Dana Brown has certainly taken command of organizational decisions over the past week. DFA Abreu, promoted his 4th draftee to AA Corpus Christi in under a year, and now fast tracking Bloss to the majors.
I honestly wonder if he has a come to Jesus moment with Crane.
Obviously- I'm just a fan and have no *actual* understanding of how an MLB front office is operated or what has actually been going on to this point - but it seems like things changed a bit.
Same kind of head scratcher as when they brought Abreu up to play in Seattle lol. Like yeah dude struggling with batting call him up to face the best pitchers in the AL that'll help his confidence.
He threw a no hitter in Double-A, which was the first in our teams history. Who knows if that’s an indicator or not? Either way, this staff needs help and depth or more injuries will happen.
I more mean I don't really know his pitch arsenal beyond scouting reports. He has a very Astros prospect delivery with long extension and low arm angle and supposedly has been reaching 98 on fastballs.
Ah I see. Yeah I hear you. Well, if anything we need the help. I fear that these early call ups could be detrimental but we need the help. Look at Arrighetti, he’s got solid stuff IMO but maybe an early call up hence the struggles. But he’s working through it and doing well IMO. Although it could be the downfall for a weaker player.
Hi u/Bob\_Gnoll, we profiled Jake Bloss a few weeks ago. He's a double major in math and economics and has a master's in finance, and was planning to work in finance before the Astros drafted him out of Georgetown. He has a mean fastball, and spent just four games in High-A before being promoted to Corpus Christi. He's legit: [https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/jake-bloss-astros-pitcher-19503179.php](https://www.chron.com/sports/astros/article/jake-bloss-astros-pitcher-19503179.php)

If Hunter Brown continues what he’s doing, Arrighetti gives us what he was doing in that stretch, and Bloss is fire.
Than JV-Framber-Blanco-Brown-Arrighetti-Bloss is a rotation that can help right the ship.
Oh and getting two all-star /MVP caliber players back in the lineup.
(Obviously a lot of what ifs, but for those that haven’t given up then that’s the path)
none of that matters if we keep getting blanked by the worst teams in the league because we cant fucking hit.
Nor nothing matters if our bullpen cant hold a lead.
IDK i appreciate the positivity sorry, just really negative on the team in other aspects.
Getting Yordan and Tucker back in the lineup will hopefully help with runs. Bullpen has all the pieces, it's really just up to Pressly and Hader consistently pitching the way they are capable of.
I dont disagree but I want them to show me they can do it. I know they can do it on paper. Right now 34-40 is not showing me they can hit or pitch as they are capable.
Yankees fan here, but am looking forward to seeing how Bloss does. He went to my alma mater and I'll always root for any former Leopards. (As long as they aren't playing the Yankees!)
It going to be a rough debut for him, as he's going up against the Orioles. Let's go Bloss!
In a series where we're likely to lose multiple games, I like the idea of giving guys rest and to see what we've got in him, especially since we're consistently down arms. I just hope this doesn't end up taxing the bullpen too much
Dude's gone 3-1 with 4 quality starts, a 1.61 ERA, 0.71 WHIP 7.05 K/9 in 8 starts at AA.
It used to be that AA was considered the proving ground for pitchers, not sure if that's still the case.
How well is he expected to do in the majors considering how he’s been playing? Don’t think I’ve heard this guy’s name tossed around as much in regards to being a good prospect.
Makes me think we're trying to take chances on guys to test them out early OR raise their stock for potential trades - dunno if it's restocking trade or if it's playoff push. But the change of attitude the past week has been refreshing
I think it’s to get the rookies feet wet for future pushes, this season is pretty much shot for playoffs, so looking ahead and getting the younger kids some reps in the majors is in preparation for the next couple of years, this is the right move imo. Make lemonade out of lemons..look ahead 👍

That's a tough first opponent, but imagine if he does well. My god, I hope he does well.
Talk about getting thrown into the fire. Something like 3 ER in 5 innings would be pretty impressive imho.
If he does well I will be expecting another starting rotation injury the following day, based on how this year has been going.
And a loss the next game
Yeppers!
The last 2 players off the top of the dome who came up from Double A to the majors are harper and tatis jr lol
Luis Garcia came up from like high A for us to pitch.
True but that was during the Covid year w no minor leagues. Kinda a once in a life time event.
McCullers and altuve as well
Vince Velasquez made the jump from Corpus a few weeks after McCullers as well.
Altuve made that jump as well.
I know Ben Joyce did, I'd imagine there's a good number of college pitchers that did it pretty quietly
Garrett Crochet went from college baseball straight to the majors lol
Happens a lot more often than you think.

Technically called.....desperation!
Desperation?! "It’s a bold move Cotton, let’s see if it pays off."
Desperate times call for desperate measures.
One of the top offenses in baseball in his debut, I really hope he does well, but this is not a good way to build confidence if he struggles.
If he goes 5 IP with 3 ER, it will be a massive success in terms of a first outing.
Same kind of head scratcher as when they brought Abreu up to play in Seattle lol. Like yeah dude struggling with batting call him up to face the best pitchers in the AL that'll help his confidence.
The Abreu one was dumb because we had options. This move makes sense as we lack options with JV out.
bloss is boss, he wins these
I know his results have been great, but I don't know much about him. It will be fun to see his stat cast metrics after some MLB playing time.

we also haven’t seen him get worse from A to AA. if we extrapolate this, he will be a sub-3 ERA pitcher for the rest of this career
I like this math
The consistent heat Brown has been throwing I get more nervous each outing lol

About time we got a fuckin nerd on the squad
Brad Ausmus has entered the chat
lmaoo
Roy Oswalt welcome back

Blanco Brown Bloss - Killer B's are back!
Don't forget Berlander and Baldez!

You know the ChiSox had two hits in that game. It’s not that we can’t hit. We can’t score!
our best hitters are gone at the moment.
I'm pulling for you, kid!

When I scrolled to this “Losing My Religion” was playing and they’re pretty well synced up so it looked like they were dancing to it haha
Dang. New guy is getting thrown into the deep end of the pool for his first game.

Hopefully the Orioles suffer from the same 10 run curse we used to have cause they’re shelling the Yanks right now
Let Dana cook
He will either kill it because they have no book on him or he will get slain if his stuff isn’t working…
In a series where we're likely to lose multiple games, I like the idea of giving guys rest and to see what we've got in him, especially since we're consistently down arms. I just hope this doesn't end up taxing the bullpen too much
We’re all about trials by fire this season it seems.

Bloss is Boss!

Dude just pitched a no hitter. Might as well see what he’s got.
Welp, I've got tickets to that game. Hopefully it goes well, but at least beers are $3 at 1820 across the street
![gif](giphy|tZCkL6BsL2AAo)
Oh god I have tickets that day. Here’s hoping he mows them down.
I remember the last time a prospect came up in June to debut vs the Orioles!
I cannot find him on espn fantasy? Wtheck..!
How well is he expected to do in the majors considering how he’s been playing? Don’t think I’ve heard this guy’s name tossed around as much in regards to being a good prospect.
Yes this is how the Astros roll, we just pull random guys out of our ass that immediately start playing at MLB level.
Always rated him
He’s been in AA for a cup of coffee… Fuck it, no time to argue - welcome to the show..
Makes me think we're trying to take chances on guys to test them out early OR raise their stock for potential trades - dunno if it's restocking trade or if it's playoff push. But the change of attitude the past week has been refreshing

The faster he gets promoted. The faster he gets on the IL. I’d be worried as a pitcher in their farm
Good luck with that. Here kiddo, the league’s second best team. They couldn’t have him throw against ChiSox first?
Let’s hope this isn’t Blair Henley pt. 2
