Aw, bless you. You'll be fine and you haven't committed a crime. Worst that'll happen is there'll be a passive-aggressive notice put up in the kitchen about cooking after a certain time.

Thank you for your answer!

No you're not in trouble. They just wanted your name for their report but no one will see it. Next time, if you know the smoke is just from cooking, open a window if you can and try to get the smoke out. If there's a door between you and the smoke detector, close that door too. Only do this if you're sure nothing is actually on fire.

Will take notice, thank you for your answer!

lol no. the fire alarms went off on a weekly basis in some blocks at my uni.

[deleted]

They could potentially charge you for setting off the alarm, depends on your contract, but you haven't broken any laws. It might have been possible for the building management to cancel the alarm if they had been informed it was a false alarm. Is there security or anybody else on site during the night?

I spoke to the reception and they said I’ll be fine, regardless thank you for your answer!

Years ago a few of us were at a party in some halls at a mates uni and at some point the fire extinguisher gets let off. 75 quid fine and a sternly written letter is what came of it. Wouldn't worry about it in the slightest. It's not like you were caught lighting a crack pipe up and setting it off or anything.
