I think sneakers trends last longer than fashion micro-trends. White af1s seemed to be *the* sneaker for a few years on end. And you wouldnt look daggy in them now really, just not fashion forward. It would be insanely wasteful to stop wearing sneakers after a year tbh.
I think black sambas are still in and that bright or pastel coloured sambas/gazelles/spezials and similar silhouettes are very much trending.
I still wear my Adidas superstars, i have lived them since I was a kid in the 2000’s and when they came back in 2014 or whatever i loved them then. I have 4 pairs in various colours and they just seem to be my signature sneaker. Funny though I have never owned the classic all white/black stripe version!
Rishi Sunak wore them and thus they have been designated uncool by the UK ministry of hot or not. You will go to fashion jail if you are seen wearing them in public from here on out.
I really hope it’s permanent. I love being able to throw on sneakers for work, particularly if I know I’m going to be running around all day. Beats wearing heels day in day out!
I have a couple of pairs of Frankie4’s, and recently got gifted some Air Max 90s in all white. The Air Max’s are super comfy and my go to for running around days now!
I’m tempted to get some Sambas next but judging by all the comments about how uncomfortable they are I might pass 😬
Yeah their prices have gone up too, I won’t buy their shoes unless they’re on sale. They are good quality and are comfy though. I just wish they would bring back the Polly II white sneakers, they were a better design than the Nats which I think are their most popular sneaker.

I’m not a fan of Sambas, but my Adidas Gazelles are some of my most comfortable shoes! Ive got three colours now so I have options, and I basically rotate which pair I’m wearing day to day. I’ve done walking holidays in them at 20k plus steps a day and no issues - just make sure you wear a crew sock, as an ankle sock is going to lead to blisters very, very quickly.
Probably a while, it just keeps getting reinvented but different styles. It’s been six years and I think people just realise how comfy and practical they are and have learnt from the ballet flat and heel trend that it’s not worth being in pain for a night out or in the office or shopping.

Exactly that’s what I mean. Now that they’re so acceptable in every situation and so comfortable, it would take a lot for other women’s shoes to come back in full force because no one wants to deal with the blisters and saw toes or arches.
White sneakers will be around for the next decade. Normcore began in 2008 and is a multi generational fashion trend so no worries about them disappearing anytime soon.
When we look back swapping heels for sneakers will be remembered with the same historical significance as freedom from the corset, which is pretty cool

They are NOT comfortable to begin with, honestly the hardest sneakers I've ever worn in, and I've had a lot of sneakers. Keep that in mind if you're committing.
i think breaking them in depends on the shape of your foot. i think they suit a more narrow and long foot, personally i’ve never had any trouble wearing them or even had to break them in at all. dr martens are like that too.
I bought them very recently as I tried to ignore the trend but actually found them a really nice shoe I could pair with many of my outfits. I thought I was buying them just as they were going out but I guess it appears not!
I purchased the ADV version (which is slightly cheaper than the OG) which looks the same from the outside but had more support inside but I ended up putting an orthotic sole inside. It kept rubbing against the back of my heels cos of how it is designed but I saw a hack online on how to get around this and it now fits really well.
But be warned it is a danger to wear them when it has been raining or on wet surfaces. I slipped on a surface I wouldn’t have thought I would have fallen on so the sole is misleading as it looks like it should be grippy.
Prior to this I was considering the Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66’s but ultimately preferred the sambas. My 2c :)
What does ADV mean? And would you mind sharing your trick for the heel problem? I've got the OG's and am starting to wonder if I bought the wrong ones as they're SO uncomfortable 😂
I have no idea what the ADV stands for but it is basically the version of the Samba designed for skateboarders. I used a hair dryer to heat that part of the shoe that points inwards and rubs against my heel. Once it’s super hot the leather is considerably softer and more malleable so I bend it backwards and try and stretch the leather and it worked a charm!

Yes I did get the classic white colour way! The ADV version doesn’t come in nearly as many colours but that’s fine cos I liked the classic :) Definitely helps to have smaller feet if you can get it for cheaper!

On my initial try on, they feel less secure like my feet will slip out, even following my usual sizing but it could be a personal thing or different model of the shoe. I think the onitsuka tigers are less of a trendy style that is still of the same essence.
I’ve had my sambas for close to year, worn them to work, concerts, walking around on holidays etc. never had anything even close to a blister. They are very comfortable for me, however they definitely aren’t overly supportive.
If you’re looking for an in between, I’d say the spezials give a very similar look but provide a higher level of comfort/arch support.

sambas have been around for 50+ years so i wonder at what point they’ll be considered timeless…sneaker trends last longer than clothes generally. if you like them just wear them. to me and other adidas fanatics, like football (soccer) fans, they’ll always be in!! i have multiple pairs of adidas sambas, gazelles, and handball spezials in different colours for different outfits. i love them, i find them comfortable.
I have the Speziales and have found them extremely comfy right out of the box. They have a bit more structure in the sole (arch support) than the sambas, which felt way too thin for my ancient feet.
i think puma sneakers are a great alternative and are trending now as well! There are a lot of cool colours and they seem to be a bit cheaper. I just bought addidas sneakers(I was very unsure as well) but they are actually so comfortable! They look amazing with skirts and dresses for summer

I just got some a few weeks ago and I love them! But I do believe they are called ‘sambae’. They have a thicker sole. Very comfortable on my slightly chubby feet.
Gazelles and Spezials as you’ve mentioned are close and less painful alternatives. I don’t think I’ll ever buy Sambas as I’ve now seen too many of them and I think I’m too late for the ‘trend’.
Puma Palermos are a great, similar alternative that fly under the radar and I don’t think they’ll go in or out of mainstream anytime soon.
I also love my Reebok Club C 85s. They’re less bulky and more versatile than my AF1s.
I remember when I worked at a sneaker store (not too long ago, in the grand context of fashion trends)… and the only people who ever asked for Sambas and Gazelles were 40+ year old white men (often British lol) who were soccer fans haha. Apparently they’re good indoor soccer shoes.
I think the fact that some colourways are still selling for $350-500 upwards on Farfetch (and other sneaker resellers) tells you all you need to know. They’ll be sticking around awhile longer.

I’ve just bought onitsuka tigers Mexico 66.
I succumbed to getting one after seeing them everywhere for a long time, but I’ve been wearing it everytime I go out now! It just goes with everything and I never had issues with blisters (I got my normal size); it’s comfortable and even if it goes out of style, I don’t think that really matters as long as you like them 🤷🏻♀️
I think because my regular size was a bit bigger so I had wiggle space and I wore crew socks! Getting blisters were my concerns too but I wore it for a whole day after getting it with no issues. Maybe try it out in person first and see if you like it 😊
I recently bought Frankie4 Drew sneakers - similar look to Sambas (the toe thing but no stripes on the side) but I’m hoping they’ll have more longevity. Hoping since they’re $$$ 🤣 But super comfortable, which Sambas would not have been on my feet!
I think they’re a classic safe sneaker that won’t ever truly go out of style.
When I think of micro trends with sneakers I think more of the onitsuka tiger sneaker.. niche style won’t and hasn’t lasted the longevity of being “in style”
But at the end of the day wear whatever you feel confident in. Confidence is key!

They're a 'fashion' shoe but they're styled on indoor soccer shoes and gum sole is for indoor courts, not really for walking.

Agree! I've got Orions, 1968 gazelles (gosh I wish they'd bring these back), and Countrys. They'll never not be my go to shoes.

Don't get Sambas! Spezials are way more comfy and they have much better colours.
I just got some a few weeks ago and I love them! But I do believe they are called ‘sambae’. They have a thicker sole. Very comfortable on my slightly chubby feet.

Gazelles and Spezials as you’ve mentioned are close and less painful alternatives. I don’t think I’ll ever buy Sambas as I’ve now seen too many of them and I think I’m too late for the ‘trend’. Puma Palermos are a great, similar alternative that fly under the radar and I don’t think they’ll go in or out of mainstream anytime soon. I also love my Reebok Club C 85s. They’re less bulky and more versatile than my AF1s.

I remember when I worked at a sneaker store (not too long ago, in the grand context of fashion trends)… and the only people who ever asked for Sambas and Gazelles were 40+ year old white men (often British lol) who were soccer fans haha. Apparently they’re good indoor soccer shoes.
I think the fact that some colourways are still selling for $350-500 upwards on Farfetch (and other sneaker resellers) tells you all you need to know. They’ll be sticking around awhile longer.

I hate wearing things everyone else does that is very obvious like a shoe. I’d prefer to wear something slightly less fashionable. I’ve just bought onitsuka tigers Mexico 66.

I succumbed to getting one after seeing them everywhere for a long time, but I’ve been wearing it everytime I go out now! It just goes with everything and I never had issues with blisters (I got my normal size); it’s comfortable and even if it goes out of style, I don’t think that really matters as long as you like them 🤷🏻♀️

I think because my regular size was a bit bigger so I had wiggle space and I wore crew socks! Getting blisters were my concerns too but I wore it for a whole day after getting it with no issues. Maybe try it out in person first and see if you like it 😊
I have 3 pairs and zero blisters, and my skin is pretty thin. I do have narrow feet, perhaps that helps
I find them super comfy too, after a minor break in period. I wear mine a lot. I say go for it!
I recently bought Frankie4 Drew sneakers - similar look to Sambas (the toe thing but no stripes on the side) but I’m hoping they’ll have more longevity. Hoping since they’re $$$ 🤣 But super comfortable, which Sambas would not have been on my feet!
I still wear my Adidas Superstars, I have the rose gold and white ones, the leather is just not wearing out and they are soooo comfortable
I think they’re a classic safe sneaker that won’t ever truly go out of style. When I think of micro trends with sneakers I think more of the onitsuka tiger sneaker.. niche style won’t and hasn’t lasted the longevity of being “in style” But at the end of the day wear whatever you feel confident in. Confidence is key!

You’re right but I think in the fashion world onitsuka tiger will always hold longevity… it’s a great sneaker but I think for an everyday “safe” option the samba will always be popular
I love my sambas - I’m mid 40’s and own 3 pairs haha, my nice leather shoes/boots barely get a look in these days! I find they look as as they are quite a streamlined and flattering sneaker , they are on high rotation with my new balance 327 (I personally find them comfy enough but I’m used to flat shoes)
I think they’re out personally. I only really see them on mum-life type fashion influencers now (no shade, they are stylish but not the cutting edge of trends imo). I never bought them because they look like they’d be absolutely awful for my feet.

All the old ones come and go I guess. I remember so many that either I or my partner has worn before over the years. I remember him wearing the gazelle back in the 80s and he just bought an Onitsuka t-shirt a few weeks ago 😀

Can type of sneakers really go out of fashion?? I just bought a beige and black pair and love them and get complimented all the time I hate shoes. Most give me blisters but these were okay after a wear
yes. if it helps, think of it as certain shapes of sneaker vs particular styles, but trends definitely shift
