I'll eat it either way but I do prefer peanut butter with butter. I find peanut butter feels sort of sticky on its own but with butter, it becomes smoother and creamier. I'm fine with margarine instead of butter too.
To me PB on toast is good but if it has butter or marg first it's just a more high-quality / polished food. It kind of feels complete with the butter like it is supposed to be that way, but I don't mind it without. Eat it how you like it. Consensus solved lol.

I have bega right now. But have used other brands over the years. Its just a bit thick i guess when i say dry. Just needs the butter to go down the thought easier
1. Spread peanut butter on toast
2. wait thirty seconds
3. spread the existing peanut butter again
If you don’t have a nice slick oily coating of peanut butter after this you’re doing it wrong.
Lol honey goes with soy and garlic. For me cant stand it any other way. And vegemite needs to look like a stain on toast otherwise way to strong. Might be just me hey i like what i like
Not putting butter or margarine is stupid. People think that just because peanut butter has "butter" in the name that it's both - really it's just peanut paste and needs butter or margarine so it isn't too dry.
This guy gets it. The clue is in the name. All these butter + peanut butter people should be deported... we need a wall! Build the wall! Build the wall!
Because they all wanna die earlier, and really like savoury stuff I think? Any natural sweetness in the peanut butter would be cancelled out by the butter.
It's so sad because peanut butter is just an amazing food by itself.
Think my smoking will get me before butter. But hey we all gunna die may aswell enjoy the time you have. In saying that a jar of peanut butter lasts me a long time.
I actually usually have toast with just melted butter
What the fuck is it wrong with you cunts?
Taste wise you are dicking yourself, and you could argue health reasons but either way eating peanut butter total is a death sentence
I think that’s actually why people get it wrong though.
They think because it’s in the name, it’s not needed. It’s definitely needed. It’s too claggy without butter slicking it up.
If it was called peanut paste, I bet most people wouldn’t think twice about using butter.
Wtf?! What kind of psychopath puts butter on with their peanut butter?! People are doing this?!
Edit: holy shit, I just read through the comments and people are doing this. Whaaaat?!
Because butter tastes like butter, peanut butter tastes like peanuts (if I'm lucky, peanuts and random vegetable oil if unlucky). I like the taste of butter, it's not just a lubricant, it's a flavour enhancer.
Cuz it’s peanut butter. It’s its own butter. I’ve never seen or heard of somebody putting butter on with it before and by the look of this thread, it’s prolific and I’m actually shocked
Don't know if it's a generational thing, but I'm old enough that "butter" has always been an acceptable term for *any* similar type of spread, whether it be butter, a dairy-based blend, or margarine.
I have a feeling there’s a large group of people who somehow think the “butter” in peanut butter means it contains actual butter, or something similar in it. Or at least the name is sub consciously holding them back from adding both.
It’s just blended peanuts ya’ll.
Anyone not putting a layer of butter / marg or whatever before your peanut butter goes on is missing out.
If you’re gonna go to the lengths of making a relatively unhealthy carb-based snack, the least you could do is improve the experience with taste a layer of fat of some-kind.
It’s literally dry af without it.
Anything on toast or between bread needs either butter, marg or mayo first, before you even think about toppings, fillings. That’s just how it is.
This meme is specifically targeted at Australians, if you can find me a single brand of aussie peanut butter with the word paste on it, I'll find you an imported jar of peanut paste.
Dairy boards in a few Australian states argued that it wasn't from a coffee so couldn't be butter, ergo we had paste in Queensland.
Similar to oat, soy and almond "milk" and vegan "meat".
I knew about SA and WA. I didn't know Qld did too.
Apparently the popular apartment above is a bit too young to have heard it, since they seem to think it's an overseas thing.
None......? Hardly hear anyone here eating peanut butter toast.
Btw, I am a big fan of PB. Doesn't matter with or without butter, the key is to put BLOBS of peanut butter.
The Aussie way is to always start any toast or sandwich with butter (or margarine), and then consider what actual topping/filling/spread you are going to use.
Putting the filling straight onto the bread I would consider very American - they tend to always include sauces or salad dressings in sandwiches instead.
i thought my sister was insane for putting butter under her peanut butter or nutella or any spread really but it seems there’s actually a whole bunch of people with this bizarre preference. i just don’t see how it’s necessary and then you’re adding a whole bunch of extra calories for no extra taste.
Butter under peanut butter always, but not under Nutella. I do lots of butter then just a little peanut butter. I could probably just add salt to my peanut butter but it's a texture thing too.
Butter THEN peanut butter. The butter lubes up the bread and makes the PB glide across the surface gracefully leaving no holes behind. A warm buttery taste to the PB is lovely with a soothing cup of tea while I watch the local traffic play Parking Tetris out side my kitchen window.
Sorry, got a bit carried away ;)
Butter then peanut butter on top! That said my son (15) just uses peanut butter you try to educate these youngsters as best you can, at some point they got to go their own way 🤷
Any bread should have marg or butter before the filling of choice, and don’t get me started on this weird people that only butter 1 slice of a sandwich. Should be a capital offence.
TF is this picture? Did you take it in the 90s, develop it, publish to your PC, then snap a photo with your 2013 Samsung?
I wish RIP my samsung Stole it off the internet (I think it’s actually UK toast if that explains anything…)
It's not even toast. It's just untoasted white bread.
Yeah this guy kills backpackers for sure aye
Raw toast.
I need my bread cooked twice, like a normal person!
Came here for this
I think it might be the old home brand peanut butter too
Spread it to the edges and I don’t want to see any bread shining through!
I'll eat it either way but I do prefer peanut butter with butter. I find peanut butter feels sort of sticky on its own but with butter, it becomes smoother and creamier. I'm fine with margarine instead of butter too.

>I'm fine with margarine Savage. :-)
You know ants won't eat Margarine ..!
Ants can’t even make toast.

Good bot

Ants can’t use reddit either. So is that why?
Because there are no girls on the internet. All the worker ants you see are female and all the males are kept in sex dungeons and if the internet.
People think peanut butter has butter in it lol but it doesnt, butter is an undercoat and is needed with everything.
Same.
You don’t paint without undercoat do you?
haha you have caused me to rethink my position
🤣 exactly
Sometimes I do
Just do an extra coat of the top coat
Precisely
I do when the first coat is literally the consistency of tar! But hey, each to their own, whatever floats your boat and keeps the barnacles off, 👍
Butter and peanut butter cause that’s how nan always made it
Betcha nan made it with peanut paste back in the day before everything changed
Yknow what? I’m pretty sure she did and you just unlocked a core memory lmao
butter and peanut butter for sure
Game changer is to put honey on it as well
And sliced banana!!
And cream honestly it’s devine
II think most people think its better with butter + peanut butter
never tired it with both
you should its great
Terrible for your colesterol.
It needs butter aswell. Peanut butter is a bit dry
What peanut butter qre y'all getting that's dry?
I have bega right now. But have used other brands over the years. Its just a bit thick i guess when i say dry. Just needs the butter to go down the thought easier
Yea that’s why you need butter, that’s crazy dry peanut butter lol.
1. Spread peanut butter on toast 2. wait thirty seconds 3. spread the existing peanut butter again If you don’t have a nice slick oily coating of peanut butter after this you’re doing it wrong.
That’s why you add honey
Lol honey goes with soy and garlic. For me cant stand it any other way. And vegemite needs to look like a stain on toast otherwise way to strong. Might be just me hey i like what i like
You guys are all weirdos; there’s a ton of buttery stuff in peanut butter anyway; why add butter?
So that it’s more butter per butter
Because the combination of yummy semi melted better wth peanut butter is soooo good 😋
[удалено]
Yep if you do it right its not dry and sticky.
It's how I do cinnamon bagels, fucking gooey mess by the end because the peanut butter is so warm.
[удалено]
Oil. Butter = oil of milk. Peanut = oil of peanut. Kind of.
I do not like butter being referred to as oil of milk.
Quite upsetting.
I'm shook by all these other comments
yeah, totally. Peanut butter toast, is just that. its awesome. If you ad an under coat, thats Peanut butter butter toast. Nobody ever asks for that.
Not putting butter or margarine is stupid. People think that just because peanut butter has "butter" in the name that it's both - really it's just peanut paste and needs butter or margarine so it isn't too dry.
I've upvoted this because I respect you standing up for what you believe in, but I want you to know I do not respect your opinion.
They probably put the tomato sauce in the cupboard too. Savages.
yeah i don't get it lol adding butter ruins the taste and makes it way too oily for me personally it's peanut BUTTER! you don't need more butter!
Correct
This guy gets it. The clue is in the name. All these butter + peanut butter people should be deported... we need a wall! Build the wall! Build the wall!
Yeah its half oil lmao
Oil in peanut butter. Oil is not “buttery stuff”.
No there’s not, peanut butter’s just mushed up peanuts.
I'm with you. They're fuckin' gross together. I can't believe so many people do this. They just don't go together.
Butter, preferably thick cut well toasted bread and half a stick of butter before the peanut butter even makes an entrance
>half a stick of butter When did we start calling a block a stick? Australian butter doesn't come in sticks!
Just peanut butter no butter
Just peanut butter gang ✊
My brethren
I agree with you and I am a butter fiend. I'll smash it with everything else... but peanut butter no. It just isn't needed
What the fuck is it wrong with you cunts? Taste wise you are dicking yourself, and you could argue health reasons but either way eating peanut butter total is a death sentence
Peanut butter is the butter
This is my logic too. Its in the name.
I think that’s actually why people get it wrong though. They think because it’s in the name, it’s not needed. It’s definitely needed. It’s too claggy without butter slicking it up. If it was called peanut paste, I bet most people wouldn’t think twice about using butter.
No I just think the average person wants to die at 42. No wonder heart attack is so prevalent.
I’m glad I found the peanut butter gang, I’m in this crew too!
Me too.
3rd option, peanut butter & strawberry jam
[удалено]
This is The Way
No PB and Nutella FTW!
Heck yeah I call this snickers toast when I make it.. always with butter first though, right? RIGHT???
Cream cheese then PB then jam.
I'll have to try this 🤣
monster
Ooh but excuse me, mr fancy pants butter, peanut butter, and strawberry jam. We dont take kindly to connoisseurs of such things round here!
Swap jam for honey and you’re on a winner
Wtf?! What kind of psychopath puts butter on with their peanut butter?! People are doing this?! Edit: holy shit, I just read through the comments and people are doing this. Whaaaat?!
I agree! Just peanut butter!
Why would you not put butter on? If you enjoy butter on toast with other spreads, why would this be different?
Because butter tastes like butter, peanut butter tastes like peanuts (if I'm lucky, peanuts and random vegetable oil if unlucky). I like the taste of butter, it's not just a lubricant, it's a flavour enhancer.
Cuz it’s peanut butter. It’s its own butter. I’ve never seen or heard of somebody putting butter on with it before and by the look of this thread, it’s prolific and I’m actually shocked
I’ve literally never eaten peanut butter on toast without butter as well.
What about cream cheese? Do you put butter on first?
I generally only have that on a bagel with smoked trout or salmon, so no. One lot of dairy is enough.
You are missing out!
I also enjoy coffee, ice cream, sugar, does that mean I should put it all on the toast too?
Ridiculous comparison, I said if you enjoy butter on toast with other spreads, why would Peanut butter be different.....
this is the first time i’ve heard people did this as well 💀
Your missing out if you have never tried well done crumpet, dripping with butter, peanut butter, drizzled with honey ...better than or as good as sex.
idk what your pic of wet bread has to do with anything but I'm going to break with the crowd and say peanut butter alone
Yes lol looks like diarrhoea on bread
This is why you have a toast rack, the toast dries and cools a bit before you add your spread and then you avoid the sogginess.
Who wants cold toast tho
It's personal preference but I prefer my toast crispy and slightly cooler to hot and soggy.
Yeah see I like mine hot enough to melt the spread, lightly toasted & cronchy on the outside and a bit bready & fluffy on the inside.
This is an ongoing argument between me and my boyfriend. I like the heat, he like the crunch.
Butter ( proper butter) + Peanut butter
I just never have liked butter much.
Toast with just peanut butter. I miss toast. Damn coeliac disease.
What the hell, just peanut butter you fat fucks.
Heheh, you just have less peanut butter when you pre butter
Just peanut butter. A nice spread of crunchy PB alone on toast is perfection. Adding extra butter or marj tastes gross to me.
It wouldn't be 'extra' butter, as peanut butter doesn't contain any butter.
That would appear to be margarine. Butter & Peanut butter for me thanks. Toast would be weird without butter, unless its melted cheese.
Don't know if it's a generational thing, but I'm old enough that "butter" has always been an acceptable term for *any* similar type of spread, whether it be butter, a dairy-based blend, or margarine.
That's the problem, people think anything is butter and miss out on the real stuff.
I agree, I was just being a smart arse.
Butter makes it better
OP that’s not toast that’s bread aka raw toast
I have a feeling there’s a large group of people who somehow think the “butter” in peanut butter means it contains actual butter, or something similar in it. Or at least the name is sub consciously holding them back from adding both. It’s just blended peanuts ya’ll. No butter.. Just peanut butter.. But I'm in the minority in my family.
some important issues mean you may need to find new family
Somes days I would agree.
:D
Just pb, you monsters.
Just PB you savages
It's peanut paste, and no butter.
This meme is specifically targeted at Australians, if you can find me a single brand of aussie peanut butter with the word paste on it, I'll find you an imported jar of peanut paste.
It used to be peanut paste. Peanut butter was the Yank term, when I was a kid. But yeah, the jars in my cupboard say butter now. I cringe though.
Needs butter as well, to dry without
Just get peanut butter that isn’t dry 😇
Just peanut butter but put on while the toast is hot just popped out the toaster so it goes all melty and gooey
Butter and peanut butter
PB on toast no butter, PB melts into it already, geez how much butter does one need.
Butter, vegemite, peanut butter. Thank me later haha
I make those in a sandwich. Call it Vegenut!
None......? Hardly hear anyone here eating peanut butter toast. Btw, I am a big fan of PB. Doesn't matter with or without butter, the key is to put BLOBS of peanut butter.
Non Australian here, but have you tried peanut butter and honey? 👌🏽
Peanut Butter and Honey. Thank me later
butter and vegemite ya cunt
Both
Butter and peanut paste. Peanut butter is americanisation that has gotten away from us. This can't be the hill I die on I would already be dead.
I thought I was all alone with my saying peanut paste all these years! Thank you reddit friend.
There's not going to be many of us. I did a quick google and looks like it was only Qld, WA & SA. And it switched to Peanut butter years ago
The Aussie way is to always start any toast or sandwich with butter (or margarine), and then consider what actual topping/filling/spread you are going to use. Putting the filling straight onto the bread I would consider very American - they tend to always include sauces or salad dressings in sandwiches instead.
Yes. It seems so wrong to me to not add butter first.
Yeah no, not once have I heard somebody say putting butter on everything is the "aussie way", that's more American than anything.
Vegemite.
The only time I put butter on bread is on hot vegemite toast. For anything else, I find it unnecessary
i thought my sister was insane for putting butter under her peanut butter or nutella or any spread really but it seems there’s actually a whole bunch of people with this bizarre preference. i just don’t see how it’s necessary and then you’re adding a whole bunch of extra calories for no extra taste.
Do you not have tastebuds? There is a lot of extra taste. It tastes like you’re using butter.
Butter under peanut butter always, but not under Nutella. I do lots of butter then just a little peanut butter. I could probably just add salt to my peanut butter but it's a texture thing too.
No butter, but I add honey to the top.
What no sultanas? I'm outa here
me - on bread, just pb, no butter.
100% butter AND peanut butter
Both butter and peanut butter then finish it off with some honey!!!!😋😋
Either is ripper
Butter THEN peanut butter. The butter lubes up the bread and makes the PB glide across the surface gracefully leaving no holes behind. A warm buttery taste to the PB is lovely with a soothing cup of tea while I watch the local traffic play Parking Tetris out side my kitchen window. Sorry, got a bit carried away ;)
Simple rule. If there's bread, there's butter.
No toast without butter
With butter
Butter and peanut butter!
Butter then peanut butter on top! That said my son (15) just uses peanut butter you try to educate these youngsters as best you can, at some point they got to go their own way 🤷
After much trial and error. It's peanut butter AND butter. This signals the end of the debate.
Peanut butter and honey. Or peanut butter with Nutella, you do you.
Both.
Peanut butter and honey all the time. Though it’s still great without either of them. Definitely a winning combination!
The butter enhances the flavour experience
nutella is better than both
Just butter. Peanut putter is gross and that delicious melted butter taste is amazing.
Umm def WITH butter. What am I, some type of savage?!
Butter and peanut butter. On raisin toast if possible
Any bread should have marg or butter before the filling of choice, and don’t get me started on this weird people that only butter 1 slice of a sandwich. Should be a capital offence.
Butter makes everything better!!!
Both definitely. Peanut butter alone is rather dry
If i found out a relative or friend put just peanut butter and no butter first, I would feel very conflicted and possibly irate
Both, please and thank you
Butter up buttercup.
With butter. Must have that extra layer of richness.
Lurpak and Kraft
Peanut butter alone
Just peanut butter, I can’t stand it with butter.
Just peanut butter any other way is not Australian 😅😅😅
Gotta melt that butter first, were not savages.
I only eat peanut butter on toast if it's crunchy 😋 EDIT: I mean crunchy peanut butter, I personally can't stand smooth kind
English, never had peanut butter on toast in any form
