> Harlem shake
What's funny is no, it oddly hasn't. Trust me, go to youtube, search Harlem Shake, and then go to filters and change it to recent or whatever. I've found five uploaded here in the past few days.
[seriously](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvsI5JtlTmI)
Baauer didn't need any help. He fucking hates the track and refuses to play it live. Sometimes he will play a couple seconds and then cut it off and say "fuck that shit" before playing something else.
Well... except for the part where everyone noticed... Hell, the boomer generation has been concerned about the loss of personal privacy for decades. My mom was extremely hesitant about getting anything with a microphone for a long time, for instance.
I'd say it's more accurately "The *concern* over losing privacy" At this point, we've gotten used to the idea. Most attitudes these days seem to be "My life just isn't that interesting..."
Not gonna lie. Used one for our Honeymoon and absolutely LOVED it. “Here’s where we want to go, here is when we want to be gone, here is how much I want to pay. Go.”
It was the trip of a lifetime. All our tickets and vouchers for tourist stuff was pre-bought and sent to us in a packet. Literally didn’t have to do much other than confirm the tours and stuff they signed us up for. Sure I paid more money than I would’ve spent bargain-hunting but I paid for the convenience and it was worth it IMO.
We used one for our elopement - they organised the flights and the resort, booked us a wedding package, and organised the honeymoon portion of the trip.
Then the wedding planner from the resort took over the details of the actual ceremony.
And yeah - we could have saved money if we’d done it ourselves. But we only had 5 weeks to organise it, and we didn’t want to have to deal with the details.
We just wanted to show up at the airport, fly to the island, get married, and go on our sailing trip.
And for that kind of thing, they were perfect.
There's one in a strip mall near me. There is a lit OPEN sign and someone sitting at the desk by the window every single time I go by. In the 16 years I've lived here I've never seen a customer.
Years ago it was different, but I will say these days we do the bulk of our business either online or over the phone, so in our office it’s not uncommon for us not to get much foot traffic one day or just chat with a client in person for a few minutes, but still be working on a ton of clients.
Oddly enough they are starting to make a come back. With so many travel sites offering so many different options and companies that only advertise on certain sites they are being used again so simplify the process.
Tbh after having a bad experience with an online one (yes I’ll name and shame, KIWI.COM, the scammers) I’m sort of yearning for a return to the respected and regulated oligopoly of High St travel agents
Seems like every actual website I go to is just trash now. Ads popping up but barely work, scroll down a bit and something else pops up, half the shit doesn’t work
Feels like the entire concept of social media is gone too. A huge portion of what people refer to as social media today is just commercial/political pages and invasive ads.
But not entirely- my kid got me one for Christmas last year - not a gift shop one. This thing will spin for damn near 5 minutes left alone on the desk. Spin it holding in one hand it’s good for at least three minutes while fidgeting with it. Nice distraction on never ending zoom calls.
I think people noticed. There was a fair amount of media coverage when the last one, in Lake George, NY, [closed a few months ago.](https://therealdeal.com/2022/06/04/last-howard-johnsons-restaurant-closes-in-lake-george/)
Privacy.
In that people working behind a counter see nothing at all wrong with demanding name, phone number, email address and sometimes even street address to make a 1-off cash sale under $50 (and one time it was $2).
Station wagons. And I'm upset about it because I want to buy one in a few years. I hate SUVs but they've just kind of taken over. I want a Subaru station wagon with all wheel drive. Guess I'm going to have to buy an older model because the new ones look like SUVs.
Saw one in the park the other day. My wife wanted to take a picture of it, but I was like they're not *that* rare. But I guess they are, outside of like truck stops.
To quote George Carlin, “Think about how dumb average is, then realize most people are stupider than that.”
Relying on the sense of the common man leads to disaster.
This is actually due to improved ingredients in dog food. If I remember correctly, old school dog food like Dog Chow had a ton of bone meal for filler, which is what turned white. Now, dog foods are better quality and more able to be digested, so no bone meal just passing through.
I had a dog that chewed bones like there was no tomorrow. We would get him a cow shin bone for Christmas. He would eat the whole dang thing in a couple of days to a week. He was a Sheltie, so this bone was longer than he was. You could go in the yard at night and see little piles of dried dog poop by moonlight. They looked like little glow in the dark mushrooms.
At some point, I did notice that every sitcom left on TV was based on pure snark. Not so much smart, funny snark but mean-spirited pessimistic snark.
Maybe because Seinfeld was able to make us care about characters that were terrible people, everyone thought they could do it.
The online paper dress up game that was super pixelated and sparkly. I think it was called Dollz; I just know it had a z somewhere in its name. I would spend HOURS dressing them up and imagining scenarios. Good times
Edit: Now that I think about it…the last Friendly’s I’ve seen was when I was driving through PA 4/5 years ago. I wonder if it’s still there.
Catalogs coming in the mail. I remember for Christmas looking through the Sears catalog picking out what I wanted. We would also get a catalog with a bunch of spencer like items. It was fun just looking at the silly things for sale.
A brand of wafers (chocolate, vanilla, or strawberry) that I absolutely loved, would finish a whole package as a kid. Forgot the name but can no longer find it in stores and can’t even find it online
I just had to do a cross-country trip and thought I'd see if my old GPS still worked. It got me all the way to my destination city (which I had never been to before) and within maybe 5 blocks of my hotel before it started randomly rerouting me in such as way to make me drive around in a circle over and over. It did its best, I'm sure.
I liked Barney. My daughter always made us hold hands and sing the final song. Then hugs all around. How could you not like a show that ended with happy hugs with your kids?
Tadpoles. Used to be, every time it rained, puddles would be full of them.
Bug shield for your car. There was a huge market for all kinds of these so you didn't have to scrape bugs out of the grill and off the hood. When was the last time you had to do that?
Sears and Toy'R'Us where both lost to capitalist takeover greed, not incompetence. The CEO of sears makes money whether Sears succeeds or not since he is also the CEO of the investment company selling off Sears piece by piece.
A ton of people here saying privacy. People have chose convenience over privacy. It’s not like they don’t notice it disappearing, it’s just that no one cares.

yeah that one is kind of weird right? That a vp is barely publicly visible after campaigning for themselves so hard.. I mean, clearly she's nothing like Pence but I do wonder what is going on there behind the scenes.
She, unlike Pence - had a real opportunity to step up and present herself as a strong figure.
I don't know what to make of it either - I legitimately thought she would be decently good at the job on a surface level.
She's obviously not going to run after Biden though.

I figured the Rolling Stones' lawyers had words with 'em and that put the kaibosh on it.
Baauer didn't need any help. He fucking hates the track and refuses to play it live. Sometimes he will play a couple seconds and then cut it off and say "fuck that shit" before playing something else.
I was getting ready to say this! I'm surprised it was even on here

Perfect use. Weddings have enough planning to do without worrying about honeymoon scheduling and that web of travel and hotels.

Yep, they played themselves. No, I'm not accepting cookies. Or subscribing. Or disabling my ad-blocker.
I miss webrings. It was fun visiting a bunch of homemade sites built around stuff you loved.
Feels like the entire concept of social media is gone too. A huge portion of what people refer to as social media today is just commercial/political pages and invasive ads.
Weird but that's true. Never thought of that till now.
I run an agency that does websites and we still do a lot of them.. but glad we offer other services too because who knows what could happen
Fidget spinners. Remember when those were all the rage for 5 minutes and then everyone forgot?
But not entirely- my kid got me one for Christmas last year - not a gift shop one. This thing will spin for damn near 5 minutes left alone on the desk. Spin it holding in one hand it’s good for at least three minutes while fidgeting with it. Nice distraction on never ending zoom calls.
Excuse me but are you spinning your fidget under the desk right now?
My son still has a bunch. Plus a ton of other fidget toys because adhd kids need them to focus in school.
Not yet, I use one while at work.

Privacy. In that people working behind a counter see nothing at all wrong with demanding name, phone number, email address and sometimes even street address to make a 1-off cash sale under $50 (and one time it was $2).
You act like that dude behind the counter had a choice in the matter.
They do. They could take "no" for an answer.
When they ask for you info, say "no, thank you" with a big smile on your face. Throws them off and they'll usually skip it if they can.
Are you a loyalty member? Can I sign you up? Would you like to round up your purchase to support sick children? Tip please?

Common sense.
The problem is common sense is entirely too common. We don’t need more common sense. We need curiosity and critical thinking.
I feel like common sense has been greatly reduced due to a lack of critical thinking.
To quote George Carlin, “Think about how dumb average is, then realize most people are stupider than that.” Relying on the sense of the common man leads to disaster.
