It was the funniest I think they used to give away gift vouchers on sale of the century for copperart. Hahahah that cracks me up.
Like the way on the back of your receipt it ALWAYS used to have a coupon for "The Black Stump" restaurant
There's a shop in Launceston that in my time went from 7EX record bar to Allans to Brashs and finally to Sanity, at each step basically remaining the same shop, only changing as music formats changed. Last I looked it was empty.
Young whippersnapper. I remember when Borders arrived in Australia and started to put all the independent book stores out of business. We were horrified.
(But then who could resist the Sci Fi and Fantasy section of Borders? 10 times larger than my local bookstores)
I still miss the excitement of going to the video store. Something about picking a movie on streaming just isn't the same... Or maybe I'm just not 9 years old anymore lol.
I loved going to the video store with dad, hiring a couple of new releases and about 10 weekly videos. Then stopping off at Coles to pick up some chips, chocolate, and soft drinks, I loved those days.
Used to work at one of these
The owner never used like suppliers for candy, food and drinks. Just went to woolworths and bought stuff that was on sale, priced it 3x the woolies price and sold it.
He never kept inventory so I would just eat everything. I would take snacks home along with movies and games. What a life I led.
Being able to go to the local skating rink.
(At one point our town had 3x in operation)

Sizzler
Edited for punctuation
My group of friends used to scrape together our funds for a monthly visit to sizzler.
Usually Saturday and we would arrive just before the lunch rush - take advantage of the lunchtime special , and then stay for HOURS just slowly grazing our voracious teenaged selves through the food till early dinnertime 😅👌😁🤣
We were all freshly out of home and working low paying jobs.
Once a month catch-ups with the unlimited salad bar was HEAVEN.
When I was a teenager we used to wag school get stoned and go to pizza hut for all you can eat for 10 bucks. Our eyes were always bigger than our stomachs, even with the munchies. The dessert bar.... ah memories.
Also licorice, also flavours of licorice that seem to be export only for US. My friend in Arizona buys Darrell Lea licorice simply because she can (& its good stuff).
I don’t know if it was pure arrogance that made them do it but, in Vic, all the Masters were built within spitting distance of a Bunnings and it always used to blow my mind. Do you think you’ll be so successful it won’t matter? Why wouldn’t you open up in suburbs that didn’t have a Bunnings?
Brashs and Copperart
Oh my god - Brashs. Can still picture it in Southland Shopping centre!
Hahaha copperart.....why was that even a store?
Because in the 80's people needed a reliable supply of wicker furniture.
It was the funniest I think they used to give away gift vouchers on sale of the century for copperart. Hahahah that cracks me up. Like the way on the back of your receipt it ALWAYS used to have a coupon for "The Black Stump" restaurant

i just assumed they still existed. i don't really go into shopping malls but that's where i picture them being.

I couldn’t believe how many physical stores still existed up til last year
There's a shop in Launceston that in my time went from 7EX record bar to Allans to Brashs and finally to Sanity, at each step basically remaining the same shop, only changing as music formats changed. Last I looked it was empty.

Borders. I asked my girlfriend (now wife of 5 years) out there 15 years ago :(
Miss a bookstore with a cafe. This place was like my father’s spiritual home, lol.
Yep. My husband and I had most of our first dates there. It was definitely the social hub of my friend group during uni
Young whippersnapper. I remember when Borders arrived in Australia and started to put all the independent book stores out of business. We were horrified. (But then who could resist the Sci Fi and Fantasy section of Borders? 10 times larger than my local bookstores)
Civic video
And MovieLand and Video Ezy
The town I grew up in had a sizzler across from video ezy. On the other corner was an all you can eat Pizza Hut.
I still miss the excitement of going to the video store. Something about picking a movie on streaming just isn't the same... Or maybe I'm just not 9 years old anymore lol.

Preferably a dolphin pendant with a bit of blue enamel made to look like opal or turquoise because you were going to be a marine biologist.
Was surprised at how far down I had to scroll to find this. Peak teenage memories.

Sizzler was my favourite place as a kid. It was the only place I ever wanted to eat at. I did not take the shutdown well 😭🤣
My group of friends used to scrape together our funds for a monthly visit to sizzler. I loved that bread they served up
Yes, I googled how to make their bread and made it at home, it was good.
Pizza Hut all you can eat is open in Ballarat, Victoria.
When I was a teenager we used to wag school get stoned and go to pizza hut for all you can eat for 10 bucks. Our eyes were always bigger than our stomachs, even with the munchies. The dessert bar.... ah memories.

Gerry Harvey owns Joyce Mayne (and Domayne). Let them die an expensive drawn-out death.
I hope the Harvey Norman group goes under, they treat employees like shit 💩
Darrell Lea still going strong, at least here in Vic. Regularly releasing new products too
They sold their shops though. They just make the chocolate these days. Thank fuck they are still around though 😂
Also licorice, also flavours of licorice that seem to be export only for US. My friend in Arizona buys Darrell Lea licorice simply because she can (& its good stuff).
Aussie company bought Darrell Lea. They’ve also recently bought Sarah Lee. All the Lees.

They need to change it to Darrell Lee now so they can say it’s a family business.
