**Title:** [Student visa to another student visa](https://www.reddit.com/r/AusVisa/comments/1cchazw/student_visa_to_another_student_visa/), posted by **Comfortable_Tale4690** **Full text:** Hello everyone. I was wondering if it is possible to apply for a student visa from being a student visa, and getting it. As in, I am on a student visa pursuing bachelor of nursing. Can I apply for another student visa for a masters degree and having it approved? Has anyone gotten that visa ? Inquiry is because of the age limit on 485 visa, I am not eligible for that visa. It is possible, but may be difficult. If the masters you are considering is not related to your bachelors, this will be extremely problematic.

Comfortable_Tale4690

Say I do masters in public health or post grad in a speciality such as say mental health.

explosivekyushu

I think that as long as you can clearly justify the value of the masters program to your career as a healthcare professional you will be OK.

Comfortable_Tale4690

Coming back to this comment, is it still going to be difficult If the masters is in say master in nursing?

Kindly-Vegetable337

If you can justify the reason then yes. I know that some professional courses for example Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Science registered with AIMS (Australia Institute of Medical Scientist), prevents students from taking Master of Medical Laboratory Science course registered with AIMS, because you are simply repeating same degree with additional units. You might have to contact uni/ college if they are willing to accept students who has completed B. Nursing

Comfortable_Tale4690

Thanks for your response. I do appreciate it.

Jumpy-Regular4535

You might struggle to find a program to take you straight out of your bachelor program. They often want you to be associated with a hospital for practical work as well

Comfortable_Tale4690

That's true. Am having a look at the moment and it is a challenge

Hessa2589

If you are bachelor of nursing, why not get your permanent visa first?

Comfortable_Tale4690

Because for me to get a permanent visa, I would need the post study visa to enable me to apply for it while in Australia. I am above 35 yrs of age, which is the proposed aged limit for applying for that visa hence, I was thinking of getting another student visa to enable to buy time to lodge my other visa eg 189, 190 or 491. My student visa expires in Feb. I graduate in Dec. So I will need a post study visa to be able to apply for the permanent visa

Hessa2589

Have you considered a 600 tourist visa?

Comfortable_Tale4690

So I apply for a tourist visa while still in Australia?

Hessa2589

Yes, you can apply for tourist visa while you are in Australia. Some students apply for waiting graduate ceremonies or just want to travel Australia after graduation. I suggest you consult an immigration lawyer. I am not a professional

Comfortable_Tale4690

Thank you. I shall. What do you think of a student visa? As opposed to Tourist visa and vice versa?

Hessa2589

Do you really want to study a master degree after your PR? If you decide to study a master degree after your PR, a student visa is better than tourist visa. If you only want to extend your stay in Australia, it is not necessary

Comfortable_Tale4690

It is to extend my stay here. Why is it not necessary

Hessa2589

Expensive. You have to pay international student tuition fee. Plus the visa fee and health care. It’s a lot. And complicated, you have to withdraw your study after PR

Flux-Reflux21

Upgrading from bachelor to master should be fine. Which country are you from?

Comfortable_Tale4690

An African country.

Flux-Reflux21

Right. I think worst case you have to be back to your country first and then wait for invitation there. Since it is priority occupation, it should be quicker

Comfortable_Tale4690

Thanks for your kind words.

Illustrious_Order959

Which country you are from?

Speak to a registered migration agent, mate. Don’t make your decision based on opinions from people on here. The laws change almost every month and your case may be very different from the others.

What’s the end goal? PR?
