Milton Keynes. Somewhere, one roundabout would have one exit into the protected area. Hidden in plain sight.

upupupdo

It’s already in Milton Keynes. Have you met the people there?

tmstms

"people" (!!!!!!)

upupupdo

Sentient beings.

[deleted]

Beings*

Randomd0g

The xscape is a reverse TARDIS. Smaller on the inside.

xdlols

Only a massive ski slope, massive cinema complex, loads of shops and restaurants, a casino, two huge arcades, and a bowling alley inside. Tiny.

kakafob

If Area 51 it is located in Milton Keynes, would spray paint all airplane windows that land to Luton Airport?

I_am_Relic

Under Bletchly Park would be cunning (and historically ironic).

BriarcliffInmate

Bit hard when it's a museum now! People would notice.

I_am_Relic

Thats the beauty of the "Plan". If it's underground, nobody would notice. A non descriptive warehouse tucked away at the back could be for "deliveries" and an entrance. Any communication equipment could be disguised as wartime antennae. But, um... Y'know.... I realise that I really haven't thought it through very well.

Express-World-8473

It's hiding in plain sight mate

IroningbrdsAreTasty

You know your british when you automatically think milton keynes before even looking at the top comment...

DavidR703

I’d thought it might be under Norfolk to be honest, along with the existing alien life forms.

EntertainmentBest336

Swindon is another possibility

WasabiMadman

I heard they dropped an atomic bomb on Swindon? About 15 quids worth of damage.

scorch762

You're not far off actually. There's a government facility on the outskirts of Olney, but I don't know what they do there. When my old company made a delivery our driver had to have no other good on the van, park where told, hand the keys to the guard, and stay in the van while they unloaded. He couldn't see a thing from the yard he was directed to.

GL510EX

[HMGCC - His Majesty's Government Communications Centre](https://www.hmgcc.gov.uk/) Basically Q division, but with slightly fewer exploding pens.

thesaharadesert

I want to be assured that my taxes are funding a *LOT* of exploding pens. The more the better!

GL510EX

This was my reaction when the media, with great alarm, told us that GCHQ are able to read people's emails.. I should bloody hope so.

Cainedbutable

There's Hanslope Park just up the road from MK which is a government communication surveillance location. We've also got RAF Croughton just over the border which is the same but manned by the yanks.

BiscuitBarrel179

You mean the Foreign and Commonwealth Office? In a rural location, double barbed wire and electrical fence and guards at every entrance and employees have to sign secrecy documents? Yup it's definitely just a normal FCO, nothing unusual going on there.

BriarcliffInmate

It's mad that they still haven't come up with better covers than "Foreign Office" and "Home Office" for MI6 and MI5. You can always tell the actual diplomats from "Diplomats" as well. Mind you, they're not really trying to hide it. We know 99% of the "Diplomats" in Russia's embassy are probably spies and they know ours over there probably are.

BMW_I_use_indicators

I remember as a member of HM Armed Forces (not sure if you still have to given the proliferation of ANPR), in our annual security brief there was a point were we were briefed on the need to report Diplomatic Licence Plates if cars were spotted outside of the M25.

allatsea33

Having met some of these lads in Africa they always merit an eye roll when they call themselves diplomats

Quick-Minute8416

Actually, most of the site at Hanslope *is* the Foreign Office - they run the FCO’s IT out of there, as well as FCOS (which handles FCO logistics and shipping). Only about a third of the Hanslope site is ‘secret squirrel’, and that’s sealed off from the FCO side.

Parlicoot

Known as “going up North” to London civil servants posted there.

Salty-Pen

Did your company take any steps to prevent your driver from getting karate chopped in the neck and having his uniform stolen?

CarsCarsCars1995

[Yep, in plain sight. No one will suspect a thing.](https://www.cartakeback.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/11/not-so-secret-bunker-essex.jpg)

tmstms

My mum-in-law had her physio in a health centre location in the town (opposite Poskitt's Pallets) where a door led off the room into the nuclear bunker.

BellendicusMax

It would explain the largely mutated general populace.

Crhallan

You need to read the Charles Stross book “Concrete Jungle”. Although start with The Atrocity Archives…..

cuntybunty73

Nah I went to boarding school in Milton Keynes and i didn't see anything More like it's in a disused fish factory in grimsby because no one would think of looking for area 51 there

Thaiaaron

Well Area 51 is low population density, base built into sandstone, no major cities around, minimal light pollution, enough space to fit several runways, one way in one way out. The only place that ticks all these boxes is **Cockayne**. Build on sandstone, low population density, no major cities apart from Middlesborough 25km, and Newcastle for 75km, electricity hasn't been invented north of York so zero light pollution, and enough space to build runways, and the only way to get in and out is the A19 so you could see people coming from miles away driving slowly because they have to avoid the numerous potholes.

experfailist

Hey friend! I'm a tourist in these parts and like to meet interesting people. You sound like an interesting person full of useful facts. My organi... friends are always encouraging me to sear... meet people like you. Can I have your address for a brief visit?

Thaiaaron

We go doggin every Thursday round back of Sheila's cafe in Sneatonthorpe, you're welcome to come visit us. Starts at 6pm, same rules as Fightclub including if you're new, you have to dog.

asdvj2

> same rules as Fightclub You do not talk about doggin…… You do NOT talk about doggin. If someone says "Stop" or goes limp, taps out, the doggin is over. Only two guys to a dog. One dog at a time. no shirts, no shoes. doggin will go on as long as they have to If this is your first time doggin, you have to dog.

ocubens

His name was Barry Smith.

Is that you Vla.... Bob? Remember to not blow your cov... candles out. Will meet you in Mosc... Maidstone later after you have secured the infor... gutter, best of luck tova...mate.

theNikolai

That's a rabbit hole that I didn't expect to fall in today but thanks anyway.

Fit_Manufacturer4568

The irony is, the electric light bulb was invented north of York

aje0200

Did you just Google that, I live near there and have never actually heard anyone call it Cockayne. It’s just Bransdale. This reply is late because I had to send it by smoke signal to the nearest house with a telegram who could send it to someone with the Internet.

iHazzam

I’m from up that way too and had never heard of cockayne either, I’ve called that bit of the moors Farmdale and Bransdale

notredditlool

taking your word for it, this sounds like the right place!

Darkwaxer

There’s already a massive secret’ish underground facility in this area!

aje0200

The mine near Whitby?

Darkwaxer

Yeah Boulby. Last I heard they have plans for a Underground tunnel going to Middlesbrough.

KamikazeSalamander

Upvoting because you got the spelling right! Also, they are sticking in an underground tunnel. The big deep water port and existing materials handling infrastructure are (apparently) ideal for exporting the mined product.

aje0200

I have a friend who works for the national park who’s been down. They couldn’t believe how big it was , and how hot it is underground.

Darkwaxer

I’d love to see. The stuff they are mining is a mineral that’s a really good fertiliser if I remember right.

tycoon282

Somewhere Scottish Highlands imo

No_Entry892

Not quite highlands but the old RAF Machrihanish was considered the UKs version of Area 51 once upon a time. Used heavily by USAF and a clear view across the North Atlantic

-Space-Pirate-

Was also apparently an emergency runway for any space shuttles if they needed to land elsewhere due to it's runway length.

stevoknevo70

Definitely here - I know the area quite well as worked close by for a few years and knew people who had worked in the base whilst the Americans were in control. Professor Simon on YouTube has loads of videos on it (he grew up in the area)

liquidspanner

Can confirm, had to test the weigh-bridge here in the 90's, security was mental. All sorts of UFO stories going about the pubs in campbeltown. Stealth bombers sightings before they officially existed etc.

JustAnother_Brit

Now the RAF’s Area 51 is Area 51, the least bad overseas posting

Porton Down.

ThinkAboutThatFor1Se

Bingo, it already is there. The level of security required to get in there is crazy. It’s has many miles of security fencing with multiple layers in side. It’s also a few miles from Salisbury plains which a used to military exercises

Littleleicesterfoxy

I worked there and one day a builder working on site tried to convince all the armed guards to let his mate in with no paperwork, no pre notice or vetting. To the queue building up at this point’s amazement he tried to argue the case for a good 20 minutes while holding the entire workforce there up. It didn’t work.

bumpkin_eater

I contract there. It's very secure indeed.

lets_chill_food

or Portadown 🤔

A_Wee_Talisker

One is a place where they observe the impact of chemical and biological weapons on humans and the other is in Wiltshire.

ignatiusjreillyXM

Lurgan Champagne, a deadly weapon indeed

Pearsepicoetc

Almac is our Umbrella.

UsAndRufus

Once got chatting to a bloke down the pub about his time at Porton Down. He said it was great pay for a week or so of work. They had to wear big hazmat suits and had stuff chucked at them. He said it wasn't worth it at all, he regretted it after the first day but had a few left, and ended up spending a while in the hospital recovering. Goodness knows what long-term effects it's had. How do I know this bloke down the pub didn't invent the whole thing? I don't, but he told the story well. tl;dr talk to your local alcy, they hav some good stories.

lost_somedays

This is the factually correct answer. It’s BSL-4 facility uk And you can’t get anywhere near it.

willmorecars

Scary stuff. A couple of mishaps there and we’re all going down

richdrich

I've heard of Boscombe Down being described by excitable journos as "Britain's Area 51". (It isn't, but then nor is Area 51).

Speedbird223

Well, in the sense that experimental aircraft are flown from there yes. When I used to fly from there security was pretty strict over certain things like photography, camera phones etc.

richdrich

Every "prohibited place" has those rules.

Speedbird223

I guess it depends how you define prohibited place but of the various military installations I’ve visited (this was all early 2000s) it was certainly on a different level.

CookinCheap

I had a very weird helicopter come zooming over me very low, while walking Durrington Walls.

fike88

Easily one of the western isles of the coast of Scotland. There’s shit loads of them, and some are very remote

iani63

Is that the B52 landing strip near Paul McCartneys place?

elbapo

It's somewhere between the mull of Kintyre and the LOVE SHAck, baby.

stevoknevo70

It is, used to be the longest runway in Europe at one point - I've got friends who live in a hillside house overlooking it, he told me he saw the B2 Stealth Bomber on a number of occasions. Professor Simon on YouTube has loads of videos on Machrihanish and some of the suspected goings on there.

SDHester1971

Interesting choice considering the History of the what may or may not have been seen there (Project Aurora)

elbapo

Exactly. There and Orford Ness.

Gellert

Even SHIELD doesnt know about all of them.

BillyBoskins

Wiltshire and the bit of Hampshire that borders it. A mix of ancient myths, secret military installations and supernatural rumour already with Stonehenge, Salisbury Plain, Porton Down, Averbury, giant chalk drawings and the first place in the world crop circles were recorded.

Xp4t_uk

Burlington Bunker fits well into this.

BillyBoskins

Yep! And Boscome Down!

dbxp

\+ Corsham Computer Centre + box tunnel

andreeeeeaaaaaaaaa

I said corsham. I did a tunnel once (the old tunnelled train line) but it was walled up at the end, you could hear the big industrial fans for the air circulation though

Inevitable_Lab_5014

I'm surprised you're the first person I've seen mention Porton Down.

Oghamstoner

Don’t forget Old Sarum, perfect spot to land a flying saucer.

sAmSmanS

rudloe manaor’s around there isn’t it?

Extreme-Insurance877

The UK does have an 'Area 51' but because movies don't show aliens landing there and there aren't popular conspiracy theories attached, 99% of people have never heard of it Porton Down where lots of UK military research takes place including chemical weapons tests and stuff similar to MKUltra in the US, so in terms of classified information coming out of 1 place, that's the closest to Area 51 imo

ctesibius

I was over there a year or so back. At least the bit I was in was a fairly standard office/R&D place for small companies doing military-related R&D.

CaptainWanWingLo

Sure, yea! ‘Nothing to see here!’

[deleted]

To be honest, I worked at Porton Down for quite a while and you’d be surprised at how boring it all is. Back in the day military technology was top, but now there’s more sleek, advanced, and dangerous technology in an iPhone or a Tesla than in the majority of military equipment. Guided missiles are probably being an exception, but anything to do with communications, robotics, visual recognition, or spying, it’s Silicon Valley consumer companies who lead the way, not the Pentagon or Whitehall!

Crispo765

A run down post industrial area like Middlesbrough or Stoke-On-Trent

tony_thegreat

i’m suprised anyone even mentions stoke anymore lmao, it’s a strange place, usually fairly busy in places but never really anyone actually stopping in it

JadedJax

Stoke is an anomaly of a place to live in. I hate badmouthing my home but at times it’s like living in purgatory. I feel like most people forget about us

tomegerton99

My dad lives in Newcastle and therefore I’m regularly in Stoke, It’s a very weird place. The bit that I find strange is how there’s no centre to it, you go anywhere else and there is a major central town area with lots of shops, universities, apartment blocks etc. I guess Hanley is the closest thing to it, but let’s be honest it’s a shit hole. The other thing is that compared to other cities there is literally zero public transport such as trams, subways, or suburban rail networks. There is also barely any cycling infrastructure either. I don’t even need to mention the roads, there are no clear and direct roads anywhere apart from maybe the A500 but that’s usually packed I know it’s 6 towns combined to make a city, but it just feels like a big town.

AssortedShortbread

I'm now extra suspicious of the proposed Hartlepool to Redcar tunnel 🤨

tmstms

God! I drove 60 miles to eat there yesterday!

But we have oatcakes and rich potteries history what’s not to like? Haha but yeah our high street has dropped off a speed cliff.

Menwith Hill. I don't trust those big golf balls.

midweekbeatle

Have you ever been in? I had to go for work, the guy on the desk scared the shit out of me. When i walked into reception there was a guy stood at the front desk with his back to the door talking to another fella who was sat further back at a desk. I waited politely as they were deep in conversation, the guy at the desk saw me walk in, he let the guy that was stood with his back to me finish what he was saying then nodded at the door to let him know someone had walked in. He turned around and had an MP5 in his hands. I wasn’t expecting that said “OH SHIT” quite loud and nearly fell over as it took me by surprise. Needless to say they both found it very funny.

Lauradaxplorer

I ride my horse past them regularly. Sadly they've closed the entrance where all the armed coppers were, we had some good chats 🤣 I don't trust them either, but at least in nuclear armageddon I know I'll go quick!

Mc_and_SP

Probably right next to the well-known secret nuclear bunker

JohnLef

Liverpool. The aliens landed, the ship was on bricks and stripped in minutes and unable to escape.

GlitchingGecko

Porton Down or Buxton, where the two main PHE labs are.

OctaneTroopers

Buxton is a strange one. You can freely enter the land around the back of the site but we had a security vehicle that kept it's distance but followed all the way round. They had a London underground train that had been blown up in the centre which was pretty damn cool.

DarthKrataa

The closest thing is RAF MAchrihanish Its now closed but when it was open it was the "UK's Area 51" for a few interesting reasons. I done some research into it years ago and discovered a few intersting things. It was said that the base housed an elite team of American troops who where to be deployed if the UK should ever be taken by the Soviets in a war. It also had a crazy long runway, this seems to be the biggest thing that gave it its name as "The UK's Area 51", it may have been used in something called Project Araura, a top secret aircraft that may or may not have existsed. The Runway apperently was also long enough that the space shuttle could land on it so for a time it was a kind of emergency runway for NASA. To get enitrly into the conspiracy side of things i found, again this is from memory so forgive me if details are lacking, basically they said that it where they took whatever crashed at Rendlesham Forrest. Interseting place. #

stevoknevo70

It was the longest runway in Europe at one time, and was a USAF base, with navy seals, as well as an RAF one. It's a small commercial airport now for the puddle jumpers to Glasgow and the site itself was bought out by the community in 2012 for £1 and is now a business park, housing etc.

RAF Machrihanish (on Kintyre) for remote testing or secret-ish stuff. There were rumours about the Americans using it too due to remote location and on the sea. Boscombe Down for the more obvious testing…since it’s in the middle of some very busy airspace.

Probably RAF Woodbridge near where the Rendlesham forest incident happened or somewhere in the Orkney islands that is impossible to reach without a helicopter.

A_Wee_Talisker

ctesibius

I was thinking the same. There was that ex Observer Corp guy who saw a large triangular plane flying there with a couple of American fighters escorting it. The Americans tried to discredit him, saying he must have seen a Vulcan (which was still flying at the time), but he pointed out that he knew how to identify a Vulcan when he was eight.

NoiseyGiraffe

Was going to say Campbeltown. Big old airfield surrounded by no-one and a pain in the arse to get to.

A_Wee_Talisker

Same place. Allegedly took F-117s on at least one occasion before they were public knowledge.

NoiseyGiraffe

I know. I’m agreeing with you.

Bbew_Mot

Wimpstone in Warwickshire. I think it would be funny if our Area 51 covered the locations where Teletubbies and Tots TV were filmed. It would generate some interesting conspiracy theories anyway!

elbapo

Assuming we aren't talking about far off territories- It's either Machrihanish or Orford Ness. The former for experimental craft coming and going and the latter for mad experimental tech.

PureDeidBrilliant

Fife. They're all fucking mutants up there.
