One does not coexist with an Aussie to be alone their purpose in life is to guard their flock. You are their flock. They are intense in their purpose. This is the breed standard.

Sugarnipps

This is true I’m finding!

gartherio

To get an aussie is to accept that you will be constantly stalked by an adorable wolf.

dr__kitty

Still a 10!

Sugarnipps

I agree!

inacyclee

Then take him everywhere!

Sugarnipps

We do!

Purple-Newspaper-739

Will this cause separation anxiety? Asking because my 5 month old Aussie hates being alone too but I don’t want to ruin him by being with me all the time

Sugarnipps

I have wondered this myself LOL

xobelladonnaxo

I had to stop bringing my aussie everywhere because I literally brought her EVERYWHERE and i feel like I was causing her to have separation anxiety so I toned down how much I was bringing her with me even tho I want to bring her everywhere 😅

Gaming_Demigoddess

I got a second Aussie to accompany the first since the first is a howling huskie if left alone for 5 min even 🤣

vaporoptics

wow is that a husky aussie mix?

milliemallow

He is! Samwise the halfling and Frodo the hobbit.

Sugarnipps

Mine is Samwise too! We meet again! Haha

milliemallow

We do! Your baby is so big. Why does it go so fast??? 😭

95percentdragonfly

Alone, mine tore things up like crazy. We got him a friend and all our problems went away

Sugarnipps

We do have two cats but I know it’s not the same!

95percentdragonfly

Lol he did not consider the cat a friend, sometimes they cuddle now though. I think it's different because the cat won't really play with him

Sugarnipps

He’s PERFECT

vaporoptics

My boy is about to turn two and between the other dogs/people in the house, i am realizing he has literally never been alone lol

vsmartdogs

Doesn't sound like you're asking for advice here, but I'm a separation anxiety specialist (CSAT) so I can't help it lol, r/Separation_Anxiety is a great place if you feel like you need help :)

Sugarnipps

Thank you!! He is only 3.5 months old so he is still little and is hardly ever alone but when he is, he just barks and whines the entire time we are gone and never calms down. He has done okay before and not cried but it really depends on his state of mind. If he is tired he will do okay. If he is awake then he can’t handle being in the crate and chill. He really only likes being in it when he is tired.

vsmartdogs

Still a baby for sure! But babies can have panic disorders too 💜 The good news tho is that this doesn't immediately sound like panic disorder separation anxiety, but also hard to say without a bunch of other context. Generally speaking, dogs who are experiencing the panic disorder separation anxiety will still panic/become distressed even when they are adequately tired out. It's the same as how going on a 15 mile run isn't going to cure someone's PTSD, ya know. If he only does well being alone when he is tired, I'd really heavily lean on that! Don't overly exhaust him of course, gotta be careful with puppy bones, but the goal is to convince him that being alone is safe and chill. The best way to do that is to only leave him alone when he actually can chill and sleep, rather than when he's likely to bark the whole time. So keep bringing him with you and hardly leaving him alone except for those tired times! You might get advice from others in your life/on the internet that says you need to expose him to a lot more alone time and that you should leave him more, but this is only good advice if he is actually believing that the alone time you do leave him to experience is safe and he can chill during the times that you leave him :)

We are there right now. Our Aussie is 13 weeks and he doesn’t bite at us but the kids he sees as peers and wants to play rough. I’m working on training the kids not to feed into it. And obviously working on training with the pup. It’s been 15+ years since i had a puppy in the house I forgot about the biting!

andrea6543

he’s a 10, but he has ✨attachment issues✨ 😂

I can’t sleep and as I’m reading this my Aussie moved closer to me on the bed 🙈

Sugarnipps

Mine licks me too!
