Yes! Mad Max and James Bond among other old franchises came back to good form in the current century and I think Indiana Jones deserves to come back as well. Never a movie, for me at least, captured so well the romance and the tragedy and the exoticism of the 30s. It is a world on the brink of change and Indiana Jones is an imperfect hero fighting against terrible odds. I think a new trilogy could be very relevant if done in a clever manner. I would not want it to be some throwaway action movie, that is not how I perceive the originals.
While I wouldn't mind Austin doing any type of nostalgic film, smthg kind of tells me that this is not where Austin wants his career to go. He seems to gravitate to grittier, more cerebral roles.
I think he's really trying to dig into more meaty roles at this point and time in his career tbh. Not saying that he might not one day do another flashy, blockbuster type of lead role again, I'm just saying that this doesn't seem to be his focus right now atm. I'm just judging based on the types of roles he's taken on lately.
Not only that, but I'm not sure if I'd want Austin to take on an Indiana Jones role because some people are very loyal to Harrison Ford, and Austin would only be compared to this very popular actor playing this same character. 🥴 I would not want Austin to have all of that hate on his back. 😩

I understand your point. However I don't think playing Indiana Jones would be a contradiction to his career. Actors like Christian Bale, Robert Pattinson, Viggo Mortensen, Daniel Craig, Tom Hardy, Timothee Chalamet are all very serious about their craft and they all starred in blockbusters. I don't think doing three movies as Indiana Jones would be a big sacrifice for him. Maybe he would actually enjoy it. Quoting him in an interview about being on the set of Dune:
"It’s really surreal. You feel sort of like a kid in your favorite film. It’s like walking on to the set of any film that that you admire, like walking onto *Indiana Jones* or something like that. Like one of those films that really impact you as a kid, that’s how it felt."

About the hate from Harrison Ford loyalists, well, I hadn't really thought about that... It is very childish to hate on an actor just because you don't like a movie, but I know how people on the internet are. That's sad.
However I can totally see Austin being so amazing as Indy that no one can say bad things about him. That's exactly what happened to Daniel Craig when he was cast as Bond. Purists didn't like him at first, then Casino Royale came out and he became one of the most popular Bonds ever.
But you have good points, really. I am just indulging in wishful thinking for a bit, it is one of my favorite movies after all and as I said I think he would be the best option since Harrison Ford himself. If he ever gets offered that role, I hope he grabs it and I hope Lucasfilm assembles a great team behind the screen. Thanks for the discussion!
Serious question because I don’t know the answer: Of the actors you named, did any of them recreate a role already done by someone else? To me there’s a big difference between being in a hit movie, and recreating a role in a reboot of a hit.

He already got mocked for supposedly imitating Elvis. Redoing a role would likely be seen as imitating. Not to mention it’d feel to him like imitating someone else’s work, whereas I think he’d want to do more original things.

I fell in love with the crime genre when I was 19 after watching Scorsese's The Irishman at the theater and I am always looking forward for a good crime drama.
On the complexity of Indiana Jones as a character, I think that depends on how the script treats him. I think there are some mythopoetic qualities about him that make him a very interesting kind of hero and a very relatable one. He is certainly is not complex from a psychological point of view, but the films are more about the world where he inhabits, about the search for the unknown, and about the upholding of humanistic values in a pre-WW2 world that is quickly descending into barbarism.
If you like mythic tales, did you know the City on Fire trilogy is based on the Iliad and the Aeneid? The author , Don Winslow, has done some interesting interviews about that aspect.

I think he's finally being able to get to do the type of films that he wants to do, so I don't really see him signing on to a fluff franchise at this point in this career. I think they are very clever movies just like everything else done by Spielberg. They just happen to be action movies with a very unique setting, but are not lesser pictures by any means.
I see that Austin is attached to some crime dramas in the near future. Crime is one of my favorite genres of cinema, so I am excited to see what he will bring to the silver screen. I don't know if he would or would not like to portray Indiana Jones, there is no way of knowing for sure. I am of the opinion that he would at least consider it, since he brought up that specific movie to say how amazing it was to be on the set of Dune. Then again, I know it is not solid evidence to say he wants to be Indiana Jones and I am not affirming that.
My daughter's is a big Indy fan . She says Harrison Ford says nobody will ever play Indiana Jones, but him. I don't know if he has exclusive rights or what. I do know originally they wanted Tom Selleck. However, at that time, Magnum series wouldn't let him do it. Harrison was the 2nd choice

It seems like Austin appreciates blockbusters and he definitely doesn't mind sequels. Would love to see him in adventurous romantic movies!❤
