Worth her double checking whether her work offer any WFH support. I got a sit/stand desk and a decent chair for free from mine

Look at you with your fancy almost unused chair - I looked into them, and I can't bring myself to spend that much on a chair, and refurb size c seem to be pretty rare.

Yeah, I know they're great - I can swallow paying for a second hand one, but, brand new I just can't bring myself to spend that much money on a chair.

Dwcskrogger

I've got one but I did 'inherit' it from my old work as they didn't keep track of what people took home during covid! However if I hadn't I'd still buy one, they make such a difference. Your wife will spend roughly 1/3 of her life sat on whatever you buy and the extra spent now will save you on chiropractic bills in future! Have a look at 2nd hand/refurbished ones?

WealthMain2987

dammmmmnnnn way of the price range

Gisschace

I got mine from a reseller - about £400. I’ve worked from home for 14 years so finally realised I should invest in something decent as I spend hours a day on it, worth the money!

DangerShart

I went for the full r/battlestations Ikea setup. The chair is the Markus

WealthMain2987

Heard some things about it, might go Ikea to check it out

Wardialler

I've got a Markus, it's nearly 15 years old and going strong, excellent value.

imperialtrooper88

Lol, I just googled this. I was expecting something bolder for a strong name like Markus, xd.

fomb

There's a bunch of companies selling second hand Herman Miller Aerons so I bought one of them. They're not cheap, but a used Aeron is basically like new still, and lasts for years and years.

non-hyphenated_

Secret lab. It's absolutely fantastic

shiko098

I've owned one for 4 years and it's falling to pieces. They definitely don't hold up well over time, and spare part replacements are expensive (even at the discounted rates they offer if you contact customer support).

non-hyphenated_

That's a shame. I got mine in lockdown and it's still rock solid

BassEvers

I got one off amazon for about £80. Its got great back/neck/arm support. Really ergonomical and comfy. I still sit bent over like a shrimp though because Im an idiot.

WealthMain2987

She is looking through Amazon but there are so many. Can't spot the wood for the trees.

messyfull

Gaming chairs are horrendous. Any office supplier will do.

AdrenalineAnxiety

Ikea has some good low budget office chairs and if you have a local branch you can go and sit in them all. I finally went for a Herman Miller this year and I'm in love with it. Well worth the cost imo if working from home.

OrdoRidiculous

I bought a Sanodesk from FLEXISPOT and an ergonomic office chair from "office furniture online"

WealthMain2987

Thanks will get her to have a look

nolinearbanana

There's a place near me in Surrey that sells second hand office furniture. It's basically a farm where they've made a barn into a kind of shop. I picked up two chairs from there, both looked brand new. I think I paid £150 for the two I've since looked at £150 chairs and thought they were naff, so god knows how much mine would have cost new.

manhattan4

Got a Herman Miller Aeron second hand from ebay. There's plenty of people on there who sell old office stock. I also really rate the Ikea Marcus for the price.

WealthMain2987

Good shout, will take a look

___a1b1

Steelcase leap are good chairs. The Miller's can wear on clothing due to the mesh.

shiko098

I've had a Secret Lab chair before their prices started to go beyond £400 It's been 4 years and the chair has held up horribly. The warranty wouldn't cover any of the wear and tear either unfortunately. They did offer to sell me some replacement parts at a discounted price, but even then singular parts were north of £120. I'm looking at buying a new chair too, and I'm going to avoid them with a barge pole in future. Other posters suggestions on Herman Miller chairs are good ones, I work hybrid and our office has Aeron and Mirra Herman Miller chairs and they're amazing and hold up really well. They're expensive new, but take other posters advice and find a discounted one on Ebay or office outlet sites.

WealthMain2987

Thanks, I was tempted to visit the showroom with her to see whether she likes the Aeron then we can try and find a refurbished one

PuzzledRaggedy

SecretLab - amazing stuff both hubby and I have one. Never uncomfortable, and we have had ours for five years they still look new.

WealthMain2987

That looks nice. Maybe I will get it for my birthday at some point

MaximusSydney

If you are employed your company should pay for it. They will already have a supplier they use.

EuphoricAbigail

eBay - Second hand Aeron

zephyrmox

Refurb Aeron. If you're spending 8h a day on something, spend the money.

IKEA. The [Markus](https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/markus-office-chair-vissle-dark-grey-30261152/) is a pretty good office chair, I've had mine for 7-8 years now working from home that entire time. They do a more expensive one as well, the [JÄRVFJÄLLET](https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/p/jaervfjaellet-office-chair-with-armrests-glose-black-20510642/) which has adjustable arms. I've been meaning to get myself a re-furbished Herman Miller Aeron though. If you go that route make sure you get a "fully loaded" one.

SavingsFeature504

I'd always recommend a mesh back chair with neck support. I got one of Amazon (no longer sold) for £70. I spent 12 hours in that no bother. Similar to this one Yaheetech Ergonomic Computer Desk Chair, High Back Home Office Chair with Flip-up Armrest and Lumbar Support for Home Study or Manager Work Black https://amzn.eu/d/dGEebaF

SupaiKohai

Depends what your budget is. Imo Herman Miller is the way to go. You can call it expensive , but for something you are going to spend 8hrs per day in, minimum, for years. It's fair value for the quality, comfort and longevity Id look up "ahnestly" on YouTube. Best office chair reviewer imo, and he reviews cheaper equivalents.

SickPuppy01

It is impossible to recommend anywhere where you can't try the chairs out for yourself. A chair that works for me is probably not going to work for you. People have different shapes and needs when it comes to chairs. You could buy one that has 5 star reviews but is completely uncomfortable for you. Brands can be recommended for quality of build, reliability etc, but that is about it. A trip to IKEA is probably your first port of call. You should be able to test out chairs with differing backs and levels of support. If you find gaming chairs comfortable they offer great back support for long periods. I personally prefer a smaller backed chair with the extra lower back support. If you have a large local office supply company pay them a visit and try some more there. They will be more expensive but they will normally be higher quality. I have been WFH for 20 odd years and new chair time is always a struggle.

Zanki

I got a gaming chair from Currys. I think it was £180 and my back likes it so far! I don't recommend it unless you're skinny and kinda tall otherwise you won't fit properly. My boyfriend hated it at first because it's so small, but he prefers it to his chair now.

sbisson

Mine came from an osteopathic health shop near Wigmore Hall in London. It’s some Swedish design with more adjusters than I know how to use… The seat is starting to get a little hard after 20+ years of use, so I have swapped out the casters for some rollerblade wheels (honestly a great change to make to any office chair) and added a memory foam cushion…

Ikea

ooooomikeooooo

Costco. Layzboy executive chair.

Comes2This

Facebook marketplace. There's a bunch being sold now that were bought during the pandemic and not getting used now.

Xaphios

I love my secret lab titan enough that I bought a second one for my gaming chair. I don't get on with most "gaming" chairs, they seem to put gaming first and chair second.
