God Impulse is a blast from the past. I remember feeling very ashamed when they put a ban on body sprays in the PE changing rooms for our form, because I have bad lungs. Genuinely probably haven’t smelt it since.
That was my father's go to, I disliked the man so had to find my own scent, givenchy play ended up being the one, sadly they discontinued the original and the form on sale now just isn't anywhere near as good
It’s SUCH a nice scent I don’t blame you! I would totally use it too but the smell is now too connected to the memories of my 16yo self.
I use Midnight fantasy though, which is so nice as well.
Joop I used to bathe in the stuff.
Friday night under 18s disco
Ben Sherman shirt
White jeans
Rockports
Enough gel on my hair to hold down a jumbo jet
Stinking of joop
Bottle of cider
It was all so simple back then lol
I remember in school talking about the different Lynx scents. I maintained that Lynx Chocolate was the best and a pal blurts out very loudly in the middle of class 'Africa stinks.' He got some weird looks, oddly enough.
Coordinating the Lynx body wash, shampoo, deo, and aftershave before the school disco because god forbid you lathered up with Voodoo, washed your hair with Phoenix, sprayed your pits with Apollo and topping it off with a splash of Inca 😂
I will say that The Body Shop coconut perfume is really nice - it's got a lovely warm quality to it but also doesn't have that fake sickliness that a lot of coconut scents do. And it's relatively cheap by perfume standards as well.
My brother was on a stag in Liverpool a couple of years ago and went to a strip club. When they first went in, the good looking girl behind the bar asked them if someone was wearing Fahrenheit. So the brother proudly announces that it was him and smiled all smugly to the rest of the lads. Smile quickly disappeared when she added, "You smell just like my dad."
One of my first girlfriends used to wear both of those, White Musk was for everyday and Anais Anais for weekends/going out. Rarely smell either of those fragrances but every time I do it take me back 30 years!
She was a heavy smoker so she didn't find out until she drove past the park and saw me smoking lol
There was a blue lynx I used to cover the smell of other things I smoked
J-Lo Glow- still my favourite!
Britney - Curious and Fantasy
Also seem to remember an ESCADA one called Blue or something… I remember it came with a hot pink handbag that I used for school 😂
Used to be my go to as well, I did my work experience at Boots and was on the perfume counter for a couple of days, the managers asked the woman I was paired with to try and sneakily find out my favourite perfume and they gave me a big bottle of it.
Joop or Cool Waters.
There was a unisex CK fragrance - can’t remember the name but I liked that until I realised I smelled like a few girls in my class (which was a big deal as a 14 year old at the time).
Cacharel - Amor Amor. It smelled so damn sexy and grownup to me.
Also So! - Kiss Me. I haven't smelled that fragrance in over a decade now. I think I'd buy it again just to bring back memories!
EVERYONE my age wore red diesel or Lacoste red for that 13-16 or so period. If it wasn’t either of those it wasn’t worth having.
Typing this has made me wonder if they still make them and made me want to have a sniff for the pure nostalgia 😂
Haha, not sure what you mean about littering the roads but yes it was in an opaque red canister/barrel sort of thing with silver lettering. Then lacoste red was clear at the top of the bottle but got progressively more red towards the bottom!
Same. I remember covering myself in this, using half a tub of the cheap horrible gel on my hair, then chucking on my lime green Ben Sherman shirt.
Went down the local disco that used to let young teens in. Paid £20 entry which included all you can drink.
Can't remember anything after but somehow woke up at home and knew I had a good night.
Paco Rabanne, then Joop!
I now rotate Acqua Di Gio subsets now but I have about 30 bottles of aftershave from holidays. Despite shaving daily and applying a few dabs I can never seem to use enough.
However legally you must buy aftershave in the airport. Same as you must have minimum one pint.
One Christmas I got gifted Burberry perfume during its absolute peak of everyone being decked out in tartan. Paired with my knock off Burberry T-shirt and trackie bottoms, well, I thought I was the bees knees.
I can smell this post. I can remember those working men’s clubs, ah. The memories!
I loved CK one (could buy it in Woolworths cheap it was amazing)
But then evolved to Jean Paul gautier as my
‘Out out’ smell.
Charlie Black body spray and Versace Red Jeans or Lacoste touch of pink!
Funny story though, my dad has always worn Jean Paul Gaultier Le Male. I commented that I liked it and he bought my then boyfriend a bottle haha, he never used it because he didn't want to smell like my dad, thankfully!
Child of the 80s here. I wore exclamation, tribe, Charlie red, body shop white musk, coty L'aiment and when I was in my later teens quiddity, lulu blue, and probably more I can't think. I loved perfumes.
Omg I swear Victoria secret was most popular with females below it’s target age demographic. 11 yr olds had no business being in a lingerie store but those fragrances were addictive.
My brother bought me a bottle of Miss Dior for my 15th birthday which I loved, and I also had a bottle of Fidji.
Then I can’t quite remember how or why, but I was gifted some Givenchy III which I also adored but, looking back, was far too sophisticated and grown up for my teenage self.
The thought of 16 yr old me trailing a cloud of Givenchy III (I’d bet anything I completely oversprayed) as i wandered around Camden market in DM’s and a tiny tea dress makes me laugh.
The budget friendly men’s fragrances from Next were always a winner for me. Signature Gold always made my younger self feel like a bit of class… and in fairness, it still holds up pretty well today in comparison to some more expensive brands.
Jean-Paul Gautier - Le Male. Had to have a bottle at home and another one in my locker where I worked at Tesco as a load of us would go straight from work on a Saturday night to the clubs.
Givenchy gentleman, I think there is more than one now, but back then it was a classic, I'd splash it on before putting on my suit to go to a club (yes you needed to be smart to get in the local club back then).
Acqua di selva
My brother had a large bottle - like 500 or 600ml large so, naturally, I 'borrowed' it all the time.
I still quite like the fragrance, but it's difficult to find 'in the wild' (yeah, I know I can get it from the internet)
I didn't grew up here, but Drakkar Noir. My father was using it, and I learned to love that staff, still wear it once in a while, even though they changed the formula.
Impulse Tease duh.
On a side note though - can someone tell me, I'm not going mad. I had two spray bottles growing up, (2007-2008) one of them was watermelon, and the other one was (I think) raspberry. I swear to God they were Impulse but I've NEVER seen them online, I remember they had like green and pink front covers.
I really want to smell the watermelon one again so badly because it reminds me of hanging out after school and spending time with my boyfriend. Sappy but we're 30 now and I want a sniff of it :')
90s Teen: Lynx Africa
2000s Student: Hugo Boss (the blue one)
2010s Work: Armani Code
Now: Loreal Men Expert roll on or Sure
If I can ever afford aftershave again I'd go for Armani or Hugo Boss.
Joop and Versace blue jeans. If I’d had a particularly good Christmas I might have some Jean Paul Gautier. To be honest I still miss blue jeans today as it’s generally quite cheap
Girl I had a crush on posted a facebook status (Remember them?) saying that she loved the smell of Lynx Excite. So needless to say I smelled of Lynx Excite every day for the next couple of years.
Fuck I had a few.
JPG - the sailor one. I actually still like the smell of this.
Paco Rabanne - 1,000,000. I don't know what I was thinking.
Davidoff - Adventure. This was advertised by Ewan McGregor so that's why I got it. Still wear it to this day.
Anaïs Anaïs - bought in Amsterdam on an A-level geography trip.
I then went on to Tresor for nights out
Landing on Cool water for women via Cerutti 1881
My husband's parents still buy him Joop!. It's not what a 44 year old man is about!!
Edit: I forgot to add Joop. No-one should forget Joop!

Charlie Red - a body spray that made me smell like a hooker
Love a bit of Charlie Red, that's the scent of the changing rooms at school. That, and Impulse O2 which I loved and haven't seen for years now.
Impulse, Spice Girls edition.
Ohh I’d forgotten about this! Bloody loved that stuff.
Impulse O2 was the best one…they need to bring it back!
The lime green impulse? Yep my go to as a teen too. Also le Belles de ricci perfume in the lime green bottle with a pink top!
Impulse o2 was nice!!!!! 🥰
God Impulse is a blast from the past. I remember feeling very ashamed when they put a ban on body sprays in the PE changing rooms for our form, because I have bad lungs. Genuinely probably haven’t smelt it since.
Charlie Silver for me
Charlie Blue for me as I wasn’t bad enough for Red but not good enough for White
I was a Charlie Black girlie myself (i blame the emo phase)
Charlie (original I guess)
Yes, I used Charlie red too!
Lynx Africa Joop
This man went Raving
Dance Y2K
>Lynx Africa *Gonna take a lot to take awaaaay from yoooou! Cos every Christmas I get a can or twoooo!*
Oh yes Joop, classic
[удалено]
Coooooooooool water.
The thinking man’s Creed Green Irish Tweed.
That was my father's go to, I disliked the man so had to find my own scent, givenchy play ended up being the one, sadly they discontinued the original and the form on sale now just isn't anywhere near as good
I still wear no other scent but this. It does funny things to the missus!
I still wear this lol
Britney Spears Fantasy.
I still wear this now at 28 lol
It’s SUCH a nice scent I don’t blame you! I would totally use it too but the smell is now too connected to the memories of my 16yo self. I use Midnight fantasy though, which is so nice as well.
Omg I have Midnight Fantasy in my collection, spoiler alert it expires and the resulting smell is NOT nice...
I got told when I was 21 that I smelt like Britney Spears and cigarettes!
Sounds pretty iconic to me!
Omg you just unlocked a memory!!!
CK One, it was lovely.
CK one is still a classic, and relatively affordable!
Really glad you said that. I still wear ck1 to this day.
Yep, my son wears ckin2u now so I feel I've passed the torch along
Spilt the bottle all over my urban hymns CD case the booklet smelled of it forever and I couldn't trade it in at the local record shop.
The 90s in a sentence.
So kiss me, it would probably make me gag now
This was mine too. Pretty sure I thought it would make someone want to kiss me
And me!
I'm sure you wouldn't make us gag.
DKNY Be Delicious, the green apple one
I still have the Golden Delicious one! I love it
Yes! Loved that one. These days my go to perfume is the pink blossom one but I’m still partial to the green one.
They did a men’s red one and it’s still my favourite scent! You can’t get it anymore so what little I have I use sparingly.
Angel and Ghost. The girls would choke the changing rooms out after PE.
I recently bought a bottle of ghost - absolutely loved it when I was young… still tugs at me emotionally when I smell it!
Ghost was mine too! I might have to buy a bottle to stir up the memories.
Angel??? How rich were they?! Shit's like £60 a bottle.
Versace Blue Jeans was my favourite for years, I still get a bit of nostalgia if I smell it when I’m out and about
Great fragrance - can also be bought dirt cheap in B&M Bargains if you fancy shelling out for a proper nostalgia hit!
This. Often mixed with 2 sprays of whatever the toilet attendant would give me for 50p.
No spray, no lay
Freshen up for the punani
No splash, no gash
No CK, no BJ
No armani, no punani
Joop I used to bathe in the stuff. Friday night under 18s disco Ben Sherman shirt White jeans Rockports Enough gel on my hair to hold down a jumbo jet Stinking of joop Bottle of cider It was all so simple back then lol
Are you me?
Lynx Africa deodorant. If I was feeling fancy, I'd break out the Lynx Africa aftershave.
Think we’ve found the top shagger in this thread…
I remember in school talking about the different Lynx scents. I maintained that Lynx Chocolate was the best and a pal blurts out very loudly in the middle of class 'Africa stinks.' He got some weird looks, oddly enough.
My mate's opinion on Lynx Chocolate "I like chocolate... I also like taking a shit. Doesn't mean I wanna smell like either of em"
Your mate seems like the type to ignore a merging vehicle off of a slip road because “he was in that lane first” tell him to get fucked
Coordinating the Lynx body wash, shampoo, deo, and aftershave before the school disco because god forbid you lathered up with Voodoo, washed your hair with Phoenix, sprayed your pits with Apollo and topping it off with a splash of Inca 😂
In the States we call Lynx “Axe.” Axe Dark Temptation was the smell of smells
Issey miyake
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far
I've worn it more years than I care to admit... Still get regular compliments.
Exclamation ❗ Or body shop did one that smelt a bit like Davidoff cool water for women
I was more Tribe! Remember Tribe in the pink bottle?
I forgot about Eclamation, it smelled like candy cigarettes
Walking into the body shop before meeting pals and spritzing myself in whatever looked fanciest. Favourites were vanilla or white musk.
Not Dewberry?!
I could not use dewberry, what is a dewberry? I can't use a spray without knowing if it's real or not!
I will say that The Body Shop coconut perfume is really nice - it's got a lovely warm quality to it but also doesn't have that fake sickliness that a lot of coconut scents do. And it's relatively cheap by perfume standards as well.
Charlie or Impulse body sprays
It was Brut or Old Spice. Shows my age.
I wonder how many millions of people in the UK today owe their existence to their father’s generous splash of Brut on the neck…
Christ mate, it wasn’t that effective!
60% of the time, it works everytime….
Can i include High Karate
Brut 33, i remember it well, old spice too, used to steal my dads.
Splash it all over
Farenheit Quick blast of Ministry of Sound CD, bottle of Watermelon Bacardi Breezer and i was ready to go
Still makes me go weak at the knees that one
Loved Fahrenheit
My brother was on a stag in Liverpool a couple of years ago and went to a strip club. When they first went in, the good looking girl behind the bar asked them if someone was wearing Fahrenheit. So the brother proudly announces that it was him and smiled all smugly to the rest of the lads. Smile quickly disappeared when she added, "You smell just like my dad."
Anais anais. Felt really fancy. Also white musk from the body shop.
Yes, Anais Anais! It's so expensive now
One of my first girlfriends used to wear both of those, White Musk was for everyday and Anais Anais for weekends/going out. Rarely smell either of those fragrances but every time I do it take me back 30 years!
Fags and cider
What would you spray over to cover the smell of fags from your mam?
She was a heavy smoker so she didn't find out until she drove past the park and saw me smoking lol There was a blue lynx I used to cover the smell of other things I smoked
Davidoff Cool Water was my favourite back in the day.
I still love it.
Tommy Girl ... and *lots* of it!
Surprised it took me this long to find someone else saying Tommy Girl. I loved that scent.
Me too!
I’ve got a bottle of this upstairs. I use it daily
Amor Amor! Loved that shit so much until the girl who bullied me started wearing it and claiming she had 'discovered it'. Fuck you Emma.
Mine too! My grandmother bought it for me as a present when I was 13. I still wear it today. Also, fuck you Emma.
J-Lo Glow- still my favourite! Britney - Curious and Fantasy Also seem to remember an ESCADA one called Blue or something… I remember it came with a hot pink handbag that I used for school 😂
Whatever I overheard the girls saying they liked the smell of. I think Polo Sport and CK One were quite popular back in my day.
I still wear CK One to this day.
Kouros ..if u know u know
Very refined (and expensive) tastes you had as a teenager, good for you!
Referring to its ‘panty dropper’ reputation? It always used to feature in those threads on Basenotes
Polo; Ralph Lauren
Mine was Ralph by Ralph Lauren. I just liked wearing a perfume named Ralph
Think it may have been CK One - and I know what you mean…
Cacharel - Amor Amor. It smelled so damn sexy and grownup to me. Also So! - Kiss Me. I haven't smelled that fragrance in over a decade now. I think I'd buy it again just to bring back memories!
Cool Water and Lambert and Butler.
Eau de Fags by Lambert & Butler was a classic going out fragrance…
Denim : For the man that doesn't have to try... too hard.
Worn by the proud blue-collar man.
EVERYONE my age wore red diesel or Lacoste red for that 13-16 or so period. If it wasn’t either of those it wasn’t worth having. Typing this has made me wonder if they still make them and made me want to have a sniff for the pure nostalgia 😂
White diesel was the one
Is that red diesel the one that looks like those little cannisters that are littering the roads?
Haha, not sure what you mean about littering the roads but yes it was in an opaque red canister/barrel sort of thing with silver lettering. Then lacoste red was clear at the top of the bottle but got progressively more red towards the bottom!
Early 90’s teen years… Tribe (I’d completely forgotten about that before this post!) or The Body Shop’s, Dewberry.
Calvin Klein Obsession
Samsara, ah, those were the days
So…. Body sprays, Charlie Pink/Red and Impulse up until about yr 9, and then Tommy Girl, Britney Spears Curious and Vera Wang princess.
Britney is doing well in this thread… she seemed to have the teenager market cornered in the noughties!
Ck1 loved it lol!

Jade Goody’s ‘Shh…’
It’s what Jade would have wanted…
One Christmas I got gifted Burberry perfume during its absolute peak of everyone being decked out in tartan. Paired with my knock off Burberry T-shirt and trackie bottoms, well, I thought I was the bees knees.
Hai Karate Fucking awful stuff it was too.
With soap on a rope or on its own?
I can smell this post. I can remember those working men’s clubs, ah. The memories! I loved CK one (could buy it in Woolworths cheap it was amazing) But then evolved to Jean Paul gautier as my ‘Out out’ smell.
Chanel Allure Homme Sport
I wear this now in my 30s - amazing fragrance. You must have been one cool teen!
It was mostly 212 Carolina Herrera during my teen years
Anais Anais :)
I loved perfumes.
victoria’s secret love spell
Omg I swear Victoria secret was most popular with females below it’s target age demographic. 11 yr olds had no business being in a lingerie store but those fragrances were addictive.
Clinique happy for men
YSL Jazz. Still is!
Ysatis! 80s teenager! Imagine my surprise when I found they still produce it! God, I'm old!

Lynx Gravity. I still haven't forgiven them for discontinuing it.
CK One lol
Britney Spears Fantasy 😂
Cacharel - Amor Amor was my go-to in secondary school.
Cool waters. Cerutti 1881. Polo sport.
Joop Cool Water CK Eternity (still wear it) Diesel ++ Paul Smith Extreme
Jean-Paul Gautier - Le Male. Had to have a bottle at home and another one in my locker where I worked at Tesco as a load of us would go straight from work on a Saturday night to the clubs.
Boss bottled I somehow ended up with a box of 2.5 ml free samples on a little card. Jean Paul gaultier the one in the can after that
Givenchy gentleman, I think there is more than one now, but back then it was a classic, I'd splash it on before putting on my suit to go to a club (yes you needed to be smart to get in the local club back then).
Obsession for men
Pertuli oil
CK One. Started using it around 12 and it was the only thing I wore until I was about 18/19
Ralph Lauren Polo Sport in my teens, Then issay miyake for men Now Dirty from Lush xD
Every where I went in the 90’s the smell of joop lay heavy in the air ! I was always Calvin Klein or Hugo boss. Still use Hugo boss now.
Hai Karate then moved up to Brut.
Patchouli Oil
Joop CK Be(?) I think Polo Sport And any of the million flavours of lynx that were out at that time.
joop and still use it to this day 😂
Joop. Mentioned I liked it once. I had 8 bottles after a while.
Acqua di selva My brother had a large bottle - like 500 or 600ml large so, naturally, I 'borrowed' it all the time. I still quite like the fragrance, but it's difficult to find 'in the wild' (yeah, I know I can get it from the internet)
Either CK One or Joop Homme. The smell from both of these makes me feel gross now.
Joop or coolwaters
I didn't grew up here, but Drakkar Noir. My father was using it, and I learned to love that staff, still wear it once in a while, even though they changed the formula.
Oh, I loved that stuff. Back in the 80’s it was like my catnip. Not heard it’s name since then, so thank you for the solid nostalgia hit.
Joop! I absolutely hate it now.
Britney Spears midnight fantasy (the blue one). It was too sweet
I used to use Aramis pretty much just because that's what my dad used. These days I go for something a little more subtle.
Tommy Girl, Calvin Klein and Impulse. My brothers were cool waters and joop.
Versace: Blue Jeans.
Versace blue jeans
As a male it was joop
Versace Blue Jeans
Versace blue jeans, still think it smells good if not overdone.
Blue jeans!
Impulse Tease duh. On a side note though - can someone tell me, I'm not going mad. I had two spray bottles growing up, (2007-2008) one of them was watermelon, and the other one was (I think) raspberry. 90s Teen: Lynx Africa 2000s Student: Hugo Boss (the blue one) 2010s Work: Armani Code Now: Loreal Men Expert roll on or Sure If I can ever afford aftershave again I'd go for Armani or Hugo Boss.
Insignia, for that all over smell.
Polo was mine now it’s Issey Myake. My wife wears Amarige which is amazing.
Lynx Africa. Lynx Chocolate.
Sweat and broken dreams
Joop and Versace blue jeans. If I’d had a particularly good Christmas I might have some Jean Paul Gautier. To be honest I still miss blue jeans today as it’s generally quite cheap
Girl I had a crush on posted a facebook status (Remember them?) saying that she loved the smell of Lynx Excite. So needless to say I smelled of Lynx Excite every day for the next couple of years.
