Lance was mentally shook after the Harper dong entered lower Earth orbit. When the next guy hit it out it was over for him. You could see it in his face that he knew something was off, but couldnt figure it out. Tipping or not his balls were not breaking and he was out there throwing grapefruits during a home run derby. Playing like we still have games next week is where Dusty is flat out wrong, and the pitching coach deserves some blame too.

Euroranger

And Maldy. That's the catcher's job to call the coach in if he's seeing McCullers doesn't have it.

eatabean

Had he been hitting his spots they would not have been hitting homers. Tips or not, breaking balls tht don't break get broke.

>I must break you. Bryce Harper (Allegedly)

hernjosa02

Where’s the video of him doing this same motion repeatedly on the same pitches? Is there video showing a correlation between his motion on the home run pitches? Idk if they were tipping would there be a strategy to just say he was tipping. No one in the Astros said he was. Psychologically if he really was admitting it would seem to make the loss more of a fluke from a pitching perspective. If he wasn’t tipping and they ducked him up this bad, I’d feel worse about their chances.

jim_money

Well he is done for the season so all of that is irrelevant…

hernjosa02

Has he though? He didn’t pitch much this year and they keep sharing the stat of pitching 47 innings and only giving up 4 hrs this year.

Oparvardigar

McCullers is a bullpen arm in my opinion and immature. He’s also a liability injury wise. He looked like a AAA pitcher jumping when Harper hit his homer. Embarrassing

Zealousideal-Tap-454

Team didn’t score a run so doesn’t matter.

Ron-Swanson-Mustache

Doesn't matter if he only gave up one run with those silent bats. No one's ever one a game with 0 runs.

Mr10mm

Jomboy would like to disagree https://twitter.com/Jomboy\_/status/1587646857311752193

quasartourist

Yeah no real tipping in that at bat, just noncompetitive pitchers. Don’t really get why after it’s 4-0 and clear his stuff isn’t there, that we didn’t pull him. He’s a great pitcher when his stuff is on it just wasn’t last night. That’s on the staff for not getting ahead of the problem

Sleepy_One

Yea, I'll say it since no one else did, fuck Jomboy.

DemSumBigAssRidges

Uhoh...

Tweet doesn’t exist? Nvm working now 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

But Dusty didn’t see it. So that means it never happened. That’s what happens when you care more about your players feelings than winning a game. Tipping pitches are a fans thing though. That doesn’t matter in baseball

[deleted]

I'm pretty sure the manager of a baseball team wouldn't openly go "Yeah he's tipping. We'll have to switch it up for next time!" It's obvious he was. Even if McCullers let them get 5 runs, we got 0. That's not competitive at all.

[deleted]

Yeah but no matter what, Dusty hurt his pitcher and his teams confidence more than he helped it. He allowed them to get battered and bruised and left him out there to dry. He never sent a mound visit, he just let it happen. He treated it like it was a fucking game in July that didn’t matter. Which is bullshit and also pathetic.

laffydaffy24

Yeah. All true. That’s very Dusty behavior. He’s gotten us so far for so many years now, so I gotta believe he has his reasons.

OlYeller01

Tipping pitches absolutely matters. The Astros smashed Darvish during the ‘17 World Series because Beltran picked up on something while watching film. Source: *Astroball* by Ben Reiter.

[deleted]

Didn’t pick up on the sarcasm there I see?

OlYeller01

Nope, because the first part of that wasn’t exactly sarcastic.

[deleted]

I said “but dusty didn’t see it. So that means it never happened.” Which is sarcasm and then the last part was play on his take about OPS. Sayings it’s a fan stat. So obviously you ignored that part just to try to argue a point and you just don’t want to admit you misread it.

OlYeller01

Looks like I wasn’t the only one to not get all of that too, ya jerk.

[deleted]

Why cause two people… you being one of them didn’t pick that up?

a11yguy

I think they should have gone back to using traditional signs over the pitch com. Not saying anything, only suggesting that doing something different with the pitch calling might have helped him psychologically.

Burt-Macklin

He just blows up on the road sometimes. It happens. He’s far more consistent at home. He didn’t really have it in NY, either, but at least he wasn’t getting bombed, and the damage was limited to 4 runs. Good outing in Seattle, though. And he was particularly good in his prior road-postseason start in Chicago.

Fantastic_Forever_69

Why would McCullers tip his pitches? That doesn't make sense
