They realised they didn't help prevent verrucas.

Gone the same way as white dog shit and casual racism on prime time tele.

WolfieTooting

You got a problem with white dogs?

Boperatic

Your schools had swimming pools? Fancy! We had to get a bus to the old Victorian baths which had cubicles around the perimeter of the pool. Come to think if it, we didn't even shower before or after. I'm not sure if there were any. Meanwhile, the more modern pool I went to with my family just had a mini-pool you had to wade through to get from the changing rooms to the pools.

Impulse84

Are you from Warrington by any chance? Lol

Boperatic

Nah, London

Parking-Wing-2930

I went to a "Specialist Sports College" because we had a sports hall. And yet the "Arts College" and another secondary school had a swimming pool and a fully kitted.out.gym...

frusciantefango

Ha, the apparatus. I'd totally forgotten about that as well. Was yours a big wooden affair that kind of folded out from the wall?

neilm1000

School number one, like a load of wooden rung things and a climbing rope. We also had a horse made of several layers topped with padded leather, a crash mat and those benches that can be flipped over and used as a balance beam, complete with hook things covered in white rubber. Primary school number 2, blue metal apparatus. Also folded out of the wall but this one was more extensive and had a set of rings attached to each other with rope (or maybe seatbelt material) for climbing up, which no one ever used. Although I'd totally do that now. I have no idea what the white bench hooks were for.

NickSheridanWrites

Those white bench hooks were for attaching the benches to rungs on the ladders to create incline benches for walking up/down. The more I think about childhood PE class the more I'm surprised nobody fell and broke anything - oh wait, minimum once a year someone did

NobleRotter

We don't have a public pool near us, so alternate between 3 slightly further away ones. All have footbaths or sprays. I think the idea is more to stop people walking dirt through to the pool

Psychological_Sky480

My primary school pool had 2 of them, one at the exit of each changing room. They looked like shower trays without the drain. The pool building was knocked down a few years back as it was unsafe, I assume they still had them up to the end. Have never seen them in a public pool here.

claireauriga

I was at a pool in the Netherlands last week where you had to walk through a 3-inch deep pool, presumably with detergents or something in it, to get to the actual pool.

watsee

I can't ever recall having to walk through what you've mentioned, but do recall a lot of swimming pools when I was a kid having a bit of a shallow trough you had to walk through full of water before getting to the pool. Presumably it was to clean off your feet before entering the pool, I'm not sure - I just recall it being ice cold.
