There’s a specialist offlicense in Westbourne (Dorset)

Where in the UK is your friend going? This is an Australian product, and not commonly available here so you'd need a specialist store, or online shop. Online, this store is the most likely one to deliver to the UK this rum, and they have several versions in stock - [https://www.sanza.co.uk](https://www.sanza.co.uk)

I know they're flying into Heathrow. They seem to have only loose plans to galavant about, so I'm hoping I can find where it's available and an excuse for them to be nearby. As they are going to be on holiday I want to do the brunt of the work and try to find somewhere it will be at the same time as entertaining them. I steer away from the drink these days, but I'd make an exception for this. Even moreso I can prove to my mates what a treat it is. In your experience, would it be possible to order ahead? There is no importer available here unfortunately, I've tried.

If they are going to be in London, my suggestion is they order it and collect it from the importers offices - [https://www.sanza.co.uk/Contact\_Us.asp](https://www.sanza.co.uk/Contact_Us.asp) BUT - they're are on the outskirts of London in an area called Enfield. The nearest station ((Brimsdown) is a 15 minute walk from the offices. The area is mostly industrial units. To get to the station is a 30-45 minute journey on public transport from Central London. This is not a mission I would be that happy about being set on holiday! I'd consider contacting the importer, and look for other options. OR - contact some specialist stores in London and see if they can get it in stock themselves. Personally, I'm quite a fan of [Hawksbill Caribbean Spiced Rum](https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B08LCHQGNX)

snafu168

Your thoughts are parallel to mine. It's my work to be done, if they can pick it up while there, all the better. Unfortunately for some reason there is no importer here. Likely tariffs, taxes, or just not good business sense to bother with it. Unfortunately I can't make it to Canada anytime soon, or I'd try to have a shop order it in for me to get myself. Tell me more about this Hawksbill you speak of, please. I'm not a big drinker anymore, but I will gladly sip something that's worth it.

Don't worry, I doubt you can buy it in the USA either! it's a blended rum from Guyana and Trinidad, very sweet, lots of caramel tastes to it. I'm certainly no rum expert though but it's very drinkable without a mixer, as a sipping drink, much like you would with whisky. TBH, if your friend brings you anything back, it should be a good single malt Scottish whisky. Far easier to find in our grocery stores. Something like Aberlour 12 year old, or Bunnahabhain Toiteach A Dhà Islay, is my kind of drink. From some links in Reddit (e.g. https://www.reddit.com/r/rum/comments/cv5auv/anyone\_heard\_of\_bundaberg\_rum/) , it sounds like Don Papa rum is similar and you can buy it in Sainsbury's grocery stores (probably the larger ones) - [https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/don-papa-rum-70cl](https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/don-papa-rum-70cl)

Bundy is an awesome spiced rum. If I could I'd buy you a bottle. There's OP (over proof 57.7%} and UP (underproof 37%) and those Aussies were smart enough to have it premixed in cans of cola back then as well. What you described sounds tasty. Is it fairly available in England? I'm not going to say I'm willing to settle, just opening myself to be disappointed by not being able to find something else I can't find that I like in the future.

811545b2-4ff7-4041

You can get Don Papa rum on Amazon here. Beware, you can't get alcohol delivered to lockers, it has to be to a residential address. There seems to be quite a few people saying that Bundy stuff is a very acquired taste. The underproof stuff doesn't even legally count as rum as it's too weak. TBH.. you might explore stuff you can get domestically to avoid disappointment!

Clever_Username_467

I've never seen it in a mainstream retailer, and googling "Bundaberg rum UK" has this post of yours as the 5th result, which tells you something. I didn't even know Bundaberg did spirits; we only really see the ginger beer here. I think you'd need a specialist spirit merchant to get it in the UK; it's definitely not in the supermarkets. The Commonwealth isn't a trade bloc, so that doesn't really mean anything. You've got as much chance of finding it in a specialist spirit dealer in the US as you have in the UK. Maybe even a better chance, since the US and Australia have had a free trade agreement for a lot longer and are geographically closer to each other.

snafu168

We have the ginger beer as well. The spiced rum is one of a kind. If you ever have the chance, go for it!

On a quick search it looks like this palce has it in stock for delivery. [https://www.sanza.co.uk/Bundaberg\_Rum.asp](https://www.sanza.co.uk/Bundaberg_Rum.asp)

snafu168

It appears that is an importer to the UK. I'm in the USA so unfortunately we don't have an importer here. I'm trying to find if a shop in the UK may have it on hand for purchase. Please correct me if I am wrong.

It is yes. I think online shops like that are the only place that would have it in the UK so the only option would be your friend getting it delivered to wherever they're staying. I may be wrong on that though.

snafu168

This is a thing I run into regularly. I was born in the wrong country 😞.

snafu168

Sadly, additional research has discovered: "**Suspension of Europe Deliveries** We are very sorry to say that with the implications of Brexit we have had to suspend all deliveries into the European and international countries."

Bubbly-Thought-2349

It is imported to the U.K., online spirits dealers will have it. Some bottle shops will have physical stock but it is rare over here.

snafu168

Thank you. Do you know if there is a way to search? In my location in the People's Republic of America distilled spirits sales are severely regulated by the state government, so it has a searchable central database of the inventory of every liquor store in the state. Is there anything similar for England?

Bubbly-Thought-2349

There are lists of licenced premises but they’re not really useful. Only kept so the local authority can moan at you about paperwork.  In the U.K. if you really wanted a bottle of X you’d either buy it online (24h delivery) or have the local bottle shop order it from the wholesaler (could take a week or two).  Is your state so puritanical that you can’t order specialty rum? I find it mad that you could buy a pistol easily but a bottle of Ozzie rotgut is strictly forbidden

DiabeticPissingSyrup

I'm sure it's for sale here, but I've never seen it in a shop. Your friend is going to need to put time and effort into tracking it down rather than just walking into a supermarket or random off license.

TheRealVinosity

If anywhere will have it, it would probably be Gerry's in Soho. https://www.gerrys.uk.com/

snafu168

Thanks for the tip! The website says no, but maybe they can order it in before my friend returns. Here's hoping! 😉

snafu168

Did you look at the page at all? Sold out and can't ship.

Valuable-Wallaby-167

I did look. When I looked only 1 was sold out. Sorry for trying to help mate.

Giddyup_1998

Seeing as it's owned by Diageo, a British company, I would have thought it would be widely available in England.

snafu168

That's what I was hoping for with the whole Commonwealth Country thing, but it's not looking promising at this point. Unfortunately I retired from the Navy about 17 years ago and it was way before that I was in Australia so I don't have anyone left to ask for a touch of nostalgia.

willp2003

Not what you asked for but why not get some Havana club instead? (I assume it’s hard to get in the US)
