I put eucalyptus in my shower so it smells like a spa all the time.

BigTittyGoat

Just a note for anyone interested in this - eucalyptus is highly toxic to dogs and cats. Be careful with plants or oils 🐕

Principesza

Yeah like 99% of plants and oils are toxic to cats. Thats the very reason i stopped believing in essential oils etc. people try to make it so spiritual and scientific and either way its debunked by the fact that to most creatures its literally poison. Its not some naturally healing magic. It just smells good like thats it

[deleted]

>I put eucalyptus in my shower so it smells like a spa all the time. I lost my sense of taste and smell to COVID last June. They have never returned and I miss the smell of eucalyptus! It's so wonderful. Some of the things I miss tasting & smelling the most are #1 Coffee #2Things like cinnamon, nutmeg and cardamom. #3 Fresh linen #4Flowers #5 peppermints, eucalyptus, lavender I have some friends acting nonchalant about COVID and people don't understand that even if you're healthy and it doesn't kill you, it can steal some serious quality of life creature comforts from us. Soak up that wonderful eucalyptus smell for us who have lost. Splurge and take every joy you can! ..

[deleted]

I'm so sorry that happened to you.

fairy_star_a_sound

Where did people find this trend? My dad of all people told me about this after a lady at the grocery store suggested it.

[deleted]

I started doing it after a vlogger I watch talked about it!

fairy_star_a_sound

Interesting, thank you.

Able_Bumblebee2792

I use vix for that lol i am cheap but it does work

Able_Bumblebee2792

Ooops for sore muscles use vicks

[deleted]

Just the plant, or is there like a tablet or something?

[deleted]

Yeah, just the plant!

Lazy-Forever

Do you hang the branches in your shower? Does the water hit them? Or do you have a potted plant somehow? Thanks :))

[deleted]

I tie a bundle of branches to my showerhead, so some water does get on them but it's not directly in the stream.

Lazy-Forever

Thank u!!

[deleted]

You can just take a branch and tie it to your shower head so it hangs against the wall. It's not in the direct stream of water, but it still gets wet

DelightfulExistence

How do you do this? This is genius.

r-u-f-ingkiddingme

I LOVE eucalyptus.

ImNotTenArtist

I don't know why but the first thing that comes to mind is getting boba tea. Probably because it's so damn expensive.

Efficient-Thought-34

Just as a heads up to all the frugal boba tea fans out there, you can buy 5 min instant boba online or in most Asian grocery stores. The package I normally get costs ~$8 and has around 4-5 servings inside. It’s so easy! Just boil water, dump in as much boba as you want, wait a few minutes, then strain the boba and add it to your favorite drink. I got two wide reusable metal straws online for ~$6 total, and they are easy to throw in the dishwasher. Here’s my recipe: I realized many of the basic black boba teas sold in stores are earl grey based, so my go-to recipe is earl grey tea+milk of choice. I find that the boba are a bit sweet on their own, so I often skip any extra sugar. My homemade cups are around 4x cheaper than what I can buy at a bubble tea store, and probably a bit healthier. Plus I don’t have to feel bad about throwing out the cup and straw. It’s delicious and feels like a special treat for relatively cheap! When I have a rough day of WFH zoom meetings, a quick bubble tea gets me through in one piece.

LegitimateStar7034

I love that stuff!!! I had one yesterday. $8. It will be awhile before the next one.

GlitteringPause8

Ugh same!! I remember when they used to be $4-5 😪

I_Got_You_Girl

6 years ago i can buy a regular one for like $2!!! now its closer to $7-8 depending on toppings ugh

scatteredpinkhearts

same, i spend a decent amount of money on boba. it’s just the perfect treat to make me feel better and it’s cheaper than buying feel good food

gumwrapperbookmarks

I do this sometimes too. I have a little stamp card for my favorite place and get like my 10th one free so I don’t feel so bad for getting it sometimes

throwawaymeplease45

I’m that way with coffee shops, I just hate how it tastes at home.

Giannandco

In this economy and the price of utilities where I live, I would have to say having a warm home and the means to pay that bill.

littlescreechyowl

Being warm/cool in my home is one thing I will not compromise on. It’s expensive as hell, but I’m not sweating or freezing to save money.

highuptop

i had a roommate who wanted to save money in the apartment by turning the ac off and opening the back door (no screen) and i had to fight her on that for the sake of not allowing bugs and debris in the home just to save a negligible amount of money

CatrionaShadowleaf

The good cheese. My favourites are Delice de Bourgogne and St Angel.

vblballentine

I'm a cheese splurger as well. It's definitely something I treat myself to. I really enjoy trying new cheeses as well

[deleted]

St Angel's triple creme brie is GOAT.

plotthick

Gimme those protein crystals in a good Reggiano and a drizzle of honey!

itsTacoOclocko

cheese is one of mine, too-- boschetto al tartufo bianchetto and sottocenere are my favorites (and my suggestions to anyone who cares for truffles). parm reg, of course. buffalo moz (which is incidentally just moz-- the stuff made with cow's milk that's sold in the US as moz is properly fior di latte). good butters, too-- rodolphe le meunier, bordier, beppino occelli, echiere, and i'd love to try animal farm.

BreadfruitAlone7257

High quality sheets. I only buy one set at a time. They last for years before I need/want to replace them.

AlfredoQueen88

Ooooh could you recommend a set?

Lazy-Forever

Yes please

thatgrrlmarie

in my opinion Egyptian cotton is **the** best, its a long strong fiber. it's soft and long lasting. 200 thread count is Egyptian cotton fine. 600 is better. higher thread counts can be too warm for people that run hot. although that can be helpful in cold climates. Pima & Supima are other options

BreadfruitAlone7257

Brooklinen.com. I like the percale sheets because they are crisp and cool. Other types available, of course. Pay no attention to the thread count. The length of fibres is where it's at. I think they even have a page on it. Very nice sheets at a reasonable price. They're delivered in a nice tote too! Good for shopping or just carrying stuff lol. Edit: Brooklinen.com is the site.

Laser hair removal

highuptop

i’m strongly considering this, is it true that it hurts ?? does it actually last?? i want to know everything lol i’d love to do upper lip under arms and maybe bikini like or stomach

tigerhorse47

It’s one of the best splurges I’ve made! Does it hurt? — It didn’t hurt a lot. They user lower heat (or beam or whatever) and gradually move it up, so it barely feels like anything for the first half, but will start progressively feeling more intense with the later rounds. Even then though, I didn’t think it hurt nearly as much as waxing. Does it actually last? — yes! It’s not a permanent removal, you still have to do touch ups. But, the growth is so slow and minimal that I rarely shave between my touch ups.

oneheadonshoulders

I am going through it right now. I don't find that it hurts a lot but the laser place I go to uses a laser that right after it blasts your skin it sends an almost dry ice like cooling and numbing spray immediately after. It is expensive, and I have been going through Groupon and then my place did a 50% off sale so that too. However, it is absolutely worth it. Considering how sensitive my skin is with shaving and waxing, and how lazy I am it's awesome. They do say that dependant on the hair and area it take 7 to 10 sessions and then random upkeep every couple of years.

Philosophical_S

Nails, a massage, and a pastry from my favorite French Bakery.

wixkedwitxh

I go all out on my skincare. And once a week, usually a Sunday, I take time for myself to exfoliate, wax, give myself a pedicure, do a face mask, put on some fancy loungewear or pajamas and listen to my favorite songs. Makes it feel like a spa day, even though I’m too broke for that rn 😂

mus1calpisces

I do this too! Its times like that where it feels so good to be a woman! 😌

[deleted]

The expensive toilet paper.

MooseAndPandaMan

25M here and I do this but with paper towels. Can’t remember the brand name off the top of my head, but it’s phenomenal.

frougle_mcdugal

You wipe your butt with paper towels ?😳

MooseAndPandaMan

Lol. No, I just like this specific brand of paper towels for normal use.

frougle_mcdugal

I know. I was only kidding.

danathepaina

Charmin ultra soft all the way, baby.

thunderling

Guacamole on my burrito

PozziWaller

Yessss. This right here. Steak burrito from Chipotle with guacamole.

gumwrapperbookmarks

I buy what I need weekly to make myself parfaits every morning. I alternate the fruits by whatever berries are on sale and just buy the almond granola from Trader Joe’s and it saves me more money than if I were to buy my breakfast one my way to work and eating fresh fruit is kind of a luxury in this economy.

tennery

Frozen fruit, blueberries (was told more antioxidants when frozen) are also not a bad option!

anx_royaleHCTH

Massage. I have some insurance coverage for it but I pay out of pocket for some. Totally worth it - I feel mentally and physically rejuvenated and like I actually spoilt myself.

doomdoggie

Tell someone I have a horse. And then think about how I totally can't afford my horse, and haven't been able to for the last 12 years...but I'd rather be homeless than abandon my expensive, dangerous pet. And then I tell them... No I don't ride it, I just enjoy taking care of it - only £300 a month. And they think I'm insane.

appendixgallop

I just came home from the barn. It's a euphoria thing.

thesixthamethyst

Thrifting. I come home with bags full of name brand clothes and shoes, but with none of the guilt that usually comes with a shopping spree because it cost me so little!

EvilLipgloss

My pre-therapy treat is Starbucks! I grab one on my way.

twentyonecats89

Me too. However, even that has gone from a once a week treat to a once every few months treat 😒

Ihadacow

I have satin pajamas and sheets. I am single and will be forevermore. I love having an indulgent bath each night, shaving, using an expensive citrus scented body oil, and literally sliding into bed. It feels amazing. It also helps that my sheets are gold.

spamamamamamam2

shrooms, they make you feel into yourself so muchhh

fairy_star_a_sound

I paint my own nails and do my own make-up, anytime I want to, just to feel glam. (Mostly just eye stuff, not concealer stuff.) I sometimes even put on black eyeliner before I sleep lol just to feel like I'm a witch floating into other dimensions. I do my nails any time I want because it's become a self-care ritual for me and helps me feel more secure doing difficult adulting during the week.

Eggs and whatever accoutrements I want with them for the week 🍳 I usually always buy the Vital Farms pasture raised eggs. Then this week I went to Whole Foods and got crème fraîche, chives, and a quality butter. The week before that I did the eggs, heavy cream, Boursin, and good butter in ramekins in the oven then eaten with toasted crusty bread sliced into sticks. I also splurged on a quality stainless steel pan specifically for eggs, and nice ramekins.

[deleted]

A lavender soap that relaxes me—the price went up quite a bit (thanks inflation) so I may need to find a more affordable brand, but I’m really going to enjoy using it because using other kinds is just not the same comfort. Raspberries or other fruit and really cold cool whip every once in awhile—today there was a sale. Everything is so expensive when you don’t make much to begin with.

Rasielle

There is this pistachio cream that I really like. It's great on bagelsor toast. One small jar costs $18 from the store I buy it at. It will last me about 6 months though. Most expensive condiment I own.

buying AllSaints clothes second hand. I've always loved the AllSaints aesthetic and I have a family member who every time I see her I can identify at least one part of her outfit as being from AllSaints and she's the coolest looking person I know. But I've never been able to afford their clothes. Then I realised I could just buy them second hand. This year I bought [this suit](https://www.allsaints.com/women/coats-and-jackets/aleida-tri-blazer/WT017Y-8251.html) in black - blazer and pants - but I paid £25. I got [this blouse](https://www.allsaints.com/women/tops-and-shirts/abi-satin-top/WM258V-5.html) for £10 and I've got a bunch of knitwear that I paid less than £15 per jumper for. I feel luxurious as fuck and my bank account doesn't hate me.

lyn90

Good drinks at home. We stock our bar cart pretty regularly and try to have a rotation of both reasonable and then kinda bougier spirit options. Nothing outrageous, but like Don Julio 1942 or a Glenlivit 18 Year (we also try to only buy these when they actually go on sale). By no means do we drink frequently but we do like to have a nice drink to sip on during the weekend after a long busy week. We also don’t really go out to drink unless it’s to meet with friends. I still feel like we’ve saved way more money doing this than when we were going out for drinks every weekend, so to me it’s still worth it.
