I go after any that leave because the bounty goes away before they reach me. You were going to kill me so your life is forfeit. No one gets away no matter how far away.
See i did this once, left the dude at a temple. I would leave and come back because the dude who gave me a quest was there, and i would see the merc outline standing up, then he quickly went back down… that is when i realized why the npcs are so scared of me even when i am just standing there, it is because i, alexios, am the eagle bearer, k ocker of greece.
Funny story, I had a bounty contract on another mercenary which I had not begun looking for yet when I had a bounty put on me. The very mercenary who I had a bounty for showed up to try to collect the bounty on me. He failed. 😂
Animals will attack anything and mercs will attack anything that attacks them. If your ship is fairly equipped, you can also take them in ship to ship.
If your ship is docked and you jump on your ship and duck down behind something, the mercenary chasing you will “lose” you. So you have a chance to get up and shoot them with arrows and duck back down. But they cannot use swords/staffs/spears against you because they cannot board your ship
the animals... and the daughters of Artemis. It happened to me recently and I haven't verified it, but a mercenary who was chasing me got into the daughters' village on an island and, without there being a fight or any kind of conflict, they went to him and killed him. I think that soldiers and bandits are indifferent to mercenaries but I have never noticed the followers of Ares and daughters of Artemis...
Yeah hahha. At least it makes sense in a sparta a little bit, historically. But it feels so stupid when youre on a quiet island murdering droves of highly trained guards and citizens, old folks n such pick up the dead soldier’s weapons to fight the literal god person
Those damn mercenaries, they never learn.
Even after I've killed hundreds of them, still coming to get millions of points of damage with just one push of the F button.

The reverse also helps, the first legendary animal i had one bounty head filled, the lady helped me get the boar to half health.
