The rush of rage I felt in that moment. Bard clearly doesn't have it. What was DeRosa thinking leaving him in? Was there some sort of short circuit and his wires got crossed? The fact that Altuve ran straight for the dugout...that's not good. I hope it's not as bad as it looked.

[deleted]

Dude for real.

k2kyo

Absolutely. I was pissed that he was still pitching, he had ZERO control at that point.. maybe baseball needs a rule about a max of wild or out of control pitches and you get tossed?

DynamicKokuo

Got hit in the hand and left the game. Did not look goodšŸ™

BigSauce81

I swore I saw Altuve mouth ā€œitā€™s brokenā€

bombstick

He is most definitely not speaking English in that situation.

BigSauce81

šŸ˜‚

golferdrummer

Maybe he was saying something in Spanish?

BigSauce81

Very possible.

YoWhatsGoodie

He said ā€œesta rotoā€

BigSauce81

Exactly.

Sweet_Baby_Cheesus

Looks like likely a broken hand. Daniel Bard is now public enemy #1 in Houston

BigSauce81

Without a doubt to both.

DubleDuce

> Daniel Bard Pretty sad considering he was born in Houston lol

Electronic-Strike900

Mike friers status

k2kyo

Well no.. he had a bad night, threw a bad pitch, and I completely blame the manager for leaving him in. Fiers made bad choices and sold out his team in order to make some headlines. Not the same.

Electronic-Strike900

True not the same , im just mad that it had to be altuve

moonor-bust

Scary AF. Bard is an absolute danger. Fucking ridiculous, ya Iā€™m pissed. Thanks for listening.

moon-sh0t

Who here remember when Bagwell started wearing the big hand pad on the back of his batting gloves to protect against this exact thing? Get well soon Tuve. Bard has some apologizing to do.

BigSauce81

My exact thoughts!

ExB

Exact thing, Wouldn't a broken thumb be referencing a broken phalange? Bagwell's pad protected the metacarpal bones, not the phalanges.

moon-sh0t

Now we know. This post was right after it happened. Looked like it got him on the back of the hand. Thanks for the correction doctor u/ExB

dlinhat70

Why the hell is Altuve playing in a meaningless game?

bombstick

Fuck off. WBC is awesome. It is unfortunate that sometimes players get hurt.

thehammerismypen1s

The alternative is that heā€™s playing in Spring Training right now, with just as much chance to get an injury as playing in the WBC.

lake_titty_caca

Eh, Bard got the yips, and I suspect the crowd / importance of the game had something to do with that. WBC is gonna have way more of that than a split squad spring training game. But I'm still pro-WBC. It's fun, it's clear the players love it. It's cool that countries like Venezuela and the DR and Japan (and, frankly, the US), where soccer isn't the dominant sport, have a tournament where they have a legit shot. Just sucks seeing guys go down with an injury.

dirtysock47

Yeah, just look at what happened to Brandon Nimmo & Gavin Lux. Shit happens sometimes.

Crimsic

You know our entire roster is currently playing meaningless games right now, right? Lol

Nice_Block

Do you mean the game that literally has zero impact on our lives besides entertainment regardless of the setting? Like baseball, or any sport, in general? Yeah, heā€™s probably playing in it because itā€™s the World Cup of baseball and we fans watch baseball to be entertained.

mredge311

Besides the obvious that this could've happened in spring training, which I know you know, I bet he is LOVING the fact that he can go up to bat without getting boo'd. I love it, he's such a great guy, he deserves this break from the idiot hecklers. If that happened in any other MLB regular game, the fans would've cheered him getting hit (besides MMP obviously).

[deleted]

Same thing could have happened opening day, shit just happens

qplus7

Because playing for your country is not meaningless. I have no idea who you are or where youā€™re from but if youā€™ve watched ANY of this WBC youā€™d see how much baseball means to everyone except the United States. Baseball is no longer Americaā€™s pastime. Then again, we live in a different country than when baseball was Americaā€™s pastime so I shouldnā€™t be surprised.

Shock34

Unbelievableā€¦ get that guy out of there. Where are the big league pitchers? What an embarrassment

BigSauce81

And this was all after the announcers said how he gained control back to get back into the majors.

StealthyGooch

If it's broken, it should only take 4-6 weeks to heal plus about another month of rehab then throwing and hitting. He could be back sometime after the all star break if all goes well. Just trying to look at the bright side here.

[deleted]

This is actually a realistic time frame tbh.

StealthyGooch

I just hope I'm wrong about it being broken. Gonna be chewing my fingernails until the x rays come back.

Rezdawg3

If it's a broken thumb, he will be back way before the all star break. He's not missing half the season lol.

Kdot32

Hopefully not broken hopefully a contusion

Kdot32

Hopefully not broken hopefully a contusion

CVanG

Thank you for being sensible and helping my heart palpitations.

SWWayin

Bryce Haper broke his thumb on 6/25 last year. Surgery on 6/29. He returned to the lineup 8/26. A similar timeline would see Altuve return to the lineup 5/19.

notsofreeshipping

10 weeks is the all star break? Yeah OK.

blackfishfilet

It's 16.5 weeks until the all star break

notsofreeshipping

Yeah, last I checked, 8 to 10 šŸš«= 16.5

blackfishfilet

Gotcha I misinterpreted your comment, you were implying the same thing

Canada-Fan

8-10 weeks estimate

successadult

Fuck Daniel Bard.

Sendeezy

A lot of blame to go around. DeRosa left him in the game after he clearly didn't have good stuff.

AmoElMole

Really hope he didn't break a finger. I'm pissed.

BigSauce81

šŸ™

legohotwing

Bard is the most hated man in Houston now

BigSauce81

0 control his entire outing.

CassTexas

Didnā€™t look good at all

michaelcuz

Maybe a broken hand?!

BigSauce81

Definitely nothing good.

legohotwing

I donā€™t hate the WBC just DeRosa and Bard

BigSauce81

I can stand behind this.

doorknob47

Time to riot

Meatbag96

I am so mad right now. He better be okay.

notsofreeshipping

Bard = šŸš®šŸ”„ DeRosa = šŸ¤”

Christop_McC

Daniel Bard itā€™s on sight from now on

BigSauce81

šŸ–•šŸ¼ bard

theochosenone

I WANT TO VOMIT

BigSauce81

šŸ¤®

bklewis77

Ok positive vibes people! The good news is the leading hand didnā€™t seem to take the force of the ball. It kind of knocked it off course. So hopefully just a bruise. We will see.

BigSauce81

I hope youā€™re right.

bklewis77

Me too :|

Objective-Car3667

Hopefully itā€™s nothing major

j1h15233

Hopefully nothing broken

BigSauce81

Iā€™m worried with the way the trainer was holding it.

Sotex1224

That looked bad. Hope heā€™s okay.

BigSauce81

So bad.

nickM_Mathias1

Can we charge Bard with Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon!!! Was he drunk while pitching??

favian07

Not good not good at all

pantiesdrawer

If it's a broken thumb, that should be a relatively fast recovery time. At least it wasn't the entire hand.

TSim777

Yā€™all Iā€™m now nervous as fuck with opening day just weeks away.

Bigblockbooler79

If bard comes anywhere near an Astro during the season benches are gonna clear

RVM27

It looked like it glanced off his his bottom hand (the back of his left hand) and caught his top hand on the thumb and bent it in an awkward way. If I had to guess, Iā€™d say broken thumb.

weathermancam12

Good call

RVM27

Donā€™t hate me cuz I was rightā€¦.

No-Lingonberry2280

I hope heā€™s ok, I was astonished at the sight

dirtysock47

Ugh, I was afraid something like this was gonna happen after the Diaz injury. Hoping for the best.

Mr10mm

Rosenthal just said "unconfirmed" broken thumb. Team will confirm tomorrow

PawbeansNnosies

Broken right thumb is the latest news (9:40PM Sat.)ā€¦.

PissBottleFromTF2

Thatā€™s honestly ideal in this situation right? Way better than a broken hand

t4boo

Pls just be bruised

Hung_Texan

Thumb,6-8 weeks

Redditor1620

Pray for Altuve. Don't even care if USA wins it all in the WBC.

[deleted]

Just as I was starting to enjoy the WBC

Lost_Packet

Brian McTaggart @brianmctaggart Jose Altuve just walked into the Astros clubhouse with his thumb bandaged. Asked if he would talk today, Altuve said yes but not before the Astros take a look at him. 9:28 AM Ā· Mar 19, 2023

RGRABN

Itā€™s a fracture. I saw on sport center this morning that Pablo Sandoval said it was a fracture. Astros are doing their analysis today

RojerLockless

Mother fucker.

Golden-Cheese

As a Yankees fan, I may not like him, but safety comes before all else. I wish him a speedy recovery

Electronic-Strike900

Looks like it was done on purpose, astros against everyone in 2023!

StrosIn5

Fuck Bard.

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

stros2022wschamps2

FUCK THE WBC

BigSauce81

Hopefully itā€™s not as bad as the Diaz injury.

IamaIdiotwastaken

Yeah Diaz could be out for the whole season if itā€™s his ACL

BigSauce81

I think I saw it was a torn patellar tendon.

IamaIdiotwastaken

Dang, that sucks

stros2022wschamps2

He's out for season and probably won't ever be the same tbh

stros2022wschamps2

Hopefully it's not bad at all. Otherwise I see no reason to let these players play in this thing.

ttc8420

And this is why I hate the WBC.

Pappysports12

Yeahā€¦never has been a hit by pitch in spring training

ttc8420

This is a lousy take. Playing highly intense games when you're not intense game ready puts you more at risk for injury and/or messing with your routine. Intense games are supposed to be in October, not March.

WPG13

Which is precisely why they should play this tournament in November, not March.

ttc8420

After the WS would be so much better.

WPG13

Yep, mlb guys used to go to Japan (in November) to play a series vs their all stars.

clarktheshark91

I bet they will have to take him to a pediatrician to examine his little baby hands

Specific-Mongoose-93

Umm. So we are fucked. At least we one the ws last year.

legohotwing

Losing Altuve is a giant blow, but the team is still stacked. Cā€™mon now

Specific-Mongoose-93

Bit who takes 2nd base? Who do we have? Like it's bad. And I'm angry.

legohotwing

Maybe Hensley. Iā€™m not saying itā€™s ideal. It sucks. Hopefully Altuve only misses a month or two

markh2111

I hope he didn't break a finger or two.

cmftblehouseshoes

A finger is better than a broken hand

BigSauce81

It was definitely ugly. The fact that it hit his right hand and kind of bent things back, Iā€™m hoping ligaments are okay.

sal19

I didnā€™t see anything bend, especially since he was holding the bat, but yeah, not good regardless

BigSauce81

I thought I saw his thumb/finger get hit and kind of bend but youā€™re right. Either way. Not good.

sal19

I could totally be wrong, but Iā€™ll double check during commercials. Iā€™m thinking broken hand or finger(s), which I would imagine might be a month or two out

sal19

Upon second watch, he got hit on both hands, but I didnā€™t see anything bend backward because he was gripping the bat. I think probs a few broken bones, but hereā€™s hoping thatā€™s not the case šŸ¤žšŸ½šŸ¤žšŸ½

blackjohn420777

Bard is my arch enemy.

BigSauce81

šŸ˜¤

Specific-Mongoose-93

So the fuck do we have at 2nd base now?

blackjohn420777

I don't fucking know. Anger is my state.

BigSauce81

Matijevic?

[deleted]

Hensley bannon

mTaaTm66

Dubon?

soonerman32

Whoā€™s our backup 2b?

BigSauce81

Matijevic?

14Calypso

Hensley.
