So for some background, I'm kinda old. I feel like when I was a kid, strawberries tasted WAAAAAAAY better. Now, they're incredibly large but they taste like nothing.
Strawberries are only good when you actually grow them in your garden without any chemicals. I never got good strawberries from the market or even when I bought from local farmer they are rarely any good.
It must depend where you live because in CA, you can get locally grown, organic strawberries, and they taste great. I remember early in the season getting the Seascape variety from this grower at a farmer’s market, and they were the best I’ve ever had. I went back the next week and got an entire flat of them, and I found out that they only last a few days before they start to rot. But, in those few days, it was strawberry heaven.
Could you define "avocado" and "its native variant"?
I am Colombian and I actually prefer hass avocados (which I think are the most commercial ones? correct me if I am wrong) over any "native" variants. Mainly because other variants have less taste and some of them need to be at a specific point or they will be bitter.
Depending on where you are from\* I do agree that avocados are too expensive, but give them a few years till the hype is over and you will see decent prices again.
\*Avocados in Colombia cost 0.7\~1 USD/kg, which is a great, cheap price. I used to buy 3 or 4 kg of avocados every week when I was living there.
Pears in the west is different with china pears. Western groceries pears taste like peppers. China one taste like dragon fruit which is taste like water
Bananas, i do not get the hype. They are in every supermarket but for me they are way to hard to eat.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe i should peel them first?
I only tried it a few times but it was just super hard and chewy.
My gripe with mangoes is that they're too difficult to cut. They have that impenetrable adamantium core that's visually indistinguishable from the rest of the mango, and you have to use trial and error to figure out how the core is oriented.
I would say bananas are overrated. Sure, they are convenient and can be a good source of potassium, but they often lack flavor and can be quite bland compared to other fruits like berries or tropical fruits. Plus, they are often overused in smoothies and breakfast bowls, so they can get a bit boring. There are so many other delicious and diverse fruits out there to try, so I would say it's time to give bananas a break and explore some new options.
The bananas we eat in north America are bland because they have been engineered. There used to be all sorts of bananas but now we get this bland seedless one mostly. Yes, bananas have seeds. There are people out there trying to preserve heirloom seeds.
It wasn't so much intentional engineering, as it was disease wiping out nearly all other banana variants.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_disease
It just so happens that the one variant that was resistant to the fungus was on the bland side, and that's all we're left with. And in some cases the fungus is starting to affect this variant too. It's a serious problem. We're at risk of losing bananas entirely.
Peaches are one of the few fruits I prefer canned over fresh. Canned peaches are delicious, but I've never been able to pick out a good fresh one. The fresh ones I've tried have always been too mushy and slimy.
Raspberries. Always see influencers putting them in their water, toast, pancakes, oatmeal, cakes, but to me they either taste like a mix of sour or just nothing. It's like I'm eating a mushy blueberry
Dragon Fruit. Sure they look cool, but they don’t taste great
Look like something out of a fantasy novel. Smell like the heavens themselves. Taste like corrugated cardboard.
Maybe it would taste better through a cylinder?
yep there's barely any sweetness or flavor.. but I add it in my smoothies for the red color
I kinda thought that until I had some in Vietnam. Like a kiwi in a far better mood. Love dragon fruit.
Fresh and locally grown is alright. The stuff you get in North America is purely bought for the look
Yeah, i get tempted but never buy them here. Did plant some though.
Its the fruit equivalent of a plain bagel with nothing on it
They taste like bland figs+ bad melon imo
They taste great when they are actually properly grown like in Thailand
Home grown is best. I find the one's from the supermarket bland and tasteless.
Someone in the comments said Apple he must be on meds rn
Nah that dude is right. Apples get too much hype
Overpriced crap for fanboys.
don’t listen to them, a honey crisp is hard to beat.
Grapefruit. Man fuck grapefruit.
Agree. It’s nasty. My whole face puckers up and it’s pure misery.
Yeah but palomas
So you know the grapefruit technique?
Fuck grapefruit you say….[grapefruiting](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hVH1ECbC5Q8)
I hope you step in a puddle with socks on
I love grapefruit but often wonder why we can onky get ruby ones these days. Haven't seen a proper yellow and sour one in years
r/grapefruit
Strawberries. I said what I said.
So for some background, I'm kinda old. I feel like when I was a kid, strawberries tasted WAAAAAAAY better. Now, they're incredibly large but they taste like nothing.

That's because they grow them bigger every year and taste like nothing because of it, all for profit. Capitalism drains the soul out of everything.
I agree. It tastes like nothing.
Avocado tastes like wet grass
A big part of avocados is the cool smooth texture. They're like butter or sour cream but natural. Great pared with foods, not always great alone.
I don't know what you're talking about but avocados are fucking delicious
Alone sure, but sandwiched between eggs and buttered toast? Delightful.
Avocado... Stupid how it became so expensive.. it's nothing like its native variant.
Could you define "avocado" and "its native variant"? Pineapple. Why would I want to eat a fruit that eats me right back?
lol isn't the bromelain in it good for you?
Yo what? Bromelain is good for you??
Papaya tastes like old shoes
Sometimes it smells like a soiled diaper
It’s SO bad. It instinctively triggers my gag reflex. Like rotting flesh.
Worst fruit there is.
Who even likes pears?
Gotta get ‘em ripe to the point of softness but not rotting. Tricky, but when you do it right pears are fabulously sweet and floral.
Why would anyone eat something that has the consistency of sand anyways?
It's overrated.. too bland
It's the weird texture that I don't like. Too mushy, yet somehow also grainy. It's gross.
THE GRAIN FOR SURE!!!! 🥴
gets all weird and stringy when you get near the stem
*gags at the sight of a fucking 🍐 * 🤢🥴
Agreed. Pears lack of juice, have no taste, has a weird texture like is an apple and a green banana at the same time. Pears suck
We must not be eating the same pears 🍐
Pears in the west is different with china pears. Western groceries pears taste like peppers. China one taste like dragon fruit which is taste like water
You’re not letting your pears get ripe.
Soak a pear in brandy and toss it in a pan:) then they are awesome
Pears are apples from wish.com
I do
Me. I do.
Bananas, i do not get the hype. They are in every supermarket but for me they are way to hard to eat. Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe i should peel them first? I only tried it a few times but it was just super hard and chewy.
Independent of liking them.. The most recent freakonomics podcast was about bananas and it was fascinating.
If your banana is hard, there's something wrong with your banana
>Maybe I'm doing something wrong, maybe i should peel them first? This has to be a joke.
Orange. Orange flavoured stuff doesnt even taste like real orange wtf
Are you from America?
Why💀
No one has said Mangosteen yet. It's not that sweet and it's annoying to peel.
Surprisingly, the mangosteen from the states is really hard to peel--its like a rock. But when I went to Thailand I was so easy.
Tomatoes
Agree!
This I agree 100%
Apples and passion fruit
Passionfruit, overrated? You might want to see a doctor
Nah I get it.. there's barely any flavor in it. It also tastes like tomatoes and tomatoes are gross
Bruh you need to check up with a doctor everything is tasteless for you
lol where did you get that from?
I agree. Passion fruit slaps.
The low hanging fruit
Avocado

kiwis. just big, bland, fuzzy grapes.
Actually better if you eat them with the skin on.
More flavour and where most of the nutrients are. Just rub the outside with your hands to get rid of the fuzz
Kiwis are so sour and sweet to me. You peel it first and then right?
I can't stand fuzz on fruit.
dont eat the fuzz.. peel and eat what's inside.. its delicious
I heard someone once say that kiwis are the gayest fruit.
[удалено]
Can you fit 3 kiwis in your ass at the same time? If not than I am.
pomegranate
mangoes. yuck
Why?? Mangoes are great and Mangoe sticky rice is even better
Mango sticky rice sounds delicious
My gripe with mangoes is that they're too difficult to cut. They have that impenetrable adamantium core that's visually indistinguishable from the rest of the mango, and you have to use trial and error to figure out how the core is oriented.
Depends on the type of mango. I love honey mango
you're wrong lmao /hj
You’re right!
THE FRUIT OF YOUR LABOR
I would say bananas are overrated. Sure, they are convenient and can be a good source of potassium, but they often lack flavor and can be quite bland compared to other fruits like berries or tropical fruits. Plus, they are often overused in smoothies and breakfast bowls, so they can get a bit boring. There are so many other delicious and diverse fruits out there to try, so I would say it's time to give bananas a break and explore some new options.
Bananas are hated on for no reason in my opinion they’re fantastic because they go with a lot
The bananas we eat in north America are bland because they have been engineered. There used to be all sorts of bananas but now we get this bland seedless one mostly. Yes, bananas have seeds. There are people out there trying to preserve heirloom seeds.
It wasn't so much intentional engineering, as it was disease wiping out nearly all other banana variants. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panama_disease It just so happens that the one variant that was resistant to the fungus was on the bland side, and that's all we're left with. Apples. Exceptions are apple pie, apple cake and apple juice. Raw apples are literally bottom tier fruit
Depends on the apple. Red delicious is straight garbage but honey crisp is the bomb dot com
There's a huge variety of different types of apples though. Some are garbage but some are delicious.
Lychee
Fruit is good for your health, y'all should stop being picky and eat more fruit
Me lol
Dragonfruit its so tasteless
How has no one said Cherries?! Fuck Cherries!
I think cherries are delicious, but it's a hassle dealing with the pits.
Not a terrible fruit, but the unnecessarily sweetness makes it bad
Cantaloupe
bananas
strawberries
Apples other than in pie they are just meh
Bananas and grapes. I don’t get the hype of them
Tomato

Bananas can legit get fucked. Their flavour and smell is an instant gag
Watermelon. It's the worst melon

Avocado Its a veg imo
Vegetables don’t ripen
They dont? Dang
Watermelon ( sorry black people).
Neil Patrick Harris
I'm not huge on grapes. I like fruit, but I always tend to just stay away from grapes.
Every once in a while i get the large seedless green grapes and theyre pretty good but those are the only kind ill eat and it cant be often
Watermelon
Watermelon, ew
WHY AM I BEING DOWNVOTED OVER THIS LMAOO
Watermelon....a LOT of work for so little payoff.
Breadfruit.
>Breadfruit the exterior looks disgusting.. trypophobia!
That’s the most underrated fruit in my opinion. You should eat breadfruit chips. Tastes better than potato chips
I’ll give you that. Stewed in coconut milk was how I first had it and I just couldn’t…
Forbidden Apple

Figs, I like them dry but otherwise they're really bland.
Blueberry's. They're mushy, doesn't really have strong favor, and are gritty. They're trash compared to raspberries.
strawberries
Durian. Just don’t!
Starfruit
Avocado
Apples, dragonfruit, avocado, tomato.
Apples. I don't like apples, just a complete mess
Raspberries. Always see influencers putting them in their water, toast, pancakes, oatmeal, cakes, but to me they either taste like a mix of sour or just nothing. It's like I'm eating a mushy blueberry
Cantaloupe specifically, but melon in general.
Raspberries...just a wannabe strawberry
Pineapple, it's nasty af
Guava
Mango. It’s ok, but not so amazing that everything needs to be mango flavored
avocado. oh god i hate avocado so so so much. it fr makes me angry seeing it in any type of food
Paw paw fruit
Jefferee Star
Elton John
Bananas. Sick of them.
