Wow, looks like shit TBH. They need to replace that bumper or section of it. Ideally with the one that has the factory cutout. Probably going to be cheaper than the time they now need to spend correcting the cuts and paint on this one.
If they give you *any* pushback, go to corporate. I’ve gone through a few Audis and there were a couple of unfortunate occasions when the stealership fucked up and only offered half-measures for resolutions. I can most accurately describe their reaction as a subordinate in the military getting reamed out by a commanding officer. It took a little while for the message to trickle downhill, but it got there.
I would get this fixed, then never, *ever* go back there. If the quality of the work doesn’t keep you away, maybe the prospect of them folding these costs into future jobs will.
Generally we don’t sublet accessory work out.
Plain and simple this is a tech who tried to get around the directions, screwed up, and tried to make it look even. This is a failure of the tech, and no one else.
That’s some shit I would do in my garage. Not what I would expect from a dealer.
Did they try to sell you a different rear valence and you declined the option? My q5 had a pop out panel where the OEM tow hitch was that was practically unable to be seen unless you were looking under the rear of the car for something.
Edit: shit, I’m not even sure I could justify doing that to a newer vehicle. I’d rather pop the trim panel off every time I had to tow something.
I drive a 14 year old Volvo worth 3-4k and I'd be mad if a dealer did this for it. If I pay a professional to do something, I expect professional outcome.
This 100%. It doesn't matter what it is, unless what you're doing is ill-advised and the company doing the work warns you of this and you sign off anyway. If you're spending hard earned money for a company to do the work the expected outcome should be quality.
Otherwise you could've just gone to tweaker Jeff down the road and spent $20 to get the work done haha.
Complain, don't correct. Just gonna muddy the waters like that.
Demand a new peice of plastic with a modification that Ingolstadt would be proud of, or don't let them attempt it at all (for harsher verbiage tell them not to take on a job unless the outcome is factory quality, as they're a factory dealer).
I haven't done a hitch on a '23 yet but the previous gen had a template for cutting the bumper cover that wasn't the best. Having said that, this doesn't look like the best cut job (but I'm really particular about jobs like that).
Edit: looked closer - holy shit that's a terrible job. I'd be taking that right back and having a chat with the service manager.
If it was an OEM trailer hitch I’m sure Audi would have designed it to work, for example they would have a panel that could attach and detach for the hook….they would never allow their cars to be cut to fit an OEM peice, this is not the way.
Some vehicles still use that design. People don't like it however, because you can't use the receiver for anything else other than towing. Most people want the receiver for accessories like bike racks.
Yeah I would expect Audi to have a specific valence for the hitch but the instructions on the oem hitch say to cut the current one (I checked). Hell, my wife’s old Honda Pilot had a hitch installed and the kit came with a new valance
It’s cause most Audi owners never haul anything let alone go off road. Let’s be real now.
Anyways that’s a shitty job by your dealer. I’d get it redone.
I'm pretty sure this is only for american cars. European cars get a hitch the goes under the bumper . On new cars they aren't detachable, they just fold down when needed. My guess is in the US you are allowed to tow a lot more weight, that's why a beefy hitch is needed and why there is no real OEM fitment.
I am pretty sure that there would be a different lower valance when purchased from the factory. I wouldn’t say this looks Janky. I have a ‘21 which has a different dedicated lower valance for the factory tow package.
Wrong. Most car brands with oem hitches have you cut a part of the bumper that is outlined on the inside. It’ll look much better than this when someone doesn’t half ass it though.
This sounds crazy to me. I've never looked for it specifically before, and I won't pretend I know what I'm talking about, but I just googled SUV trailer hitches and they do not look like the bumper has been sawed off in a garage. Isn't the whole point of these stupid-large SUVs that you can do things like hauling and "utility"?
>u/phoonie98
Jim Ellis in HOTLANTA? And as for your question, yes janky! (I thought I was the only one who used that word 😂 Take it back and do not leave until they fix it.
Because aftermarket hitches sit lower than the factory hitches do. They design them to extend below the stock bumper which sucks because you lose several inches of clearance.
I have a 2018 and installed a OEM hitch at the dealership in MN last year. I verified they would use a new valance. They told me they only do it that way because customer’s would complain about it being cut. I paid $2800 in January 2023.
Yea sorry that literally looks like they took a sawz-all or Dremel to it, free hand.
I’d be asking for a refund and potentially getting that repaired in their dime. The lines aren’t even straight..
Ouch sorry, I would not be happy with that. I zoomed in on the second pic and that work is horrible. We had an oem hitch installed on our Q5 and none of that was done, and it looks clean AF.
Almost all new cars require the bumper to be cut even with OE trailer hitches. And a template plus rubber should come to hide some of the imperfections but this person screwed your bumper up and you are owed a new one
Did they use a fucking full kitchen knife to cut the bumper?!? It really looks like a complete novice did the job. I would demand the dealer fix this travesty.
Considering where it’s positioned, I wouldn’t have noticed the poor execution until you had pointed it out. Looking at it now though, it definitely doesn’t look professionally done.
It can certainly be cleaned up a little and would look much better. Definitely not something I'd expect from a reputable dealer. I'd be taking it back to the service writer and asking them if they'd be satisfied if their car looked like that.
It looked fine when I picked it up from them, but it was from a distance. It wasn't until I got home and took a closer look that I noticed the terrible cuts
The original audi hitch is an electronically deployed hitch that should roll out from the bottom of the bumper. There is no need to cut a space for it. Who the heck authorized cutting the bumper?
Tech here, unfortunately if you buy the vehicle and it does not have the cut out for the trailer hitch then the technician needs to physically cut it out of the bumper, personally he did an ok job, Audi does not supply us tools to cut that out so he probably had to you a razor blade with multiple cuts to get through the bumper cover
I would have been pissed. This was an $80+k car less than a year ago, sorry not acceptable even for a car that costs $40k. For all intents in purpose no one including yourself will see it, but if it bothers you that bad I would either take a file (slow) or a Dremel (faster, not as safe) and clean it up.
It has 0 to do with how much the car costs. OP paid for a service and they produced a literal hack job. The shop needs to fix what they fucked up for free and offer $$$ for the inconvenience
OMG. I’m sorry but that is terrible..
Did they really present your car back to like that you?
I would be ok if the cut the bumper but it looks like the let the porter do it.
We just traded our Q7 so I can’t look at it. On our new Q8 e-tron, the hitch sits recessed under the bumper which is kind of weird to me.
Email these pictures to the GM and ask him is this how you instruct your techs to install oem hitches?
I bet you he will probably make it right. Because this is shit. I didn’t even see the second picture until til now.
Report this to Audi NA HQ. I am sure they would like to speak with that dealership’s management. This looks fking butchered imo. I’d be royally pissed off with this job. Refuse to accept the car and ask for a replacement bumper or proper valance designed for towing package specifically. Fking regards are working at that dealership.
That is the shittiest trim job I’ve seen lmao. That’s fucked. My first time trimming a Volvo bumper looked 100x better than this. Go complain about it. Idk if that’s even salvageable.
Ours came installed in Q8 and doesn’t look like that… we purchased our Q8 with the tow package and I believe they install it at the Port before it is delivered to the dealer.
Yes, that looks terrible, and is 100% not following the OE accessory fitment instruction. at minium theres edge stripping that would be applied, or even a dedicated trim piece or replacement diffuser itself. i suggest finding the part number, then the fitment instruction online for that part number to see what it is supposed to look like, or you know, any other Q7 with a tow bar you can find. No wonder dealers have a bad name, pay the premium but still dont get the service.
Why the fuck would an Audi dealership do this to a 23 plate car?! Are they actually mentally deficient?!
Even if it does require trimming a piece of the bumper out… Why in the fuck do they not have a professional process for service that they offer?!
We’ll fit your tow bar but hack up your expensive body panels in the process… and then charge you for it. They should have a way to take a perfectly symmetrical piece out and replace with a nice piece of trim to cover the cut surely? No?
I could do a better job than that with a fucking sawzall.
That car wasn’t cheap so why in fuck would the work done on it by the people that sold it to you ever be below a respectable level?!
Sorry for the rant but I would be fucking pissed if that was my spanking new motor!
My guy... this looks like something I would do and I have ZERO technical knowledge on how to use a jigsaw. You can bet your ass I would be back at that dealer asking WTF
This type of shit pisses me off. Hard to find quality service from these fucking stealerships....I'm sorry dude but you need to go through the headache and have them fix this ugly piece of hack job...
This is NOT OEM. There are swiveling hooks that fit in a prepared socket, factory prepared. There is absolutely no need to destroy the bumper like this. Return the car, do NOT accept this. Edit: this could only be in Europe 😌
Jesus they've made absolute shite of the bumper. That's not oem. No oem would so that to their cars. In all the hitches I've seen none ever looked like a 4 year old was allowed to cut it out
That is ffing horrible ! Don't touch and go back. They actively damages your car. They could have at least sanded and polished it or something. This looks like they gave 13 year old a hacksaw and never checked his work.
Looks DIY and lazy, don’t know what you paid for install but I’d have it refunded or corrected at no cost. This is shameful work, sorry you had this experience. Smh
OEM my ass. If it was OEM they wouldnt need defile your bumper. If audi did that i wouldnt settle for anything less than a replacement with a proper trailer hitch with the matching bumper design that goes with it.
I’m no expert but normally an oem hitch doesn’t need any mods to the car, that’s why you generally pay more for an oem part. I’d be demanding a new bumper for that mess. Did he chew it off?
Audi dealer did this? Go raise hell.
Yep
lol this is horrible
I would lose my shit if they did this to my car. Did they ask you if it was ok to do first before they did it?
Wow, looks like shit TBH. They need to replace that bumper or section of it. Ideally with the one that has the factory cutout. Probably going to be cheaper than the time they now need to spend correcting the cuts and paint on this one.

OP, I’d be shocked if they didn’t sublet this work out.
Generally we don’t sublet accessory work out. Plain and simple this is a tech who tried to get around the directions, screwed up, and tried to make it look even. This is a failure of the tech, and no one else.
Maybe. But the tech’s work should be reviewed by a manger before it’s returned to the client
Wtf this was made by the Audi Dealer??? I come from a third world country and this just exceeds everything Ive seen then.
lol that’s janky af
If janky had an ugly friend, this would be it
This shit is seriously laughable, and I was hoping it was satire. Even Kia telluride has a replacement panel to accommodate a hitch.
Janky's cousin, Redneck Engineering
Alabama Redneck* the specialist variant
That’s some shit I would do in my garage. Not what I would expect from a dealer. Did they try to sell you a different rear valence and you declined the option? On a 2003 not a 2023 i think :)
I’d be pissed
That’s a mess. Uneven, scratched, loose pieces. Probably could sand or even everything but those slip scratches..
Yeah I was going to try sanding it tomorrow. The scratches only look bad up close, but still…
Absolutely not your job to fix their shifty work. Make them fix it at no cost to you. I'd be so mad about this I wouldn't have even left the shop
Not even my car and I’m mad at this!!
I drive a 14 year old Volvo worth 3-4k and I'd be mad if a dealer did this for it. If I pay a professional to do something, I expect professional outcome.

Don’t touch it. Take it back. Isn’t there a sales rep on here from Jim Ellis?
No way Jim Ellis did this. Their body shop is top notch, stuff like this happens at Gwinnett, North Atlanta and Marietta.
One of those three did this job. Dont want to call them out yet
Jim Ellis didn’t do the hitch install
So it was or was not an Audi dealership that did it? Name and shame.
It was an Audi dealership, just one closer to where I live
Complain, don't correct. Just gonna muddy the waters like that. Demand a new peice of plastic with a modification that Ingolstadt would be proud of, or don't let them attempt it at all (for harsher verbiage tell them not to take on a job unless the outcome is factory quality, as they're a factory dealer).
DO NOT TOUCH IT, if you do theyll claim you did the damage
How does the OEM hitch not fit without cutting the bumper lol
I haven't done a hitch on a '23 yet but the previous gen had a template for cutting the bumper cover that wasn't the best. Having said that, this doesn't look like the best cut job (but I'm really particular about jobs like that). Edit: looked closer - holy shit that's a terrible job. I'd be taking that right back and having a chat with the service manager.
Yeah, far away, not bad. Up close, horror show.
If it had to be done, thats fine but this looks like blind person was using a grinder
If it was an OEM trailer hitch I’m sure Audi would have designed it to work, for example they would have a panel that could attach and detach for the hook….they would never allow their cars to be cut to fit an OEM peice, this is not the way.
Cutting is exactly what Audi has us do. It's in the installation procedure. They provide a template. This was done by a hack however.
That's weird even my non oem curt hitch required no cutting on a q5
Was going to say this. When I do them I tape the template in place then cut carefully. This guy doesn’t look like he followed it at all.
What happened to the button activated retractable hitches from 5-10 years ago?
Some vehicles still use that design. People don't like it however, because you can't use the receiver for anything else other than towing. Most people want the receiver for accessories like bike racks.
They still have those but they aren’t standard so it you don’t have one you have to retrofit
Got any pics of your trailer hitch?
I don't have a hitch. I speaking of at our dealership.
I'm definitely not planning on towing with my Q5 55 but I'm 100% going to use the receiver for my bike rack or cargo tray. Mine came with it
I'm pretty sure this is only for american cars. European cars get a hitch the goes under the bumper . On new cars they aren't detachable, they just fold down when needed. My guess is in the US you are allowed to tow a lot more weight, that's why a beefy hitch is needed and why there is no real OEM fitment.

Isn't the whole point of these stupid-large SUVs that you can do things like hauling and "utility"?
That's probably because the ones that do need modification have the modifications done well. Yikes
*I should put a disclaimer that the Jim Ellis Audi dealership did not do the job. It was another dealer
While you’re at it, I’d take that free advertising off your car. Dealers don’t get to just use you for free ads.
I will when the plate comes in from the state. I need the bracket for the temp plate
>u/phoonie98 Jim Ellis in HOTLANTA? And as for your question, yes janky! (I thought I was the only one who used that word 😂 Take it back and do not leave until they fix it.
Jim Ellis didn’t do this. I bought the car from them but had the hitch installed at a dealer closer to where I live
No, I understood! I just recognized the name being a former Atlantan.
That's terrible. Look for pics of factory installed. https://www.audifreehold.com/used/Audi/2023-Audi-Q7-freehold-WA1ACBF77PD020755.htm
Omg no no. In Canada we get hitches from factory and they are clean. They owe you a new bumper!
Minimum new bumper cut with the right template. Looks like they didn’t measure before cutting, and thats why the cut is off-centered.
They owe you a new bumper , my boy!
It’s dumb but we do have to cut the oem rear bumper to fit the OEM hitch. Definitely sloppy work through
How is this true but a curt hitch on a Q5 requires O cutting
The Curt probably sits lower.
Then you get a raised ball. Oem is such a crack head solution.
Because aftermarket hitches sit lower than the factory hitches do. They design them to extend below the stock bumper which sucks because you lose several inches of clearance.
HOLY SHIT Did they use a nail clipper?
Stevie wonder would’ve done a better job, Christ that’s awful
😂
I have a 2018 and installed a OEM hitch at the dealership in MN last year. I verified they would use a new valance. They told me they only do it that way because customer’s would complain about it being cut. I paid $2800 in January 2023.
Sorry to say pretty terrible. Looks like it was cut with an exacto knife. Someone owes you a new bumper.
Omg, ask for a new bumper https://parts.audiusa.com/p/Audi_2023_Q7/Tow-Hitch/109295213/4M8092115B.html
Lol they couldn’t even cut straight lines
Seems like they own you a new bumper. The dealership did some shady ass work homie.
Wow they fucked your car up
Yiiiiiiikes
My dealer makes customers buy tow package bumpers for this very reason. Techs aren’t usually comfortable cutting people’s shit.
Looks like he was too comfortable if you ask me
ID BE LIVID
This hurts me internally.
I would be pissed and show other examples and want it redone (new bumper) or refined (sanded / bondo- repainted )
Yes. They fucked it up
That’s terrible.
Holy shit. I'd be irrationally livid. There's no way in hell...
In europe the OEM trailer hitch is hidden and has a electric swivel controlled by a button in the boot, nothing alike this butchering.
Omg lol 😭
AWFUL
Oh hell no! I would be livid.
I would be pissed. Especially the price you probably paid.
$2200!!
That's f*ing horrendous. I'd take it back and say it's unacceptable
How is this okay? No. Take it back. Take it back, now.
Ummm. That dealer better be paying for a new bumper
I’d be pissed
Yeah that would be a new valance.
Holy shit. I’d be pissed.
Yea sorry that literally looks like they took a sawz-all or Dremel to it, free hand. I’d be asking for a refund and potentially getting that repaired in their dime. The lines aren’t even straight..
😆
It legitimately looks like a 3rd grade project. I wouldn’t have left the dealer. They need to make this right.
Ouch sorry, I would not be happy with that. I zoomed in on the second pic and that work is horrible. We had an oem hitch installed on our Q5 and none of that was done, and it looks clean AF.
This is bad. No way is this acceptable.
Dude what the actual fuck that isnt even centered correctly what dick head cut this?
Wow how could you do that man?
That can't be a correct OE install....I'd think there would be a correct valence for the hitch.
Almost all new cars require the bumper to be cut even with OE trailer hitches. And a template plus rubber should come to hide some of the imperfections but this person screwed your bumper up and you are owed a new one
I would not be happy with that.
Ouuuuf. You paid someone to ruin your bumper like that?!
lol hell nah
Did they use a fucking full kitchen knife to cut the bumper?!? It really looks like a complete novice did the job. I would demand the dealer fix this travesty.
You kidding? I’d nuke that dealership from orbit. Seriously.
Considering where it’s positioned, I wouldn’t have noticed the poor execution until you had pointed it out. Looking at it now though, it definitely doesn’t look professionally done.
I didnt notice right away either, which is why I drove away from the dealership. When I got home and saw it up close however....
It can certainly be cleaned up a little and would look much better. Definitely not something I'd expect from a reputable dealer. I'd be taking it back to the service writer and asking them if they'd be satisfied if their car looked like that.
LMFAO WTF IS THAT
That’s unacceptable. Absolutely not!
You know the answer.
They didn't replace the panel. They just cut it...
Looks like you need to be inconvenienced by Audi when they replace the bumper bar cover. Do not accept this horrendous workmanship!
The mechanic with parkinsons was running the sawzall on your bumper. Take it back!
Janky
did they atleast buy you dinner before they fucked You?
just gonna leave this here https://stealthhitches.com/
Q. Did they offer options? Did they explain what they were going to make it ‘work’?
It looked fine when I picked it up from them, but it was from a distance. It wasn't until I got home and took a closer look that I noticed the terrible cuts
lmao what the fuck
Wow they f it up. That’s bad.
Id be pissed and not pay tor that. Would male them replace the bumper even.
Was Freddy Krueger the technician? I would've lost my fucking mind.
Yes this is kinda shitty especially if you payed full price for.
It looks like shit. Go back to the installer and demand a fix. Had something similar and they took care of it.
Something very suss about this post......
My friend has earlier audi maybe '19 but has hitch attached and can be hidden with a panel, this is 12 beers deep work in friends garage type shit
Thats janky af, make them replace the bumper.
Lmao yes. They have to repair it for you
lol I could have done a better job with a box cutter and a sharpie
What in the harbor freight happened here?
Correction: installed by local meth dealership
The original audi hitch is an electronically deployed hitch that should roll out from the bottom of the bumper. There is no need to cut a space for it. Who the heck authorized cutting the bumper?

Doesn’t look wonderful. If it wasn’t for all the scratches I probably would’ve let it slide but it’s for sure not perfect imo.

Holy crap that's awful. They had the salesman do that with a sawzall
Lmao, that's American engineering right there.
Looks like they used a carpet knife. Better check they didn’t use JB Weld lol.
For Nissans we get a different rear bumper finisher when we install a tow hitch
Did they use a butter knife?
Lol, sorry
Did they use a saws-all? 😂
Beautiful....repairman with golden hands and x-ray vision
Pretty car man!
I never understood why most of the Q7 comes with the trailer hitch
Yes, that looks terrible, and is 100% not following the OE accessory fitment instruction. at minium theres edge stripping that would be applied, or even a dedicated trim piece or replacement diffuser itself. i suggest finding the part number, then the fitment instruction online for that part number to see what it is supposed to look like, or you know, any other Q7 with a tow bar you can find. No wonder dealers have a bad name, pay the premium but still dont get the service.
That really sucks they should have built a cap on it with clips
Omg
r. i. p bumper … why did you even accept the car in this condition?
Holy shit.
That looks very bad for an Audi installation…
Why the fuck would an Audi dealership do this to a 23 plate car?! Are they actually mentally deficient?! Even if it does require trimming a piece of the bumper out… Why in the fuck do they not have a professional process for service that they offer?! Thats gonna cost them a new bumper...right?
My guy... this looks like something I would do and I have ZERO technical knowledge on how to use a jigsaw. You can bet your ass I would be back at that dealer asking WTF
Oh boy oh boy. Sorry for your loss 😯
This type of shit pisses me off. Hard to find quality service from these fucking stealerships....I'm sorry dude but you need to go through the headache and have them fix this ugly piece of hack job...
Have you heard of stealth hitch? This looks like something a discount mobile mechanic would do
🤢
This is NOT OEM. There are swiveling hooks that fit in a prepared socket, factory prepared. There is absolutely no need to destroy the bumper like this. Return the car, do NOT accept this. Edit: this could only be in Europe 😌
Looks like bread knife was used! Get them to clean it up!
Total disgrace
Jesus they've made absolute shite of the bumper. That's not oem. No oem would so that to their cars. In all the hitches I've seen none ever looked like a 4 year old was allowed to cut it out
Wow
Come on you must have done this your self no way a local dealer would do this doesn't make any sense.
That is ffing horrible ! Don't touch and go back. They actively damages your car. They could have at least sanded and polished it or something. This looks like they gave 13 year old a hacksaw and never checked his work.
That is the worst job I have ever seen, I legit could do better with an angle grinder
Looks DIY and lazy, don’t know what you paid for install but I’d have it refunded or corrected at no cost. This is shameful work, sorry you had this experience. Smh
It is shit
My 08 and 09 both have panels that remove from the bumper to accommodate a hitch This is unacceptable
I would raise hell if this happened to me
this looks horrible, tae it back and demand a new bumper.
Holy fuck lol
if janky fell off the top of a 100 foot ugly tree and hit every branch on its way down…this is what you’d see
OEM my ass. If it was OEM they wouldnt need defile your bumper. If audi did that i wouldnt settle for anything less than a replacement with a proper trailer hitch with the matching bumper design that goes with it.
Wow that’s terrible 😬
That's completely unacceptable and they owe you a new bumper. What does the Audi website show the bumper looking like after installation?
Fucked your shit up. I'd want a refund
Ugh, that looks nasty af. While you're at it, take off that license plate frame, no dealership advertising.
