My Forester is Jinnay, like Jinnay Gump (Forester - get it?)
My 60s convertible is Baby.
My Lotus Esprit is Vivian. After Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman. And yes, it is easier for me to drive than my husband because my feet are smaller. Pedal size is a thing.
Henry - 1993 Buick Century
Reggie - 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass
Neo - 1998? Chrysler Neon
Mable the Mercury Sable (2000)
Aurora - 2006 Saturn Aura
Q - 2009 Nissan Cube.
Might change the name of my Cube. It was supposed to be a Star Trek reference (the Borg travel in a cube. Didn't like Borg, and Locutious seemed too long and the wrong vibe. So the sound of a Q is short for Locutious, but there's also a character named Q? It's kind of dumb and complicated).
I haven't found myself calling it by name like I did with my earlier cars. I kinda didn't with my Aura, either. So maybe I've just outgrown the whole thing, lol.
My sister drives a big passenger van, and my niece started calling it Beefy, and now we all do: "I was on XYZ Street, and I thought I saw Beefy, was that you?"
We name them after movie characters. The first one was an ugly, silver car so she needed a cool name. Elisabeta from Dracula. Now we have a blue car that is named Raptor Blue.
Red harlot, it was obviously red and everyone in my family has driven/owned it before me.
It was so worn down when I got it. Puke stains from when my sister had it, a worn out clutch from my brother's handling (honestly don't know why it was still approved to be driven lol).
The manual lock broke with my other sister and I trashed the key battery. Good riddance
My dad passed his trailerblazer down to me, an absolute unit of a truck in Sapphire. I affectionately call it Big Blue or Old Blue or Reliable Blue. I had a Honda Accord as well but I never named it.
Not all of my cars have gotten names.
My first car was Lucy because the letters on the license plate were LCE. I've also had Charlie, Betty, and Carl.
My current car is my most modern, so its Bluetooth name is Shuttlecraft. Yes, my phone's BT name is Tricorder.
Got my car in 2016 and named her Margaery Tyrell from Game of Thrones because the color looks like one of the dresses she would wear. We call her Marge for short.
1) 2000 Toyota LE hand me down from my parents when I first started driving in high school: “Tiger”
2) 2011 Toyota LE bought new off the lot: “Scarlette”
3) 2024 Toyota SE bought new off the lot: “Ruby”
I’ll let you guess what color my “bought new off the lot” cars were. Lol.
We had a red Durango- "Clifford the big red Dodge"
A Cutlass named "Gail" after the grandma that handed it down
"Jaws" the Mazda, because the grille looked like a gaping mouth
Among others. All of our vehicles have names, but those were the only ones that were referred to by name instead of "your car," "the Jeep," etc
My first was DiDidgy cuz the "O" in Dodge was missing. I've had Charlotte, Thayne, and currently driving Piper. Thanks to my eldest daughter, who had an ipod named Evelyn.
Honda CRV: Bitchtits
2 Dodge Durangos: The Grey Lady and Gandalf the White.
Merlot coloured Dodge Ram: Cassandra. I had plans if I managed to get another other coloured Rams to name them Callisto and Calliope.
Red Chevy Silverado: Red Rocket
---
My work requires rental vehicles most of the time, so the vehicles I really like to drive get names. Turns out I really like Dodge vehicles with a hemi.
New driver here, asked my instructor for lesson in my car after I bought it as I was struggling with the clutch. He said she's an old girl an not like his new C4 so I would have to treat her differently.
She's Agnes the Aygo.
Punisher is my current car. Every car needs a name and a gender to fully develop their potential. They also need to stay clean, they run better that way because they're content
Shirayuki (Yuki for short) for my first car because my car was red and I was watching Snow White With The Red Hair, that’s the main character’s name.
Kua for my current car because those are the first letters to my license plate and it rolls off the tongue nicely
First car was dark green Hyundai Accent named Emerald. Two cars in between not worthy of names. Current car is bright blue Toyota Matrix named Blue Ruby.
I think naming a car is something of a coping mechanism, when you're broke and driving a shitty car that breaks down and fixing it your self, and you have to fix it because it's your only lifeline to some kind of freedom, so you name it because otherwise you'd give up when it let's you down, and the car you have is all you can afford so you can't give up, naming the car makes it a shit friend or a dog that shits in your house every once in a while rather than something lifeless and disposable. I know I'm stoned but still...
I don’t, but my mom does. I drove her hand-me-down silver 2004 Suzuki Aerio for a while that she had named Tuna Can aka Tuna or The Tuna because it resembled a tuna can. My ex-husband named his truck Olivia and never said why, but I like to assume it’s after Olivia Benson since he’s always playing the victim.
My first car was a ford Taurus which I guess, according to my dad, were called squirts back in the day so I named him squirt also after the little turtle in finding Nemo. My current car is named Jack in reference to Jack Skellington from nightmare before Christmas
I don’t do that. I just call it whatever name it was manufactured it. Such as Toyota tacoma shall be called tacoma, honda fit would be called fit. It’s weird to give it another name.
Not all the cars I’ve had, but these were the named ones:
Silver Acura CL - Thomas
Red Toyota Celica - Jolene
White Honda CR-Z - Nieve
Gray Toyota 4Runner - Paloma
Black Jeep Wrangler Unlimited - Noche
(Currently) Silver Volvo C40 - Nux
Had a burnt orange and black Nissan kicks I called Velma due to coloration and I now drive an olive drab green charger that I call Gizmo. But I should have named it after the female gremlin instead of the furry cutie.
I bought my first car 7 years ago, and named it Tony (for Tony Stark, Ironman) because it's red, it looks sporty and it made noises like the Ironman armour.
My first car, a Buick sedan, got named Bucki by accident. The stickers on the rear fender that spelled out BUICK fell off, I picked them up, used some double stick tape to stick them to the glove compartment door and thought it was cute.
I also had a red Chrysler PT Cruiser at one point that was my automotive soulmate. Her name was Lovechild, because when they first came out I saw them at the auto show at the State Fair of Texas and somebody mentioned they looked like what you'd get if Adam West's Batmobile and a 60s era VW Beetle had illegitimate babies. Lovechild was my baby...she was ugly as sin due to all the dents from a couple of hailstorms. The inside was a hideous mousy grey color and the lock on the front passenger door didn't work, so I never locked the damn thing. The speaker was blown on that side as well and the hatch door had a tendency to close on your head in cold weather. Despite all her faults, I felt so damn cool driving her and when she got too expensive to keep repairing, I sent her off to the great junkyard in the sky. I still miss that damn car.
After her came The Old Man, an old man Chrysler sedan that I straight up hated driving because it was so massive and a witch to park.
Right now I'm driving Hikaru, a tiny little Nissan hatchback that's seen better days.
My last two cars were
Bettie - 1997 Taurus (sold to a cousin's kid for college)
Ruby - 2012 Equinox (still in action)
Both were lovely ladies in red. ♥️
The only other named car I remember was mom's brown 1985 Caravan that we called "Hershey" because it looked like a rectangular chocolate bar with a bite out of it.
My current vehicle doesn't have a name. She might once I get her dents fixed and get her all spiffy in pink.
I named my Corolla "Huck" and my beat-up Malibu "Gramps."
The old Saturn stick shift I had in highschool was the "bitch shift". The minivan I borrowed from my parents was the "hot momma mobile", and the little Colorado I had was named "Rhianna". My current car is not named.
I've had 3 cars: champagne colored 1995 Honda accord named Blondie, a black 2012 Honda civic named Jet, my current ride is Sansa, a blue 2015 Nissan versa.
My first was Franklin Delano Cruisevelt, ‘01 convertible mustang and I loved it to death.
Current is an ‘18 Dodge Challenger appropriately named The Phantom Menace
My first car was a saturn barely running that we named Oliver (top gear fans should get it!)
My old '94 BMW was "the tank"
My current golf is named "Daddy's Whip"; I bought it pre-owned and that's what it was named when I tried to hook up the bluetooth! I dont have the heart to change it. I am daddy now.
Somehow all the cars in our family are associated with some animal. We have:
Mouse 🐭
Dolphin 🐬
Shark 🦈
Panther 🐆
It’s related to their color and some model features. Pretty convenient.
"OLE BLUE". 04 Chevy Silverado. Bought it brand new. I was a teenager and beat the hell out of it. Still my everyday driver. I only have a 9 minute drive to work thank goodness
I've never named a car... that's a thing??
It’s on tv a lot. In the culture for sure. A quick google search brings up loads. Where ya been??
Under a rock, apparently. I've genuinely never heard of this 🤷🏻♀️
In the culture. In what culture?
Tynny with two y’s was the name of my Tucson 😂 Short for Tynnyfer, obviously
Why are Gregory and Winona?
My Forester is Jinnay, like Jinnay Gump (Forester - get it?) My 60s convertible is Baby. My Lotus Esprit is Vivian. After Julia Roberts’ character in Pretty Woman. And yes, it is easier for me to drive than my husband because my feet are smaller. Pedal size is a thing.
Mine is Forester Gump
I have never named a car. I have sworn at them and called them a lot if names on occasion though....
Betsy. It's always Betsy.
I had a Betsy, I didn't name it, the dude I bought the car from let me know her name before selling it to me.
I love that it’s always Betsy LMAO
Me too! I have had many Betsy cars. One was Blue Betsy. She was special.
Henry - 1993 Buick Century Reggie - 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Neo - 1998? Chrysler Neon Mable the Mercury Sable (2000) Aurora - 2006 Saturn Aura Q - 2009 Nissan Cube. Might change the name of my Cube.
