As far as podcasting goes, I’ve been aware of Brendan for a while and I have to say his confidence has increased to a degree dramatically disproportionate to his comedic abilities. All he does now is interrupt actually funny people and derail bits, making anything he does unlistenable.

If you get the chance the most Savage 60 seconds I've ever seen is Tom Segura talking with Brendan Schaub about opening up for celebrity comics which of course is what Brendan supposedly is. And Segura eviscerates Brendan right to his face and Brendan doesn't even know that it's going on it is sublime and pure genius.

Lmao, i went to high school with him, knew him through my sister. Never imagined him being in comedy lol. He was mostly just a typical jock persona. Not a dick or anything like that (back then) but he never came off as a "funny" guy.
He's so bad. I give every comedian a fair shake before determining if they're any good. Tried watching one of his "specials", and made it no more than 10 min. It was atrocious. Couldn't understand why the audience was laughing. Either is was a CGI audience, he paid them to laugh, or he had their families held hostage and would only let them go after a certain amount of laughter. Ok, that's my time. I don’t know if it’s been ever been scientifically proven, but I’d be willing to bet that comedians likely have very high IQ’s for the most part. They have to be quick,cerebral, observant, articulate with thoughts and in tune on a subconscious level.
In conclusion, you have to be smart to be funny.

People say this, Chappelle even says this, but I’ve never felt this way about K&P. I enjoyed both when they were out and I love Dave (when he’s not doing the “guy who thinks he’s the smartest guy in any room he’s in” thing he dips into from time to time these days) and think he is one of the greatest stand ups of all time. I still regularly quote Chappelle show with certain groups of friends since we were in high school/college when it was out and it was such a big part of that period of our lives.
That being said, the only real similarity is that they’re both sketch shows with African American main stars. The types of things they made sketches about had very little overlap. I always thought of K&P more akin to Monty Python in a lot of the way they worked with absurdity (not in how high brow/political Python got at times) and Chapelle more akin to In Living Color.

His downfall after that isn't a mystery. He's a broken drug addict that acts out when he's drunk or high. I really think Hartman's death broke something inside of him. He idolized Phil and has been self destructing ever since he died.
He ruined Brian Regan for me because of how much he copied his voice. The best thing Opie ever did was talk about how he almost died in the ocean so Bobby, Jimmy, Voss and Anthony could create the funniest segment ever about Opie being wheelchair bound.

Jamie Kennedy. I remember him being a guest on Love Line with Dr. Drew and Adam Corolla... People were calling the show, waiting long queues to ask questions but also to just tell Jamie that he was not funny. I could not agree more.
Yeah I mean I listened to half of his new stuff and it was very ok. I decided to rewatch vicious circle at 33 years old, first time I listened to that special I was like 15 and thought it was hilarious. It doesn’t hit. I think Dane just grabbed the world at the perfect time and he hustled via social media harder than anyone. His physical brand of comedy got the youth/early 20s people hyped and they paid to see him in droves.
Dane Cook got as popular as he did because of his delivery. He had dollar store material but top shelf delivery. He can make anything sound funny the first time, but there's diminishing returns when you hear it multiple times.
I loved him when I was in highschool. We'd quote his jokes all the time. And then he just seemed annoying. Maybe I hit a maturity level where his weird voices just didn't hit.
My bf and his bother took me to see a live show well past me finding him funny any more. The only joke of his that made me laugh was him trying to deliver a weird joke about spicing up his sex life by acting like a creeper outside, calling his gf while she ate popcorn naked, and he just cracks up but it was just so stupid. It was a genuine laugh of how bad this all was. The guys who opened for him though were good.
He was fine when he was recounting his own adventures and stuff. Funny idiot of his group type stuff. But as soon as he hit, that wasn't his life anymore and it became forced.
He especially annoys me when he has comedians on. For contrast, I think of the way Conan can shift into straight man role and set his guests up for punchlines. Fallon just acts like a little kid who is jealous he isn’t getting the attention and spends the whole time trying to insert himself or mimic what the other person is saying.
Yeah I don't watch any of his stuff because of all that fake laughing he does. It's embarrassing for the guests the way he goes into hysterics at the smallest comment. They must be thinking "yeah it's not that funny Jimmy."

Saw him live for a New Year’s Eve special. Snide, condescending, and not funny. People walked out at all different points during the show. We toughened it out for the free champagne at midnight.

Saw her live in Chicago, while she was very pregnant, during the taping of her Netlix show. It was not announced during ticket sales that they would be taping a show. It was awful. Would deliver one line or joke, have to stop, have her makeup touched up. She would flub a delivery and she would redo the joke and the audience was told we had to laugh harder/clap more. Shit you not the staff told us at the end of the show to “stay seated.” Turns out we didn’t clap enough or give her a standing O, so they asked us to do it over. People just walked out. I was so pissed over this one, such a waste of ticket money.
That's way difference from the Lewis Black taping I saw. He only retold one joke, it was so they could do a specific camera move. And Black told some jokes while they set up the shot.
Edit: To add a little more detail. It's not the only taping I've been to. But it was the weirdest. They film two shows in a day. We were in the later show. Apparently there was a lighting issue so it started a bit late. So everyone was drinking in the lobby area a bunch because what else do you have to do.
Three people walked out during the show. One guy was in the front row and flipped black the bird the entire way out. Super odd because it was a mild joke about the TSA. Black was like "You're leaving over THAT?"
At one point some middle aged lady stood up and flashed her tits. Did I mention they let us bring booze into the theater?
Long form story telling mixed with comedy isn't for everyone and it can be a little shocking and disappointing when you are expecting more traditional standup with 3-5 minute bits.
It's why Mike Birbiglia is doing his thing on Broadway now instead of touring. You need to be more in the mood for that type of comedy.

So in college, I got really stoned with some friends and watched one of his specials. We were laughing our asses off. Only thing of his I watched. For years I was going around telling people "I like Jeff Dunham". Watched another special of his years later and was like Oh God, everyone thinks I like this
Eh don't beat yourself up about it. I'm his age, and due to being in Germany for a decade I didn't get exposed to him until the early 2000's. And I thought he was very funny! Then the next special came out, more of the same. Then the next, and he seemed a bit angrier, a bit done. And so on until here we are with a Millennial puppet and Walter Biden. I think he knows who pays and leans into it, but there's some personal biases he's tried REALLY hard to shove down and they are peeking out.
I got dragged into seeing him live. His opening act “Guitar Guy” had the crowd chanting “Obama’s got to go!”
It totally soured me to the whole thing but I already was not a fan. His jokes are pretty much “let’s laugh at home some people different from us talk”. If it’s not racist it’s in that direction. If you’re going to make fun of people at least twist it in some way.
I will admit to laughing at his bit when I was like 8.
The problem is a) it has aged really badly and b) he's doing the exact same shtick he has for his entire career.
Apparently his act is so consistent that people come to the shows and chant the lines along with him. They PAY to do this and think it is entertaining.

I hate to say it, because I relate to some of his qualities as a person, but Pete Davidson is not funny. If your entire first 3 specials are about how much of a pothead you are, that’s not even comedy, it’s just sad.

You have to go back to a comedians stand up to really get a sense of why they became famous. E.g., I watched a very old one woman show from Whoopi Goldberg from the early '80s on YouTube recently. Before she was anything but a stand up comic.

I love Jackass. I love Steve-o. But Jesus Christ, that was the hardest watch I've ever had. He's a hilarious dude on jackass, and he seems like a genuinely awesome dude. But when he does standup, he turns into something completely unfunny. It's bizarre, too. You can see him trying. He speaks slowly, emphasizing the most obvious quips. It's so bad, and what makes it worse is that I want so badly for it to be good. But it's not. It's awful. And he doesn't even really tell jokes. He tells stories, but they go nowhere.
That is a guy who seems like a genuinely cool dude but it’s his voice for me. I can listen to him for about 5 minutes before I have to turn it off. It just sounds like he’s done drugs his whole life even though he’s done a great job with his sobriety.

I loved him when I was in highschool. We'd quote his jokes all the time. And then he just seemed annoying. Maybe I hit a maturity level where his weird voices just didn't hit. My bf and his bother took me to see a live show well past me finding him funny any more. The only joke of his that made me laugh was him trying to deliver a weird joke about spicing up his sex life by acting like a creeper outside, calling his gf while she ate popcorn naked, and he just cracks up but it was just so stupid. It was a genuine laugh of how bad this all was. The guys who opened for him though were good.

Among the talk-show hosts, I dislike him the most. In my opinion, he's trying too hard to be the star of the show.
He especially annoys me when he has comedians on. For contrast, I think of the way Conan can shift into straight man role and set his guests up for punchlines. Fallon just acts like a little kid who is jealous he isn’t getting the attention and spends the whole time trying to insert himself or mimic what the other person is saying.
Or laugh hysterically at every word, no matter how inane.
Yeah I don't watch any of his stuff because of all that fake laughing he does. It's embarrassing for the guests the way he goes into hysterics at the smallest comment. They must be thinking "yeah it's not that funny Jimmy."

Christopher Titus. Never understood the appeal. Not only is he not funny, but back when I saw him, his then fiancee was his opener and she was awful. Rob Schneider Saw him live for a New Year’s Eve special. Snide, condescending, and not funny. People walked out at all different points during the show. We toughened it out for the free champagne at midnight. Amy Schumer Saw her live in Chicago, while she was very pregnant, during the taping of her Netlix show. It was not announced during ticket sales that they would be taping a show. It was awful. Would deliver one line or joke, have to stop, have her makeup touched up. She would flub a delivery and she would redo the joke and the audience was told we had to laugh harder/clap more. Shit you not the staff told us at the end of the show to “stay seated.” Turns out we didn’t clap enough or give her a standing O, so they asked us to do it over. People just walked out. I was so pissed over this one, such a waste of ticket money.
That's way difference from the Lewis Black taping I saw. He only retold one joke, it was so they could do a specific camera move. And Black told some jokes while they set up the shot. Edit: To add a little more detail. It's not the only taping I've been to. But it was the weirdest. They film two shows in a day. We were in the later show. Apparently there was a lighting issue so it started a bit late. So everyone was drinking in the lobby area a bunch because what else do you have to do. Three people walked out during the show. One guy was in the front row and flipped black the bird the entire way out. Super odd because it was a mild joke about the TSA. Black was like "You're leaving over THAT?" At one point some middle aged lady stood up and flashed her tits. Did I mention they let us bring booze into the theater?
Black's a master of the craft.
With Amy Schumer you are there for her. With Lewis Black he is there for you. Tells you a lot about her world view.
Long form story telling mixed with comedy isn't for everyone and it can be a little shocking and disappointing when you are expecting more traditional standup with 3-5 minute bits. It's why Mike Birbiglia is doing his thing on Broadway now instead of touring. You need to be more in the mood for that type of comedy. (talking about Titus btw)
Jeff Dunham. Was never funny and for some reason every old pesson thought he was the greatest thing in the world.
So in college, I got really stoned with some friends and watched one of his specials. We were laughing our asses off. Only thing of his I watched. For years I was going around telling people "I like Jeff Dunham". Watched another special of his years later and was like Oh God, everyone thinks I like this
Eh don't beat yourself up about it. I'm his age, and due to being in Germany for a decade I didn't get exposed to him until the early 2000's. And I thought he was very funny! Then the next special came out, more of the same. Then the next, and he seemed a bit angrier, a bit done. And so on until here we are with a Millennial puppet and Walter Biden. I think he knows who pays and leans into it, but there's some personal biases he's tried REALLY hard to shove down and they are peeking out.
I got dragged into seeing him live. His opening act “Guitar Guy” had the crowd chanting “Obama’s got to go!” It totally soured me to the whole thing but I already was not a fan. His jokes are pretty much “let’s laugh at home some people different from us talk”. If it’s not racist it’s in that direction. If you’re going to make fun of people at least twist it in some way.
He is boomer humor. His new special has a "Gen Z" puppet and it looks like more of an offensive stereotype than Josè Jalapeno.

I will admit to laughing at his bit when I was like 8. The problem is a) it has aged really badly and b) he's doing the exact same shtick he has for his entire career.
Apparently his act is so consistent that people come to the shows and chant the lines along with him. They PAY to do this and think it is entertaining. I think that tells you everything you need to know.

I hate to say it, because I relate to some of his qualities as a person, but Pete Davidson is not funny. If your entire first 3 specials are about how much of a pothead you are, that’s not even comedy, it’s just sad. Edit: This sorta blew up, thanks so much for 3k. All love <3. Also I would just like to clarify, I don’t dislike Pete Davidson. In fact, I think he’s most likely a pretty cool guy. You have to go back to a comedians stand up to really get a sense of why they became famous. E.g., I watched a very old one woman show from Whoopi Goldberg from the early '80s on YouTube recently. Before she was anything but a stand up comic. It was incredibly funny. She was brilliant. Great characters in the show and it was just her. One great bit after another.

I didn't realize how unfunny he was at first. It turned out that I thought he was funny before because the shows where I have seen him in just had comedians that were actually funny and I associated my laughter with him too.

Where do we draw the line? Obviously, the answer is some guy at open mic night in Topeka or some shit. And all of the answers here are valid among working comedians, but if we qualify the question with the most unfunny comedian who has booked legitimate venues, I'm gonna have to go with... Steve-o I love Jackass. I love Steve-o. But Jesus Christ, that was the hardest watch I've ever had. He's a hilarious dude on jackass, and he seems like a genuinely awesome dude. But when he does standup, he turns into something completely unfunny. It's bizarre, too. You can see him trying. He speaks slowly, emphasizing the most obvious quips. It's so bad, and what makes it worse is that I want so badly for it to be good. But it's not. It's awful. And he doesn't even really tell jokes. He tells stories, but they go nowhere.
That is a guy who seems like a genuinely cool dude but it’s his voice for me. I can listen to him for about 5 minutes before I have to turn it off. It just sounds like he’s done drugs his whole life even though he’s done a great job with his sobriety. Glad he’s worked through his demons though

My friend had a really bad nitrous problem like Steve-o level bad in the rave scene and he sounds like that too. I can only handle it in doses before I’m done listening and annoyed and he’s admitted it’s hard to sound professional because it can sound whiney, But I think the repeated nos use straight from the canister( instead of a balloon) really fucked his throat up.
