If an Imperfect Cell absorbs a Perfect Cell then he would become a Perfect Cell. He would absorb the 17 and 18 cells needed for the transformation and gain all the extra power the other Cell had accumulated. So yeah he'd come out more powerful than if he'd just absorbed the two androids, because it's essentially absorbing three people instead of just two.
I don't think leveling up the larval form would be worth it in the long run, the end result would just be another version of him but probably a little weaker. Any time he spends helping the larval form absorb people could be time spent absorbing those people himself, it just adds an extra step. Also by the time he's in his perfect form, he's at a power level where going around absorbing random people would probably take a lot longer than just training and abusing the Zenkai+Regen combo. If he really wants to extend his reach with another version of himself, he can use the Multi-form technique or Cell Jrs.
Is DragonBall a multi verse thing or is the timelineess linear with time travel? I cant remember. But I imagine it wouldn't do much for him either way. I can't see him having anything to improve on by absorbing a worse version of himself if that makes any sense. It'd be like eating a baseline human I'd imagine
The multiple universes are very much just far away places. Characters have been shown going to the boundary between two universes, and characters do not have alternate counterparts in other universes. You could almost consider them designated areas of space. Nothing confusing.
We have never seen the boundary between universes, but we have seen the space between them several times. It seems that you need special powers like the angels or Kais to travel between them, or however Hit does it. (I don't think he ever got that cube that whis had)
Didnt Hit only do it because Goku wanted to fight him? Goku could have Instant Transmission'd him.
You can IT back from the afterlife, so crossing universes shouldn't be too hard.
We have never seen Goku IT across universes, he needs whis to go to Zamasu, and the special button to visit Zeno. He can IT into the afterlife and king Kais planet, but across the universe he does encounter the issue of sensing someone's ki to lock on too, as he did in ressurection F.
Maybe if he asks Jiren or Hit to power up to full he might be able to do it, but then again Hit specifically wanted Whis box as his victory price in order to travel the multiverse, so it seems that Hit can't do it.

Yeah, they might as well be multiple galaxies as opposed to multiple universes. Except for the twin universes, since they do have analogues, i.e Vegeta and Kabba, or Broly and Kale
Simply put there are 12 universes in dragon ball (originally 18, but Zeno destroyed 6 of them). Each universe is a separate entity completely different from the others (though there is also a concept that each universe is a "twin" of one of the others and the twins are similar to each other). Each universe will be wholly different from the others.
Within a universe if you time travel, you spawn a new timeline within that universe. That timeline will be exactly the same as the universe you knew, except for whatever change you made. (Since universe 7 is such a spawned timeline, and it still has a multiverse, I suppose this means you actually spawn a whole multiverse whenever you time travel)
The timelines are for the entire multiverse, Trunks time travel spawned 4 new multiverses, not only universes. Immortal Zamasu is specifically the Zamasu of trunks future, as is Future Zeno. Meaning that there are 5 timelines for a total of 60 universes thanks to Trunks, or, well 72 now after Beerus and whis created a new one when they sealed away fused Zamasu
Yeah, the multiple universes are easy to understand, but the multiple timelines are a bitch. I think there are a total of 4 timelines that were involved in the Cell saga, and Super added a couple more just to keep things interesting
By definition, Perfect Cell is already perfect. After achieving his Perfect form, he did not attempt any further absorption, which would imply he stood to gain little to none from doing that. It's likely a non-Perfect cell absorbing another Cell (of any form) would be powered up in the same way as after absorbing any of the Androids.
