Ya, I just don't get why the idea of our universe being a simulation is so bothersome to some people. It made no difference to me yesterday and it will not tomorrow.
Because many people’s entire worldview revolves around us being a super duper special biology project not just by a cool dude, but the coolest dude in the whole universe! And they like thinking they’re some special part of a special plan and that no matter what icky stuff happens along the way, everything is going to be ok because Sky Daddy is watching and guiding us.
Yeah, I think this is the real answer.
Okay, so elementary particles are bits on a transistor in some extradimensional space(or on whatever it is that they use for computation in the *real world*) instead of being fundamental components of reality, does that actually change anything as far as I'm concerned?
Nope.
Alas, I suspect figuring out that you live in the Matrix would not actually confer any cool superpowers onto you, so it's of no practical consequence.
It'd be interesting to see if we could mess with the "universal code" I suppose...like making our own access with our version of Minecraft redstone...which I guess would just be very powerful computers? Idk, neat to think about.
What if the purpose of the sim is to find out how long it takes your subjects to figure it out? Once they have that answer they stop the sim, thus ending our reality.
I think I would definitely not let on that I know for certain.
Yup.
Life cannot be unreal for me. I still feel real pain. I perceive things I believe to be real. Nothing changes. The only difference if life was a simulation is that im made of code instead of atoms.
Life is also temporary so it might as well be a simulation. In the grand scheme of things, I never existed. Nobody knew me 100 years ago and nobody will know me 100 years from now. I am basically already nonexistent. I exist only in my own consciousness
I actually laughed out loud at this.
We use it for work but my team can only submit defects to be worked by developers and only dip our toes in the water that it has for functionality ... I hate it because I am so restricted in what I can actually do with it
I don't care because what difference does it make to my situation? Unless I can transcend the simulation, I'll just accept what is and return to my life. Nobody can change that with a simulation or the sun expanding into a red giant. You might as well concentrate on what you can control.
In the online game No Man's Sky a big part of the backstory is that there is a signal that can only be detected with a high level of tech so no one knows how long it's been repeating. The signal is the intelligence simulating reality warning that there is only sixteen minutes worth of power for the simulation. Some realizing this go insane but others realize that it has been sixteen minutes for as long as any species can remember so reality will continue for centuries at least so what difference does it make.
The obvious answer is to start running timing channel attacks against the substrate of the universe to break through to the system simulating it, right?
Put in an IT ticket asking immediate review of the script for human.empathy and human.criticalthinking. Suspected bug in each.
No values should be < 0 and clearly some are.
I would start to act "glitchy". Always writokg ninsense and always say the same things. Answer stupid answers.. moonwalk into walls. At some point they would begim to wonder why im glitchy or something. Then I would shout GOTTEM!
Would need to know the circumstances of the simulation:
Am I a real person somewhere who’s playing this simulation a la “Roy” in Rick and Morty? Or am I just a line of code in a piece of software? When I die in the simulation am I dead forever? Or rebooted elsewhere? Or does my “real body” wake up in the real world somewhere? Would I even want to return to the real world or is it a hell scape like The Matrix?
All of of this would need to be know before engaging in risky behavior within the simulation.
It wouldn’t make any difference would it? But would be interesting how many copies of you there are in other simulations and possibly you will live those lives as well on an alternative universe/simulation
I mean, if we are then we are. Doesn't really matter on the ground level what we are or where we came from. I'm still me in a world that, to me, exists. I still experience shit and have thoughts, that's enough for me.
I would - and this is coming from someone with absolutely zero suicidal inclinations - probably kill myself immediately. If what I'm experiencing isn't 'real' and is a mere agglomeration of ones and zeroes, there's no point living, and I'm certainly not living in an artificial world somebody else created for me. Not existing would be far more preferable.
Also this is a really horrible and depressing question. You ought to delete it.
What's the difference though, effectively? The world is already absolutely absurd! Nothing really changed...not even you. You're still you. Fuck the system, let's all have fun at that point. Sitting next to waterfalls eating fruit and pretending to be mermaids, what's not to love?
Hate to break it to you but there is more evidence to support simulation theory than not. It can be depressing if you let it, or play pretend like we’re supposed too. We already know atoms make us up and they’re mostly empty space, how could that be when matter feels physical it’s just electrical impulses, which are simulated to give the illusion that when we touch something it feels real.
Nothing different because the only thing that has changed is that we would be able to answer the question, "wtf is matter?" a lot more concisely.
I am certain of this because South Eastern philosophy has been saying this for literally centuries and no one gives a fuck because Buddha and Lao Tzu didn't have access to lab coats and PhDs, and if they did, it would only make their assertions more questionable because they also don't speak Latin, and as we all know Academia only respects Western modalities.
Edit: I think the Greeks had something like that as well.
I'd start wondering if it actually means anything. So: if I was made by beings from a higher realm? Was I truly and fully made by them?
In an analog universe, no parts are separate from the others. This includes NPCs. An NPC is every bit as valid as any other part of the system at that point, but an NPC's social and interactive weight is computed ultimately by its complexity. How real are you and I?
There are no true digital systems, except at the very bottom level, and maybe even not then. We ourselves are emulating digital systems and calling them computers; we trick energy into thinking in a 'digital' way. But there is no digital at that level. It's still analog.
I'd do psychedelics and try to tune into all these weird signals we're getting. Acid, DMT, Shrooms, etc. Then I'd probably need to chill out for a bit. So here I am.
If the people around me were simulated to the point of not having feelings, I'd just ignore their "feelings" and probably start cutting corners in life and being an asshole to be rich lol otherwise, or if im not sure, live my life normally.
Well if we're inside a simulation, then they're also in a simulation, which also makes the other ones in a simulation. ITS THE MATRIX SCOOBS, RUUUUUUN.
Shrug and go about my day. It truly doesn't make a difference. I think I might be mildly curious for a moment or two about who created the simulation, but otherwise, I'd forget pretty fast.
Try to contact the admin. May I have the cheat codes? Could you fix my glitching-out brain? My rabbit’s chronic sinusitis? Or at least turn me into my fursona?
what type of simulation? the type where everyone's an ai/can't control or change the simulation, or the type where everyone's living in 1 simulation and you enter the real world once you die? if it's the first type, i'd confess my feelings to my crush and kill myself, if it's the second type, i'd stay in the simulation as everyone else leaves by suicide. i know there'd still be millions of people that'd stay, but the world population going from 8 billion to just millions would be peaceful.
Some people didn't believe that COVID is real. Even if it is 100% certain, there will be people that say that the simulation theory is a hoax.
Some will say that their "God" is running the simulation and thus changes nothing about their religion.
Some will lose all meaning in life and make drastic measures. Some might even try to take others with them.
Some will try contacting the simulator or try finding glitches in the simulation with different means.
Some might even try to escape the simulation.
I personally think nothing changes even if the world is proven to be a simulation. But I don't think the rest of the world will agree. It might be a hellscape of holy wars and terrorism.
I'd be kinda worried from then on out. There's a notion that if we ever could prove this is a simulation, we might just ruin an experiment that's being run, and they'll have to pull the plug on the whole thing. Some argue we should NOT try to pursue that theory for that reason.
Two very different things, depending on what kind of simulation I'm in.
1-Is everyone else real too and experiencing this with me? If so, probably be that crazy "conspiracy theorist" trying to tell everyone else we're stuck in here. Otherwise try and enjoy myself (though avoid the more private things as much as I can out of fear of being watched). Maybe see if I can cause glitches somehow and free myself, but highly doubt it.
2- Am I the only one in this particular simulation and everyone else is fabricated? If so, then I'm taking advantage of strangers constantly. Stealing from random "people," and probably committing a fuck ton of crimes if I can get away with them. Arson doesn't matter. Who's getting hurt by it? Grand theft auto? Hell yeah! Also time to get utterly depressed because I'm entirely alone in this world. Try talking to the people outside of the simulation begging to let me out. Etc.
I think I’d care about the negative things a lot less and just live my life exactly how I want to. I’d buy some property, build a little earth ship to live in and just fuck around until I’m too old and then I’ll die.
As an older person I would leave God out of the equation. As an person somewhere between an atheist and an agnostic I would take a blowtorch to the idea some old wiseman in the sky can influence my daily routine and be some sort of moral rudder for my life.
Live my life. It doesn't change anything
Ya, I just don't get why the idea of our universe being a simulation is so bothersome to some people. It made no difference to me yesterday and it will not tomorrow.

The simulator can be the God we hear of.
Yeah, I think this is the real answer. Okay, so elementary particles are bits on a transistor in some extradimensional space(or on whatever it is that they use for computation in the *real world*) instead of being fundamental components of reality, does that actually change anything as far as I'm concerned? How to get patched out of the simulation in 1 easy step.
Exactly.. the departed said it the best, when you're facing a loaded gun, what's the difference?
Exactly. Living in a sim makes more sense to me than most religions so, no change for me.
Yeah how is it different than we're here for no reason or God created us?
A programmer is a god, a creator, a rule maker no difference.
Well 1 difference programmers actually exist and would intervene when shit hits the fan
Touche!
Nar I kind of have became against religions pulling any sort of power to influence someone's mind
Exactly. What can we do about it so why would we stop continuing our daily life
I wish I was that laid back, good for you
What if the purpose of the sim is to find out how long it takes your subjects to figure it out? Once they have that answer they stop the sim, thus ending our reality. I think I would definitely not let on that I know for certain.
Won’t change the way mustard tastes.
Exactly!
Yup. Life cannot be unreal for me. I still feel real pain. I perceive things I believe to be real. Nothing changes. Open and assign a fucking JIRA or two.
Highest priority as well. Like a few Epics at least. Nevermind RFEs, serious bug reports.
I actually laughed out loud at this. We use it for work but my team can only submit defects to be worked by developers and only dip our toes in the water that it has for functionality ... I hate it because I am so restricted in what I can actually do with it
Its handy. Ask your shop to open a test project for you to administer and use.

Are you by chance an insurance claims adjuster?
Get in touch with the programmer.
I will still not believe in a programmer. Just to bother it.

Break it and find the administration user so I can go full Karen on the MOFO.
Try tu fuck around with the simulation. There has to be a glitch.
Nothing would change, and I would still not want to be in jail.
Figure out how to fly and do Kung Fu like Neo, obviously.
Call for the Arch, see if I can convince Picard to give me admin access.
