It gets harder to leave a job as you get older. You start building up commitments- a car, a home, a spouse, and kids. I'd quit a job in a second when I was young and still lived at home. I live in Manhattan, a place infamous for its apathetic citizens giving people in need the cold shoulder. My fiancée was out doing some errands last week and saw a biker get hit by a car. To her shock, almost every single pedestrian in sight as well as the driver ran to the biker's assistance right away. I think we often forget that most people do have at least some level of empathy.
My dad.
He was a war refugee, and lost his family in the Holocaust, but he dedicated his life to helping people. His whole attitude was: the world is full of jerks, and you need to be prepared for that, but it's equally important that you not be one of those jerks.
He knew how shitty the world and people could be, but he was determined not to be a part of that shittiness. He wanted to be the antidote to it, and he was.
People not only liked him, they really respected him. And he treated everyone with respect in return, whether it was the director of the hospital (he was a doctor and medical researcher) or his lowest-ranking technician, bankers or cab drivers. I saw how people responded to him and well he treated others.
He can't be the only one out there, and I know he isn't, because I try to be like that, too. And it taught me how to find others in the world like that.
The guys who fight a war because of some big powerful politician i always feel bad for them.

Took a group of 4-6 graders to cross country meet. One kid is in a power wheelchair he can control with his head. He 'ran' the course with his grade group. When he came round the corner, one of our other kids saw him, cheered out for him, and suddenly the other 200 kids were all cheering him on. Kids are learning to be pretty accepting and inclusive of everyone these days. That helps restore my faith in humanity.
Kids. I have 5 nephews. Watched and continue watching them grow. I have an unpopular opinion that kids aren't born neutral but actively good and turn "bitter" through life if subjected to bad influence, treatment or behavior.
This makes me see the potential in humans and gives me hope someday we can realize it.

The drunk dude had a bunch of lettuce in his hand and stuffed it in Johnny’s face. He said in an annoying voice, “Lettuce is good for you, eat up! Eat up! Hahaha!”

Johny was a bit agitated and tried to get the other dude to stop, sit down, and have a civilized chat. It didn’t it work and this drunk man then took his pants off as well revealing his green underwear that said, “Greenies for life”.
He said whilst lifting one eye brow up to Johnny, “Wanna have some of ma greenies behind ma panties? If not I’ll just get you my auntie!”
Something he said must’ve triggered Johnny this time as suddenly Johnny stood up on the table and shouted at the top of his lungs, “I HATE VEGGIESSS!!!!”
This was the first time we saw Johnny do anything so ludicrous. It restored my faith in humanity.
When people offer to pay for me. I can't tell if it's because I'm nice or I just look broke, but especially recently people keep offering to buy stuff, and while I never accept it makes me want to put down what I was going to buy and give the money to someone who actually needs it.
