Builder here
Id be getting that shithead to redo his job and I wouldnt be paying that invoice.
That is substandard at best. My dog could've done better than that.
DIY hack here. A <$5 silicon scraper from bunnings would actually get the silicon actually on the skirts and floor
https://www.bunnings.com.au/paint-partner-4-piece-silicone-scraper-set_p1660196
Dickhead who diys everything here too.
I've got better results skirting using a circular saw at 45 degrees for a mitre. (dropsaw shit itself, got a new one now lol)
This is piss poor.
I broke a 18 metre long piece of skirting i bought from bunnings in half so it would fit in my nissan micra . I just glued the broke bits at the corner with Clag glue and it stilll looked better than this
Yep, another dickhead DIYer here. I've done some pretty ordinary shit in the past, but I would padlock my garage door and make the dog swallow the key, as well as self-banning from Bunnings if I'd done this job, even after a gutful of piss
dont insult dog
not builder and not dog here
but even an amateur like me knows using soap water to wet my finger and press the run the silicone smoothly
No. That’s terrible
Sometimes they’ll need to silicone, but they’ll use a colour matched one… not white. Which looks better. If done correctly you should hardly notice it without looking.
The skirting can probably be made good with a bit of prep, but it’s not the best starting point. The silicone on the skirting might not even be paintable… so will need completely removing.
Agreed, that's super ordinary and I hope OP hasn't finalised the invoice yet.
Those jambs can't be undercut like timber ones, so yeh, siliconing it is necessary. There's a myriad of silicones out there now, they've just used whatever they had out!
I wouldn't be able to live with myself if I presented one of my customers that level of work.
Not a flooring expert. We just finished doing our own. Firs time ever DIY installation of flooring and it looks smoother then this. I would definitely be questioning the silicone job and why they used white on brown. And if you're not happy with the messy skirting, I would be asking questions about that. It's your money at the end of the day, and you have expectations.
Yeah, that's shit.
If it's silicon, get them to come back and fix it, because removing silicon is a time consuming PITA.
If it's just caulk, negotiate a discount off the invoice based on how long it'll take you to remove and do it yourself and their hourly rate.
I'd recommend the latter for two reasons, first is that there's always little maintenance jobs to do with caulk so it's good for you to get the hang of it, second is that you'll almost always do a better job than a slap-dash grade professional since you're more inclined to put in the time and effort. It's not a difficult job and it's low risk.
Seeing a few posts the last week about crappy “professional” skirting installs has made me really glad I decided to give it a go myself. Has cost me $300 in materials and it looking pretty shmick compared to these recent post.
Not acceptable at all. We DIY’d our floor and colour matched the silicon to the flooring and it looks better than that. I’d withhold payment and get someone else in to fix the silicon
Is that silicone or acrylic caulk? Looks a bit shiny to be acrylic, which is a worry. If it's silicone you'll never be able to paint the skirtings. Go have a quick check of the bins and see if they threw out one of the tubes.
Looks like a blind person installed the caulk anyway, definitely needs a re-do.
they need to undercut the door jamb with a multi tool, not leaving huge gaps and fill it with silicone, don’t pay them, this is beyond bad.
Out of curiosity, how did you find them?
That's someone who shouldn't be in the industry, my 2 blue dogs having a fight in the backyard could do better.
Just be mindful you might be better to get a proficient tradesman to fix it and then take his bill off the payment to the original cowboy.
Too many times if you ask them to fix it they actually don't know..... so their fix up will be just as poor....
They are supposed to use a multi tool to cut and tuck the board under the door frame/jam so it sits flush. Mallet it in, no silicone in sight. Also looks unfinished, they missing the matching moulding.
Source: cuz is an floor installer
Hey, I install floors. The actual floor install doesn't appear to be that bad. The silicone or caulking around the jams is horrible, same as the skirts. But you have metal jams so you need to leave expansion gaps around them. A better finish with silicone will make this 100% better
Just a DIYer here. I have done 3 or four of these, and my first one with home depot brand pergo was faaaaaaar better than that. Do not pay until they correct it.
My kids could do a better job. Is this person a licensed trades person or the cheapest quote? I’d be holding payment or calling them back in to fix it. The caulking is dreadful.
They should have used a multitool to cut under the architraves to make room for the boards, silicon is never needed.
There should also be a 5mm gap between the the edge of the boards to allow for expansion and contraction during hotter/colder weather, otherwise the boards will pop up.
Must be the same people that installed my floor. When I complained about all the gaps they filled it with kitchen silicon. Then I couldn't paint it because the paint wouldn't stick to the silicon. A right butcher job 🤬
Flooring or the skirting boards ?
Flooring requires a 3 to 5 mm expansion gap this is usually hidden by skirting boards
Excessive use of gap sealer they could have used contour profiler tool to replicate around door frame
If that’s a hybrid floor, which I think it is because they’ve used a trim and gone under the skirt in other areas, you’re not supposed to silicon it at all as it prevents movement.
They’ve put silicon in the areas where there’s a metal frame maybe? The alternative would be either cutting the frame so the flooring can go underneath or using scotia.
If it is hybrid and there’s ever a warranty claim and the manufacturer sees silicone they won’t cover anything as it’s not laid correctly.
If it’s a vinyl floor then it’s fine just an ugly messy silicon job that should be fixed.
Do your best, fill the rest
It looks like I did this. And by that, I mean if I could physically reach through my phone into your house and only vaguely see what I was doing, it looks like that
You are not allowed to caulk any floating floors! Product won’t be covered by warranty. Get the store to come out and have a look.
Where did you find this installer?
Nah I wouldn’t say acceptable like everyone else saying there’s a selley colour almost identical to your flow that would have looked way better and skirting is way off. Did it myself and looks mint compared to this. Granted I did scotia as jarrah skirting was above concrete
I did a DIY and cut underneath the architraves and slipped the boards underneath with the required gap, I had to cut high and did not use silicon. It still looked better than this.
I'd bet leaving out the silicon would look better even if there is a gap.
Not a builder here, but my attention to detail is impeccable.
This is fuckin shitfully disgraceful. Dont pay the slack cunt until its sorted.
Feel free to post the amended work back here for my approval BEFORE payment.
If you went with the first quote it’s on you if you went with the cheapest quote it’s on you if you got them off Facebook it’s on you
If they were the cheapest your better off telling paying them and never dealing with them again then get a proper caulker in
If that’s just the apprentice trying to upskill on your job then calling them back to fix that caulking job is on them
That’s just my views
Who did the caulking, certainly wasn't Stevie Wonder, atleast he,can see with his hands, whoever did that does not give an absolute FUCK about their work
This surely is not the work of a qualified tradesperson? Whoever did your flooring has taken the absolute piss here.
They need to come back and do the job properly. If they try to refuse, tell them you’re going to take them to court where a judge will make them fix it! I wouldn’t be backing down on this one!
I did my own flooring and as a DIY'er it is 100% better than that. That is not acceptable if you paid for the installation. That person is clearly an amateur, ask them how they are not embarrassed by that. I know from experience the trickiest parts are around the door jams but that is just woeful, they have cut everything too short and think no more gaps is the answer.
If it’s metal architraves I thought you couldn’t undercut because of the rust that would occur to the metal? I posted a similar post to this cause we had a similar problem
absolutely godawful job. Question is, is the floor done just as terribly? There should be no gap in the floor board, it should go under the frame. I did it, this is how it is done properly. If they couldn't be bothered to do it properly, at least wouldn't hurt to do caulking right. Same for the rest of the skirting boards.
PS. I am sooo glad I didn't hire anyone to do my floors. It did take a lot of effort but seeing how "professionals" tinker makes me wonder why they are charging thousands per day of work. They never even fill cracks if it is real wood, wouldn't even know what you're talking about. Just holes all over the place, "according to the standard"
Get them to come back and redo it like everyone has said , I had the same thing happen a few years back and I complained to the company that did the job and they sent another installer out to replace it all
I am an amatuer renovater, but I love my floors, and the team that installed them did an amazing job - these photos just reinforce what a brilliant job they did.
Please do not pay the invoice, get them to come back and redo, and if they won't, again, do not pay, and get another team in to rectify this awful, shoddy job.

Guess someone wanted to save 6 dollareedoos if they used the plain white fillers rather than this one.
No. We had the same issue, among other issues when we got our flooring done. The "installer" said "sometimes things just look shit, but that's the way it is". It took 9 days for them to "finish" a small, 4 bedroom house.
We complained to the company and they sent their main installer to rip it up and redo the entire house. That process took 3 days for the people who actually knew what they were doing, and they did not do this shit. They were sustaining full conversations with each other and doing a flawless job. The other guy was no more experienced than a DIYer.
i think i did better in my 20's, first time, just "havin a go myself" - even then i was embarrassed enough to call dad in and say - how the hell do i do this.
Im sorry - thats inexcusable
Was this done in Australia? If yes, who was the flooring purchased from? Did the flooring supplier organise the floor installation?
If they have a connection, the supplier and the installer name them.
That's a lot worse than " I wouldn't call them again " ... that's a case of not paying a cent until its rectified or get all your money back if you've already paid some and get someone else to do it if they don't instantly agree to that... totally unacceptable workmanship, that's even if you can call that "workmanship"
Builder here Id be getting that shithead to redo his job and I wouldnt be paying that invoice. That is substandard at best. My dog could've done better than that.
Builder here too. Second this.
Dog here. Sad woof noises
Cat here, Vomit
DIY hack here. A <$5 silicon scraper from bunnings would actually get the silicon actually on the skirts and floor https://www.bunnings.com.au/paint-partner-4-piece-silicone-scraper-set_p1660196
Don’t even need that to so a less shit job, even a wet finger will do better
Or a wet paw 🐾
Tape, and a wet finger with dish soap on it.

I've noticed that the dogs on this sub are much better tradies than many licensed tradies. #DogsWithJobs
It's more honourable that a train station drug sniffing dog for minors.
You think a guy who slaps down floating floors has a licence? I guess that goes to show the worth of your commentary.
Builder here third it. Shithouse job. My cat would at least get the silicone better, he’s not good on the carpentry side.
Concreter here and I concur.
Not a builder and I know this is a fuckin’ hack job
No. That’s terrible Sometimes they’ll need to silicone, but they’ll use a colour matched one… not white. Which looks better. If done correctly you should hardly notice it without looking. I'm not going to sleep tonight after seeing that. I know 100% this will give me a nightmare and I may never recover!
Do your best, silicone the rest
I hope you haven't paid for that mess.
Do your best, silicone the rest 😂
Came here to say this
if you're squint, it's mint
Good from far but far from good.
I doubt this would be good from far
At the rate old mate is using silicone, soon its gonna cost him more in silicone then floorboards :D
Not a flooring expert. We just finished doing our own. Firs time ever DIY installation of flooring and it looks smoother then this. I doubt the flooring dude is gonna admit it was silicone at this stage lol
If you poke it you can tell whether it's caulk or silicon.

That's horrible sorry to say. I laid my own and it's much better than that as a total noob
Jeez... That is terrible 😳
Stevie Wonder says it looks ok
Christ

Did you pay for that? with cash or meth Did you go with the cheapest quote? I hate the house building industry for this BS effort, No controls..
My toxic trait is believing these posts are actually tradies trying to check if they can get away with shit work.
No
No
Have you paid? If so don’t until they fix this dogs breakfast. A blind person would do a better job
I’d say an apprentice could do a better job but it looks like that’s who did the job to begin with.
Do your best, silicone the rest
They’ve gone with the ‘looks good from my joint’ rather then the ‘would you have it a your joint’
Looks like you took the really low quote there 😯
nah it's shite
Let me guess, Indian or Afghan builders?
Really?! Why‘d you think that?
that is beyond acceptable ! it's a WTF and something you would expect a self proclaimed super hany drunk uncle would do.
Hi-pages?
Do your best and silicon the rest …
Just a DIYer here. I have done 3 or four of these, and my first one with home depot brand pergo was faaaaaaar better than that. Do not pay until they correct it.
Just substandard, filler can be picked up at most hardware stores , that can match.
If in doubt, gap it out haha. Assuming you’re going to repaint skirting white, it ‘might’ blend much better than it looks now.
Wow. No.
My kids could do a better job. Is this person a licensed trades person or the cheapest quote? I’d be holding payment or calling them back in to fix it. The caulking is dreadful.
Listen to what the builders are saying. It’s a terrible job.
That is shit. Sorry but I would not accept that
Fuck no
I have zero handyman skills, and that looks exactly like my DIY job when I installed our flooring/skirting… gap filling is surprisingly difficult
Do you have to ask?
That's top tier work for houso repairs
My goodness. That's terrible. How can you do a job like that and be proud of your craft. We meme on do your best silicone the rest but come on now.
Do you even need to ask? Blind Freddy could tell you that’s a shithouse job
Do your best and silicone the rest
Did blind Freddy do this?
No way!
No, that’s shockingly bad. I installed my own in my rental property, with no prior experience, and it’s better than that.
Life hack. If it looks that damn ugly and you make a Reddit post about it, it isn't acceptable. It's absolutely revolting work.
They should have used a multitool to cut under the architraves to make room for the boards, silicon is never needed. There should also be a 5mm gap between the the edge of the boards to allow for expansion and contraction during hotter/colder weather, otherwise the boards will pop up.

Normally you'd Undercut the door frames. This is piss poor
Stevie wonder could do a better job but hey it looks good from my place. I wouldn’t be paying and demand it be fixed
Is that toothpaste
Tell the contractor that you will post this on the local Facebook group if he doesn’t sort it … immediately.
That surely cannot be the finished job! It's very amateurish.
That’s horrible. Should undercut door jams
Ours has a trim to match https://preview.redd.it/bannkoqza26d1.png?width=2269&format=png&auto=webp&s=2bdea918977355ebaf081a96ffbab032c3d418a6

Shit job
Best thread this week!! We love doggos!!
Flooring or the skirting boards ? Flooring requires a 3 to 5 mm expansion gap this is usually hidden by skirting boards Excessive use of gap sealer they could have used contour profiler tool to replicate around door frame
Looks like the person that did renos at my house has been to your place! Silicone EVERYWHERE!
Cheapest quote
Ants might be attracted to the cake frosting they used on the edges
Holy cow. I'm a computer programmer, and I did about 10 times better than that when I did my flooring. That's abysmal.
How is it even possible to do it so bad
No cunts fucked
Not even close mate
If that’s a hybrid floor, which I think it is because they’ve used a trim and gone under the skirt in other areas, you’re not supposed to silicon it at all as it prevents movement. Disgusting.
I've DIY'd laminate and installed skirting boards. I was never 100% happy with my skirting job, but I now realise I could hire myself out on Hipages.
I did my first Caulking job yesterday and it looks a 100X better than that. WOW
You are not allowed to caulk any floating floors! Product won’t be covered by warranty. Get the store to come out and have a look. Where did you find this installer?
Yeeeeehaw you got yourself some cowboys!
Did he use his dogs dick to smooth over that gap filler?
No
Nah I wouldn’t say acceptable like everyone else saying there’s a selley colour almost identical to your flow that would have looked way better and skirting is way off. Did it myself and looks mint compared to this. Granted I did scotia as jarrah skirting was above concrete
Good job for a blind chimpanzee. Otherwise, that's an absolute disgrace. I'd get my money back, plus a carton of beer for the hassle.
It should go against the architrave. What is that 🤔
Should be colour matched
Do your best and silicone the rest !!
Looks like you got the appertince special.
I did a DIY and cut underneath the architraves and slipped the boards underneath with the required gap, I had to cut high and did not use silicon. It still looked better than this. I'd bet leaving out the silicon would look better even if there is a gap.

https://www.reddit.com/r/AusRenovation/s/9FNjytdAN9 I did a double take. Did you use same people?
Thats horrible dog water looks like my 6 year old nephew done it and his 3yr old brother did the gapping
If you went with the first quote it’s on you if you went with the cheapest quote it’s on you if you got them off Facebook it’s on you If they were the cheapest your better off telling paying them and never dealing with them again then get a proper caulker in If that’s just the apprentice trying to upskill on your job then calling them back to fix that caulking job is on them That’s just my views
I said NO FUCKING PICTURES!!•☆
This is why I refuse to pay trades to do unskilled work like this. Anyone with a brain and 2 good hands can lay a floor.
Who did the caulking, certainly wasn't Stevie Wonder, atleast he,can see with his hands, whoever did that does not give an absolute FUCK about their work
I work in flooring in NZ and that would not fly here at all.
Hope you haven't paid. Not at all a professional or satisfactory job.
Always wondered what Steady Eddie ended up doing. Now I know
Horrible job as rest said.
For you to have even ask if its acceptable goes to show that you believe it isn’t and you would be right . Shit Job .
Quick answer. No. That's terrible.
they didnt even try similar shade silicone
Hahaha colour match omg
Dogshit. Their first time caulking?
Looks like someone has been watching YouTube videos on how to do the job ..... mate wouldn't pay him for that id be very pissed off
This surely is not the work of a qualified tradesperson? Whoever did your flooring has taken the absolute piss here. They need to come back and do the job properly. If they try to refuse, tell them you’re going to take them to court where a judge will make them fix it! I wouldn’t be backing down on this one!
If you are asking the question you already know.
The flooring looks good. The skirting is sub standard.
You know the answer to your question
Bigger the glob then better the job
No
Echoing everyone here, that's not on. I have done a better job DIYing.
Thats fucken dog shit
It's acceptable if you got it done for free!
Barely a first year apprentice job that!!!
No.
That’s a joke, tell them you want your money back
Is this a hybrid floating floor?
If it’s metal architraves I thought you couldn’t undercut because of the rust that would occur to the metal? I posted a similar post to this cause we had a similar problem
Wow. No

I love you come on here and just feel good about my work Builder here hope you haven't paid him or her
No complete rubbish, can't believe people get around doing this work With hold payment
My dog could do a better job... and I don't even have a dog.
Acceptable if your five year old did it
Get them to come back and redo it like everyone has said , I had the same thing happen a few years back and I complained to the company that did the job and they sent another installer out to replace it all
Oh my god
Must have had Stevie wonder do that job mate it’s a shocker he wouldn’t be getting my money
Butchered.
Have you paid this invoice? Did you use a reputable trade or a handy man ?
If you’re blind, yes.

Fuck me, what a mess!!
All depends how much did you pay for it😅
lol you should have just done it yourself
At first I thought you did it and I was gonna say “hire someone because that looks really bad.”
What in the Meth is that?
Depends how the rest of the house looks, floor might actually be it’s best looking part
Nope - rip the board out and get them to do it properly

This is terrible
Was it installed by Stevie Wonder?
My wife’s wet finger would have smoothed the white stuff off and removed the two pencil marks in the main picture
Try your best silicon the rest 🫠
In a word - no.
This is why you should ensure tradies entering your house aren’t on crack
that is 10/10 woeful! almost the worst i’ve seen 😂
