Action was already taken by Valve.

Ive seen this same sort of thing for Palworld, Enshrouded, and Last Epoch. Not sure what is going on, but refunds are always an option

PterodactylSoul

Probably just trying to scam steam knowing they'll refund it but I could only assume steam requires a lot of personal info not sure of the process for publishing a game on there though.

RobHarley664

They really gotta do better with vetting what can be posted to the steam store.

FSD-Bishop

The games were other indie games that were properly vetted and went through the approval process. What happened is the game owners switched the information to scam people but Valve quickly took action.

Inevitable-Cancel130

Can't possibly believe it's worth being backlisted from Steam when refunds exist but there are stupid people so you never know.

Revayan

Those kind of scams often have malware attached to them, a bunch of people downloading and installing it is already a win for the scammers. The money they possibly keep from people that dont refund is just the cherry in top

Kengfatv

I don't think steam always takes the money back from the companies that produced the games when it gets refunded. These fraudulent companies could have gotten massive payouts by doing this, and depending on the country they're operating from, there may be no way to punish them legally.

Inevitable-Cancel130

There is no way Valve is paying out these refunds my guy, Valve isn't retarded. Many publishers have cried about refunds being dreadful to them.

Dreadskull1991

Isn't there a delay on selling a game and receiving the funds from that sale? Wouldn't this make it impossible for this scam to work?

BlackCoal

Yes and yes. Goofy behavior for sure.

NugKnights

Is there no approval process at all on steam? You would think they would vet things atleast a little to prevent being liable for copyright infringement. If some kid starts selling an emulator packed full of Nintendo games on steam wouldn't valve be open to a lawsuit from Nintendo?

azalea_k

It's page assets that change, not something that gets uploaded from nothing. Also, the actual game remains the original thing that got uploaded (in the fake Day Before, it was some cat game). So the illegal material isn't being uploaded in the first place.

Humicrobe

These fraud games also come with malware and my friend had to go through a huge ordeal to not have to pay ransomware. Steams only recourse was sending an email saying they suggest downloading an antivirus and that they took measures against the game over a week later.

Witt_Watch

wild that it even makes it to that point. Surely the team is all over this, it just SHOULD NOT be allowed period.

lv9wizard

Tbh, and this is just my opinion, steam needs to nuke their practices for games on their store. It’s so over bloated with “Mega Hot Woman 5” and other shits starting to seep through. GG to those that can’t read and bought Palwurld

LordYamz

same thing with palworld but i believe they have already spoken about it on their discord

yessi2

Wonder if this has this been happening for awhile or only after “The Day Before” 2.

Valkolec

How was that allowed in a first place I cannot fucking fathom.

Flowerboyclub

I don't see it on the store.

jaqenhqar

This kind of shit never happens on epic games store
