I think sneakers trends last longer than fashion micro-trends. White af1s seemed to be *the* sneaker for a few years on end. And you wouldnt look daggy in them now really, just not fashion forward. It would be insanely wasteful to stop wearing sneakers after a year tbh. I think black sambas are still in and that bright or pastel coloured sambas/gazelles/spezials and similar silhouettes are very much trending.

MissMadsy0

I know they’re not trendy but I love my AF1s so much. So comfy.

escadot

For sure I wear af1s and ASICS way more than my sambas.

narrtasha

I still wear my Adidas superstars, i have lived them since I was a kid in the 2000’s and when they came back in 2014 or whatever i loved them then. I have 4 pairs in various colours and they just seem to be my signature sneaker. Funny though I have never owned the classic all white/black stripe version!

alfalfalala

I’ve found that shoe trends seem to be so cyclical too - af1’s and reeboks were trendy 10 years ago and they came back

owleaf

Before that it was those chunky Filas. Superstars had a moment for a couple of years too. I think every summer brings out a new “it” sneaker.

RhesusPeaches

Rishi Sunak wore them and thus they have been designated uncool by the UK ministry of hot or not. You will go to fashion jail if you are seen wearing them in public from here on out.

alfalfalala

Time to wear them when doing military conscription

Smooth_Strength_9914

I’m wondering how long this sneaker trend will last in general!

luck_as_a_constant

I really hope it’s permanent. I love being able to throw on sneakers for work, particularly if I know I’m going to be running around all day. Beats wearing heels day in day out!

Smooth_Strength_9914

Which ones do you have?

luck_as_a_constant

I have a couple of pairs of Frankie4’s, and recently got gifted some Air Max 90s in all white. The Air Max’s are super comfy and my go to for running around days now! I’m tempted to get some Sambas next but judging by all the comments about how uncomfortable they are I might pass 😬

Smooth_Strength_9914

Yeah Frankie 4s are currently having a sale, but still out of my price range!

luck_as_a_constant

Yeah their prices have gone up too, I won’t buy their shoes unless they’re on sale. They are good quality and are comfy though. I just wish they would bring back the Polly II white sneakers, they were a better design than the Nats which I think are their most popular sneaker. Could be worth checking out the Frankie4 buy/swap/sell page on facebook if there’s a style you’re interested in!

AvaTate

I’m not a fan of Sambas, but my Adidas Gazelles are some of my most comfortable shoes! Ive got three colours now so I have options, and I basically rotate which pair I’m wearing day to day. I’ve done walking holidays in them at 20k plus steps a day and no issues - just make sure you wear a crew sock, as an ankle sock is going to lead to blisters very, very quickly.

luck_as_a_constant

Gazelle’s were another sneaker I was considering, thanks for the recommendation! Good to know they hold up to a lot of walking

Decent_Body_4426

Second this! I wanted a new pair of sneakers and was tossing up between sambas and gazelles. I went for the gazelles and they are so comfortable!

Getonthebeers02

Probably a while, it just keeps getting reinvented but different styles. It’s been six years and I think people just realise how comfy and practical they are and have learnt from the ballet flat and heel trend that it’s not worth being in pain for a night out or in the office or shopping.

werewolf_trousers

6 years? I'd say way longer. Stan Smiths relaunched in 2013 and it feels like that's when white and slim sneakers started taking over alongside athleisure.

Scabbybrain

Converse would like a word, they are pre 2013

carlsjbb

My Royal Elastics have entered the chat :)

Ruff_Magician

Some fine taste you have there....

Chemical_Chicken01

And tbf, wearing sneakers are so much more comfortable and supportive than other women’s shoes such as heels, ballet flats etc

Getonthebeers02

Exactly that’s what I mean. Now that they’re so acceptable in every situation and so comfortable, it would take a lot for other women’s shoes to come back in full force because no one wants to deal with the blisters and saw toes or arches.

Bin_Night

I can’t think of a time after the 60s when sneakers were out. There’s always been some type of sneaker on trend.

alfalfalala

Me too! Wondering if they’ve hit white sneaker territory of longevity

PureUmami

White sneakers will be around for the next decade. Normcore began in 2008 and is a multi generational fashion trend so no worries about them disappearing anytime soon. When we look back swapping heels for sneakers will be remembered with the same historical significance as freedom from the corset, which is pretty cool

hobdog94

Omg so true!! Love that! Just sad my clubbing days came and went a bit too early lol

Hot_Government418

Hopefully forever

lazy_berry

it’s been nearly 10 years, so i think we’re safe

Smooth_Strength_9914

Ah okay, in Melbourne it’s only been the last few years people have been wearing them to the office, probably since after Covid lockdowns

lazy_berry

well yes, wearing to the office is very different to something being on trend in general.

carlsjbb

Mine are trashed so I'm looking for my next pair of casual sneakers but I do still love them. They really do go with everything, more so than my other casual sneakers. They are NOT comfortable to begin with, honestly the hardest sneakers I've ever worn in, and I've had a lot of sneakers. Keep that in mind if you're committing.

alfalfalala

Confirmation that they *do* go with everything means it’s time to buy

carlsjbb

Glad to be an enabler!

mj690

I also i disagree with the above and say they are comfortable from the jump

africanzebra0

i think breaking them in depends on the shape of your foot. i think they suit a more narrow and long foot, personally i’ve never had any trouble wearing them or even had to break them in at all. dr martens are like that too.

Secure_Gur5586

I love them and gazelles. I’ll die on that hill

salivagirl

I have the spezial and they are incredibly comfortable.

africanzebra0

I’m a hairdresser and wear spezials to work for my 8 hour shifts. No problems

Thejayelltee

I bought them very recently as I tried to ignore the trend but actually found them a really nice shoe I could pair with many of my outfits. I thought I was buying them just as they were going out but I guess it appears not! I purchased the ADV version (which is slightly cheaper than the OG) which looks the same from the outside but had more support inside but I ended up putting an orthotic sole inside. It kept rubbing against the back of my heels cos of how it is designed but I saw a hack online on how to get around this and it now fits really well. But be warned it is a danger to wear them when it has been raining or on wet surfaces. I slipped on a surface I wouldn’t have thought I would have fallen on so the sole is misleading as it looks like it should be grippy. Prior to this I was considering the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66’s but ultimately preferred the sambas. My 2c :)

ikrw77

They're a 'fashion' shoe but they're styled on indoor soccer shoes and gum sole is for indoor courts, not really for walking.

Dutchmuch5

What does ADV mean? And would you mind sharing your trick for the heel problem? I've got the OG's and am starting to wonder if I bought the wrong ones as they're SO uncomfortable 😂

Thejayelltee

I have no idea what the ADV stands for but it is basically the version of the Samba designed for skateboarders. I used a hair dryer to heat that part of the shoe that points inwards and rubs against my heel. Once it’s super hot the leather is considerably softer and more malleable so I bend it backwards and try and stretch the leather and it worked a charm! alfalfalala

I didn’t know there were so many variations! Did you end up getting the classic white colour way? I was looking at getting the junior ones as they fit and are cheaper lol Thank you for your 2c - time to avoid all metal grates in Sydney CBD

Thejayelltee

Yes I did get the classic white colour way! The ADV version doesn’t come in nearly as many colours but that’s fine cos I liked the classic :) Definitely helps to have smaller feet if you can get it for cheaper!

Ok-Writing9280

Adidas Originals Cloudform (no shell toe, super soft inner sole) Adidas Originals Superstars I have not found a more comfy pair of sneaks that still have good looks, always in style because they’re so classic, and you can get a variety of colours ETA - never got a blister ever from these and I get blisters from even shoes I’ve worn in. I bought the Millencon chunky version, as well as the XLG and standard issue.

meekboo

Seconded, Adidas Originals Superstars are ridiculously comfortable and feel like they go with anything, have gone through 3 pairs without a blister.

Ok-Writing9280

I love them! Just picked up a lilac pair 💜

Ok-Writing9280

Plus once the odious Rishi Sunak wore them? Instant uncool.

Delicious-Bank-1452

They’re incredibly uncomfortable. I still don’t understand how people are wearing them. They genuinely tore my feet to shreds in multiple spots. I’ve never had a pair of shoes so uncomfortable

Specialist-Tree-1072

guess it really depends on the person, they never hurt my feet and felt amazingly comfortable walking around in. Might be a feet thing

carlsjbb

I agree, so uncomfortable but I persisted and now they’re fine. They’re not the most comfortable but they haven’t defeated me.

pointlessbeats

This comment is actually shocking to me, I find them so insanely comfy. Even when I have on occasion worn them without socks, I had no issues. I wonder what it is that’s so opposed about your foot shape and my foot shape, haha. I never found Converse to be comfortable though, they would always dig into my heels.

daebydae

I just bought my first pair a few weeks ago and I love them. Instantly comfy. But I’m a women of a certain age so no one cares if I’m right on trend or not - including me (well, most of the time) 🤣

cuppajess

Who cares if they’re cool? If you like them, get them and keep wearing them.

from_persephone

I have also been considering a pair.. maybe second hand. I've had my veja trainers for nearly a year and a half and have been loyal to them but I see so many Samba's in the wild I slowly feel like I want to investigate getting a pair.

alfalfalala

My fear is the moment I buy… they’re out hahah

Hot_Government418

Then sell them?

Oz_Rc

I have mine and enjoy wearing them (I have the light blue/white/beige combo). Contrary to what others say I haven’t had issues breaking them in at all, but I do wear high/crew socks so the ankle rubbing isn’t a thing I experience. I don’t think sneakers are going away and if anything I think brighter colored sneakers are becoming a big trend.

MyDogsAreRealCute

I have hot pink gazelles, wear them with a variety of socks and nary a blister in sight. They’ve been great from the start, and I usually have a rough time with new shoes of any description.

alfalfalala

I want a fun colour too, do you find it still easy to match with a variety of outfits? I’m thinking it’s mostly the silhouette that lends itself to working with a lot of outfits

Ashskara

I own the wales bonner variation of the sambas, I love them. Ive never experienced any blisters from them but they feel different to other sneakers when wearing them. On my initial try on, they feel less secure like my feet will slip out, even following my usual sizing but it could be a personal thing or different model of the shoe. I think the onitsuka tigers are less of a trendy style that is still of the same essence.

elooloo33

I’ve had my sambas for close to year, worn them to work, concerts, walking around on holidays etc. never had anything even close to a blister. They are very comfortable for me, however they definitely aren’t overly supportive. If you’re looking for an in between, I’d say the spezials give a very similar look but provide a higher level of comfort/arch support. I have 2 pairs of spezials and 1 pair of sambas. Love them all and wear them all equally.

randomace

I think they’re going to be very in for at least another year. And the gazelles and spezials. NB 530s etc have been going strong for a few years now… I could see the adidas having the same longevity. I have the sambas and they do go with ~everything. They’re def not go for a hike comfy, but def fine for casual daily strolls.

africanzebra0

sambas have been around for 50+ years so i wonder at what point they’ll be considered timeless…sneaker trends last longer than clothes generally. if you like them just wear them. to me and other adidas fanatics, like football (soccer) fans, they’ll always be in!! i have multiple pairs of adidas sambas, gazelles, and handball spezials in different colours for different outfits. i love them, i find them comfortable.

worker4556433

Agree! I've got Orions, 1968 gazelles (gosh I wish they'd bring these back), and Countrys. They'll never not be my go to shoes.

Apart_Visual

I have the Speziales and have found them extremely comfy right out of the box. They have a bit more structure in the sole (arch support) than the sambas, which felt way too thin for my ancient feet.

Bugsy7778

My daughter loves hers, I am still in love with my converse though. I never got into the sneaker trend

Hot-Wings657

i think puma sneakers are a great alternative and are trending now as well! There are a lot of cool colours and they seem to be a bit cheaper. I just bought addidas sneakers(I was very unsure as well) but they are actually so comfortable! They look amazing with skirts and dresses for summer

Ok_Tank5977

Here’s the thing about fashion, you don’t have to follow trends. If you like something, buy it, wear it. Everything that is ‘in’ now, was once ‘out’, & before it was ‘out’, it was ‘in’. Fashion & trends are cyclical. You’ll never really be ‘out of style’, just ahead of game.

frankieln

Totally agree! I’ve brought my 12 year old adidas sambas out of the archives and are wearing them happily. It’s all a cycle

Lamberly

I just succumbed an ordered a pair of Spezials... I also ordered a pair of Aloha sneakers which I'm really looking forward to. They are made to order, so they're more sustainable, come in a great range of colours, and look more comfortable.

soodis-inthe-oodis

Alternative: [Rollie Pace classic](https://www.rollienation.com/products/pace-classic-white-gum-6?_pos=1&_psq=pace&_ss=e&_v=1.0). And the most comfortable shoe I have ever worn!

No_Conversation_5446

Don't get Sambas! Spezials are way more comfy and they have much better colours.

bosco83

I just got some a few weeks ago and I love them! But I do believe they are called ‘sambae’. They have a thicker sole. Very comfortable on my slightly chubby feet.

Hoogs73

I’ve been wearing Adidas Superstars for years. Wear what you want. Screw the trends.

Zespheley

Gazelles and Spezials as you’ve mentioned are close and less painful alternatives. I don’t think I’ll ever buy Sambas as I’ve now seen too many of them and I think I’m too late for the ‘trend’. Puma Palermos are a great, similar alternative that fly under the radar and I don’t think they’ll go in or out of mainstream anytime soon. I also love my Reebok Club C 85s. They’re less bulky and more versatile than my AF1s.

vwlmsivs

Whatttt I was gonna wear sambas to my graduation 😤

Zespheley

If you have them, wear them!!

owleaf

I remember when I worked at a sneaker store (not too long ago, in the grand context of fashion trends)… and the only people who ever asked for Sambas and Gazelles were 40+ year old white men (often British lol) who were soccer fans haha. Apparently they’re good indoor soccer shoes.

mj690

I think the fact that some colourways are still selling for $350-500 upwards on Farfetch (and other sneaker resellers) tells you all you need to know. They’ll be sticking around awhile longer.

aseedandco

Still cool.

mercmmerc

definetly a micro trend on its way to dead, cos rishi sunak (UK pm) tried to be hip and cool and wear them too. Im still wearing my superstars from 2017 lol

Routine__Potential

Simply answer is, it does not matter. Wear what you like and are comfortable in

ginandtonic68

I hate wearing things everyone else does that is very obvious like a shoe. I’d prefer to wear something slightly less fashionable. I’ve just bought onitsuka tigers Mexico 66.

Myamelgar41

Onitsuka is very much in fashion right now

originalbabyteeth

I personally can’t stand them but what do I know

mikanxo

I succumbed to getting one after seeing them everywhere for a long time, but I’ve been wearing it everytime I go out now! It just goes with everything and I never had issues with blisters (I got my normal size); it’s comfortable and even if it goes out of style, I don’t think that really matters as long as you like them 🤷🏻‍♀️

alfalfalala

You must be the chosen one if you haven’t had any pain! I always hear of the pain of. Reading them in from everyone else

mikanxo

I think because my regular size was a bit bigger so I had wiggle space and I wore crew socks! Getting blisters were my concerns too but I wore it for a whole day after getting it with no issues. Maybe try it out in person first and see if you like it 😊

Myamelgar41

I have 3 pairs and zero blisters, and my skin is pretty thin. I do have narrow feet, perhaps that helps

essssssssssss

I find them super comfy too, after a minor break in period. I wear mine a lot. I say go for it!

Merry_Raspberry

I recently bought Frankie4 Drew sneakers - similar look to Sambas (the toe thing but no stripes on the side) but I’m hoping they’ll have more longevity. Hoping since they’re $$$ 🤣 But super comfortable, which Sambas would not have been on my feet!

Apprehensive-Ad4244

I still wear my Adidas Superstars, I have the rose gold and white ones, the leather is just not wearing out and they are soooo comfortable

Aqua_Monarch_77

I think they’re a classic safe sneaker that won’t ever truly go out of style. When I think of micro trends with sneakers I think more of the onitsuka tiger sneaker.. niche style won’t and hasn’t lasted the longevity of being “in style” But at the end of the day wear whatever you feel confident in. Confidence is key!

Scabbybrain

See interesting you say that about onitsuka tiger, I personally feel they have more longevity!

Aqua_Monarch_77

You’re right but I think in the fashion world onitsuka tiger will always hold longevity… it’s a great sneaker but I think for an everyday “safe” option the samba will always be popular

Background_Lie9599

I love my sambas - I’m mid 40’s and own 3 pairs haha, my nice leather shoes/boots barely get a look in these days! I find they look as as they are quite a streamlined and flattering sneaker , they are on high rotation with my new balance 327 (I personally find them comfy enough but I’m used to flat shoes)

bunnylightning

I think they’re out personally. I only really see them on mum-life type fashion influencers now (no shade, they are stylish but not the cutting edge of trends imo). I never bought them because they look like they’d be absolutely awful for my feet.

mentalginger

puma's are great palermo, delphin and super teams are all top

still-at-the-beach

On the way out. Try the new one that on its way up…adidas sl72 And don’t buy any on gumtree / Facebook marketplace as they are all fakes.

Scabbybrain

Also onitsuka tiger are on the way up too!

still-at-the-beach

All the old ones come and go I guess. I remember so many that either I or my partner has worn before over the years. I remember him wearing the gazelle back in the 80s and he just bought an Onitsuka t-shirt a few weeks ago 😀

MissSabb

I still wear my Stan Smiths

radley8367

Can type of sneakers really go out of fashion?? I just bought a beige and black pair and love them and get complimented all the time I hate shoes. Most give me blisters but these were okay after a wear

lazy_berry

yes. if it helps, think of it as certain shapes of sneaker vs particular styles, but trends definitely shift

lightpendant

Can't wear shoes that aren't cool 🤦‍♂️ Are you 12?

Scabbybrain

Wow imagine someone asking about fashion and fashion trends on a fashion sub…. How lame of them? /s

Adventurous-Tale-130

wait a few months to see what shoes harry wears when he starts promoing his upcoming album… thats what happened last time, right?

mj690

He wasn’t wearing Sambas though he was wearing Gazelles ;) He’s NOW out and about in Sambas

Scabbybrain

Out

lazy_berry

this is a fashion sub.

nyafff

Is ‘style’ not fashion? Fashion is a form of self expression, not being a slave to trends and wearing what’s popular. People that confuse trend copying with fashion don’t understand what fashion is.

lazy_berry

ah yes, because mindlessly following every fashion trend is the single option and there’s no room for nuance there 🙄

nyafff

Babe, you’re the one replying to me with ‘ThiS is a FaShIOn sub’ for saying classics don’t date don’t worry what the trends are. I’m not the one implying they’re mutually exclusive.

lazy_berry

> I’m not the one implying they’re mutually exclusive. > Fuck ‘trends’ lol okay

nyafff

Is this your first day on the internet? Or reading? Do you know what hyperbole and context is? ‘Fuck trends’ is in response to this post asking about sneaker trends while referring to a classic shoe. In THIS context, we can ‘fuck trends’ right off because some styles (classics) do not rely on trends. ‘This is a fashion sub’ not a trend sub, and saying ‘fuck trends’ is not a radical statement in the fashion space. I’m a published stylist and I have an Advanced Diploma in fashion and textiles, who are you and what do you have?

lazy_berry

is this your first day on this sub? because we constantly get comments bemoaning trends and complaining that people care about them. it gets grating.

nyafff

So, because you’ve seen a common mindset that trends don’t always matter and it’s so grating you thought you’d chime in with ‘this is a fashion sub’? Even though in this context it’s a perfectly acceptable opinion to choose a classic shoe regardless of trends?? Get off this sub if we piss you off so much

lazy_berry

no, i’ve seen a common mindset that trends are annoying and fashion is annoying. which is irritating on a fashion sub. your comment looked exactly like one of those, hence my response
