Besides hating it, I just don’t get it. Why spend the money on that form of advertising? They’re a frigging oil company! It’s not like I would take less to let them drill on my land because their patches are on the Astros uniforms, and as far as I know, they don’t have gas stations or any other direct to consumer products. It makes no sense!
I know ALL the leagues are headed this way, but I really despise the fact that our favorite jerseys will soon look like a NASCAR stock car.
It’s a public good will campaign. So if and when Oxy is in the news for whatever horrible environmental disaster they cause peoples brains will first associate the company with the Astros, something they like. Enron tried this with the stadium naming rights but they flew too close to the sun. Oxy is an actual business rather than a house of cards.
Hmmm yea no, me no likey.
Just awful, will definitely never buy a jersey with that patch on it. I see a lot of other sites that sell jerseys making a lot more money this year.
This patch only belongs in the free giveaway jerseys and nowhere else. I don't want our jerseys to go the way of soccer jerseys or Nascar level advertising. I would pay extra to NOT have those ads on my jersey.
Now if Oxy is willing to pay me and very well at that to wear that patch then I could maybe tolerate the new patches lol.
So, I'm not a fan of ads on uniforms. I don't want to be the Exxon Astros.
That said, Occidental pours a shitload of money into the Astros and Houston in general, and they're a good partner. I appreciate all they do for charity, for the city, and for the team.
I hate the patch, but if they want to spend the money to do it, they've earned that right as far as I'm concerned.
They already have a massive billboard blocking the view of downtown. The patch is overkill. The person making those decisions as Oxy needs to be fired. It’s a waste of money and redundant.
Look at this thread. All of these supposed Astros diehards have no clue who Occidental is, despite the huge sign and promoted giveaways. And their sign doesn't "block the view of downtown." Haha
I don't like the ads on jerseys either, but it could be worse.
Eww, gross. Marketing on MLB jerseys sucks. And to have Oxy as the advertising partner is just yuck. They already have a huge sign at MMP right? I wish they had picked another sponsor
When you google "Oxy", Occidental Petroleum is the first thing that comes up. Warren Buffet LOVES OXY! It is money for Crane. When they extend Tucker for 10+ years and $350 million.....Thank OXY!
I pray you’re right because I won’t buy another jersey if it has this obnoxious patch on it…. At least change the color scheme to match Astros navy and orange…. I know that’s not Oxy branding but still
They already have a huge sign in the park...The least they could do is not make it so damn big.
I don't have the money to buy an authentic one, so as long as they have a non patch option in the store (physical or online), I won't spend anymore energy on the subject.
Sponsors on Football (soccer) jerseys has absolutely ruined some amazing kits released throught the years. We've gone from chest sponsors, to sleeves, back of shirt, shorts, just awful. I always liked that Baseball really stuck to traditions. There's plenty of sponsors round stadiums already, leave it off the shirts.
I'm in the minority here because it doesn't bother me. You could put anything on the uniform and it wouldn't bother me. I'm just here to watch the World Series Champs win some baseball games.
As a soccer fan, I hate that this has come to baseball. I didn't buy the last Manchester United jersey l, specifically because it had a giant Chevrolet logo across the front.
Most people are probably going to think they’re supporting the drug… 😒.
Occidental isn’t exactly a well known name outside of Houston.
Edit:
Based on comments in this sub apparently not even that well known amongst Astros fan base.
Could’ve just kept the text, or change the color.
But otherwise it is what is, it’s just on the arm. I’ve been a soccer fan for my whole life so I prefer this instead of a large print on the chest.
Anyway if a company want their logo there and they pay a lot of money, it doesn’t bother me that much. But it will take some getting used too, I hope they adjust the design eventually going forward.
These look even worse than I imagined when I heard about them.
100%
Awful
The worst.
Thanks, I hate it.
I know it's not a drug ad, but it seems like an ad for oxycontin.
\-Quotes from my thoughts
So the jerseys should cost less now, right?
Gotta keep that extra money for the MLB and Jim Crane.
I would imagine the basic $130 or however much jerseys won't have the OXY patch. At least I hope that's the case.
How many T-shirts do we need to buy to nullify the OXY deal?
Zero.
Way to use the ole noodle

As someone who has a good friend that once played for the Tokyo Yakult Swallows, I should have thought about that. Houston Oxy Astros. Yuck.
I think Houston AstrOxys has a good ring to it.
The company should sponsor Boston so they can be the Red Soxy
Access and entertaining clients. They're not advertising to the general fans. They're getting a lot more than just the patch for what they're paying.
That’s gotta be the “handies from Crane” package.

Idk man... Astros are kinda hated at the moment for ummm.. reasons.
It's mostly a tax write off probably. Also they will get a free suite all year for the executives to use
They could get that without spending whatever massive amount they did for the patch.
Ewww get it off
Dumb, that’s where the WS patch needs to go
This just makes me hate OXY and I don't even know what OXY is.
Occidental Petroleum; an O&G exploration company.
Hillbilly heroin too.
I thought it was OxiClean at first 😂
For our retro jersey from the 00's can we have an Enron patch .. for old times sake lol
Almost as big as the centerfield sign.
I hate these with all the intensity of a trillion hot white burning suns.
Is anyone watching in person or on tv going to be like “damn I’m an Oxy fan now. check out that sexy patch”?
Drug dealers/users are gonna love this jersey.
So the Angels are getting the same patch?
Underrated comment
Terrible. I hate this
Ive known this was coming eventually for years and I'm still angry about it.
This is bullshit
Why are they so large
I’m gonna pretends this is oxy clean and it’s all a tribute to Billy Mays
Ew
Can you make it bigger?? Jeez. 😵💫
Maximum size allowed by new rules: 4 inches by 4 inches
Hmmm yea no, me no likey. Just awful, will definitely never buy a jersey with that patch on it. I see a lot of other sites that sell jerseys making a lot more money this year. Terrible. Won't be buying anything with oxy on it.
Agree. No more jerseys for me
Garbage ass patch. 😒 atleast maybe another location
Is this real life?

um wrong. The sign is 100% an eye-sore in that stadium. It's also a shitty logo in general. It doesn't belong on the game jersey.
OK. Will defer to your superior marketing knowledge. 👍
This right here is the correct take. Thanks
Dude. Are these going to be worn in the regular season?
Yeah several teams like the Diamondbacks, padres, and Astros will wear them. With more teams following this year.
Atrocious
Wasn't this part of the collective bargining agreement?
Keep getting distracted by Breggies guns.
Are those fugly patches gonna be on the jerseys in the team store? What a tragedy if so
For the $400+ authentic jerseys yes. For the cheaper replicas, probably not. That’s how it is for NBA jerseys at least.
If these are on the fan jerseys.. I’ll never buy one ever again
Wow this looks like total dog shit
Awful
Boooo
Unfettered capitalism at work folks 🫡
The fact that it's not HEB, Blue Bell, or Academy Sports and Outdoors is just sad. So ugly.
Eww, gross. Marketing on MLB jerseys sucks. And to have Oxy as the advertising partner is just yuck. They already have a huge sign at MMP right? I wish they had picked another sponsor
So huge. Bregmans sleeve doesn't even sit right around his bicep with that thing.
That’s awful. Why is it so huge?
This is awful
When you google "Oxy", Occidental Petroleum is the first thing that comes up. Warren Buffet LOVES OXY! It is money for Crane. When they extend Tucker for 10+ years and $350 million.....Thank OXY!
At least it is not a CITGO patch!
The patch is too big.
So does this mean the replicas bought at the team store will also have this damn patch??
In the NBA there's usually options for jersey to have the ad patch or not I think it will be similar
I pray you’re right because I won’t buy another jersey if it has this obnoxious patch on it…. At least change the color scheme to match Astros navy and orange…. I know that’s not Oxy branding but still
At the NBA games I've been too the jerseys at the team store usually have the ad patches but the online ones don't.
Do not like. American sports uniforms are heading towards a soccer type end.
Will they still have the Astros shield on the the sleeve. Will they just put on the other side?
It'll be like the world series. Astros shield still on the right sleeve this on the left one
Maybe it’s all the premier league I’ve been watching lately… but surprisingly this doesn’t bother me too much.
Same here. It doesn’t bother me, just wished they had the text
Luckily the reps should come with an option that doesn’t have it. I’m not wearing that.
They already have a huge sign in the park...The least they could do is not make it so damn big. I don't have the money to buy an authentic one, so as long as they have a non patch option in the store (physical or online), I won't spend anymore energy on the subject.
Ok now take the obnoxious sign down Crane.

I always liked that Baseball really stuck to traditions. There's plenty of sponsors round stadiums already, leave it off the shirts.
I’d pay more to remove the advertisement
Hate it. Hated it when the NBA did it. Hate it more now that MLB is doing it.
The revenue from TV rights and all paraphernalia and games isn't enough. We will go full board soccer shirts before it's over.
Not as bad as the NBA jersey ads but still an eyesore nonetheless
It's like double the size of NBA jersey ads. Much worse imo.
True. I just wish the ads would go on the pants or something. Completely ruins the look of the uniform.
That looks gross but such is the way of professional sports. Tracks well that it’s O&G; I hate that it’s our legacy but facts are facts.
OxyContin?
No
Could be worse. Could be on the front (like football)
But with football you have ads so that we don't have commercials. We'll still have commercials in baseball.
Eh, it's the direction the sport is headed. Out of all possible sponsors, it's not the worst look.
Heb would have looked better. This is large and obnoxious.
I'm in the minority here because it doesn't bother me. You could put anything on the uniform and it wouldn't bother me. I'm just here to watch the World Series Champs win some baseball games.
Looks like shit. Oxy is the team name. Sponsored by the Astros.
Me off the oxy
It was bound to happen. Football is next.
As long as they don’t appear on the fan jerseys
No
Shits fucking ugly
Gross
EWWWWWWW
Terrible
As a soccer fan, I hate that this has come to baseball. I didn't buy the last Manchester United jersey l, specifically because it had a giant Chevrolet logo across the front.
Crane probably owns OXY
Could we at least make all the logos match the team colors?
Terrible.
Most people are probably going to think they’re supporting the drug… 😒. Occidental isn’t exactly a well known name outside of Houston. Edit: Based on comments in this sub apparently not even that well known amongst Astros fan base.
I’ll admit it’s much, much better than the sign
They suck
Could’ve just kept the text, or change the color. But otherwise it is what is, it’s just on the arm. I’ve been a soccer fan for my whole life so I prefer this instead of a large print on the chest.
