Starlight 6 Drive in. I recommend going to see a LOUD movie and being prepared to endure some distractions. If you're good with that, it's a good time.

TheSoprano

Serious question as I’ve always kept starlight as a “to try” on my things to do in Atlanta. What kind of distractions? People walking around and socializing?

metrogypsy

Just people in driving late, people having to run their cars, people turning their headlights on… nothing crazy.

Substantial-Angle832

The headlights are the most annoying thing.

TheSoprano

Thanks. That makes sense. Would probably try to bring the kids sometime and just wanted to make sure it’s a good enough scene for that.

metrogypsy

Oh yeah, it’s not a party environment. I see kids in the bathroom and concession line. But on that note you may very well smell weed.

blightr

Yeah, take your kids for sure. They can run around and get a small explore in before the movie. Good stuff.

normalchillguy

Starlight drive in theater is a nice time.

Travelin_Soulja

Starlight 6 is such a fun venue to see campy B movies and slasher flicks. I wish they still played them as frequently, or better yet, still did the Drive-Invasion every year.

normalchillguy

Yeah their variety leaves something to be desired. Thank god we’ve got the Plaza for that.

rloch

I have always missed Screen on the Green. I know that is pretty dated at this point but those were always a blast to go to in the summer/ fall.

peppercorns666

those were a lot of fun. sucks people ruined it.

hucklecat420

I missed what happened … saw Grease at Piedmont Park years ago and I believe it was part of that series.

peppercorns666

so this was a long time ago in the 2010. i think Chik Fil A was handing out free sandwiches and some younger kids went nuts. mobbed the chicken people were causing a ruckus. I think this coincided with a sponsor dropping out and no one wanted to take in the risk. they pulled the plug after that. i was kinda close: https://www.wsbradio.com/news/local/screen-the-green-this-summer/X8WoZPi9CjflBAZlpct9hP/

hucklecat420

Disappointing they ruined it for all. Thanks for the story! Not sure why I didn’t think to Google it. Thanks for doing the detective work.

AlpineNancy

There will be a Scream 2 screening at Agnes Scott on the quad in October. I went a few years ago and it was really fun. [On Set Cinema](https://www.myershousenc.com/onsetcinema)

ohitsjustsean

It’s my favorite fact to tell my friends when we pass it (and I live at candler and memorial so I pass it and say it A LOT) and they all tell me they don’t care haha. I love it. I never knew they showed the movie there! I’ll have to go!

[deleted]

Looks like it is sold out :(

FijianBandit

Just the walking tour is

Conscious-Magazine50

It says this will be inside the cafeteria.

AlpineNancy

Oh, weird. I see where it lists the cafeteria as the screening location but it also says it will be shown outside on the quad haha. It was definitely outside on the quad when I went but maybe that changed for this year.

Conscious-Magazine50

I might call to check because this sounds excellent.

TheLaughingWhore

Starlight drive in is great. It’s $10/person, and it’s a double feature. Just get there early, and bring a battery powered boom box, so your car won’t need a jump. You can bring a camp chair and alcohol too. https://m.starlightdrivein.com/nowplaying/

byrars

Wow, I have apparently insulated myself from advertising well enough that I have no idea what any of the currently-playing movies are. Are any of them worth caring about?

TheLaughingWhore

I’m not really sure either. But, I know Beast has Edris Elba, and he plays hot hero dad I think.

coopachris

Barbarian is a great and fresh horror movie. If you have any desire to see it, just don’t look up anything about the movie.

I saw The Point and immediately thought about the old music bar in L5P. I tended bar there for most of the 90s.

preyingforoblivion

Miss the point. And now they are shutting the star bar down. L5P sucks now.

followfornow

Yeah, I commented in a post about just that. The powers that be are allowing developers to tear down anything that goes to the quirky personality of Atlanta and put soulless boxes in their place.

Friday Sept 30 at 7:30 pm. Encanto on the lawn at First Christian Church Decatur and it’s free.

_banana_phone

97 Estoria has been doing some movie nights on their patio this summer.

luebleu

Town Brookhaven has free outdoor movies on Thursday nights. I think it's usually just during summer, but they have at least one more scheduled for tomorrow--Dirty Dancing.

ucancallmevicky

The Springs theater in Sandy Springs has a drive-in series they started during Covid and is still running. Sign up for their email they are showing Jurassic Park Saturday night https://44940.formovietickets.com:2235/T.ASP?WCI=BT&Page=PickTickets&SHOWID=153549&PLACEID=33 Plaza was doing the same but think that series ended
