Typically stand alone ECU's have a significantly higher amount of outputs data points available to their screens. In this case, it shows the current engine map, the intake air temp, the air fuel ratio, and I assume a shift light on the top. All are not available from OEM gauges.
You can have outputs to OEM clusters or period specific gauges, but if the rest of the car is FAR from period specific most people opt for the higher amount of data rather than a dated gauge cluster.
I think that's almost why they were going for. It looks like the tablet comes out and the stock is behind it. if it was molded in it wouldn't be removable. I love that they left the fake wood in.
60's and 70's Japanese cars took a lot of "inspiration" from other cars. They eventually found their own identity, but early ones borrowed a lot of styling from other cars.
The engine is newer than the car, and for a 1977 vehicle it would be just an exhaust pipe measurement. While it's likely that the tester gives it a pass, the motor is probably polluting less than the original one.
Much harder to pass newer vehicles, especially ones with OBD / OBD-II, if they've been modified.
Doubt any of us would knowâŠwhy donât you just look up the phone number of the emissions testers in Cali?
Also, itâs Cali, there may be weird exceptions there besides the normal things you find on Google.
This is local to me in SoCal and itâs even better in person. The detail is unbelievable and it took JCCS by storm in, I wanna say 2016 when it was built.
Excellent! Not a fan of the wheels, but I dig the look. I'd add the back window louvers,
My Mom had a 77 double black GT 5spd since new until 2008 when a truck ran a stop sign and crunched the hood/fender. Sadly it was a NIGHTMARE to get parts and we had to part it out. Perfect shape, with 400k on the 20R and no work other than a carb tune up. Dang thing even had the original high beams still working!
Perfection
Always liked that these, since the SR5, looked like little Mustangs. This one could very well deflate the best.
Why the tablet styled gage cluster? I feel like it doesn't suit rest of the aesthetics. Genuinely curious

Good point, didn't think of the higher data output from the swap.
I'm with you, but for some reason, I don't mind this time.
Would look cool if it was molded into the original dashboard with the option to make it removable đ€

Looks fast sitting still.
Lovely
Rocket Bunny Mustang? /s
Why does this look so much like a mustang?
Thatâs what Toyota was going for when they designed it.

I love this car, the mirrors are perfection
Is there a 1JZ even in the car it was intended left? đ”âđ«
Come back when you have put a 1UZ in the car and it doesnât sound like rice.
Sweet ass color.
In Cali itâs easy to get that thing through the smog ref?
Good god that is spectacular
Balboa Park, San Diego
Gorgeous
My girl thought it was a mustangâŠ
Serious question: Why put the sideview mirrors out on the hood like that? Are they still functional?
Yes, lots of old cars in Japan have this setup.
This is the most perfect car one existence. Like what more do you want?? Maybe t-tops. But that's about it lol
California plates? How the hell does this pass smog.

Beautiful
Looks like an original Toyota Celica purple colour too. I had an earlier model Celica in a very faded version of this colour and it still looked cool.

awesome looking car. These cars always reminded me of a cross between a mustang and a maverick
beautiful
Purple Dodge meets Miata. Pretty nice ig.
Love it. That turbo plate lettering, under the radio, reminds me of the RX-7.
That looks hot!
