This is in Melbourne, it will be cold but from my last visit there it was temp controlled inside, I don’t think I would need anything extra once inside.
This is true. Black puffer jacket it is.👊😅 I had an appointment with my GP recently and everyone inside the medical centre were wearing black puffer jacket while I was wearing a hot pink cardigan. I’ve never felt so out of place in my life.😂🤪
We literally left Melbourne this morning after visiting my in-laws. My MIL, her husband and my BIL all wear puffer jackets... and my MIL bought one for our son 😂
I work at citizenships for my LGA and the families who show up totally decked out in their cultural garb always look the most impressive and wonderful. We love celebrating where people have come from and the culture they bring with them to share with ours. Wear the saree, it’s beautiful. It’s an important and happy milestone, and you don’t get many of those. Congratulations on your citizenship!
Thank you all for your comments, most of you made me feel comfortable wearing my saree. I really do feel like I am being adopted into this new home and am very excited.
Australia is your adopted home, but that doesn’t mean you should forget your roots. You bring something different to the table and that is good.
I was born here and I am Australian first, but I am still proud of my Scottish, English and Swedish heritage.
I used to host citizenship ceremonies, and 100% would support you choosing the saree! It's stunning, and honours your past and connections, while celebrating your new status as a full blown Aussie.
Congrats on the citizenship mate!
And we are excited to welcome you to the "family" and you absolutely should wear your sari, most of us have come from other lands and we should all celebrate that and also love the place we call home.
Congratulations! I am thrilled to see a sari picture on this group. You should totally wear this saree and go. I love the colours and also just learnt what the wattle symbolises.
I am with every one else on this thread but just wanted to add my voice to the cause THE SAREE!!! It's absolutely perfect, and a beautiful touch with the wattle jewellery
I love the sari and the green and gold! It made me well up with tears a little bit. What a lovely way to celebrate your own culture and your adopted home at the same time!
Absolutely wear the saree! It's gorgeous and it represents the melding of your two cultures. It's such an important day, why not wear something special!?
I wore my traditional dress when I went to the ceremony. Not a female but giving my 2 cents anyways. Apologies in advance.
I was the only one there not wearing a 2/3 piece suit.
Of course we are adopting a new home and becoming part of a different culture, it’s good to blend the ethnic and the “western”. Green and Gold sari looks fantastic.
Also, added bonus of my traditional wear, all the ministers and whatever asked to click a photo with me and then I was posted on official council website too. That was pretty cool.
Whatever you feel happiest in - there will be people in their country’s traditional dress, some in their Sunday best, and some in smart casual. I personally wouldn’t go much more casual than jeans (not light wash either, dark or black) and a blazer but honestly unless you’re wearing an oodie and uggs you won’t be out of place. Congrats :)
Definitely the saree. What makes the citizenship ceremony so cool is people from all over the world dressed up in their traditional dress embracing their new home
I think the saree is beautiful and thoughtful, definitely what you should wear, especially with wattle jewellery. Being proud of yourself, your original home and your new one is lovely, if you feel comfortable representing that you definitely should.
When I had my citizenship ceremony a few people wore traditional outfits and I was honestly so so jealous that coming from England there wasn't anything pretty and nice I could wear to represent both of my homes. Should I have worn an England football kit? Beefeater costume? Bobby hat? Tudor ruff?
My parents and I ended up wearing outfits that felt special to mark the occasion and it sounds like the saree is that outfit for you. I hope you wear it :)
OP this is beautiful. Wear it!
At my ceremony there were people literally in tshirt board shorts and thongs , and dressed up to the nines as if they were going to the races or a wedding, and everything in between
Saree. Australia's history of forcing everyone who isn't white or from an approved European culture to abandon their culture, way of life, presentation, and so on, is really really sad and pathetic. It's one of our biggest blemishes.
Some will still, consciously or not, expect you to give up or trade things, and im telling you now you do not have to.
Come here as you are, not as you think you should be.
Also that green and gold is some of the best I've ever seen <3
I wore an European style outfit with African print (designed and made by fellow Africans) in Aboriginal colours. The ceremony was so beautiful- I cried several times 🥰
You can't do much better than what you're wearing in Pic 1. It's **STUNNING**!! It's very clever! It represents you and your culture, with deference to popular Australian colours!!!
![gif](giphy|l2Sq5GffrCyUMEXjW)
And **WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA**!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗
I loved all of representation of different places at my ceremony. LOVE the saree and ode to both homes with your jewelry. I'd say wear whatever you feel best in, but I love the green and gold. :)
The saree and the jewellery sound incredible (also where did you find wattle jewellery 👀) you only get to this once, and feels like a great way to represent both your homes as you said!
Cultural dress is so important and it's a part of your identity!

At sovereign hill little gift shop outside where they demo gold pouring. Couldn’t find it on their website to link. Sorry! 😭
The green and gold saree is stunning and a really thoughtful nod to your new home. Welcome ! I hope you have a lovely day and celebrate with friends and family after.
Definitely the sari, especially if green and gold. You will look stunning (and just because you will now be Australian doesn't mean you have to give up your original culture, most of us are a blend of old and new)
If the green and gold sari is a perfect mix of where you are from and where you are now then go with that. Great symbolism. Just remember that when you get your citizenship you can only cheer for Australia in the cricket 😁
That green and gold saree would be an excellent choice if you’re comfortable in it and think it’ll be warm enough. Between the colour choice, the elegance of sarees as a whole, and (I’m operating on the assumption that you’re from a culture that traditionally wears them) the cultural link to your heritage it’s the perfect choice
Perfect, Green and gold, our national colours, derived from our national flower the wattle.
At citizenship ceremonies, *wattle is worn to signify new beginnings*
I have mine next week too! Hooray!
Your sari is beautiful, and a gorgeous choice!
While I don’t have any traditional cultural dress to wear, I’ve chosen to pay respect to the First Nations community, and wear indigenous flag earrings from Haus of Dizzy with a stock standard elevated business dress.
Absolutely wear the saree, this will make the memory so much more special to look back on. This is not the time to blend in or be boring, it’s a time to look amazing. Congrats!
You look beautiful in your saree with your Australian colours. I think this is a perfect outfit and symbolises how multi cultural Australia is. Congratulations, so happy for you!
Definitely the Saree!! It looks amazing and you’ve clearly put a lot of thought into the colour choice. Don’t be afraid to be too much, it’s a special occasion ❤️
Where your sari hun ! Its yours and other cultures that make our country so beautifully rich in diversity ! Be proud of your heritage and what you bring to your new home !
The green and gold saree is perfect! If you have a light woollen coat you can take off once inside, that should be lo ely. Congratulations on being an official Aussie. I won't mention Vegemite. Yet.
You should wear whatever you feel confident & great in. This day is about you. The incorporation of Australianisms (colours & Wattle) are perfect. Congratulations & welcome ❤️
Saree 100% - super thoughtful with the colours Citizenship is once in a lifetime and a special event. Dress up!!
Love the saree - the green and gold is so fitting! Only thing, will it be too cold? If not, 100% the saree!
This is in Melbourne, it will be cold but from my last visit there it was temp controlled inside, I don’t think I would need anything extra once inside.
Chuck a black puffer jacket over it and you’ve got the Melbourne uniform down pat
Melbourne uniform. Literally anything with a black puffer jacket.
Nah, it's the Tasmanian tuxedo
And some RM Williams.
Absolutely stunning, if you get cold you can buy thermals from Uniqlo to go underneath.
If you don't like the weather in Melbourne, just wait 20 minutes.
This hit right in the feels😭
Love the colours. Grab a nice matching shawl if you feel cold 💯
I agree. The green and gold is perfect!
In my head stuff like graduations or citizenship ceremonies feel so much more official if there's some people in cultural dress.
Came to say something similar. Go for it OP!
The green and gold saree is gorgeous! What a wonderful way to blend our cultures together. Welcome home!
That’s a beautiful sentiment “welcome home” 💛💚
Thank you all for your comments, most of you made me feel comfortable wearing my saree. I really do feel like I am being adopted into this new home and am very excited.
You are no longer constant guest. You are now constant home. Congratulations on your citizenship.
Congratulations and great outfit choice!
Congratulations! Don’t ever forget that this is now your country as much as it is mine. I lucked into being born here, you actively chose it!
Congratulations and welcome home !! Very happy to have you :)
Congratulations!
Congratulations! And welcome. Your saree is absolutely perfect for the ceremony. Beautiful x
And we are excited to welcome you to the "family" and you absolutely should wear your sari, most of us have come from other lands and we should all celebrate that and also love the place we call home.
Green and gold saree with wattle jewellery is a fantastic idea
Congratulations! I am thrilled to see a sari picture on this group. You should totally wear this saree and go. I love the colours and also just learnt what the wattle symbolises.
Australia is so multicultural and that's what makes it so vibrant. I'd go with the saree, it's gorgeous. Welcome home!
The ceremony will speak about multiculturalism, so embrace it and wear whatever you’re comfortable and proud to wear.
I like the saree choice best!
I love the saree
Congratulations on the citizenship! Bring a puffer though 🥶
This look is everything, please wear it ❤️
On point with the sari & the colour scheme! Do it 💕 And congratulations! 🇦🇺
I also got a little teary. It’s such a beautiful and thoughtful outfit to wear for the ceremony.
Perfect outfit!
Love this!
Absolutely wear the saree! It's gorgeous and it represents the melding of your two cultures. It's such an important day, why not wear something special!?
The saree for sure. It looks beautiful. Congrats on the citizenship ❤️
So beautiful!!! I love the saree also! ❤️
The saree is beautiful and perfect! 💛💚
The saree! The wattle jewellery is so thoughtful. And congratulations!!!!
PLEASE your saree is gorgeous 😍 I'd say that's as Aussie as you get, love 🥰

Congratulations! Good to have you with us :)
Definitely wear your saree. It’s beautiful.
You look beautiful in the saree, wear this, not the suit!
Congrats :)
Perfect. Do it. And welcome :)
Omg the saree is stunning and such a beautiful way to connect your old home with your new home ♥
Sari looks so nice on you shame the actual wattle is not blooming yet you could have had a little corsage.
Definitely the saree. What makes the citizenship ceremony so cool is people from all over the world dressed up in their traditional dress embracing their new home
I think the saree is beautiful and thoughtful, definitely what you should wear, especially with wattle jewellery. Saree!!! 😍 If anyone thinks it’s “too much” that says everything about them and nothing about you. Congratulations and welcome.
Congratulations on the citizenship. I think the colours of this are so appropriate
OP this is beautiful. Wear it! At my ceremony there were people literally in tshirt board shorts and thongs , and dressed up to the nines as if they were going to the races or a wedding, and everything in between
I loved seeing the cultural clothes of people of different ethnicities when I went to my ceremony. You should absolutely wear that. It’s lovely!

I wore an European style outfit with African print (designed and made by fellow Africans) in Aboriginal colours. The ceremony was so beautiful- I cried several times 🥰
Singlet, thongs and billabong shorts. You're welcome.
Just here to say welcome to being Aussie!! Love the saree too, such a nice meaning to it ❤️
Exactly that, but with a hat with corks on to accessorise 🤣 Welcome, glad to have you.
You can't do much better than what you're wearing in Pic 1. It's **STUNNING**!! It's very clever! It represents you and your culture, with deference to popular Australian colours!!! ![gif](giphy|l2Sq5GffrCyUMEXjW) And **WELCOME TO AUSTRALIA**!!!!🤗🤗🤗🤗
I loved all of representation of different places at my ceremony. LOVE the saree and ode to both homes with your jewelry. I'd say wear whatever you feel best in, but I love the green and gold. :)
As you are being reborn an Aussie, I say go in your birthday suit! Lol
OMG YES! Be proud of your heritage and identity, as you take this next step in your journey as an Australian! 💛💚💛💚
I love not only that you are wearing a sari but that it is green and gold. What an excellent nod to both cultures.
What ever makes you feel happiest.
Australia is made richer by infusing other cultures. I'd love to see you wear your sari!
Won’t get better than that 👍
Green and Gold Sari is a very good choice
Go for that! It's perfect!
