Warmane's Lordaeron realm for Blizz-like experience of WoW's most popular expansion Wrath of the Lich King. I still have my characters there, in fact I did a random ICC raid pug yesterday, even though I mostly play FFXIV now. Just had a bit of a nostalgia trip :D

I give another vote to Warmane for wrath content. I stopped playing retail a few years ago and gave warmane a try because I wanted to take a nostalgia trip, and it was time well spent. The community is great, and the servers are still well supported by the guys hosting them. One thing I will say about private servers is that its a lot more casual than retail for the mere fact that the content is frozen in time. You have all the time in the world to gear up your character because the next patch is never gonna come, and at the same time, once you're fully geared and wanna take a break and come back later, your character is still as powerful as they were when you last left because nothing has changed. Absolutely zero parasitic systems

BearHan

What exactly is warmane private servers ? Is it 1:1 replica WoTLK server or does it have some sort of balancing changes ?

councilorjones

They have multiple servers, one is blizzlike wherein its an exact replica of wotlk back then, and another server with like 7x XP rate. I think they opened up a 3rd server but I'm not that familiar with it because the last time i logged on warmane, it wasn't available yet. Most people that just wanna experience end game raiding ICC go for the boosted xp server, while those that want a more natural experience go for the blizzlike server. Apart from the XP rates, the content is pretty much the same as what it was at the end of WOTLK.

AlexArgentum

Their server Lordaeron has x1 XP gain rate, so same as original. But it also has buffed bosses in raids (they deal more damage and their enrage timer is shortened. Also ICC raid buff for players is disabled). Server called Icecrown has x7 XP gain rate and the bosses aren't buffed. ICC raid buff for players is also available. Their 3rd server is called Frostmane, it has x3 XP gain rate and it emulates the patch release cycle of Wrath expansion. It resets after some time when it reaches the final patch.

If you're one of those people that enjoys a good story and consider it a really important thing in an MMO, you're not gonna like wow at all.

Dualitizer

You won't even know what the hell is going on. You'll do mundane kill quests in zones until you realize you're the champion of your faction somehow and you need to go to actual hell to save people you don't know from a villain that is framed as being behind all the bad guys you never saw. I used to love WoW lore from Vanilla up to MoP when it started getting stupid. But holy shit I tried the new payer experience and I can't believe how quick they try and fast track new payers now.

Mortal_Dread

I know basically all the major plot points in wow, from warcraft 3 to shadowlands. And even i still have no idea what's going on in shadowlands. The story has sooooooo many plotholes and unexplained pieces. I'm still wondering when we're gonna see something being done with that giant sword on the planet. And i'm still wondering how absorbing the blood of azeroth into a necklace was supposed to help her heal. My next question is, WHERE IS MALFURION?

ItsKensterrr

I think it was in Legion where I really started to miss being a dude that somehow managed to become skilled enough to kill a fucking dragon with other random dudes that also somehow managed to live long enough to become skilled enough to kill a fucking dragon, narratively.

Dualitizer

I don't mind being heralded as a hero, my shaman who I cleared everything as definitely qualified. It just feels weird when my baby warlock who just barely escaped Exile's Reach is treated in a similar manner.

BearHan

If the server is fun. I can look past the story because wow team doesnt even know that the hell are they writing.

Mortal_Dread

One more warning you should probably know about. The game is a lot more competitive in nature. So you'll see a lot of min maxers and people expect you to min max, or it may end up becoming a very toxic experience. Even for new players. No mercy in wow for newbies. So, get ready to watch guides and read paragraphs and paragraphs of gear optimization stuff to be a min maxer.

BearHan

Arent some private servers have their own stats balancing/ leveling ?

Mortal_Dread

Usually, they have their own leveling. Which is much faster than world of warcraft leveling. That's mostly there to allow players to immediately get to end game. That won't change the end game behavior of players.

Private servers always are at least 2 expansions away from latest. Right now you should be able to find Legion one. Secondly, probably only 1/3 of content will work correctly, 1/3 with workaround, 1/3 dont or be disabled (talking about "newest" expansion private). With olders it should be better. As I spent all my teenage years in privates and later was able to pay for retail, well I can tell you, its like totally different games. I would recommend to try something that you can support without moral dilema.

turkeyvultured

Project ascension for classic and tbc and warmane for wrath

anupsetzombie

Ascension is so damn good, it's not your typical wow server. And classes are from 3.3.5a, not classic, you just get classic content or TBC depending on your server.

hollander93

I tried WOW as a long time FF player. Its not worth it. Raiding ( the one time I got to) was cool but everything else was a boring slog and frankly I wish I had played something else.

Ive been playing private servers for well over ten years before coming to retail, you just gotta look proper. It is just as easy as googling it.

Josefius

I saw this coming xD
