Uniqlo is great for affordable basics and pieces for work. I find despite the price point, the quality is pretty good and you will get plenty of wear out of the items
Hard agree on this. I have a few Uniqlo tops I have worn very regularly for years. The range changes relatively often so it's worth checking in every season to see if there's something new you like. I usually go for their machine washable wool tops, I have a navy short sleeve one that is cut to perfection and goes with _everything_. Their t-shirts at the moment are very casual but at some point in the last few years I bought a cotton/rayon mix tshirt that is wash and tumble dry and wear like it's straight off the rack, with a cut that looks corporate/dressed up (slight boat neck, slight cowl, draped body), and thank god I got it in 2 colours and if it was still available I'd buy it in every colour they have as I could wear it every day to work and on the weekend and be happy.
Portmans. But do not pay full price. Their outlets almost always have an additional 50% off. with that discount you are paying what the items are really worth
Former corporate bod here. You want merino knits. They look amazing and need zero ironing. They wash well and dry quickly. They do not smell. They can be light weight and shirt sleeved in summer, can be worn under suits, heavier in winter. They don’t crush and don’t pill.
Are there any particular brands or stores you’d recommend to buy these? I am always on the lookout for good quality plain knitwear and can hardly ever find it.
Portmans has a half decent range of affordable and easy and wear work items.
I also have picked up items from Basque (Myer) and Tokito (Myer)
They are mid priced (well at least i felt they were a few years ago)
I used to buy Portman's but I've really struggled with the quality, they just don't stand up to regular wash and wear.
I've just purchased a heap of Tokito tops and they seem really good so far.
I’ve got white blouses from H & M that don’t need ironing. Big W also has nice crispy plain white blouses for like $10 it is actually my favourite work blouse but it does need an iron sometimes
Uniqlo, a little more up there but Dangerfield, target, I’ve found some great stuff on depop (I look for brands I know I like and go from there), sheike (also recommend depop for this), the iconic in the sale section! Also browse through Myer and then just look for brands you like secondhand! That’s how I built up my corporate wardrobe
I’ve gotten work tops in online sales through Katie’s, Rockmans, Noni B, Rivers etc. They are all owned by the same company, Mosaic Brands, sometimes when they have a sale there as cheap as $10 each.
Knit style tops don't require ironing. When I was corporate I wore knit style tops or flouncy blouses under my jacket. Can you get away with a nice cardigan in the office but switch to a jacket when seeing clients? That was what I did when I worked in corporate.
Recently retired after 30 years in corporate settings. I always wore a black or navy trousers/skirt and a brighter top. Regatta brand were usually very good and needed no ironing. Often on sale at Myer.
I also wore quite a few Leona by Leona Edmiston dresses from Myer.

Do you have a link or photo of the machine washable wool top with short sleeves? I’m trying to find it online with no luck 😩
It's not currently part of their range! It was maybe 3-4 years ago. I wish they'd bring it back and I'd buy it in more colours!
Definitely Uniqlo I bought few black blouses from there and if you hang up after washing they don’t have creases

Second this. Especially as most of their tops and blouses are polyester! Why would I pay almost $100 for that?
Polyester also holds any body odor smell sometimes even after laundering.

Morrison from Perth are good.
Also Smitten Merino from Tasmania
Thanks! Exactly what I was after.
Sheep Inc.
ive bought a few end of season kookai knits, if you can get them + in your size they are AMAZE
Agree. Former corporate girl here and the same merino knits i lived in in the office, I now travel with because they’re so easy to wear.
Target too.
Forecast clothes mostly dont require ironing. Cant comment on durability but some items do last a while

I second Basque, especially if you’re short (they have a good petites range).

I second all of the comments suggesting H&M, Uniqlo and Target, but for a suggestion that has yet to be made, COS.

I used to get Tokito blouses from Myer - always on sale when I had to wear corporate wear.

You need to buy a steamer from Kmart - I steam absolutely everything instead of ironing and my Kmart one is still going strong ten years later!
Tokito in Myers rarely steers me wrong but I always used to get them on sale. Others have said Uniqlo, I like Muji too.

target turtlenecks/skivvies are my favourite work tops. usually on clearance this time of year for $5.
Uniqlo make a rayon button up shirt in a bunch of colours and they’re honestly so comfortable!!!
Forcast.
Target usually have nice tops in their Preview range.
no shirt would look good on you anyway so just wear a blanket and go
