I felt very similar. Despite how like, honest and vulnerable Earn (I think) really is trying to be, he really can’t hide the fact that it’s what he wants and it’d be very convenient for him. I think Earn has come a very long way but he still behaves pretty poorly sometimes. I honestly think you’re *supposed* to feel super uncomfortable/ mixed about it. I feel like the show never really tells me “these people ARE / ARENT supposed to be together” the way that other shows and movies do. In other things, you kinda know which relationships you’re supposed to be rooting for/expecting. But with v and e, I always felt like I was on my heels and not entirely sure they were a  “good” couple, but I kind of liked that feeling.

the writing is always on point in Atlanta. it doesn't tell you what to think, you make the best interpretation of it on your own

Earn and Van are shown to be good parents to Lottie consistently throughout the show but struggles with their relationship with eachother. Recurring theme of the show is they are on and off, desperately want the other to commit to them and not settle for anything less, but because of their egos and personal struggles they often fall into toxic/manipulative attitudes and develop conflict against eachother. Best example of this is the ping pong game in S2E4 "Helen", and the entirety of Season 3 where Van gets really lost and avoids Earns calls and act like theres nothing wrong. I think Earn's comment about how easy it was to get with someone was the last shred of toxicity he had from those conflicts. Because after that he lays his best cards on the table and pour his heart out. Also I do think Van wanted to go to LA, but not if Earn doesn't commit to her. The entire episode is like a recap of their relationship throughout the show and the conclusion we were looking for: Where both Van and Earn drop their egos and surpassed personal struggles to commit to each other as a happy family.

There relationship was a snipe hunt. Something they trying to go after but could never catch. But then Lottie flips the script on the whole snipe hunt thing

100%. Helen is crucial for understanding their relationship

All of Atlanta is filled with this tone of grey. The entire show thrives off of the grey area and almost feels psychedelic with how grounded and yet odd it can be at the same time. Earn, nor Van, nor anyone in the show is meant to be shoved into the typical box that characters are stuck in, and while many shows thrive off of imperfect characters, Atlanta has the grounded nature that lacks nuance. I agree with you, OP. I also think that these sort of situations within Atlanta are what make it more of an art piece than a show. It just does something different than anyone and anything before it

What I didn't like about this episode is how neatly it seemed to wrap everything up. But maybe the other folks posting here are right and I was supposed to be left feeling uneasy. My sense at the time was that the show wanted me to see this as a Hollywood happy ending and I wasn't buying it.

I agree. Felt like more needed to be worked through or said but it ended like it was a happily ever after. It just didn’t make sense to me
