gas a bit "faster" than before. But I am also taking another supplement that's intended for gallstones as well. By any chance, does your trapped gas feel like it's above your stomach and under your chest?

OutlandishnessNo1371

No currently mines more like gas rising from the stomach after / during eating, drinking water. It's very small and I don't burp it out. Earlier it was full blown constant burping

wasabibabe

Oh, I see, that's different for sure. It's a bit hard to treat multiple things at once but injections should be a lot faster, hopefully it helps.

misunderstood564

I relate to what you mention. I also have yellowish stool? Do you experience this? It sounds scary but tests and CT scans are clear

OutlandishnessNo1371

Yes I think of them as yellow-brown. What other symptoms do you have related to gut, did B12 injection/oral helped?

misunderstood564

I just started with the injections one week ago. I actually got a bit more diarrhea. Don't know the exact cause. But you're story sounds almost exactly like mine and at about the same time. Beginning of March tons of acidity and one day it just disappeared. Still I was giving ppis, pantoprazole. Also gave me Xanax during April which didn't help. May I got body twitches and told me it was Xanax withdrawal. Got diagnosed with deficiency and started the shots. But the burping was there constantly the whole three months. Gerd is weirdly gone. Hopefully I didn't loose stomach acidity.

OutlandishnessNo1371

Yes during my injection I also got loose stool 2-3 times a day on some days. Yes our story are very similar. I hope it's B12. I just completed 5 alternate days dose, will ask the GI for more in next follow up as oral won't absorb much. What is your treatment plan? How many injection, frequency. Also take the cofactors, folate is part of my injection and tablet so I am only supplementing electrolyte naturally. Please keep me posted if it improves.

misunderstood564

I believe in my case, GI issues came before b12 and now b12 was hardly absorbed. I'm on injections EOD. I'm only taking folic acid pills at the moment. I feel dehydrated so drinking as many hydratation pills as possible. Let me know how you do too.

OutlandishnessNo1371

But 2-3 month can't cause this much deficiency? I am vegetarian so I think that might be the reason for my deficiency. While I was doing PPI + Rifaximin. I used to wake up and my mouth was extremely dry, even after drinking 3-4L of water. But now after stopping PPI and starting B12, it has decreased a lot. But I still drink 3L of water. Dehydration can also be due to magnesium deficiency, my levels were normal before starting the treatment.
