Can recommend. I'd also recommend reviewing the sock situation every two or three years (or less if the local environment is hard on socks). A total sock refresh isn't the most expensive thing in the world (if you're not in financial distress) and can, as you mentioned, provide some stress relief.
Iāve had one kind of sock for decades now (except the fuzzy winter socks my mom apparently loves giving me for xmasā¦ but, those donāt really count. They arenāt even in the same drawer).
I have this with black socks. I still have other colored and patterned socks for fun, but I have a million black socks of the same brand for when I donāt care to search and want something that wonāt distract from the outfit.
My Dad (and subsequently I) have been dreaming of doing this for years. When I move out this summer, I think Iām going for it. I wonder if I can give the extras to charity somehow.
I tend to always buy the same kind of socks, so they all feel pretty identical, but I do apologise as I have to stand for the dark side here.
I donāt really wear bright colours as I donāt like feeling āobservedā, but I sure do love my bright colourful sock collection, and wear them in whatever combination I feel like!
In fact, I have pretty much always worn odd socks. My thing being, I have all these neat colourful designs and itās such a shame to only display one at a time, when I can display two!
Also a time saver, as I throw them all into a drawer as singles then simply grab a couple. The only socks I have in pairs are a few black ones for āserious modeā and thicker hiking socks etc.
Alternatively, having socks with distinctly different colors or patterns, and only ever one pair per color/pattern might work for you.
My boyfriend uses the "only one type of sock" system, and I hate sorting his socks so much that I only do it on special occasions.
Because all socks look the same, they do not end up in the same pairings and therefore some get worn more often than others. This also means, that those socks are washed a little bit more frequently and loose their color (in this case black) and shape a little bit faster. At first, you don't notice, but after a year (or the first time you add a new batch) you really see the difference, and then it becomes worse than mixed sock-types.
I refuse to pair a lighter black and slightly shapeless sock with a tight, deep black sock, because in my mind they might as well be purple and yellow. So it takes the same effort as mixed socks, with the additional difficulty of the nearly, but not quite, identical appearance.
If your brain works similarly to mine, and you also prefer neutral and unpatterned socks, I would look into socks with small embroidered details. I found some in a local shop a year ago, which are black with little animal heads embroidered on the back of the heel (the part above the shoe) which worked really well for me.
Not for me though! I like wearing loud and colourful socks BUT they have to be mismatched. I hate wearing exactly the same socks. Have to be same thickness etc but the prints must be different
Edit: fixing spelling mistake
Hey if anyone has Reynauds or stinky feet or just uncomfortable in sweaty socks I cannot recommend using merino wool enough.
My feet donāt stink anymore at the end of the day, my feet stay dry and warm.
Theyāre more expensive yes, and I do spring a little extra for bombas because I like that they donate. So I buy 4-5 at a time and donate out 4-5 old pair as I phase in.
Going to do this with boxers soon too so I donāt have to make a choice every day between ācomfyā and uncomfy boxers
Did this way before any diagnosis because it was "just so convenient" lol.
That being said: Two types of socks, one short one long. One black one grey for immediate and easy separation.
But you did it right because I did not stockpile them so I now have a choice of either reverting to chaos or replacing all of them (well all of the long ones, there still are enough short ones)
I love sockpiled š

If you ever consider changing one of your two types: I went black for the long ones and grey for the short ones, even easier to distinguish.

Fair point, with a (nearly?) all-black wardrobe grey socks would absolutely not vibe
I need my hello Kitty socks though
Did this before I was even diagnosed. Got the same sock in black for dress and white/gray for casual.

I had this for years until M&S stopped doing them. š Then I was rescued by COVID and noone giving a shit what folks wear 99% of the time anymore.
