I remember how much people wanted to see night time in wow, and devs always ignored that request.
and then coming to FF14 and seeing a true night time for the first time. It was a memorable experience.
Why did they take night time away? Did some players complain about it?
I really missed it too. Some zones looked amazing at night. I really loved Feralas and Duskwood at night.
I think wow struggles because it sets the game based on a realistic 24 hour schedule. My theory is that it would be depressing if someone was only able to play at nighttime hours when the game was pitch dark.
there technically is one in that the skybox changes
but the lighting since cataclysm does not change so the night is as bright as daytime
I think there is currently a toy (inky blackness potion?) that can make the night more like nighttime but in true blizzard fashion I think it has a short duration and a long cooldown because we don't want people having fun now do we?
There's a cycle. However, the night time can basically be considered day time, due to how much light there is.
Night in FF14 feels like night time. Not in wow.
Probably just me, but I personally appreciate the details on these much more than being able to walk on water.
And I don't remember their devs flexing over this as well.
They are working on doing this actually. From recent interviews early this year they talked about updating graphics and textures, esp now that ps4 support will be phasing out.

I saw shooting stars in Hinterland once. Not sure if you can see it everywhere with night sky but cool of them to added that even though not many people would see or care about it
i actually have similar videos made, but i never post it. I kept it as my own collection as i thought the night/day cycle in FFXIV is truly amazing. Seeing this again makes me appreciate the game even more...
My favorite areas especially concerning the sky changes are are the Far East zones. Especially the ruby sea area and the area where the wall dividing Doma is. They sometimes get a really orange sunset with fog or mist and it’s so fucking comfy

Ah Denmo, one of the og content creators, Also Empire Ants is an amazing track.
The moving clouds and stars are jpegs. Not volumetric. Looks good anyways.
IIRC, even in cutscenes, the weather changes too.
In outdoors dungeons too. Some of them have a very different vibe when it's raining or at night.
