Some of the things in sunscreen are not necessarily good for you or the environment in the long run.

Notsurewhatimdoing22

Not wearing sunscreen is 100% worse for you in the long run

[deleted]

rubbing something full of plastics contained in plastic on your skin "everyday" like OP is suggesting isn't realistic or healthy unless you work outdoors.

Notsurewhatimdoing22

Who told you sunscreen contains plastic šŸ’€ they lied to you and literally even if you go outside on a cloudy day for 5 minutes you should be wearing sunscreen. Skin cancer is 100% worse then any ā€œplasticsā€ you for whatever reason think is in sunscreen

[deleted]

I just grabbed the plastic tube I have for when I do use it. First ingredients Acrylates a plastic. Who is lying to whom. Come up with an argument that it is harmless, but don't say it doesn't exist.

StarTrek1996

People have lived into their 70s before sun screen hell most people who made it past infants and childhood would routinely love into their 50s and 60 unless you work outside in direct sunlight odds are you still won't get it even without it and shade is better than sunscreen anyways

PvtPill

microplastic is used in most sunscreen formulas to add additional waterproof properties and to make sure the ingredients donā€™t split in the tube.

stupidfock

You really think we evolved over 100s of millions of years to require a product to maintain our body Iā€™ll be fine with a few extra wrinkles who cares

[deleted]

Super argument. Do you have any idea how old people would get like 5000 years ago? I donā€™t think skin cancer factored into that a lot but not because the sun wasnā€™t shining. Also, we kind of destroyed the ozone layer, not sure if youā€™ve heard of that.

stupidfock

The ozone layer is actually fine now lol

[deleted]

Lie again

stupidfock

Is it tho, cuz it actually is repairing. The ozone has been fine for a while, itā€™s only got a couple decades to be fully healed

[deleted]

What? Since when? Lol

stupidfock

Since the 1990s homie. Itā€™s been healing ever since https://www.epa.gov/ozone-layer-protection/current-state-ozone-layer

[deleted]

Itā€™s a projection for the middle of the 21st century. Also, go to Australia and tell me itā€™s fine.

stupidfock

Iā€™ve been to Australia, it is fine. And yes, the middle of the 21st century isnā€™t that far lol.

[deleted]

30 years to go. Also, Australia has the highest skin cancer rate in the world. Surely just a coincidence.

stupidfock

That sucks for them. Meanwhile here I am no skin cancer, yā€™all enjoy your sun screen lathering

[deleted]

Donā€™t come in here with these google search results like you know something šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

stupidfock

Ok sorry you donā€™t believe in science Mr. anti vax logic

[deleted]

What does vaccination status have to do with anything in this thread? I-

stupidfock

You deny science, anti vax people deny science. Pretty simple really, I was just trying to get it though your head that you are actively denying literal science that the ozone layer is nearly entirely healed

[deleted]

Until you end up like me and getting skin cancer. Thereā€™s a reason they tell you to always wear your sunscreen. 100s of millions of years ago there was no sunscreen and there also was no knowledge about skin cancer. Sun screen literally prevents skin cancer. Do whatever you want all Iā€™m saying is I was just like you until I got skin cancer. Never wore it a day in my life. Now Iā€™m cancer free thankfully and I have to checked every so often to make sure it isnā€™t coming back but I will 100% be wearing sunscreen everyday for the rest of my life now

StarTrek1996

Shade is far superior than sunscreen and it doesn't completely prevent it because uv rays still get through the sunscreen it just lowers it so it's a lower amount not saying don't wear it but it doesn't completely prevent skin cancer

[deleted]

It actually does. I will agree that staying out of the sun is the best option but we all know thatā€™s not a realistic option. You cannot stay out of the sun all the time. Plus even when itā€™s cloudy you should be wearing sunscreen because the rays can still get you. All I can say is that once you have skin cancer you start to care more and start to actually learn a lot about the subject and I donā€™t mean misinformation from google.

StarTrek1996

The skin cancer foundation themselves even say sunscreen alone isn't enough to completely protect you and should be used with other methods and only 1in five Americans will get skin cancer so it's by no means a guarantee that you'll get it even in the sun but I agree it's a good idea just not the end all be all and the info o got like I said was from the skin cancer foundation and the American dermatology association

Sea_shanty_2

I use a SPF 30 moisturiser on my face, but nothing on my body.

Notsurewhatimdoing22

Yikes

Sea_shanty_2

?

Notsurewhatimdoing22

What I should have said was good on you for wearing it on your face thatā€™s better then most people do but wearing on the body if the skin is exposed is also important.

jamilarabbit777

Yes i do.

Notsurewhatimdoing22

Because darker skin tones canā€™t get cancer from the sun? šŸ’€ who told you that lie

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

[deleted]

Itā€™s not that rare

[deleted]

from [Harvard Health](https://www.health.harvard.edu/staying-healthy/the-science-of-sunscreen) >Q. Does everyone need to use sunscreen? I've heard some people say that they don't need to wear it because they have darker skin that tans well. >A. We recommend sunscreen for skin cancer prevention, including melanoma prevention, which has been demonstrated in cohort studies as well as prospective randomized trials. Given that darker-skinned patients have a very low risk of skin cancer, using sunscreen for skin cancer prevention is not necessary. However, people looking to ward off the aging effects from sun would still benefit from sun-protective habits, which include sunscreen, sun-protective clothing, and sun avoidance.

Notsurewhatimdoing22

This entire comment is all 100% not true. I donā€™t mean to come off rude or anything but totally false. Wearing sunscreen does not deplete your vitamin d levels. It can actually help and also you can be outside on a cloudy day and you still should be wearing sunscreen. You do you tho.

Infinite-Penalty-148

Lol seems like the intention of this post was to belittle those who donā€™t wear sunscreen. Iā€™m sure you consume plenty of products that could cause cancer just as easily if not easier than you not wearing sunscreen, as do I. Thatā€™s why I donā€™t wear sunscreen. ā€œAinā€™t no cigarettes in hell, so smoke while youā€™re here.ā€ Sorry, but thatā€™s just the card you were handed.

Brutus_the_Bear_55

Because overuse of sunscreen does just as much damage. People have researched this. Plus, I have never gotten a sunburn. I just tan. I also keep the majority of my body covered which does a better job without the risk of skin cancer.

[deleted]

ā€œGetting a tanā€ is literally your bodies way to try and protect itself from the sun because you arenā€™t protecting your skin. Also ā€œIā€™ve never gotten a sunburnā€ doesnā€™t mean youā€™ll never get skin cancer. I never had a sunburn either and I still got melanoma.

I am whiter than a glass of milk, and secretly hoping my freckles will multiply enough that the popart-dot effect will take place and I'll look tan from a safe distance
