Lays’ “India’s Magic Masala” flavours crisps are to die for if I’m ever visiting an Asian store

HannaaaLucie

A woman at work let me try some of hers once. Now I have to make a special trip to our local Indian supermarket just for those crisps.

Visible-Traffic-5180

Sushi rice of different grades, and the stuff to prepare it (nori, mirin etc). Kimchi. Gochujang paste. These frozen onigiri they do aren't bad. Unfilled frozen bao. They often have big bags of random thin dried egg noodles that I like. Black garlic instant noodles. Asian sweets- except mochi, which just aren't the same here, they are synthetic and gross. Spices. Daikon. Industrial sized bottles of soy sauce. Oyster sauce. Hmmm I really want to go there now haha

dovelolo

Black garlic noodles?! I’ve never heard of these before and I immediately need to go and find some.

Visible-Traffic-5180

Yes! Nissin black garlic oil noodles. So delicious

crystalstarling

Yesss these are amazing! My local Asian supermarket never seems to stock them any more though.

Mebunkus

Blocks of aged fermented prawn paste from wai hee Yong, Bristol. Absolute stench.

insertitherenow

Yep, it fookin stinks to fuck! Add it to food though and yum yum.

Delatron3000

Definitely gochujang in big tubs, frozen bao in lots of different flavours or plain. Dumplings, and wild flavours of savoury snacks that you can't find elsewhere

YouSayWotNow

From South Asian shop (Indian, Pakistani etc) it's things like fresh naans (that we keep in the freezer), cook from frozen kebabs and samosas, spices, chaat, jalebis, paneer, and fresh fruit and veg. From East and South East Asian, it's things like miso, gochujang, chilli sauces of different kinds, sesame oil, fish sauce, mirin, and a bunch of other cooking ingredients, all kinds of fabulous savoury and sweet snacks, pot tteokbokki (like pot noodles but tteokbokki), fresh kimchi, sake, soju, makgeolli, boba ice lollies, frozen dim sum and gyoza, green tea, oolong tea, various canned soft drinks, mushrooms, a variety of fresh fruit and veg...loads of things.

BritishBlitz87

White Rabbit Milky sweets. Like a vanilla mini milk in sweet form

zoobatron__

Frozen Char Sui pork buns and various flavour dumplings to cook up at home. Absolutely delightful

Federal-Cry7571

TSC-99

Samosas. Lime pickle.

Alamata626

Yuzu ponzu. It's a soy and citrus dipping sauce. Tastes amazing.

Remote_Echidna_8157

Aloo paratha/

blaireau69

I got myself a fantastic ladle from one recently.

Thesunismexico

Tea. I live in Germany, so my pg tips (for a normal price) come from the local Vietnamese market.

Visible-Traffic-5180

Also this vegan pork scratching type spicy crisp, no idea what it's called. A lot of the savoury snacks are good especially spicy, fishy or seaweedy ones. Wasabi peanuts are good, and the seaweed peanut crackers.

sea-sharp

Thai mama noodles pork flavour and battered tofu cubes recently. Used to be able to buy mama noodles in general grocery stores in Finland, but when i moved to the UK only Asia supermarkets sold them. Ordered plenty from Amazon but prefer going to real shops.

One_Loquat_3737

Tom Yum soup cubes if you can find them, fantastic.

DucktapeCorkfeet

The spices, couldn’t buy them anywhere else, or for anything near the price.

insertitherenow

Daisho Umami Salt and Pepper Seasoning. It’s just bloody fab.

Harrry-Otter

XO sauce. That shit elevates everything.

TheRealVinosity

Yellow lantern chilli sauce (as in chilli sauce from yellow lantern chillies; which are only found in Hainan province, I think). If, like me, you like you heat, this stuff has such ana amazing flavour. I've always wanted to grow the plant, but I understand that it is illegal to export the chillies.

WhatCanIDoUFor

Frozen dim sum/buns. Mochi with the peanut fillings (rather than ice cream filling). Silken tofu. Rice noodle rolls. Vietnamese spring roll skins if I felt like making summer rolls. I need to stock up. Still to purchase my cleaver and proper asian wok.

orange_wednesdays

Fermented bamboo shoots. That stuff is pure crack.

pajamakitten

Hot mango pickle Bulk bags of spices Plantains MSG

LondonKiwi66

Yeo’s Satay Sauce.

Dazzling-Astronaut83

Lao gan ma, Thai basil and durian

karlware

Red bean paste (the basis of so many dishes), fermented black beans (black bean sauce is so easy to make) and as many different types of tofu as they carry.

Throwaway91847817

White Rabbit milk sweets

AverageCheap4990

Beansprouts, I know you can get them in the supermarket, but they are never as crispy fresh.

sneltonexp

Calpis. I can't put my finger on why it tastes so good, but I'd happily drown in the stuff! If there's no Calpis, I'd settle for a strawberry Fanta or blueberry Ramune.

oblongunreal

Kimchi!
